Killer sound. I got a 1977 F250 with a 351M in Upstate NY! Always nice to see another fellow New Yorker on here with old trucks.
Yes sir. I love dentsides and it’s pretty warm and nice today in NY!
I know everyone probably says this but I have to have that truck
Thank you. Much appreciated
@@fordobsproductions6153 what do you think was invested in the motor? Did you use p heads? Or just gt40? Thank you for responding
@@augieh6146 well I had it machined, bored, decked, forged new pistons, bearings, rings, oil pump, reconditioned my original rods, polished the crank, cam installed, all labor and parts came out too $3600 for the short block. I had the gt40 heads I bought looked over. $250.
Everything was new or reconditioned. No expense spared.
@@augieh6146 I bought the heads reman for about $800
I just got this exact truck today but in black and grey
I also noticed you had this originally with the EFI / speed density? and were having troubles? even though they market it as SD friendly... interesting. yeah my LSA is a bit narrower but I have seen people even running E-303 on speed density. Are you sure it wasn't a vacuum line missing or something? Theres SO much to keep track of its ridiculous. I want to keep my smog stuff intact and just looking at all the crossover pipe stuff and trying to remember is crazy but thats why I got a chip burnt for mine and hopefully that will help
THat sounds glorious!!!!
Not a fan of those XE cams but the xe4x4 cam similar to the above really woke up my buds 80s Ford 3/4 ton. Towed real nice and got better mpg which was a surprise
i hope i will have such a car in the future
What cam are you using and what rpm does it make peak hp?
I have that exact truck. Even a stick. A rust belt survivor with just under 52k. 5 speed 5.8. Just needs small patches on cab corners and a full tailgate. Abandoned vehicle find.
Ive got a single cab long bed 89 f250 same color way and im planning on doing similar mods
very nice truck. sounds great. do you have 2 Flowmaster 40s or 1 dual in dual out?
Thank you! I have 1 muffler. Im actually not sure what muffler it is because it doesn't say anything on it. But i'm guessing its some kind of 2 chamber muffler by the sound. Dual out after muffler.
What a fuckin beautiful songbird
Thank you!
@@fordobsproductions6153 just bought. 96 f250 with the 351 w. With under 100k original miles and not a lick of rust or damage for 750$.. felt wrong to pass it up at that price, so I'm looking for the best, most affordable setup to get a little more ass out of her
@@spencerrode7584 it’s hard to do with efi. Especially since it’s non mass air flow which means it doesn’t respond well to mods that increase power because it can’t read any increased air flow. ( which makes hp ) so honestly it’s hard to say my 97 f250 has the 351w and it’s still slow but here’s what I’ve done successfully. Removed the cat and upgraded the muffler and tail pipes. Bumped the ignition timing up to 14 degrees BTDC ( this will make the biggest improvement ) and If you spark plugs wires and cap and rotor look old I would throw new ones in there to bump you back up a couple hp. They sell an intake manifold kit ($1000) and a bigger throttle body $400. But that’s big money for maybe 30-40 hp. I can’t comment on wether or not it works well with your speed density. But I would do the small things mentioned above, because the timing bump alone is free and makes a good 5-10 hp increase.
@@spencerrode7584 and good buy!
nice truck!
The sound is sweet, 😊. Do you think you have about 350HP out of this engine?
Sounds real good. Why forges pistons instead of the hypereutectic pistons? And how much power do you think your getting?
I talked with my engine builder and he said they were about the same price and he recommended the forged pistons. Old school guy. Not sure why he thought that but I have no complaints. Runs good.
Forged is much stronger
Ik this is an old comment, but I e been told hypereutectic will shatter and go through the engine, forged won't and is stronger.
Plus forged resists detonation better than cast and hypereutectic
I'm doing a build on my F150 with a 5.0L and I was thinking about using the same cam. Do you like the Comp cams 4X4 XE254H? Is the truck faster with the new cam?
Oh yeah the truck is much faster than stock and much more torque. I like the cam but for my build I personally would've went with something bigger if I could go back.
pretty nice ol truck. gotta love an old ford. why do shorty headers though? longtubes are the way too go
Need some ATF type F in that power steering pump and that whine will go away
Damn, is the frame messed up? the way it flexes and creeks and pops just going up the driveway.. I’d be worried.
Dude. It is . I just noticed that tooooo
Probably the bed the rails are shot on it.
Did the f250's come with a solid front axle or ttb?
Both
where did you get you heads at? I have the same truck and I've been looking to upgrade it a little
Ebay.
Are they explorer heads?
Where does one get GT40 heads?
how tall is this truck?
Sounds really nice what is your exhaust set up?
Its BBK shorty headers with 1 1/2 primaries to stock y pipe to 3 inch pipe to dual chambered muffler and splits behind the bumper with 2.5 tail pipes.
That's also an F-250HD.
Technically yes it is.
No its not... it's a light 3/4 ton.. small hubs, small block v8...
Suspension?
I might pick up a f250 with a 351. I'd like 165cc heads, torque cam and a intake manifold should do about 350hp 450ftlbs
Do it man 350’hp in a truck may not seem like a lot but in one of these old trucks it’s lots of dun
Back in high school built one with my old man made 643 and 510lb ft to the crank
Sounds nice, 4spd or 5spd?
5 speed
What's it got timing gears instead of a chain?
No just a really messed up power steering pump that whines loudly.
How does it scoot? stock gears and transmission stuff?
Pretty great tbh
@@fordobsproductions6153 sweet.. yeah im working on a 5.0 EFI build in my high top conversion econoline LOL. ported E7s, ported the intake lower ( opened the dog legs about 150 thousandths should open up like 100 cfm ) ported plenum and got the big 61mm BBK throttle body and ported the tunnels. Got a Lunati cam .472 .496 215 / 224 @ .50 281 / 293 adv.. had to get a custom chip burnt for speed density.. but yeah I like seeing similar builds to see if 5 years of my time waiting on this has been worth it and how people like the weight:power. I do also have 3.73 posi and a 3000 stall converter.. like I went in a ride in my friends big quad cab ram hemi but I think mine will be quicker than that .. its like 500 lbs lighter. That 351 sounds real good though.. cant believe youve got 3! im overwhelmed with one E150.
Really nice! Gotta ask you…ball park cost of your engine build? Including machining, parts, labor? Thanks.
Thank you!! No problem I love questions. So it was about $6500 in total. With EVERYTHING. Including the carb. Intake. Headers. Everything new. Heads. All the machine work, cam, forged pistons, all the labor for the machine shop. With just the parts and machine work for the short block it was about $3500-4000
'Bout 315 horse?
Does it get around 12 mpg if so thats probably fine
Less than that my friend. In all seriousness it probably gets like 8-10
My 89 460 got literally like 7.5mpg
They get 10mpg stock.... du?;as@
@@fordobsproductions6153 do you know what it got bone stock before the modifications?
How much hp is it now?
Honestly not sure but it moves well. And had plenty of torque. If I had to guess maybe 250-300 to the wheels.
@@fordobsproductions6153 that's good and enough for this truck, however the torque is more important for this kind of application.
@@Ahd6000 yes I agree has plenty or torque but it makes it a lot higher in the rpm range I would have to say around 2k rpm it really starts to pick up. Was a lot lower before but I don’t miss it. 😂
Why downgrade to carb? Put a terminator X or microsquirt on factory EFI parts.
Honestly everybody thinks the carb is a down grade but I love it. Cold weather warm weather. Drivability has never been an issue. Fuel economy is the only issue and that doesn’t bother me. I was thinking about the microsquirt but it was 1200 and was looking at the Holley sniper but it seemed like a lot of reviews had bad things to say. So I went simple and cheap and haven’t looked back. I love it.
@@fordobsproductions6153 Cold is ass with carbs.
@@pcwizzy460 I don’t mind waiting 15 minutes for my vehicle to warm up, lol!
@@pcwizzy460 Ifbyour having trouble cranking a carbed vehicle in the cold 2 things. 1 carb is not tuned right 2 choke is not adjusted correctly. All you should have to do press the gas 1 time turn the key and it should start and have the choke engaged then tap the gas 1 time and choke disengaged. Its that simple. If not needs to be tuned and adjusted correctly
Carb is king
