Was told a neat little trick by an old timer exhaust pro on how to set up an x pipe. First set it up with two straight pipes. Run a string along said pipes. Start your engine, and let it run until the exhaust gets hot. Now look at the string. Where ever it burns is where the exhaust gas pulses are happening. That's where you want to place the x. Deff a huge improvement in sound and I'm sure it gained some performance. I know your frustration. I finished my 94 mustang 331 build, broke it in over two weeks of light driving. Put it on the dyno and on the last pull it started ticking and was down some cylinders. I got lucky and some rockers just backed off. Hopefully you find something easy/ cheap to repair and get that beast back in the road.
I actually have a similar story! I grew up with my mom driving a 68 chevelle. I took it over in 95 as my first car in high school. I recently built a high rev destroked sac with 11.5:1 compression. I put it in with the old exhaust that sounded awesome with the old motor but the new motor sounded terrible. I have 3” from the collector into an X pipe then ran through a set of jones resonators dumped before the rearend. Sounds great now but not quite as good as yours! You sound like your spinning 9K. I shift at 7,200.
I never was a fan of running pipe after the exhaust, especially flows (always felt it gave it a deeper sound) but u have officially changed my mind..best sounding exhaust ive heard in a long time
Craig, coat the connecting ends in anti-seize and they will come apart much easier(the good copper type). Power flow aircraft exhaust system requires anti-seize be applied after every 100 hour/annual inspection and it works great.
I've always used anti-seize on all (non gasketed) exhaust connections, and hardware. Totally agree that it just makes life simpler when it's time for service of any kind. It makes alignment with movable joints far, far easier as well. Excellent advice.
I'd say I like the tone and rumble that an "H" pipe makes better usually... but damn, that sounded really good! Also, that first part of the video with the flyby was super cinematic and bad ass. Love your content man!
I once came across your video on facebook reels and buddy you rowed those gears like nobody's business. I'm glad i came across this entire video again. I love the raw rumble of the engine when you put your foot down. Much love from Kenya (in Africa).
You need to rubber mount the exhaust system. If its solid mounted to the chassis. First off, it's gonna crack or break any welds. Your motor and trans are on rubber mounts so the exhaust has to be able to move with it. Secondly, if it's solid mounted to the chassis it is gonna be loud. Loud with vibrations through the entire truck. Thats why they call exhaust mounts insulators. If for whatever reason you have to solid mount that system, you can run a flex joint near the front somewhere. It's not going to cure any issues. You're probably still going to have vibration problems as well as cracking. It's just not as prevalent.
I’ve been watching for quite sometime and seeing this truck progress has made me start on mine and get it running again. 91 model. Love watching this truck and everything you’re doing to it. Keep up the work! I love seeing these videos!!!

Somehow the algorithm brought me here and I’m so happy it did. Your truck is by far the one of the nastiest and best sounding small block cord V8’s I’ve heard in a very very long time. The closest (and let’s leave NHRA drag cars to one side for a moment) car I could compare it to is a Formula Drift-spec RTR Ford Mustang that one of our local drift champs called Fanga Dan ran a few years back, here in NZ. His car was an exact replica of the same car Vaughn Gitten Jr. used to run, complete with a Roush Yates small block making around 940hp @ 9000rpm! That car made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!! Sorry that you lunched the motor tho! Until then it was mint!!!
@Rejected-From-Eve .Zero those 400m's will pull 6500 lightly built. Need a 4 venturi carb, headers, and some flat top Pistons that are true to the deck of the block. 2venturi heads will flow and make decent power. Especially for cheap. Little port and polish and you can flow decently. Only need a 450-550cfm carb to make big power. Properly tuning the carb is vital to the motor.
You can hear the engine burning lean in the top of the gear pulls, but that's a killer sounding pipe system and hopefully you can get it back healthy without too much drama. 👍🏼
@joshmitchamore89 Difficult to describe. The ability to hear it, at least for myself, was hearing engines that were too rich and then developing an ear for too lean. Only way I can think to explain it, although insufficiently is that it sound very hot, dry. No bellow at all, very "zingy". It's more of a pronounced sound when tuning two strokes, like outboards and chainsaws.
That sounds great! My grandfather was a drag racer and one hell of a mechanic. I asked my grandfather for a few blue prints on 302,351 which I have and on one of his prints was basically the same exhaust you built and his was about 6' long and he said that it was optional for his engines. I have an FE based F100 dent, with a tremec behind it as well. Built my own exhaust too, but is all 3" and used some old MAC flow path mufflers. From the collectors, went over the transmission cross member and stuffed electric cutouts w/turn downs in the same area as well. Crossover is literally directly under the output shaft/U-joint area. Is probably the 5th or 6th exhaust I've had on it since highschool, but to me the tone is unbeatable/I finally found what I was looking for. Fab was delicate to cram all that mess in there, but it was well worth it. Your truck sounds fantastic dude! Very well done! Almost sounds like you're running the "old" firing order too. Throw some (now affordable) leftover 1990s Yates heads on that thing and LET 'ER EAT!! Love the truck man, really.
Sounds great man. I ruined a good engine due to leaning out once and will never make that mistake again. I run a wide band on everything now as a cheap insurance policy.
Is leaning-out referring to ' fuel injection ' air fuel ratio ? or dose it affect regular carbureted and TBI engine also. My 454cu.in tbi always runs rich. Too rich
@@missingremote4388 It refers to the AFR and can happen with EFI or carb setups. Generally, anything higher than 12.9 at WOT is considered lean. Nitrous and boost setups should be even less.

Best sounding exhaust I think I've ever heard on a street legal vehicle. Perfect!
My car doesn't sound quite like this, but it is very close and having true dual exhaust is wonderful with headers! Just needs a manual transmission now. Great work!
Dude that truck is sweet that view of coming around that corner is awesome it sounds bad ass 👍
I can't help but subscribe to support my friend. The video captivated me from start to finish. As long as I talk about the car, I can't get bored watching it all day. I'm from Vietnam
I LOVE how raw that truck is dude! SOUNDS SICK SICK SICK LOVE FLAG, NICE TOUCH THERE. THE ONLY SHINY THING ON THE TRUCK
Digging the style you got going on with the whole truck.
Nice man, it sounds insane!! Hopefully what happened is a simple fix. At least you'll know what to do different next time around. I know it gets old though having to keep digging back into it.
Man that sounds AWESOME!!! I thought before was fine, but this is killer and fits it well. I will be watching the next video on what happened to the motor soon. As always, love the F100 content!
Man that thing sounds sooo freaking good!!!
I'm going to do that on my 1983 Trans A.m I just put a freshly built 355 motor bored over. 30 mild racing cam and lifters Holly performance intake Holly 750 4 barrel carburetor Moroso valve covers and air filter hooker headers Holly performance fuel pump and fuel line's brake line's transmission line's shifter cable water pump hoses clamps battery R400 transmission Posi rear end now going to do the true dual performance exhuast is the last thing I'm sold on the black widow 10's with the x pipe I'm so excited man thanks again best exhaust video on RUclips by far I'm sold thanks again man!!!
Best sounding Windsor ever, I wonder if the fox body will get a similar but quieter set up 🤔. Much appreciate your videos from Australia.
what is nice about a fox body, is that you can buy an xpipe without havinf to fabricate the setup. I had one on mine, and it sounded wicked for just a stock 5.0 ho.
Man I love your truck , and you built one killer exhaust Craig . Cheers 🍻
That is the greatest sound I have ever heard from anything in my entire life. Like angels screaming. I can’t believe how f#{£!n& good that sounds. Wow. 🙌 Nice work
I’m building a Frankenstein Gen1 S10 and want to put the Ford drivetrain into it. SBF Roller Rocker 302 maybe? It sounds sweet
HS all over again lol. I'm 40 and been trying to relive those days ever since. But with more money and wisdom this time around. Truck sounds great. Reminds me of my 68 C10.
Be interesting to do a 'before and after' exhaust install on the rolling road to see exactly how it affects power?
🤣🤣🤣 revs it to valve bounce like they were kids playing on a trampoline in the neighborhood and is surprised to blow it up.
It's actually cool how similar this sounds to my F150. (Yours is defiantly better since my engine is still nearly stock though)
I've gotten quite a few complements on it.
Damn that’s nasty, I have questions
1. Compression ratio
2. Camshaft spec
3. RPM shift point
wicked - I have a 78 bronco 4 speed header and sidepipes. working on the carb. love those trucks!
Was not expecting the bronco to sound that nasty 😍
Sounds like what we used to call a “full race cam” 👍🏼
It could be worse they could be carrying guns and shooting people..but no just living a car dream with a bit of noise thrown in ..
Absolutely not bashing it, love this truck, and i own a 68 f100. I can't help but think aren't you a little worried about the exhaust coming out over heating your rear tires making them go BOOM? Maybe I'm over thinking it, just a thought.
Absolutely one of the best sounding exhaust systems on RUclips thanks man Im gonna do the same exhaust if I can afford it I've watched hour's and hour's this is the best exhaust by far thanks so much man I'm so 😊.
26:51 “Nope! Blew the motor up”. Definitely know that feeling😭😂😂
You sir are my hero. When you fired it up at 1130 I expected to see the blue and red lights off to the side. Really would have added to your greatness❤!!
Car icon, pickup truck, greetings to the good American people, I am a car lover, and my car in Saudi Arabia is a GT-R. The most beautiful thing is the sound of the car jumping on the road.
What kinda compression are you running? It's got to be up there to be getting that kind of sound.
Where o where did you get those headlights? I need a set.. I dig em!
Sounds absolutely perfect.
Dude, you have the perfect setup to run the exhaust over the crossmember! If it were mine, I'd order a universal,double-hump crossmember. Then you will never have to worry about scraping it on anything, but more importantly, you won't be able to see it hanging down!
Best sounding truck on the internet. Nice work amigo! Hope you get it back up to full chooch soon!
Awesome fords I have a yard full I rolled my nice 79 bronco so wheeled it to death headers and exhaust has been on 3 or 4 trucks but getting rusty time for a rebuild headers strait pipe with a 90 in front of the tires with echo cans sounds great when the boggers are hucking chunks it's about safety loud pipes save lives
I ran a single moroso 3” corkscrew muffler on my 89 F150 4x4. It had a swapped in 93 Cobra engine. Sounded similar.
Ich finde das Megacool. Einen NASCAR Motor in einen alten Pick Up, Einbauen. Gigantisch der Sound.
I want that Bronco @50 seconds in !! My parent's had a 1985 looks about the same. Ours was a cool two tone with Chrome. Loved riding in it, and was able to drive it a bit. My 1986 F250,2000 F350 7.3 were beast !! My boss at the time had a 85 F350 with a 460 3 speed on the floor !! Fast as F--K ,even when fully loaded !! coming home from work with no weight on it was 🔥
Dude that thing is freaking awesome, sounds great and I've had some tricked out 69 Chevy's, Chevelle's, and monte Carlos and with super loud exhaust. Yours is banging!!
That sounds great from what I can tell from a phone but I have an ear for exhaust sounds and that sounds wicked!
Get GOOD earbuds!!
ABSOLUTY MENTALLY DOPE!!! sound will defenetly gonna put this set on on my 1999 5.0marcury mountaineer Thank You for sharing all the details and names of the product that you used ...swrry for ur motor Bud!
