    good content. but a question tho, given no algaes occurrence in the tank, do i tune up the light intensity or the duration? currently running 6 hours, still lost in fine tuning the light either duration or the intensity

    • @AquaristForFun
      @AquaristForFun  3 года назад +4

      Honestly depends on your plants, CO2 and fert methods. Lights serves as the gas pedal or throttle, the higher the intensity the faster your tank's growth and metabolism goes so you'll need to supplement it with CO2 and nutrients to outcompete algae. alternatively you can slow things down if you lower lights, you can get away with slightly lesser co2 and nutrients.
      My light intensity, I would say is already high given my reds 81% and Blue 100% so although duration is 8 hours, max lights kick in for only 6hours total. 1hour ramp up, 6 hours peak, 1 hour ramp down. co2 @ 5-6 bps and EI fertilization. weekly water change

    • @AquaristForFun

      I think if you look closely White light and color temperature is a separate setting from RGB. Either you pick RGB settings or White light and Temperature (in Kelvin).
      RGB has blue bars and white and temperature has white bars. that is why you can't pick RGB and White light at the same time.
      personally I only use the RGB setting and just disregard the white and temperature setting

    The answer is No. RGB flood lights cost a quarter of the price and have 99% the same output.

    • @AquaristForFun
      @AquaristForFun  Год назад

      Yes it is a lot cheaper. If you are more of a fish keeper than a proper aquascaper then yeah, you can say there's no difference. BUT for proper aquascaping, dedicated lights like this one is a lot better. Even MD fish tanks who is a big user of flood lights recently bought the same unit and said "...cheaper lights look good but not this (Chihiros) good". I've used both flood lights and Chihiros BTW. We have a 180cm tank and we use flood lights x6 for it, and it struggles to keep advanced plants alive or plants like Pogostemon stellatus 'Octopus' becomes really leggy.

    • @gallardo20000
      @gallardo20000 Год назад +1

      @@AquaristForFun It depends on the wattage of the flood light my friend; if you run 50W RGB flood light for every 20 gallons then you can grow almost anything. Even cheaper option is T5 Ho and will be better results than almost ANY LED light. Pros still use the t5 fixtures for best results. Also, the RGB flood lights use the same chip as the chihiros lights; you can change the color to anything you want rather than the standard 6500k lights MD fish tanks is using... His are 35W per unit, not enough for a high tech setup.

    • @AquaristForFun
      @AquaristForFun  Год назад +1

      I'm using x6 75W flood lights (RGB) on a 100gallon/180cm tank and it struggles with some plants. yes some of them will grow with no problems but they grow in a very leggy manner. not up to my standards at least. Not all RGB lights produce the same spectrum and or wavelengths required by plants. Using wattage or wattage/gallon as a basis is already an old concept since wattage pertains to energy consumption and doesn't necessarily mean high Photosynthetically active radiation.
      The light temperature in Kelvin only depicts the estimated color hue and is not indicative of a good spectrum distribution
      The thing is, I've already used both flood lights and a more specific lighting solution like chihiros and weekaqua, and I'm getting better results with a more specific lighting solution plus better energy efficiency. I have no qualms with T5's, yes they do produce better results, but if your gonna run multiple tanks and be paying the energy bills, LEDs are the way to go.

    • @gallardo20000
      @gallardo20000 Год назад +1

      @@AquaristForFun Are you running Co2 on that large tank as well? One huge factor is the depth of the tank. My tank is a 40 breeder; its much more wide than deep making light penetrate much better. You should make a video with the RGB flood lights I think they're a really good alternative to the new RBG technology... really chihiros 90cm RBG is so expensive... $300-400 for a light? I'll Just run T5 HO at that price point; even the electrical bill is factored in. Also LED lights of that calibre consume a lot of energy don't be fooled a chihiro vivd2 consumes almost as much as a ATI T5 quad

    • @AquaristForFun
      @AquaristForFun  Год назад

      Yeah, has Pressurized CO2 setup 45cm high. That would be a great video! 1 of the things I love about the flood lights are the reflections it has similar to a Kessil or other COB led lights.
