Have 4 wrgb 2 currently (30, 45, 60, 90). The white channel control looks very nice in the pro ... But considering I don't run any of these lamps anywhere near 100% , I don't think the extra price for extra power makes sense unless one has a very deep tank(ie 60cm deep). The wrgb 2 color controls are more than sufficient to find the right balance also. I just wish the app allowed a little bit smarter ways of setting up the curves (ie a list of fixed color points and times for these) but that's not a choice yet :)
But you can only adjust the white light in the WRGB ll Pro. as far as I know. So it totally makes sense to have it if you don't want to run the white light constantly on 100%.
I hope for a Chihiros C2 WRGB, the models C2 and the C2 RGB combined in one model. White and RBG Leds with 2000 Lumen. Call it C2 Pro. Also a bigger Version of the C2 would be awesome, a version that is suitable for Aquariums up to a length of 45cm (even 50 cm), this lamp would illuminate a Dennerle Scapers Tank 55 or a 45P. I love the C2 line because they are compact and slim, therefore they require little space above the aquarium.
How does it act on power loss? Does it remember the settings and just continue once it reconnects to the network like a Philips Hue bulb or do you need to do something to get it working again?
MJ. Looking forward to your review. Quick question for possibly a new video. I want to see my plants lighted when I get home from work- can you look into Siesta lighting for a planted tank? Also- just starting my aquarium week 1 into the Dark start method and your video was awesome about this. Thanks again
Siesta is the act of adding a pause in your lighting during day time. I run all my lamps with one or two siesta(mostly 4hours in the morning and 4 in the evening) and it seems to work great, plant growth is fabulous. I don't think the interruption makes much of a change vs the same time continuously. But if you work during the day, it's nice to both enjoy the tank in the morning and the evening.
Oh and additional point on the Siesta...one of the traditional arguments for it is that plants can only photosynthetisize effectively for a couple hours and then need a pause to rebuild stocks of various enzymes and nutrients. So by doing a pause you augment growth. From my experience I do see pearling both morning and evening, but I don't think it makes significant différences in overall growth
Thanks Maluska. Very insightful. Maybe not a good video for RUclips since there may not be a big difference between the two in the Vs series but good to know that it does not harm plant growth and potentially may even help
I was just researching grow light, saw your chill video and I really like the scape you featured for your new light. The wood in your ‘submersed treehouse’ almost looks like dancing flames, good job-I can see why you do this! All I could say is the light had a vibrant colorful contrast, bringing out the warm red/green complimentary colors (opposite colors). Speaking of works of art, If you name your pieces, consider labeling on screen or in the description for reference. 🚥🌱Peace
Thanks for the initiative to unbox and review the light, MJ! Seems like if anyone with WRGB2 is already happy enough with the light. 😅 But if they have not got WRGB2, probably can go to the newest version, WRGB2 PRO.
maybe i'm wrong, is the pro version on the left side? and the text that you put below is incorrect? In the transition where you show wrgb2 pro fish mode and switch to comparative, it feels like the left side hasn't changed and the right side feels less bright and greener, but the left side is renamed normal wrgb2.
Thank you for sharing chihiros new product! Maybe light strength improvement may not be so important because we adjust it to suited strength, but the added white elements are the main point. Since I'm using chihiros RGB c2, so curious about added white elements. So I'd like to know how to better adjust white light while adjusting R and G and B lights and how it effects to coloration. Though showing it in video screen would be a bit challenge maybe.
I do own WRGB2 90cm and after this video I don’t see any important improvement or functionality to upgrade it unless it will be not so expensive. For a new buyer, I would consider pro but already owning wrgb no purpose for me to upgrade. Thank you for the video as it clarified most of my questions.
I can’t lie. I’m a Nicrew man all the way. Slim line, They have a timer built in, build up wind down when on the timer, and about the cheapest light ive found at around £15-£30 depending on size and what not. Hi , thanks for a very detailed and informative review of the CHIHIROS WRGB2 PRO light. I am installing a 300 cm fully planted discus tank (70 cm tall), and need some advice on lighting this tall tank. The Chihiros WRGB2 Pro looks excellent, but I will require 3 of these for my tank to cover the 300 cm length, but the cost in Australia would exceed AU$3,000. Are there any cheaper alternatives for a 70 cm high tank? Would a flood light that can be bought at hardware stores do the job? How about doing a tall tank light comparison between the CHIHIROS WRGB2 PRO and any cheaper alternatives?
I have the WRGB2 and won’t be upgrading. The light is already way too powerful to use at max as it is, and the introduction of the white channel control is nice but you can get any kind of colour spectrum you want from the RGB already available. If you don’t currently own a WRGB2 though, the pro seems like a no-brainer!
@@karkoor I have a 90cm over a 36" wide tank so I can't say for sure but I think it would work well on a 48" wide tank. Mine does cast some light outside the tank.

Hi MJ, I am having a WRGB2. The problem I faced with the WRGB2 is that the ramp setting goes out of control when there is power outage. Reason for this is there is no battery cell on the WRGB2 unit and once the power goes off the time memory is lost. When power comes on again the light will not on or even if it gets on it won't go off on time. Everything gets messed up. Have they fixed this issue on WRGB2 pro and have they installed any battery?
@@MJAquascaping place the light in ramp setting and when the light is on, pls turn off the switch. When you turn on the switch again you will be able to know if the ramp setting is still working or has got reset. Many of the us customer who brought WRGB2 when it was released in 2019 have reported this issue to Chihiros and they replied they will fix this issue in the upcoming versions. I want to buy this light only if they have fixed that issue. Pls can you check if the issue still exists on this new version.
As has been mentioned by others, the issue of power interruptions causing failure or reprogramming is what makes all lights that attempt apps or internal programming difficult. I have 4 Hygger Lights that are very similar but, no apps, internally programmed and they lose everything at even the shortest power interruption.
@@ravemind8433 Mine do too but, they even go to the default setting after a power loss and have a 12hr light-cycle which is way too long for my plants. Also, they reset to the default time of 1200 and flash until all the settings have been entered.
I recently upgraded to the HGH999 and can confirm that it does not lose its program if power is interrupted; on the other hand, it's not nearly as intuitive to program as it would be with the Chihiros app!
WRGB2Pro 60cm - 287EUR WRGB2 60cm - 232EUR Both from same company. Reasonable... Not a huge price jump for the extra power and features. I wonder if the 'standard' WRGB2 60cm will now get heavily discounted? It probably won't sell at all with a price so close to the superior light? The standard light is still a very good unit and if the price bottoms out below 200EUR it would remain an attractive proposition.
So unless I’m mistaken, the white level slider lets you change the intensity. Is there any option to change the colour temperature (aka Kelvin?). That’s my favourite feature on my wrgb 2.
Great lights albeit expensive but it’s a shame that they don’t have something like memory backup. When there is a power outage and the lights are on auto mode they don’t turn back on. You need to get back into the app and toggle the auto mode.
The annoying thing with my WRGB II was when they changed the app, a little while ago. Now you cant change the intensity on a slider. You have to change each colour up or down an amount. It makes it hard to adjust the intensity whilst keeping the colour the same. You cant reference against a overall percentage its max power. Hope that makes sense. I wish they would change it back.
White channel is perfect (that's what the previous model lacked). I have a wrgb 2 for a smaller tank and I am currently looking for a set of lights for my new 120p tank. I was contemplating going with another Chihiros light but I keep hearing of people having issues with zero support. A new wrgb 2 pro for the new tank would be quite the investment. I would hate to have it die 1-2 years from now with no recourse to get it fixed.
Hi Mark, I have the old wrgb2 and i noticed you said you never run it 100%. Im currently running mine for 6 hours at 80 percent intensity, I was planning to gradually ramp up the intensity 10 percent per week because my tank is 3 weeks old. Do you recommend increasing photperiod to 7 hours or intensity 10 percent per week, or both, for new tanks?
I would increase the photo period to 7 or 8 hours, if after that you still think you could get away with more light you can start increasing the intensity
Thank you for this video, to see the new WRGB2Pro. I‘m so happy that i‘ve bought the normal WRGB2, i like the colors in the tank even more. Second point is you can set the colortemperature in the app, the WRGB2Pro can’t do that.
Yeah, that’s a huge selling point for me. If you have a terrarium or Paludarium, then being able to alter the colour temperature (Kelvin), is very important. The intensity slider for the white colour isn’t worth the trade off in my opinion.
Plants dont care what light you throw at them for growt right ? White or RGB is the same for growt, RGB is more for color reproduction or am I mistaking ? :)
More or less true in my experience, Walstad reproduces scientific data showing mixing cool white and warm works great for aquatic plants, 50 watt outdoor floodlights (they are water resistant) are cheap and effective - give about 100 lumens for a watt at I reckon 10-20 times less than the price of these fancy lights, any advantage from these fancy lights is not worth the money. If a manufacturer can pre-set the spectrum for plant growth why change it? If using a built-in or cabinet set-up aesthetics are not an issue.
@@williammcdowell6257 I'm using 6500k floodlights and they do a fantastic job even on the most so-called difficult plants. Price is between 15 and 20 euro per unit.
Hi! greetings from Austria! For my new tank im planing 12x50x50 (300 Lieters) or 120x50x57 (330 Lieters) I was thinking about the WRGB for lighting but on the other side and yes I know there is a big price diffrence of the ADA lights. Now I do want to Aquascape so lighting is very importend. Now as I can speak for a lot of people I sadly dont have unlimited fundings so I have to be carful on what I want. What do you think?
@@davidreinitzer6862 Maybe in a few years... ADA lights are part of a system and they are designed to run at a fixed power to provide what ADA considers the ideal amount of light. Adding a dimmer goes against this idea. The Chihiros lights are a good value for money, but if you pay a bit more for smaller specialized brands you will get higher quality and more power efficiency.
Wrgb 2 has Sunrise and sunset. With a ramp up time of up to 3 hours either end. So the new model should be able to as well. Not sure what you mean about a moon phase. Apparently on the wrgb 2 you can set multiple sunrise/ sunsets with a siesta in between. All within one day cycle. I have a wrgb 2 but haven’t figured that out though.
any idea if ECS is good? cant find any good infor, ation more than this? ECS Easy Care Substrate consists of burnt natural clay. ECS has a high porosity, which favors the growth of beneficial bacteria and increases the denitrification process. ECS provides clear and clean water while inhibiting algae growth
I think this new addition is great as you can actually use smaller versions for bigger tanks such as 45cm for 60cm tank and it would still be bright enough to support it.
@@vidmusic88 lol I was referring to the light spread into the tank. The power would get it deep enough for sure, but I would be concerned if the plants on the outer couple of inches wouldn’t get proper coverage without raising the light higher.
@@greysileighty Sorry didn't get you on the first one. Yes if you have a hanging kit for the lights, because the higher you hang it the more it can spread across the sides of the tank. generally people hang it about 20-30cm above the tank. The normal stand will only be able to hold the lights about 10cm above.
I have just replaced my 2 Fluval plant lights in my 140cm discus tank with one WRGB II Pro. The difference is significant. Very powerful and the light fills the whole tank whereas I had difficulty even with 2 Fluvals to light up all areas. The most exciting difference for me is how it has brought out the vibrant colours of the discus. Full power is not even required and playing around with different colours at 50% and below still gives a beautiful light and colour rendition. However, I find the Fluval App much more flexible and user friendly.
Not sure what numbers you are talking about. The specifications of the WRGG Pro 45cm state 5000lm at 56W or ~89 lm/W. The 90cm version is rated 9250lm at 110W or ~84 lm/W. If you do the calculations for the other lamps you get similar ratios, which means they are using the same LED arrays in these lamps. This efficiency is actually low. Most quality LEDs on the market today have an efficiency of at least 100 lm/W. The LED array of this lamp are very likely being run at ~80% of its maximum power. I suspect the reason for this is the same as before: Chihiros has been using low quality and underpowered power adapters in all their lights, including in the Vivid 2 lights, and therefore cannot run the LED array at full power without issues. In any case, you can find quality LED lights for aquariums outputting 140-180 lm/W. And CREE has several LEDs above 200 lumen per Watt - the current maximum is around 300 lm/W, so there are LEDs on the market above 200 lm/W.
Well…..I think the Pro light is sharper and kinder to your eyes. Just saying. But obviously the ultimate goal here should be focusing on the plants first, then focus on the humans. Difficult to please both 😉

What version of my chihiros app did u use?
When I made this video it was still the older version, not the most recent update
@@MJAquascaping ok thanks, the new update app suck 😭
Wrgb II or II pro? Which one to choose?
Buenos videos , bien explicados , lo mejor que encuentro , muchas gracias
i would like to know if acrylic stand from the wrgb2 could be mounted to wrgb 2 pro.. if the width is the same on the mounting holes...
WRGB2Pro 60cm - 287EUR
WRGB2 60cm - 232EUR
Both from same company.
Reasonable... Not a huge price jump for the extra power and features.
I wonder if the 'standard' WRGB2 60cm will now get heavily discounted? It probably won't sell at all with a price so close to the superior light? The standard light is still a very good unit and if the price bottoms out below 200EUR it would remain an attractive proposition.
hello would you recommend 60 cm wrgb for 80 cm aquarium will it illuminate the corners well because it will be 10 cm short at both ends
Yeah should be fine! Unless you have very big pieces of hardscape creating some shadow in the corners
Is it the same for you guys or have I done something wrong?
Same
yep i know what you mean
Does the new WRGB II pro keep settings after power failure? Because WRGB II does not and you have to program it once again after power failure.
@mjaquascaping
Wondering what level you would suggest to start a new tank at with this light, 90cm tank… I’m thinking…25%? Lol
I just wish the come in white 😭
Thank you for this video, to see the new WRGB2Pro.
I‘m so happy that i‘ve bought the normal WRGB2, i like the colors in the tank even more. Second point is you can set the colortemperature in the app, the WRGB2Pro can’t do that.
Yeah, that’s a huge selling point for me. If you have a terrarium or Paludarium, then being able to alter the colour temperature (Kelvin), is very important. The intensity slider for the white colour isn’t worth the trade off in my opinion.
This or the Twinstar S?
i have wrgb II, i think if i want upgrade just upgrade to vivid 2
Need to know what's the price like. The difference in power and lumens are more for 60cm and 90cm light. Don't think it's worth to upgrade for 45cm.
Yeah no idea about the price yet.
@@williammcdowell6257
I'm using 6500k floodlights and they do a fantastic job even on the most so-called difficult plants.
I would still go with the WRGB. ADA lights are nice, but they have no app, no dimmer, nothing.. it's just on and off.
@@MJAquascaping yes. Thats what i Was thinking as well. Or it could be that ADA would make Dimmer lights as well if i wait a bit?
@@davidreinitzer6862 Maybe in a few years... ADA lights are part of a system and they are designed to run at a fixed power to provide what ADA considers the ideal amount of light. Adding a dimmer goes against this idea. The Chihiros lights are a good value for money, but if you pay a bit more for smaller specialized brands you will get higher quality and more power efficiency.
Is there any way to automatically simulate sunrise/set and maybe even Moonphase? 🤔
I have a wrgb 2 but haven’t figured that out though.
man, the regular one price about $175 for 60cm here i wonder about pro one, and im here just using $4 Aquarium lamp
What about price comparison?
No idea yet about the price
@@MJAquascaping if you come to know please update .. nice video
What should choose between Wrgb 2 Pro ans Flat One+ with a 90P tank?
I have no experience with the Flat one, so I would go with the WRGB2 Pro
any idea if ECS is good? cant find any good infor, ation more than this? ECS Easy Care Substrate consists of burnt natural clay.
ECS has a high porosity, which favors the growth of beneficial bacteria and increases the denitrification process.
ECS provides clear and clean water while inhibiting algae growth
I think this new addition is great as you can actually use smaller versions for bigger tanks such as 45cm for 60cm tank and it would still be bright enough to support it.
Do you think the 45 would have a wide enough spread to use on a 60cm? I don’t doubt it has enough power.
@@greysileighty Yes according to their specifications it supports up to 60cm because of the adjustable stand.
Nice video 👍
How are they compared to fluval 3.0???
I have just replaced my 2 Fluval plant lights in my 140cm discus tank with one WRGB II Pro. The difference is significant. Very powerful and the light fills the whole tank whereas I had difficulty even with 2 Fluvals to light up all areas. The most exciting difference for me is how it has brought out the vibrant colours of the discus. Full power is not even required and playing around with different colours at 50% and below still gives a beautiful light and colour rendition. However, I find the Fluval App much more flexible and user friendly.
Good video like always, but only one thing.no way 7wats give 1400lumens more.by the moment no existing leds from 1w give you 200 lumens.
Difficult to please both 😉
just got my Chihiros WRGB II 30-120 for my 125-gallon tank. I'm experimenting, starting at 50%. Powerful light.
On 100% lighting i think left said is best WRGB II
Just bought WRGB2 Pro. There is buzzing sounds coming from power supply. Is it normal?
hi i have a slightly technical question. can i put 2 chihiros wrgb 2 45cm on a 90cm tank? or is it better to get the chihiros 2 90cm?
Fajnie 👌
Dzisiaj kupiłem taka tyle że 120cm ;p
In wrgb 2 pro white channel seams to be warm or cold color? 3500kelvin or 7000kelvin?
Yeah quite warm, not sure how many kelvin though
@@MJAquascaping I'm thinking about buy this lamp wrgb 2 or wrgb 2 pro for aquarium 100cm long x 63cm height and 40cm depth. What are U think about that? With one should I take? Wait and buy wrgb2 pro in about 2 months when it will be available or now buy wrgb 2?
Hello..i have an aquarium 160cm length 60 width and 70 height....i am think to buy two 80 WRGB ii Pro.... Am i will be ok with the height of 70cm? because is quite deep i think ...
Sent me the old one please 🤣 couldn’t afford it
Why my wrgb2pro all 100% light is kinda like wrgb2 a bit more blue i think i should go check my eye sight test😂
Waiting till today to order this (birthday money), but it's not longer on Amazon... Typical!!
I would rather Chihiros improve their App rather that adding a white channel to the next model. The Chihiros App leaves a lot to be desired, the Fluval App is far superior
Dear bro,

Will a 90cm version work on a 45cm deep 120 L tank ??? Someone please help me make a decision
Should work just fine!
Chihiros is very expensive in the US.
Ben benieuwd, kan niet wachten
Взял себе такой привет с Севастополя
It's not really a bit Jump from WRGB2 I thought they gonna modify the design and perhaps add physical buttons to control light manually incase the wireless connection fails
Interesting, WRGB will finally mean really white is in it? ;-)
No it doesn't. There are only RGB LEDs in this light. The White channel is a combination of the RGB. The only change was the app. The only a true WRGB light from Chihiros is the Vivid 2. This one is not WRGB but RGB.
