A few weeks ago I bought two twinstar B line 30 lights for my Fluval 57L aquarium. I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money as it is my first scape, but I knew the light I was using before wasn't really good. Good soil, good fertilizer, good flow and CO2 on a good level but still not really good growth. But now after a few weeks of new lightning the aquarium exploded with growth and the plants pairl like crazy. 1 light wasn't enough but a pair of them does it really well and is still cheap compared to other lights.
Thanks for the nice video! For home tanks, do we need to cover the aquarium when the light is already off, but the light in my house is still on? And also when it's already morning when I open the curtain at home. Thanks!

The ones I use right now, I get off of Amazon they run 1700 lumens and 6500 Kelvin they do have adjustable red, blue and white lights. But they're very cheap and I know they're not going to last long!! Thanks for taking the time to explain all the individual lights and their features and who manufactures them!! The ADA and Twin Star lights are some I've been considering 👍 Great video and great information Tommy!! Thank you again for sharing with us!! I hope you guys have a very blessed and beautiful day! 👍🌿🐟🌿💚

Great video as usual!! I use Chihiros cIi RGB well planted 30L tank and 8 hours with 30 min Ramp, would be about 7:30 or better to put 7 hours ramp included? And with CO2 inyection, at what time ON/OFF? Thanks legends!!!
the best lights i have used are the Radion XR15 G5 Freshwater lights. I have tried a ton of different lights but those have been my favorite. my second would be the kessil A160WE Tuna Sun.
I recommend seeing with your own eyes. I visited Budapest at GreenAqua. Optiwhite glasses and lights really made a great wow effect. It was like seeing a fairy tale.
I have the uns 90 u (35 l /22w/22h 68 gallons) so what size the platone light can be best for my new planted aquarium buddy. ? Thanks up front. Your answer advice would help a lot for beginners like me
Such a nice video. And what beautiful tanks. I had my first aquaria about 30 years ago and had paused this activity for the last 10 years. It's mind-blowing how these things have been evolving! I understand that this is basic info, but very useful for an old man like me. Thanks!
Brilliant video!!! When I was starting out, I did a lot of research but still made the mistake of assuming, the more you spent, the better the outcome would be; which I guess to some degree is true, I just wish this video had been around then, I could have saved a small fortune and arguably got the same results
Yup the goal with the videos to educate viewers on some practical ways. We've been there too. And lost decent money as well. Unfortunately back then there was not any info out there which would have helped us.
Super glad I watched this. I bought a Twinstar 30B thinking about the size and not the wattage. I spent up for a nice c02 setup so might as well spend for the 300E III. Thanks! You guys saved my first build from having sad plants.
I know that you guys cant possibly cover, or expect to stock every light in the market, but i bought a Finnex 24/7 Planted light for 2 different tanks, and they work absolutely wonderfully. I have had 4 different scapes under them, all 4 flourished, 3 of which were no co2 injection, one of my current scapes is being injected with co2. This light cost me around $85 dollars at the time, i think they have come up in price to around $100, but i would pay that again if i were to setup another tank. The 24 hour cycle is fully adjustable, i run about 12 hours on, with the first 2 or three hours as a gradual ramp up to 10 o'clock when the light is on full power, then around 3 it begins to ramp back down. In the evening it sits at avery low "Moon light setting". Morning starts at 6 am, with a nice redish "Sunrise color". RGB, and the 24 hour cycle is adjusted via a remote. I wish that they had an app controlled one, but i am fine with the remotes. Just one that i think deserves a bit of praise as i have been running mine for about 2 years now, and it is quite impressive still when i watch the preview of my 24 hour cycle how well it controls the lighting, and then when it is on at MAX its stunningly bright. My one real complaint with it would be that the remote has to be pointed DIRECTLY at the sensor which if your sitting in front of the tank making time and lighting adjustments can be a bit finicky but i have found once you get past this, the light is phenomenal. If in the next 3 to 5 years it dies, i will certainly be ordering a new one. Just something to consider.
Thanks for video. Very helpful for me, becouse i will soon make a new akva tank with many of plants, this help me choose the right one. Little correction : 14:28 ,, Twinstar B line is NOT white LED, its described like RGB LED (i have one :-), actualy its WRGB - it have white leds too (some of lights are WRB - white, red, blue, some RGB - without white, some WRG - white, red, green) but its true, you cannot set individual color channels on Twinstar Line B. Iam from Czech republic but i hope, that I will look at your store in person. Hopefully in the summer I will find some time for a little motorcycle ride. I really admire your work and you are a great inspiration and helper for me. Thanks for that.
Hi, my tank is a 80x30x35, i have a chihiros wrgb 2 slim60 (around 27lm x litres), i was thinking to upgrade the light to a WRGB2 Pro80 (98lm x litres, i can dim it to a 80% to achieve an 70-80lm x litres), i inject co2 and have red stem plant based tank, do you think that the light will be overkill and maybe its better to buy a WRGB2 60 (78lm x litres at 100%), or should i go for it? Thanks
3-4-21, Tamas very very educational video. I now have a much better understanding of the intricacies of aquarium lighting. I am always looking for ways to make my plants grow better and show off their color. Thank you. This is why I love Green Aqua. William, PS I am glad Balazs was not in the video! Only Kidding.
Great topic Tommy, to a new comer to this hobby I found it most useful so a big thank you. Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K. stay safe and well everyone.
Thanks ! Great video again, and it helps a lot ! I just have a concern, as many led light are really powerful, I was wondering if you are using every light at 100% of their power no matter the tank, or if you adjust the maximum accordingly to the category of plants you are using ?
Hello from Spain! First of all I really love your videos, I see them all and I find them really useful. I have a question for you just in case you can help me. I work in the morning so I arrive home at 15:00, I would like to enjoy my aquarium from 15 to 22 for example and here comes my problem. I have a pretty lightened dining room, even if the sun doesn’t hit directly the aquarium, the room is quite bright... my question is: would it be a problem to keep off the lights until 15:00 even if there is a bit of light in the room from 8:00 to that moment? Would it cause an algae problem or an stressed plants issue? Thank you very much! Keep doing these wonderful videos!
hello guys i really like green aqua gallery you inspire me and i have lots of question to ask ,but how can i get fish and other aquarium accessories here in Africa do you have brach near east Africa or shipping product from green aqua shop i really want do this .
This video is great! Thank you. Do you have experience with Kessil? Where would you place them in this hierarchy of lighting options? I’m thinking of getting their smallest one (the Tuna Sun A80) for my new 30C tank. I’m just curious what you guys think, since you have so much experience with many different lights. Thanks!
Hi Tommy... The video is amazing... I have a question...what light setting do you recommend for a new tank ... I have light Chichiros Wrgb 2... 60 Thanks
Thank you for the informative comparison. You stated that you run your lights at 100% from the beginning. It looks as your lights are also hung high above your scapes. Could you share your PAR levels? Thank you!
When I bought dymax iq9 dropoff tank, it comes with dymax spacex. Iam not to sure about that space X light by dymax but they said is a high end side but I still don't like it. Luckily the manager said I can swap with another light which is similar values. So i choose wrgb Vivid 2 slim. Is wrgb vivid 2 slim studio light is on Spacial high end site or basic? My fish and plants colour were all pop out n I love it. Can i know about what's my wrgb Vivid 2 slim studio? Thanks 😊
Hello Greenaqua! Great video!. I have a 90P tank and I use a Chihiros RGB Vivid II lamp (45 cm). I use 80% red, 40% green and 100% blue. In this configuration, the plants and fish have a very prominent color, I always observe perling and have a good growth. What configuration do you use on RGB Vivid II on Greenaqua? Best regards!
Please recomond us some home lights wich can be used in aquariums.. because the lights you have showed here are not available in my country.. we have to go for other options like flood lights.. i have 180×60×60cm planted tank.. pls give me some advice
Thank you, i just looking for new light , currently I have t5 fixture 4x54w . And I want to go with wrgb2. Should I can run the light full power for 7 hr immediately? Or keep baby steps?
this may be a dumb Quistons i typically control mine by Smart plugs because I'm away a lot of times but anyway can you get that to White and just have it go on and off like normal or when the smart plug goes off it changes color?
Best video so far not biased on any name in particular just facts and useful information and tips. I think I’m going to buy the Chihiros WRGB II LED (Built-in Bluetooth) WRGBII 120 since I have a 60 gallon tank. Can this work on a rimmed tank?
Good day GA, i've got a question, does it matter what time of day you turn on/off your light? for my current tank, i have it set to turn on 3pm and off at 10pm. thanks.
It does matter. If you have any morning light hitting your tank, then you could have CO2 problems. Afternoon-light tanks are more fragile, because of some natural light in the morning.
I have chihiros wrgb2 ... Changed it from kessil. Omg :) colours... Colours:) And haemiantus is pearling like crazy.i have to trim plants every few days. I miss kessils shimmering effect though.... But the chiros app is a garage. At least it is working if you are lucky to set it up.
Very usefull information in this one, thanks a lot Tommy! I'm planning a new tank 120x60x50 and looking at some lights for this. Looking at wrgb II 120cm. Do I need 2 to get good coverage with the 60cm width? Would really appreciate to know your opinion! Kind regards from the Netherlands!
one WRGB 2 per length may be approx. Provides very good conditions for plant growth in an area of 120x50. It depends on whether you plan to have plants all the way deep and how far the light will have to travel to the plants. If the beam is in the middle, the front and back will be less illuminated. So if I wanted to have a lush lawn in front of the aquarium, then I would think over the second beam or other light. If the whole aqua is to be illuminated in the same way, you can give two beams wrgb2 or 2 vivid 2. See SkyLight HyperSpot L- provides good coverage of the tank and does not hurt the eyes even when you stand close. ruclips.net/video/6QwnbVm5Ges/видео.html Greetings from Poland!
@@araniranir7492 thanks for your reply. I know what you're saying, the tank I have now (80 cm wide) has 3 rows of leds, just to be able to grow anything in any spot in the tank. I've been looking at the Skylight Hyperspot L already last week for the new tank. Really like the looks of the unit. Could be the one I end up with. I know of one shop in the Netherlands that sells this light, will go and check it out in real life to see how I like it. Take care and thanks again 😉
Also have a 120, also looking at the Chihiros. Have decided 2x60 would probably look weird. 90cm needs to be suspended, which seems lose you too much power (I learned about the square inverse law of light yesterday)... While I think a suspended 90cm would look better and seems to work for Josh's tank in the video, I think we are more flexible with the 120cm? It's a puzzle.
Robin, not all the light has the same spread. The 90cm ONF has some limitation on the side in a pendant more on 120P. On chihiros i would go with 2 vivid not the wrgb for a 120cm tank.
I am curious what happened iff you for example us a twinstar e-series together with a lightscreen. Will you need to account for the light emitted by the lightscreen? So will the total light value go up?
Hello from the Cayman Islands, I would like to know how many Chihiros RGB VIVID II 10th Edition LED Lights you would use to light my heavily planted (co2) my 180x60x60 tank - are 2 lights enough?
So... If I'm just starting with this whole planted aquarium thing and I want to get some good lighting for my tank (which is 20" long, by 12" tall and 10" deep, and roughly 10 gallons btw) should I just get two 15-20w 6500k CFL light bulbs attached to a lamp and that's it? The LEDs look awesome, but if it's to much of a hassle, I don't want to lose my mind over them.
If i want the light to slowly fade on (when turned on) and fade off (when turned off), that is depend on the light or should I look for a some sort of controller adapter?
Hi Tommy, Great video with a lot of useful informations for beginners like me. I just got a WRGB 2 yesterday and kind of lost in the colour setting. Can u do a video about how to balance the RGB colors and how do these rgb colours affect on the plants? Thanks ^^
@@HuuChi93 it depends on your sizes. Chinese Chihiros A series will definitely let you grow plants because it is very powerful leds and they are comparably price comfortable. SDK makes special orders of leds according to your needs and sizes of the aquarium. If you have money buy ONF and ADA those are very good ones. Amazing lights but cost fortune. If aquarium sizes are like Dennerle than get Dennerle leds. Their lights are also very good for aquascaping.
@@NoOneIsLikeWinona thank you for tips man. I am looking forward to build a 60p tank, but I am afraid that my 45cm wrgb 2 can’t give enough light, if so I might get a new a2 chihiros to help it out. Buying another wrgb 60 is too expensive lol
I use Chihiros lights for both aquariums and Tillandsia racks! I’m using Chihiros C for my beta community tank since it’s got a lid and doesn’t use up any space on the edges
Nice introduction to current lights on the market. Though I think saying "this is for beginners, this is for mid level, and this is for advanced aquascapers " falls a little short on useful information. The thing is that people buy according to their budget and what's available and not according to their level of skill. I know I do. You mention light settings on Chihiros that may not be most optimal for plants. And I say: "Oh cool! That's the question that bugs me since I bought this light! And you say: "Thank you for watching! See you next time!" A more in-depth info on this would be great.
It's a lot of information but it's hardly useful. It's especially info overload for newbies which are the target audience here. Being one myself, I just want a decently priced light that will grow my plants. I don't need some HD shit. I just need something that will work and something that is affordable. This video didn't help whatsoever.
Hopefully, you will find the info you're looking for. 👍 If you only use the categorization from this one you will be fine. You do not need other things like Par, Lux etc as this confuses you.
@@GreenAquaShop Seems like a back handed/condescending kind of comment to me. Maybe you'd like to choose a better title for your video that isn't entirely misleading. You know, click bait. Something along the lines of 'the inner workings of your light fixtures' instead of saying you're going to help people choose the best of the best lighting which you absolutely didn't do. At first this looked like it was going to be a comparison of the lights, the brands, what was overpriced garbage to stay away from and what you should ultimately look for in your price point and quickly turned into 'look at this, this exists, let me give you an infomercial about light itself instead of telling you anything about any of the products you actually came to know about'. It's asinine to be like 'you don't have to use the stuff that confuses you'. That's not what it's about. It's about the fact that we were very much misled into thinking you were basically going to do a review of the best products to use which turned into a history lesson on the origin of aquarium lighting and how the light itself worked. Cool, not what we asked for though. You did the bare minimum to talk about any of the products except for the very much realistically out of reach ones for the average person unless you just have money coming out your ass. Most of all I'm upset I wasted my time watching it thinking it would actually help, losing sleep for work over click bait. I mean God forbid I want to hear about what I came here for based on the title. Not cool, dude. If you wanted to make a comprehensive guide on the inner machinisms of light, cool, do it, but not under the guise of helping people choose the best lighting for their need and price point which is what people literally came for.
OK, people, chill. :) No need to lecture us. We get the message, and actually many team members are answering these comments. Tommy is not one of them, btw. I'm Balazs, just to make things clear. We try our best when we do these videos, and sometimes our best is not enough, especially when you have to present a huge variety of products. This channel squeezes in as much info an entertainment into these videos as possible, but please don't expect us to give you customised advice in them. Your local fish-shop would do. If you live in Europe and wish to order from Green Aqua for example, and you drop us a mail to our regular customer support line, or you call us, we'll be happy to listen to what you need, what kind of tank you have and what is your tech that supports that tank, and then we'll be able to give you 2-3 options you can choose from. Another possibility: for example if you have a 60p tank, you can just look up the Green Aqua website's lights section and filter accordingly, look at the prices, remember the types of lights mentioned in the video to be able to categorise the lights you see on the website, and you'll be able to make a decision without a question. Peace.
@@GreenAquaShop It's not lecturing just to share valid criticism just because you may not agree. That is the point of the ability to comment on a public platform on the internet. I don't care who is responding, the message can be passed on although I know it most likely won't. Nobody was asking for specific, tailored information. Doing simple product reviews shouldn't be that hard of a concept to understand and has nothing to do with asking for highly fine tuned information. People look to those experienced in the industry for advice on products that work and products to avoid, even if it's all just personal preference, so that they might be able to make a more informed decision before making a purchase. A lot of these things are highly expensive and you won't know if it really does anything for you or actually harms you until it's probably too late to get your money back. Now, for the sake of clarity, I personally am in the market for planted betta tanks, looking for lights that work well enough for plants to grow but ones that don't bother my betta. Something that's decently priced. There's so much back and forth about every little thing in this hobby that I question why I got into it, but I do it for my fish because I want them to have the best life I can afford to give them. I probably over paid already just on substrate, but I've already spent $75 alone on fluval substrate after spending a few weeks in debate on substrates and I'm contemplating 'pool filter sand', as I've been recommended, for some aesthetic difference because it's relatively cheap and I've heard nothing negative about it. It takes longer than it should to make decisions on every little thing because there are so many worrying, negative comments about fish deaths involving products and I just need to be done worrying about it. It seems like almost no one agrees on anything in this industry so it's frustrating to not get seemingly simple answers for weeks on end. I have two jobs, this shouldn't be stressing me out the way it is.
Personal preference. Both has different features and color tones. If you're after cooler color scheme Chihiros is a good one, if you prefer a more natural tones then ONF
If you live in the States the Titan 1 from UNS is almost a direct replacement for the ADA Solar RGB for half the price. I have one and it has amazing color rendition
Hi Greenaqua, I just purchased a 6’x2’x2’ peninsula aquarium and I’d like to create a discus tank with is inspired by your recent scape. If price was not an object what lights would you suggest?
hello, I understand your advises and I agree. I'm a little bit nerd :P. I wanna setup a ada 45P Iwagumi scape with monte Carlo as a carpet and staurogyne repens as foreground plant. How much I learned from this video I can use a twinster 450E . Am I right......?
@greenaqua can you have longer than 8 hr if you have a ramp to and ramp down but 8hr of full power? say an hour of ramping up to full power then 8 hours of light then an hr of ramping down?
Hi, which is the perfect light for 90p fully planted tank with full of reds and orange colors, chhirros seems to be 45 cm light will that cover the tank totally, i mean will it reach the corners as well.. Pls tell me the suitable brand with the model.. Waiting for the reply friends... Tnx.. From India..

Great video as usual!! I use Chihiros cIi RGB well planted 30L tank and 8 hours with 30 min Ramp, would be about 7:30 or better to put 7 hours ramp included? And with CO2 inyection, at what time ON/OFF? Thanks legends!!!
You need to turn on your co2 inject 2hours before the light goes on. (Balazs said that)
I was just looking to buy new lights for upgrading. This video dropped at the right time! Many thanks
You're welcome 👍
@@GreenAquaShop Welcome 😀👍
the best lights i have used are the Radion XR15 G5 Freshwater lights.
Thanks for your feedback Martin 👍
I would like to ask about lighting fixtures for the Rio 180 for natural plants
I have the uns 90 u (35 l /22w/22h 68 gallons) so what size the platone light can be best for my new planted aquarium buddy. ? Thanks up front. Your answer advice would help a lot for beginners like me
Such a nice video. And what beautiful tanks. I had my first aquaria about 30 years ago and had paused this activity for the last 10 years. It's mind-blowing how these things have been evolving! I understand that this is basic info, but very useful for an old man like me. Thanks!
Happy to see that you like the video. 👍
Many thanks. This video Is perfect. Extremely clear and indispensable to choose my perfect lighting. Many many thanks

Hi Tommy, Is Dennerle Power-led 5.0 really better than Dennerle Style led 8 W or did you make a mistake? Thank you for your answer!
Yeah. Good question.
Great video as always, by the way, what are your color setting in the Chihiros RGB vivid 2?
a class on lighting, it's a lot to learn in a few minutes, more than a huge asset

Very nice and informative. Please suggest which one we should select for Planted Aquarium - "Chihiros A II Series" or "Twinstar B line Version III"
A really helpful guide. Thank you Tommy, thank you so much Green Aqua!
This videos really useful for the beginner , thx alot for always making a good videos .

Super glad I watched this. I bought a Twinstar 30B thinking about the size and not the wattage. I spent up for a nice c02 setup so might as well spend for the 300E III. Thanks! You guys saved my first build from having sad plants.
You're welcome, glad you found this useful!
Another excellent tutorial as always very enjoyable and always raise a smile well done Dan & the Green Aqua team 👍
Appreciate your support James 👍
Amazing video. Can I use chihiros wrgb In my rio juwel 350 for strong hard plants such rotala macandra or carpet ?
Yes, you could, probably, depending on the size of the light.
Thanks

Thanks ! Great video again, and it helps a lot !
I just have a concern, as many led light are really powerful, I was wondering if you are using every light at 100% of their power no matter the tank, or if you adjust the maximum accordingly to the category of plants you are using ?
well depends if you get algae problems. Less intencity and lenghts in lighting means less algae most of the time.
oase premium light can be used with oase styleline too?
On a 45p would you rather use a twinstar e v3 or an Chihiros wrgb2? ;)
If dimming is important i would go with Chihiros. The rest is just color preference
Chihiros all the way. I use them for my Tillandsias too
I hardly comment on YT, but DAMN Tommy. That was a great video.

@greenaqua I was wondering this myself as wel. Will you be able to answer?
At home, most of us start the aquarium lights from 3-4 pm as we spend more time in the evenings, nights at home. No prob with that

Thank you, i just looking for new light , currently I have t5 fixture 4x54w .
And I want to go with wrgb2. Should I can run the light full power for 7 hr immediately? Or keep baby steps?
If you had 4x54W T5 then you can run it close to 100% performance without problems.
this may be a dumb Quistons i typically control mine by Smart plugs because I'm away a lot of times but anyway can you get that to White and just have it go on and off like normal or when the smart plug goes off it changes color?
Thankyou green aqua, very helpfull
now i know what to get for my nano tank
Glad you like the video. 👍😁
Best video so far not biased on any name in particular just facts and useful information and tips. I think I’m going to buy the Chihiros WRGB II LED (Built-in Bluetooth)
WRGBII 120 since I have a 60 gallon tank.
Try the new hub controller if you're not on IOS. Solve the Bluetooth issues with other platforms.
Nice great comprehensive video about commercial fixtures!

@@GreenAquaShop ah, alright, thanks!
That video will be great for people who are new to the hobby. Tommy is always a good laugh. And please ignore the negative whoppers who sadly reply.

Would you recommend the ONF nano or twin star series E for a UNS 30C?
Sure why not?
I am curious what happened iff you for example us a twinstar e-series together with a lightscreen. Will you need to account for the light emitted by the lightscreen? So will the total light value go up?
The tank will be somewhat brighter. Yes.
I learn a lot today. Currently I’m using chirios WRGB for my 60p. Thanks GA. Keep the good work 👍🏻
Love to hear that! Thanks for the support!
If i want the light to slowly fade on (when turned on) and fade off (when turned off), that is depend on the light or should I look for a some sort of controller adapter?
Thank you for this useful video.🙏
Thanks for watching us. :)
Hi Tommy, Great video with a lot of useful informations for beginners like me.
I just got a WRGB 2 yesterday and kind of lost in the colour setting. Can u do a video about how to balance the RGB colors and how do these rgb colours affect on the plants? Thanks ^^
I got mine not so long ago. Frankly speaking this light sucks for growing plants. Only beautiful picture.
@@NoOneIsLikeWinona so which light do u recommend to grow plants?
Glad to hear that 👍
@@GreenAquaShop awww will be upgrading to an ONF soon though :) since that ones great for betta tank with lids as well
Do you think Chihiros C2 rgb will be good for 30l cube, 35cm with quite a lot of plants and no co2?
Sure will do the job well
Nice introduction to current lights on the market.
If you only use the categorization from this one you will be fine.
I am using twinstar 600 EA.. Pretty happy with the results.. May be later once if i wanted to go for more higher end this guide is really helpful 😊
😃👍

@greenaqua can you have longer than 8 hr if you have a ramp to and ramp down but 8hr of full power? say an hour of ramping up to full power then 8 hours of light then an hr of ramping down?
from a point every hour triggers the algae and plants will not benefit from that. no matter if the light is dimmed to half for example
