Great review sir! I’ve just ordered a 90cm one for my high tech planted tank after watching your review. I had a Fluval Fresh and Plant on the tank before this that cost me $400 Australian dollars that only lasted a year before it started flickering on and off and also went very dim! Junk! So hopefully I get better results from the Chihiros. It cost $527 Australian dollars for anyone who cares to know. Cheers..
I had the same thing happen. Your light probably needs a new transformer. I had an expensive twinstar sp light that did that too and I ordered a new transformer on Amazon for $10 and now it works perfect. Local tech wanted $85 just to look at it
With the fluval lights, it happen to me as well.,moisture gets on the side of the Bluetooth. Put a bag on the side and wrap it in plastic. Left side, opposite to the wire. That have 3 year warranty
$500 LED....It makes much more sense to go T5 HO and you get even better results. Even an ATI quad T5 fixture wouldn't cost $500 lmao cheap Chinese made LEDs aren't worth that much.
Great review! I was wondering how you did you set up your photoperiod (% of each colour and time)? I have the same lights and I am getting some algae probably because I am putting too much light in.
Yeah I had it running on 100% with all colors for a while, but was starting to get algae as well. It;'s a strong light 😬 My last setup was everything on 70% for 7 hours with a 1 hour ramp time
@Ivan Salazar why do you want to know the colour light spectrum? Just use the RGB to adjust the colour you want. K are not a good way to measure the intensity of the light. Look at PAR
Upto what depth in CM will you recommend this light for getting reddish plants from the bottom of the tank instead of getting reddish as they near the light
personally i prefer all colors on the same level. on my 70 liter tank i have every color on 100%. If i were you i would start with everything on 75% and build it up slowly if necessary
My current lighting is just DIY. It works well if i am doing a low or medium setup, but I've recently redone my tank, with the intent of making it "high tech". My main goal is to get my plants growing efficiently, and colorful. namely, to get my red plants, actually red, which they currently arent. I've got co2, and enough light to grow my plants, including rotala macrandra, H'ra, wallichii, and ludwigia arcuata. All of which are red plants, but currently, they're every one of them is lime green (except the macrandra, it has a little bit of orange in it). If I were to put the 120cm wrgb ii on a 200L tank, that's 60cm tall, would I theoretically be able to achieve the colors I'm looking for?
@@MJAquascaping Thanks for the reply man. I’ve been doing a lot of comparisons, and reviews with this light, and I think it’ll be the best for me, but I wanted to check with someone who has experience with it. It’s worth noting, I already have very low nitrates. That mixed with injected co2, good substrate and good ferts, I already have some colour in plants I really didn’t expect to with my current setup. Namely, the macrandra. While it is very green, it does however, have a touch of orange in there. It’s just because it’s a lot of money, and having a tank at the height, and overal size mine is, even budget options are still a big chunk of change. But if it’ll grow the plants I want, the way I want, then to me, it’s worth saving for. I would’ve liked my diy to work, but I’ve come to the realization, that there’s a distinctive line between premium and budget for a reason. No matter how effectively I make mine, they’ll never have the right intensity, or proper wavelengths I’m looking for. So I figured it’s time to just save up and buy a commercial option. Guess I’ll give it a go
Yeah it's not cheap, but you will not be disappointed! Indeed in a tank with 60cm height you just need good quality lights to get decent results, and diy can only take you so far.
@@MJAquascaping I 100% agree. If I was still doing low light, with only green plants, and my tank was say only 30cm, I’d have no problem with my current setup, but regardless of how I set em up, diy most likely won’t give me the colours. Not to mention, if a light (specifically a flood light) is super intense, but has all the wrong wavelengths, it can actually burn plants, and ruin the cell’s lining. So, I’m kinda at the point of needing to get a decent light regardless. There’s not really any alternatives when you’re this far into aquascaping, and just aquariums in general, so I just really wanted to check someone else’s experience, and their opinion on the matter. Thanks for the replies btw. I think this is what I’m gonna go with.
Does the kelvin setting affect plant growth, i can see other settings like intensity having an impact. Is it just a preference thing, for example, if i want a warmer colour to bring out the reds more or a more washed out blue colour for a buce tank?
Plants prefer a lower Kelvin at around 5000k give or take, but the human eye might view this as too warm / yellow. I think it’s really a preference thing and won’t make a noticeable difference.

Hello matt. I bought the rbg 2 after watching tour video. After a week of experiencing cchihiros wrgb 2. I encounteres algae 😅. Mostly staghorn . Do you have any recommendarions of light percentage in order to not attract/trigger algae attack on 60cm tank? Thank you
Hey, my chihiros wrgb 2, 90cm, which should be 100w at max power after yesterday software upgrade now is only 70w..at max brightness. Can You check your Chichiros lamp power consumption? You got 90cm model? You don't get issue like this?
Thanks for the review! I have a Chihiros A901 Plus (1m wide aquarium) but I'm thinking of switching to the Chihiros WRGB 2 light. I've checked several comparisons and altough it's almost double the price it's really worth it, if you can afford it. In mine, I had no dimmer to it'd just swicth on at 100% so of course I had some GSA and some BBA (introduced, initially), but now I have a dimmer on it, going at 70% max. as it's too intense. GSA is gone now and the BBA is almost gone (with the help of Fourish Excel, of course). Also, question... Do you know if there's any difference in PAR? I mean, I read reviews from the A series where they said that different parts of the aquarium would get different PAR readings because the unit has no deflectors to distribute the light as evenly as possible. I'm wondering if this one is the same...
@@MJAquascaping ok, thanks anyway. Btw, have you had any experience with Ludwigia Repens Rubin with that light? I have some and whenever I replant it and it grows the lower sections of the plant always lose their leaves, but teh tops are always great. I've read it's a light problem. Do you know if that happens with this light too?
I think that depends a little bit on how high your aquarium is sitting. Mine is quite low (70cm from the ground, and the light 120cm) For me it's okay and it doesn't bother me.

Nice review mate! Loving my vivid 2 too, one negative point is that if the power gets off (electric shut down for example), the lights doesn’t get ON again by itself. Otherwise, it’s very nice and the color rendition is as good as the solar RGB from Ada. :)
Happy you liked it! Oh you have the vivid? nice one! happy with it? oh i actually haven't noticed that problem yet, not many power outages here 😜 knock on wood..
I got this light and there is a huge problem when power gets off. Another problem is Chihiros does not help for these problems. For example my friends has a another problem (he can not set ramptime 0). They just said ‘your light is old version’ but they didnt say anything about it when they sell this product 😊
So does this mean that if i want to use this with a "manual timer" (ie, a wifi enabled plug socket to control with my Alexa) that it wouldnt work? Id like it turn on to last setting when the power is restored by the plug. Thanks.

Hi! Can you write me about your settings? I have Vivid 2 and I don't know what settings to use.
Cheers..
Happy you liked it! Enjoy your new purchase! I think you will have fun with it!
Thanks for the video! Ive a question. I have a 60W x 30D x 45H (cm) planted tank, since it's so bright, is it better to get the 45cm or 60cm light?
Yeah the 45cm version is powerful enough for that tank!
Great review! I was wondering how you did you set up your photoperiod (% of each colour and time)?
I have the same lights and I am getting some algae probably because I am putting too much light in.
Yeah I had it running on 100% with all colors for a while, but was starting to get algae as well. It;'s a strong light 😬
My last setup was everything on 70% for 7 hours with a 1 hour ramp time
@Ivan Salazar Did you ever figure this out?
@Ivan Salazar why do you want to know the colour light spectrum?
Just use the RGB to adjust the colour you want.
K are not a good way to measure the intensity of the light. Look at PAR
keď mam 60cm chigiros wrgb 2 ale použitú na 30l akva ? akú intenzitu nastavit?
Vyskúšal by som 60% intenzitu
WRGB 2 SLIM vs A2 which one is better on white light spectrum ?
Upto what depth in CM will you recommend this light for getting reddish plants from the bottom of the tank instead of getting reddish as they near the light
I would say 50cm maximum
Hi what would be a good preset for a Carpet Grass ?,I'm new to this thanks.
What do you recommend for a 10gallon 13” cube tank? Dutu scape
Will 2x chihiros slims be more powerful than 1 wrgb2? Lumens definitely gona be more than 1 wrgb2
Hey brother please help me i want to buy this product and i have a 120 cm lenth fish tank what size light i should buy
What is the suggested colour mix percentage and brightness for 60x30x36 tank with CO2 and lots of carpet plants
personally i prefer all colors on the same level. on my 70 liter tank i have every color on 100%. If i were you i would start with everything on 75% and build it up slowly if necessary
Great review
best one there is on youtube
chihiros would be happy..
Happy you liked it! I hope they are happy hahaha
Hi mark would you say the chihiros wrgb still holds ots own in 2024
Yes definitely
@MJAquascaping for a general high tech 90p tank?? As im thinking to get one
@ yeah that light is still really good 👍
@@MJAquascaping ok great. Do you know if can buy them on Amazon?
@MJAquascaping thank you I trust your judgement
For sure! You will have no problems getting some nice red stems. Combine that with some low nitrates and you will have crazy red plants 😍
Nice review, thanks! Is it possible to automate the color of the LEDs? like lower K in morning, higher K in midday.
Yeah that is possible as well
Do the lights carry on with their usual schedual when your phone is turned off or not connected to Bluetooth?
Yep!
Can this be used on rimmed tanks ?
I think it's possible, but if you also have a lid, you might not be able to close it anymore.
@@MJAquascaping I bought the lid after I bought the tank can find any rimless tanks for cheap
Hello there. thanks for the nice video. I am using wrgb 30. What settings should be made to prevent algae growth? I use it in shrimp mode, but the windows turn green very quickly.
I like to have all 3 channels on the same level, right now I have everything on 100%
If your windows are turning green, maybe it has something to do with your fertilizer?
@@MJAquascaping The installation was done 20 days ago and I do not use any fertilizer except 1 ml of excel per day. My tank is 40 * 40 * 30 in size and I do 40% water change once in 3 days. I follow the tropica 90-day program
My local fish shop recommended running the light at 30% to prevent algae growth, if you are not using CO2.
Hello and thank you for the video .
I am setting up a low tech tank 120cm long. Easy plants and more fish friendly environment. I am interested for a light which ofcourse can be dimmed since I wont use co2 and at the same time it has amazing colors to pop up my fish. Do you recommend it? Wrgb or wrgb ii?
Yep really recommend both of these lights! The wrgb 2 is slightly better in my opinion, but both of these will make the colors of your fish pop!
@@MJAquascaping thank you for the answer! What about thermal behavior ? I read that some of the users experiencing high temperatures. Have you noticed this ?
would you buy this light today? with the new Chihiros WRGB "pro" coming out in 3 months or so. ( prob. faster in Europe )? I am between theis light the week aqua Pandora or wait a few months and get the upgraded one. thoughts?
this will be my 1st aquascape but i want to do it right once. you know buy once cry once type of thing.
I would still buy this today! It's a great light that will last many years! I'm pretty sure the new pro is going to be quite a bit more expensive as well
@@MJAquascaping thanks man! I have been enjoying your channel one of 3 FW planted YTers I watch. keep it up Bro!
Awesome video! Very informative. Quick question, do you happen to know if the stand will fit over a rimmed Aquarium (I've searched and maximum thickness from the only source I could find was 10mm)? I am planning on trying to use it on a standard 75 Gallon that has the black frame/rim around the top glass.
I think the maximum thickness for the stand is 12mm. But honestly with a little diy you can make it work 👍
Excellent review. 😊
Glad you liked it!
Hello matt. I bought the rbg 2 after watching tour video. After a week of experiencing cchihiros wrgb 2. I encounteres algae 😅. Mostly staghorn . Do you have any recommendarions of light percentage in order to not attract/trigger algae attack on 60cm tank? Thank you
I prefer to have every color on the same level, but if you are seeing staghorn, maybe you need to increase CO2 slightly?
@@MJAquascaping thank you so much matt. Appreciate it🙏
Hey, my chihiros wrgb 2, 90cm, which should be 100w at max power after yesterday software upgrade now is only 70w..at max brightness.
I haven't been able to find any information on PAR data for the WRGB II
@@MJAquascaping ok, thanks anyway.
Btw, have you had any experience with Ludwigia Repens Rubin with that light? I have some and whenever I replant it and it grows the lower sections of the plant always lose their leaves, but teh tops are always great. I've read it's a light problem.
Do you know if that happens with this light too?
is this an overkill for lowtech setup?
Would a 60cm wrgb2 suspended over a 90x50x50 tank at 100% intensity be sufficient?
Probably yes! Unless you have big and bold hardscape creating a lot of shadow
i am planning to buy this light, but do i need the shade?
I think that depends a little bit on how high your aquarium is sitting. Mine is quite low (70cm from the ground, and the light 120cm) For me it's okay and it doesn't bother me.
Hi man! Awesome video! Which tank is that? Dennerle scaper's 55L with round corners? THanks ;)
70 liter Dennerle scaper's tank 😊
What is your tank measurement?
Should i use 100% brightness ?
Hi man! Great ! For a 45x45x45 cm tank, which one CHIHIROS model I have to choose? The 30 or the 45 cm’s ?
45cm is quite high, so I would go for more power and get the 45cm version
Would a 30cm version be enough for a 45p aquarium? looking into it and might get one for my future iaplc 2022 entry! Your answer would be of lots of help!
Yeah that's perfect, go for it!
@@MJAquascaping Thanks! And in case I go crazy and make it 10 cm deeper (45x40x30) would it fall short then (in your opinion of course)?
Couple of days back got my WRGB2, problem is when phone is out of Bluetooth radios then lights goes off. What do u suggest.
That's strange... best contact Chihiros directly and ask them for help.
What type of settings is good for red plants.
Any setting on this light is good for red plants! It's hard to see in this video, but i have some red rotala's in the background, and they are really popping!
MJ Aquascaping yeah very happy! Not many shutdown here too, fortunately :) not a big deal until you’re in vacation actually
So does this mean that if i want to use this with a "manual timer" (ie, a wifi enabled plug socket to control with my Alexa) that it wouldnt work? Id like it turn on to last setting when the power is restored by the plug. Thanks.
@@surfandturfwaiks hello, i think with the last model and app you don’t have this kind of issue anymore but not 100% sure. Better control it with the app to be sure 👍
Do you think the 45 cm one is enough for an 45 cm cube, when it's hanging 30 cm above the water?
For sure! this light is super powerful, i actually don't use it on 100% anymore
@@MJAquascaping Thanks a lot for answering, that's super helpful! I have one more question: Can you make the light color somewhat warmer? I don't like cold light in my living room ...
Larsbutnotleast yep! You can change it into any color you like. If you want warmer light just go with a lower kelvin.
@@MJAquascaping Awesome, thanks again!
Nice video and explanation!
I have two questions.
1- Does wrgb-2 lights have multiple timer settings (3-4 hours in a day & 3-4 hours in the evening? e.g: can we set timer from 8-12 a.m that is 4 hours and from 6-10 p.m in the evening, that is 4 hours? And continue for next week?
2- Can we set/mix colours and intensity in MANUAL mode and save them as mentioned in my above 1st question?
Does these lights need continue bluetooth connection after settling all timers etc?
Please reply.
Thanks in advance 👍
Hey there!
1. Yes you can program 2 light periods in 1 day, and you can save this as well so you can use it all the time.
2. Yep you can mix colors and intensity in manual and save them as you wish.
And no need for constant bluetooth connection.
I hope that answers your questions👍

hi I'm planning to build a 45x30x30 tank for aquascape. Planning to buy chihiros wrgb 2. Do you recommend 30cm or 45cm? low to mid tech plant.
If you are on a budget I would go with the 30cm, It's definitely strong enough. If you are not on a budget and maybe in the future going for a bit bigger tank I would go with the 45cm.
