@@billlambert3832 It depends on what you mean by "it." For instance, many people claim he invented the finger-tapping style. He didn't. But he popularized it and brought it into the mainstream.

Years ago I saw (I think it was in a Behind the Music video) Eddie talking about the first day Sammy came over to talk about joining Van Halen. Eddie said, "We were all sitting at a table with managers, lawyers etc. getting NOWHERE when some suggested, hey you're musicians, why don't you play some music? We went into the studio and I started playing an untitled song I'd been working on. Sammy proceeded to write 90% of the lyrics out of the blue into the mic and the song became Summer Nights. I was blown away wondering 'Where's this guy coming from?'". Anyway, Sammy joined and the rest is history.

I saw them live in 1988, and not only was Alex surrounded by drum kits to the front, back and both sides, but he literally did exactly what you suggested - he spun around and played all of them during his drum solo!

Alex Van Halen used three or four different kits on that album so they added them in a big donut that rotated for each song , but he said I an interview that sometimes it would move and he would look up half way thru a song to be staring at the back wall
You guys gotta watch Van Halen's Live Without A Net DVD ,Alex Van Halen ,(the drummer ) will blow you guys away ,he's so good and fast when he does his solo it sounds like 2 or 3 drummers !

Alex Van Halen had 4 kick drums and they had special pedals that each fot played 2 each with one pedal playing 2 Bass drums. That helped him with that massive drum sound on "Hot For Teacher" He is an amazing drummer but was over looked a lot because of Edwards guitar playing.
I was lucky enough to see Van Hagar during their heyday. 6th row. An incredible performance! So much energy and good vibes. EVH was right in front of me for most of the show. In my opinion, the best guitarist ever. Forever in our thoughts, never forgotten, but his music lives on.

The most unique rock band ever. They killed everyone they toured with, Ask Tony Iommi. That phase 90 flat tone still stands the hair up on my arms to this day, other secret? He was playing on 8 gauge strings or he used to anyway. As a player, always trying to copy & break down how these gods get their sound.

That song showcases the Steinberger headless guitar with TransTrem. I owned one back in the 80s and it kicked ass. The TransTrem will actually transpose your guitar up or down in tunings. That song starts with the TransTrem locked in F. Then Eddie drops the TransTrem into E for the main body of the song. Unlike all other vibrato bars such as the Floyd Rose, chords will stay in tune as you manipulate the bar. A truly revolutionary instrument that was all carbon fiber. No wood!

You guys should check out Mammoth WVH. It’s Eddies son. Sounds nothing like Van Halen as he’s forging his own path. He played everything on the record including singing everything. He’s a very talented fella. I’ll suggest Don’t back down.
