This great song is from the 5150 album. Literally EVERY song on that album is really, really good or great! Van Halen rocks!
100 percent agree
Yeah, tired of people ripping on Van Hagar. Sammy rules
Yes!!!
@@DougOlds Tbh, I like them BOTH a lot. If I had to choose, David Lee Roth is still my favorite Van Halen frontman. But I have always liked Sammy A LOT both before and during his years with Van Halen. They were both awesome, imo, as the lead singer for Van Halen. Sammy though had a better solo career than David.
nah.."inside" is a mess... album filler.
This song is a glorious ode to my generation and what we did on Friday and Saturday nights.
We'd spend the day at the lake, go home and shower and eat, then meet up at someone's farm all night. Bonfire in the field, loud music, lots of friends, never any fights, and everybody always got home safe. Those were my summer weekends from 1986-1990.
@@Nothing-zw3yd River bottom for us. Long done by 90.
This song takes me back to 1986. 20 years old, summer, tanned gorgeous girls wearing cut-off jean shorts. Stayed out every night.
Yeah I was 20 years old too in 1986. In my Dodge Daytona Turbo Z with the T-tops off blasting this album and many others.
@@Jezza819I was 19 and was rocking in my 72 chevelle !!! Good times !!
I was 17 and so pissed that DLR was gone. Lol
Yeah, man, they don't make em like that anymore!
I was 19 and got to see VH at the Texxas Jam that summer. This album was made to play live. This song in particular stands out to me. Reminds me of driving around with the windows down, music blasting, cruising up and down the strip talking to boys that flagged us down. Best of times.
Sammy brought a whole different energy to the band!
More of a serious vibe as opposed the to party vibe David gave off.
And sophistication
A huge part of it was the change Eddie himself wanted to make, that began on the 1984 album. A change by the way a lot of the OG fans resented, and unfairly blamed on Sammy. Eddie's songwriting skills soared on 1984 and onwards, he became a much more focused writer, and so he needed more space than the earlier VH rock'n'roll offered. (I also suspect hit records became his new project, after successfully achieving guitar god status). Crediting/blaming Sammy for the sharp turn VH took is to underestimate Eddie: Eddie knew what he wanted, and he made sure he got it. (Even when the whole band and the producer disagreed, as was the case on 1984). And Sammy never had the kind of success he found in Van Halen prior to joining them. I'm sure he brought his thing, but VH would have gone that route anyway.
And boring lameness, don't forget how lame VH Became w Slammy😮
@@hackapumpYes!
Ed got sick of the stupid cover songs..like the God awful Dancing in the Street 😅
5150 is one of those rare albums that I still listen to today and, every time I do, it takes me right back to the first time I listened to it in the Spring of 1986. That same feeling is still there.
Absolutely. 5150, the title track, was my warm up song before track meets my senior year.
100%!!
Summer parties in 1986! I was 21. Woooooo!!❤🎉
The best of times for sure! This generation has no idea! Keg parties in sand pits!
The title track off of this album is one of my absolute favorites...5150
Yep!
Without a doubt. That one totally rocks
Definitely!! It doesn't seem to get as much love as it should, though.
Especially live!!
And the intro is insanely good!! I love 5150! It's Epic! And Good Enough is great too with it's "Hello Babyah!!"
This song always puts me back to the late 80's. Good memories. 😀
There is no Eddie without Alex! There will never be this kind of chemistry again. VH Forever!
And I don't think they know Alex is Eddie's brother....still .lol
Alex was very underrated
One of their best songs ever made. I grew uo on Van Halen. What a great time to be alive
First, Amber’s eye rolls! 😂 Second, Michael Anthony’s backing vocals are so good and really pop on this song. Love Van Halen!
Someone has finally mentioned Mr. Anthony's outstanding back-up. Thank you!
Nothing like back in the day cruising the parking lot of the local movies or fast food joint in my 70 Camaro. No shootings no fights just park your car and chill with your friends jamming to some tunes. Kind of like American Graffiti but in the 80s!! Never be anything like it again.
Eddie was amazing no doubt, and deservingly celebrated for his greatness. But…can we all just take a second here to appreciate his amazing brother Alex, one of the greatest to ever swing a set of sticks!!
This song brings me back to June 1988, Gillette Stadium in Foxboro Mass. Monsters of Rock tour which VH headlined. What a show!!
I saw that tour. RFK stadium D.C. Absolute killer show!
I saw that same tour in Indianapolis Indiana!
On of my favorite VH songs. We were nervous what we were gonna get with Sammy out front but this whole album drove the vibe for the great Summer of 86.
"Sammy amped it up!"
Yeah he did!
Sam Halen ROCKS!!
I thought it was Van Hagar?
It's all Van Halen!
Just like the album covers say!
I use to have this on cassette tape. Played the heck out of it. Great album 🤘🤘
Me too! Did yours have that sweet, syrupy smell too?
@@Lemons66 I did as well, the then I moved onto Justice for All by Metallica and played the heck out of that on cassette as well...
This is one of the songs that won me over to the Hagar era. They were a totally new band with him at the helm.
You haven't even cracked the shell with VH. So many good tunes left to discover from them....both Sammy and Dave!
For some acoustic Van Halen check out Ice Cream Man 🍦
-" ice cream man "-
One of those DLR era songs that just baffles me at it's popularity amongst Van Halen fans. I put it in the same category as half of their DLR catalogue, Album fillers. Not worth your time listening to. Would do nothing but leave you scratching your head. Especially if you'd just listened to something like... Unchained. Or... And The Cradle Will Rock. Ain't talking About Love. You know... REALLY good Van Halen songs.
My favorite
Don't sleep on "Happy Trails."
@@stevenkmiller LMAO! Sir, I'm gonna have to issue you a cease and desist.
5150 is still a great rock album...Love walks in.,Dreams..Why can't this be love...Yeah man....They were the days
One of their most underrated songs. LOVE this one! Amazingly, it was never a popular hit, yet it may be my favorite somg on a great album.
Summer Nights during the summer of 1986. I remember it well. Was only 14, but the vibe was with me too.
This album was released right near the end of my junior year of high school. I had bought a 1975 Plymouth Fury GT 440-6. Bought it at a police auction. Straight out of Texas. Took a month to redo the entire sound system. My car was the most popular at parties, man. I put 2 5K Watt Power Amps under my dash. As my lifelong friend said, "We have ourselves a soundstage in a Texas Interceptor." Having all of those Money Babies dancing around the car was friggin awesome, man. I had my trunk sprayed down with a coating and we'd provide the Jungle Juice in Coolers and beers in the ices we poured all over the inside. Such good memories!
I am so stoked you folks finally did some tunes off of 5150. This record is a road trip from start to finish. It's a damn shame y'all didn't grow up when we did and the parties we went to, live shows we tailgated at, and were able to see this band do this song live. One of the greatest thing about this song is the message. Just live life, party, have a good time, cruise, check out the ladies and dive into pools, lakes, beach parties, surf parties, you name it! This song fit every facet of what summers in the 80s was all about. 3 months of no school, no responsibilities, and just hangin out with friends. And one thing I love about this song is the 3-voice attack of Sammy, Michael, and Eddie.
Michael Anthony to this DAY is still one of the greatest background vocalists of all-time! His register is amazing! Eddie really nails those notes as well. Go back and listen to those backing vocals, isolate your ears on them and it's a slight 3-part harmony. This song is a headbanger classic!
Here is the official music video from Van Halen, guys. I know you've already done the reaction, but this is amazing! Wish you could have seen these guys live. One thing I always say about a band. "Best way to judge a band is what they do in the studio, can they do it onstage?"
Summer Nights - Van Halen - 5150 - HD Remastered
ruclips.net/video/coDVcuVoINU/видео.html
The other thing I love to ask myself, "How deep in the set list are they when you watch them live." Factor in environment, what they're wearing onstage, etc. How the hell bands like KISS, GWAR, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, and artists like Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit; along with those Arena Metal / Black / Doom / Power Metal bands can pull off what they do in triple digit heat at music festivals proves how badass they are.
And Van Halen does it wonderfully.
So glad you guys got to hear this timeless GenX favorite.

My youth right there. Summer nights and my radio. Love it so much. The energy. I feel bad for people who never got to experience those concerts.
Bold move taking the position they ramped up with Sammy. Couldn't agree more.
As soon as I heard the "Hello Baaabbbeeeeehhh" !!!!!...I knew right there that VH would be kicking ass for a long time..🤘🤘🤘
Sammy is the man. He's still a great singer today.
Check out the live version from LIVE WITHOUT A NET. EDDIE DEFINITELY SLAYED THE GUITAR SOLO
They already did a reaction to that
-definetly !- 🤘 🎸
@@dave9732I think he means the live version of Summer nights not eruptions.
Love walks in is a great song from this album.
-" love walks in "- 🎉
Eddie Van Halen Guitar, his brother Alex Van Halen on drums
Spanish Fly lead in to DOA!!! The baddest pair of songs VH ever did!!
Spanish fly was a killer flamenco flavored guitar intro to the hardest metal song. And I always have to listen to them together as they were presented on the Album!!!
Pure Van Halen at its best!!
This is your 18th Van Halen reaction and you still have only scratched the surface of their excellence. So many from the Diamond Dave era that will knock your socks off.
Great song from the 5150 album
Yeah, this song and the title track have always been my favorites off this album.
I remember when this came out, loved it then love it now
Van Halen will forever remind me of summer nights....
Saw them live in 86 , best concert I’ve ever seen
Did too and it was freaking awesome !! That was a rock n roll concert to the max !!
ABSOLUTE BANGER! 🔥
I remember being very proud of my 5150 cassette tape.
Dave was mostly just flash, Sammy actually brought a whole other level of substance and musicianship to the band
Imagine being a teenager hanging out in a parking lot cranking this song on the car stereo . The 80s was a great time to be a young long haired buck . Trust me 🤘🎸🤪🇺🇸
In March of 1986 ((I was 15 y/o)) when this disc (or at that time cassette) came out, me and my friends wore out several copies of it... Probably my favorite of the Sammy era....
'Summer nights' was one of the 1st songs Sammy Hagar co-wrote w/ Van Halen when he auditioned for the band... He didn't think he would be joining Van Halen but after hearing their new music... working on lyrics and vocal melodies... and then, hearing the song demos, Hagar was blown away and accepted their offer to join.
It is speculated now that original Van Halen singer David Lee Roth was unhappy w/ the band's musical direction on the '1984' album and drank to excess on that tour... As guitarist Eddie Van Halen began work on a new Van Halen album in 1985, Roth was more committed to recording cover songs for a solo EP 'Crazy from the heat'... It was released in '85 and was a hit on MTV. David Lee Roth was hoping that it would become a major Hollywood movie w/ him as the star.
That solo EP did not sit well in the Van Halen camp... Furthermore, Roth had heard the new Van Halen music and felt that the vocals required for the album were out of his vocal range... so, he had apparently declined to work on the lyrics for the songs... According to the band, getting David Lee Roth to commit to working on a track in the studio was difficult. Every Van Halen album w/ Roth was just about a half-hour in length cos Roth wanted their records to be 'short and sweet'... Eddie Van Halen wrote 'Jump' in 1981 and Roth would not do the track until 1983 when Eddie put his foot down.
In 1985, it was apparent that David Lee Roth was more interested in a solo & movie career... So, Van Halen reportedly fired him... Roth responded by taking Van Halen's management and crew w/ him.
Sammy Hagar recalled getting a phone call from Eddie Van Halen about auditioning for Van Halen and was asked to come down to Eddie's 5150 studio at his home... Hagar went there and spent the weekend listening to the new music and writing lyrics and demoing the songs... He loved what he heard and signed on... The problem was that Hagar was signed to Geffen Records and was contracted w/ them. Geffen went to court against Warner Bros. Records (Van Halen's label) and settled for a portion of the royalties from the next Van Halen record '5150' and 2 more Sammy Hagar solo albums.
The '5150' album was released in 1986 and went to #1 on the US charts without any MTV music videos... The album was also over 40 minutes in length and it sold 6 million copies in the US.
Meanwhile, David Lee Roth formed his solo band w/ guitarist Steve Vai and released the album "Eat 'em and smile" in 1986, which sold platinum... Like his Van Halen albums, it was only a half hour in length and had 4 cover songs on it.
The great backing vocals of Michael Anthony on bass. This was Sammy’s first album with VH.
1 of my all time favorites!
Love this whole album! Reminds me of cruising in guys cars with your girlfriends, probably 15 then🤣
Drums take the focus here, for me. Alex deserves some props!
This song always reminds me of playing football on the street during summer and my uncle sitting on the tailgate of my grandfather's truck playing music on a huge portable radio. Great memories.
This album came out while I was stationed in Germany (1986 was a great year for music releases).
I picked it up at the PX and put it on the turntable as soon as I got in my barracks room. From the “helllllllllloooo, baaaaabyyyyy” at the opening of Good Enough to the closing of The Inside, absolute bangers. To this day my favorite VH album.
Cheers!
Me too. Bamberg Germany

I forgot how good this song is
This song has my favorite guitar intro ever! Eddie's tone here is so distinctive and amazing! It instantly transports me back to when it first came out and everyone was wondering how they would sound with Sammy. Overall I'm a bigger fan of the Dave years, but Sammy was great, too!
Keep lobbying for VH2 “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” Such a banger!
From one of those who did request Summer Nights while back. Also really good VanHagar tune is “Runaround” from the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album.
Man... driving around as a teen with your buds listening to this song when it came out. Seeing it performed live on the 5150 Tour... it's a VH gem.
Van Hagar also known as the Red Rocker had some big shoes to fill and he did so great álbum and song, I like for you both to check out the song for Van Hagar called Black and Blue just a suggestion you'll love it. J and Amber thank you both once again for making me relive some wonderful days back when I was younger and keeping the music alive as well
To answer your question, it's always the guitar when it comes to VH. Alex did show out though here
Some of Eddie's greatest guitar work EVER!
Great song on a great album. Saw them live 4 times. Got better with every show. This song takes me back. Good times, Good friends. RIP EVH.Gone but not forgotten. Thank you for the great times, Kick ass music, and all the great memories.
Van Hagar forever!! This whole album rocks!
I don't understand why so many of the early Van Halen fans, give Sammy so much shit. I grow up listening from the start of the band. I remember when I heard Eruption back in 78. I could not believe what I was hearing. I love the Roth era, but Sammy brought out the best of Eddie. Some of the stuff Eddie did with Sammy is unbelievable! And i believe he showcased the hidden talent that Mickey had, which was one of the best backup vocalist you will ever hear. I believe the difference in the Roth era and the Sammy era is, during the Roth era. It was all about Roth. In Sammy era, Sammy was all about elevating the band! Whether it's Van Halen or Van Hagar it doesn't matter to me, they we're both great. Long live the Mighty Van Halen. RIP EDDIE!
I agree with you 1000%
Preach. They were a better band with Sammy.
That’s the exact same feeling and history I have with this band.
As a VH fan from the beginning I'll tell you exactly why Sammy got so much crap, he took the blame for the more melodic, electronic sound the band took after he joined. I think Eddie already had an idea of where he wanted the band to go and Sammy was just along for the ride. VH could have easily continued with the VHI, VHII, and Women And Chilren First vein, but you could see even on the 1984 album that the band was changing. Matter of fact the change in musical direction was at least a portion of why DLR left.
@@IisDeeps I liked Sammy before he joined Van Halen but I was surprised how well he fit the band, he really showed his talent and his joy to be with the Van Halen's and they looked like they enjoyed him as well
VAN HAGAR!!! This was one of my all time favs from that album.
Today is my first time on your channel and both of you are so real. I love it and have subscribed. Both of you are the real thing. Love you both
I loved this song and the 5150 album. When OU812 came out, I listened to it all through my high school years. Wish I could go back in time.
1986 - Just Graduated from High School straight Summer time Rock-n-Roll, The world was waiting....man what a punch in the mouth.
Absolutely epic album! I remember the summer this came out, cruising around NH in my friend's Bronco!!
EVH and that rhythm is like none other!
1985 and 1986 when this was recorded ... loved the Simmons drum craze back then!! Electronic drums!! Awesome how you said this song is "Electric", which is perfect!! This one brings back so many great memories!!! Thank you two for finally getting to this one!! ❤
@RobSquadReactions
LOVE IT!!! THANKS, YA'LL!!! Ths song SCREAMS SUMMER!! :) They were SO GOOD: LIVE!! YEAH - VAN HAGGAR!!! Eddie & Alex where BANGIN' ON THIS ONE!!! :) HUGS, YA'LL!!!
Van Halen - Little Guitars
I bought this tape when it first came out. Used to ride in the back of my Dad's pickup with my friends jamming this in my boom box. Good times!
If you want another one off of that album... listen to the song Get Up! Its jaw dropping with the drums! Alex Van Halen's most insane tune!
One of the best Van Halen songs. Amazing guitar solo.
I'm a DLR guy but this is by far the best Hagar era song. It also is the closest sounding to a DLR era song. Kind of a combo of Beautiful Girls and Drop Dead Legs.
Man, I haven’t heard this song in at least 25 years but I can almost remember it word for word 😊
I used to live in OKC back when I was a teenager....there was always something to do there. Loved it!
-cheers !-
People tend to forget Alex's skill in light of little brother's badassery on guitar. I love Eddie but Alex has SOOOO many of my favorite beats from any song that you need to stand up and recognize!!
OMG...I had just graduated high school, hanging out in the summer before going to college, this brings back so many memories of some of the best times of my life!!!
You should go see Sammy and Mike with Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham this summer, they'll be playing lots of VH in their set. Sammy is going to be 77 this year, only so many opportunities left to them live..... I'm going end of July, can't wait.
-cheers !-
August 3 for me. Closest we will get to a VH show in 2024
one of my fav VH songs...perfect time to be listening to this track. Another good one with Hager vocals is Human Beings and 5150. Actually 5150 and Fair Warning are my absolute fav VH albums.
16 and cruising on a Saturday night to this song and album. That was a great summer.
Great song! 🎵
This came out during my senior yr in HS.
81° in N. CA foothills. Beautiful day! However, it won't be long before we get 113°. In fact, it's windy here now and the Aero Fire isn't far from here. 🔥
Just curious….does the air conditioner run continuously for hours on end with that kind of heat?
Always been one of my favorite VH songs! Glad you reacted to it!!
I love Van Halen and Sammy Hagar!!! A great combination!!! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I love Van Halen and I love Van Hagar. Seriously there will never be a huge rock band and then change lead singers like Van Halen and AC/DC did and continue to be an enormous band. We all just need to appreciate it and be grateful if you were old enough to experience it all🤘🏼
One of the hardest Van Halen songs to play on guitar, because of the guitar Eddie used on this song. It's called a Steinberger, and it has the ability to change the whole pitch of the guitar on the fly. Usually you would need a device called a capo to do this. Eddie used the Steinberger GL2T guitar on Summer Nights and Get Up off of 5150, and for some parts of Fire In the Hole on Van Halen 3 with Gary Cherone.
Happy (soon to be) birthday to the great Michael Anthony. A very under appreciated bass player.
That crunchy rhythm section from Alex and Mike. 5150 is a killer album.
My all time favorite VH song! I love Dave and Sammy but this is my favorite. Get Up is a close second.
I am LITERALLY STUNNED you haven't done The Eagles. You want a masterclass performance? Watch Rany Meisner in "Take it to the limit" in 1977 at Maryland!
Always loved Alex' drums. He definitely has his own unique sound.
I really don’t care what anyone says without Eddie all that guitar Van Halen does not exist. That man is got some funk in him and a sound that no one else has. He truly was a gift from the gods may be a little over the top but I feel blessed to grow up with Van Halen‘s music. Rip Eddie. Guitar God.🎸🔥
van Halen, one of the best guitarist, with roots from the Netherlands
Van Hagar the best of both worlds
I absolutely love watching the two of you vibing to the music I lived… ✌🏼&💜
Thanks for the memories and reminding me what summer nights are (or were) all about.
Probably best song off 5150, and one of the best with Sammy. GREAT song-- :) :)
Still got the vinyl of this great album. Bought it the day it hit the record store, Sound Warehouse, on March 21, 1986!!
Not sure if you've already covered it, but the best of worlds by them is awesome
There's concert footage of them doing this song on youtube. It is SOOOO good. Not much for live stuff but these guys ... incredible. And they don't mess with the songs too much. Just enough. You basically get what you hear on the record. With the on stage spectacle as a bonus. My kinda live.
Being 19 years old in 1986 and hanging out at the beach in Santa Cruz CA with this playing on the cassette...Yes I said cassette!!..It was the best!!
I remember as a kid, walking into the record store at the mall and picked up this album…and…OHHHH YEAHHHHH.
