Gotta be honest here, when I just encountered your channel whilst searching for EV reviews, I just thought...another Tesla fanboy channel. Well I was wrong, you have proven to be a fair and unbiased EV journo and your polite and kindly manner has really grown on me! Happy to have come across your channel!
@@Sensei_Sifu Thanks, I definitely would if I spent more time on RUclips which I don't, but will certainly consider it if I start watching more videos.
Thank you for your honesty and for being open minded by giving this video a chance 😃 In return I will be honest and say that I did start the channel as a “fanboy” because well, there really weren’t many other decent alternatives other than Tesla back in the day! However now with better offerings which demand my attention, I am focusing my efforts towards more balanced reviews which I hope is coming through in my videos. Thanks for watching!
@@LudicrousFeed Absolutely! I just took delivery of a GWM Ora yesterday and I also ordered a BYD Seal Premium in white exactly the same as yours back in Nov, and that was after watching your review on the Seal. Just waiting for a 2024 build Seal before I take delivery, hoping the ADAS issues and any other minor stuff will be rectified by then. So yes you absolutely are making a difference! Thanks again for the honest reviews!
Watching all of your Seal videos and this one is WTF, what a great comparisons, never seen such a professional Job. You are nailing down the differences in a way others never do.
absolutely agree with Tom's assessment here. went and tested the M3 then the Seal before we made our purchase. the split screen on the road noise is just fantastic! why aren't your channel over 100k subs by now with this amount of quality content!?
An M3 is an entirely different class of car to these EVs. Why were you comparing apples to oranges and a G80 M3 which is more than twice the price of these EVs??
Just came across your channel. Thanks for the honest videos and the in depth analysis. Truly appreciated. It’s also nice to get information from a fellow Sydneysider…rubbish roads, traffic and all. Keep up the great work Tom!
Another good real life review. Excellent conclusion - look at the strengths and weakness of each and then select which best suits your needs. I notice you gave a price difference of $3000, but it is actually closer to $5000 as Tesla has a $400 oder fee and a $1400 delivery fee, whereas BYD does not have these fees. Also as you said BYD includes some cables, roof shades and a tire repair kit which will cost extra if you buy Tesla and want them.
Thanks! Yes the extra $1400+$400 is a sneaky addition 😉 I think I made note of it as an added text at the bottom of the screen when I was discussing the price 🤑
@@LudicrousFeed That's fine, but it undermines the whole validity of this comparison. The difference in price between the Tesla and the BYD you tested was almost $5000. The difference between the Tesla and a BYD Performance is also around $5000.
Tesla’s $400 fee is deducted yes but if you study the invoice carefully, the $400 has already been paid when you place an order. So it’s not a deposit because it’s not subtracted from the MSRP … unlike with BYD which is a true $1000 deposit and is deducted from the MSRP on the final invoice. Happy to be corrected on my quick maths
Well Tom I think this initial review and comparison is one of the best I have seen in ages. Congratulations! Eventhough you have been an avid supporter of Tesla for many years what you did here was completely unbiased, thorough and well choreographed. I trust your judgment on these two cars more than any other reviewer and I agree with all your comments and conclusions. For me what is really great here is that Tesla (which is an acquired taste) now has some real competition for those that have different tastes and overall EV’s win. Both cars are great and so are you Tom. Thank you.
Thank you for the very kind words. It’s difficult to be unbiased and balanced given we’re all human but hopefully the spirit of my intent has come through in the video - glad you enjoyed it 👍
I also found another unbiased channel. A Spanish channel called Totally Electric. Very good warts and all reviews on both cars. Like Tom, this bloke has had a few Teslas, but isn't a fanboi.
Great comparison. I picked up my Seal in Perth late December and drove it across to Brisbane last week. No issues with finding a compatible charger along the way. So while I agree it may be easier to charger the Tesla, it’s certainly not hard to find public chargers for the Seal.
The Tesla network is also quite expensive for non Teslas, where it can be used. It's even more expensive for Teslas themsleves, compared to other public chargers. In addition, the Telsa network in our state is actually less extensive than other networks. I guess it's a different story in NSW.
Hi Tom, great, detailed, real world content. Thank you. I've just ordered a Seal Excellence, the AWD and quicker variant (there are only two variants here in the UK, the other being the RWD Design). After many many ICE cars over 48 years of driving this will be my first EV. I have a charger at home and my wife has a 2021 Audi SQ5 so we have all the bases covered. Like you I thought the Seal to be more compliant than the alternatives and I was very impressed with the refinement. I will though be turning all of the ADAS systems off until they either improve OTA or I get used to them over time. Keep up the good work.
Excellent review Tom. I have watched many other RUclips channels that compare both cars and I have to say you are the best. Very knowledgeable and honest review. Thank you.
It seems to be more quiet driving in the seal than M3. M3 is more noisy. Also, when closing the door BYD seal sounds better than M3. Building quality Seal wins
Today I took a seal premium for a test drive in WA it was 38 degrees today , the roof was not hot to touch nor did it radiate heat, the air con however struggled a bit , as to be expected on such a warm day, but was very impressed , it’s certainly more comfortable than the model 3 and Y. Looking forward to you long term review of the BYD as I’m considering one in the future
Agreed, I've just experienced two 41 degree days in a row and had no issues driving around in my Seal, and even parking at the beach for couple of hours in full sun. No roof shade cloths necessary. Whatever they have done to the roof for heat rejection, it's far superior to my Tesla. So much for critics claiming Chinese brands have inferior technology.
Today (Friday) was an interesting day for me. I had a third test drive of the Model 3 RWD, then paid the $400 and ordered a white with dark seats. I chose the white mainly for ease of touching up the inevitable stone chips with a toothpick and a steady hand. We recently had a Golf 7 wagon and Polo with standard white and they have proved fairly easy to keep looking ok with a few touch-ups. Although I liked the red (+$2600) and blue (+$1500) Model 3's. I then went up the road and cancelled my order for either a Seal Premium or Performance. Kudos to BYD for refunding my $1000 deposit to my bank account within a couple of hours. I really wasn't expecting the refund to happen for several days at least. I've driven both the Seal Performance and Premium. I was blown away by the performance with its incredible power. I also found the Premium to be more than adequate in the power arena. It may have been the Premium demo but, I found the performance to be a little smoother with less road vibration through the body and steering wheel than the Premium, but honestly would have been happy with either, as they are good value for money - better I think than the Tesla. But I do like the Tesla software - never having owned the brand before, and I'm sure I'll accept the indicators on the steering wheel, and I even think I'm already liking the minimalist layout of the Tesla. The seats in the Seal are noticeably plusher than in the Model 3. The Model 3 seats are better than in the Atto 3 but don't come close to the Seal. The glass roof in the Seal is definitely cooler than the roof in the Model 3, but down here in Tassie, I'll put up with a few days of extra heat on my head. Then why did I buy the Tesla M3? One main reason! The Seal's low(er) ground clearance is a major flaw in its design. It is a VERY low car. On my steep driveway where is joins to the flat concrete car port area, I only had 2 centimetres of clearance at the front leading edge of the bumper. This was with no one (including the driver) in the vehicle - it was fully unladen. My Volkswagen Polo which is a bit low has 5 centimetres clearance at the same point and the Tesla M3 has 6 centimetres. Unfortunately, EV's (the ones I've looked at) don't have a sacrificial plastic strip hanging down about 3 centimetres that many ICE cars have. This strip is a great warning of low clearance as it scrapes without damaging the bumper. When an EV scrapes, you've damaged the bumper. The demo Premium Seal with less than 600 kilometres on it had scrape marks on the underside of the bumper. That's my concern I said to the salesperson. There are numerous other road conditions that will likely prove problematic for the Seal as well - Higher than standard speed humps and less maintained unsealed roads etc. Good luck to all who have bought or are considering a Seal. Just be aware of its low clearance. I was considering a towbar on the Seal, but I think that could also be problematic due to the rear diffuser being quite low. The Model 3 should look good next to our Atto 3 as well. 🙂
Thanks for sharing! Yes the clearance is low but as I showed it’s the plastic dampers that’s being scraped so luckily the undercarriage is spared from damage
@@LudicrousFeed I wasn't too worried about those plastic rubberised dampers at the back of the bumper on each side. They can scratch as much as they like. The front black under part of the bumper that is the lowest point to the ground was my concern. It looks to be removeable and therefore possibly a spare part. But I can imagine it would cost a grand or two to buy. Pity as I liked the car(s) a lot and was happy to have two BYD's in the garage. My 12-year-old son is happy I got the Model 3. I think it's a good choice.
Thanks for the comparison! After 3,000km I’m not regretting the Seal Premium being my first EV purchase. Tesla charging compatibility and the ADAS are valid concerns. These must be addressed quickly. Once fixed though, your comparison must surely be affected. I’ve done two long range trips. Charging is an issue, but that issue diminishes over time. Given the $80m NSW government investment into projects in flight, and the $200m allocated overhaul, the next 12 months should put concerns owning a non-Tesla to rest. And IMHO the Seal looks better on the inside and out!
Glad you’re enjoying it! Yes agreed, once BYD improve their software and more reliable DC chargers are rolled out, other non-Tesla EVs will become more compelling over time 👍
Hi Tom halfway into a 2 day Model 3 Highland RWD rental. A very easy car to drive within our very low urban speed limits. A mix of freeway and urban road driving (max 100km/hr) average seems to be about 112Wh/km. have tried out a couple hours 10amp PowerPoint charging at home with our rooftop solar, about 2.5hrs to go from 60 to 70% charge. A very nice car.
Thanks for the great content as usual. I ordered my own Seal Premium on Friday. Can't wait for it to arrive! Your videos are the only ones I could find that cover the Premium, with most channels just covering the Performance (looks like that's the only press model BYD have been providing). Our Seal will be a daily driver / town car for me. Still have a ICE people mover for the big family road trips.
Pleasure! For me the Premium has always been the best value of the three and unofficially the most popular variant so far (from trusted BYD source) so by logic should offer the best relative resale down the track
Tom Another good job well done ... May I ask do you have an area or a video you have provided the hidden warranty issues with BYD? what exactly is limmited?
Thanks! The Australian warranty concerns were documented by various media outlets in 2022 when the Atto 3 was first released. The powertrain including the HV battery is warranted for 8 years. The majority of the rest of the car is warranted for 6 years except for: - multimedia system 3 years - lights, tyre pressure monitoring, suspension 4 years It’s listed on the BYD website: bydautomotive.com.au/public/vehicle-warranty-2022.pdf
Great video. 5 months later, with the new wiring harness and V1.2 upgrade, are your final thoughts still the same of have they changed? If you could only have one EV, which one would it be?
I think the Seal is a much improved vehicle compared to when I first took delivery. Only one EV? It’s such a tough question because they’re both good cars in their own right but if I was forced to only drive one - I’d pick the Model 3 for ease of use BUT … not having Apple CarPlay / Waze is a big drawback for sure
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks for the feedback. Interesting. I have driven neither yet, but have ordered a Seal Premium. Based on all the reviews I’ve seen, it does seem like the Model 3 on paper just pips the Seal, but I like the aesthetics of the Seal and the more “traditional” driving platform
Awesome video as always. I originally wanted to get a Seal because of how amazing they look both inside and out, but when I sat in it, I struggled a little with visibility out the front from the pillar above the windscreen blocking my view. I ended up going with Tesla Model 3 Highland LR but also got a BYD Atto which we’re picking up on Thursday to replace our SUV. What’s funny about that purchase is that I wanted a Model Y but my wife struggled with visibility and kept putting it into reverse so we swapped from the Model Y to the Atto.
Thanks for sharing and yes it’s hard to find a car that will please everyone at the same time! Glad you were able to find a compromise for your situation 👍
Yea I had a similar problem with the seal I struggle with viability. Seeing around the A pillar to the mirror was a struggle, I'm 6"1 have the seat right to the ground and pretty much all the way back. M3 didn't have such a problem.
We test drove the BYD seal. It would be my wife's car for her daily commute and I already have a MAZDA CX-8 for trips/family stuff. Wife loved it but I have some concerns regarding the ADAS features and warranty. Do you think they will be fixed?
Hi loved your companion on tesla and byd I had a Tesla model 3 long range do byd make a long range model I'm having a small problem with my tesla as it as a 70KW usable but only able to use about 57KW asked tesla and they say this is fine is this normal Thanks daz
I like that you took actual measurements of the boot. Many other reviewers just quote a spec in litres and conclude that the Seal has a much smaller boot than the Model 3 but based on your measurements they are actually very similar in size
By the way, is the efficiency in the Seal comparable to the Model 3? I'm trying to decide between these 2 at the moment and efficiency is one thing that's important to me
It’s really only meant for emergency use - I still find it easier to use the screen most times. I demonstrate its usage here: Driving around Roundabouts in 2024 Tesla Model 3 Update in Australia ruclips.net/video/lx5luP-FKw4/видео.html
Thank you for another great video, and comparison. I think you would agree, that as BYD has been on sale for only a short time compared to Tesla that there is a lot of software updates to be done by BYD. I am in the UK and will be looking to test drive the Seal. Keep the informative videos coming.
Thank you. Even though I'm in the USA and we drive on the other side of the road, this is a truly useful and objective review. So many reviews aren't. So many reviews are full of how it feels around corners and useless and constant 0-60 or 0-100 km tests that most people don't do. This was a real world drive on real roads and a real comparison. I saw the Tesla's strengths and weaknesses and the BYD's as well. Styling wise, neither does it for me, I like a Volvo or Polestar modern interior, but drive wise, I'd go more for the BYD for comfort and it's quieter. But the Tesla has more directness and is sportier. It has proven safety features as well and crashworthiness.
Great review! Good to see someone doing warm climate reviews and testing. Most others seem to be near the arctic circle. :) Love the side by side noise comparison. Subscribed!
Nice review! I would just like to point out in terms of heat rejection that it appears to me that the BYD Seal in the video does have aftermarket tint installed on the side windows at least? I like to get my side windows tinted as well on a new car and it does make a noticeable difference to me.
Thanks. All the Seals in Australia have factory fitted rear privacy glass and front windows already tinted as confirmed by my after market tint shop: BYD Seal Window Tinting Optimisation at Solartint Brookvale Australia ruclips.net/video/5xj5BaGAYZ4/видео.html I did not ask for tinting at delivery
@LudicrousFeed Oh, I would have never guessed. Tinting the front side windows is illegal in Europe, but we still do it aftermarket. I'm waiting for my 2024 model 3 and if I could get it delivered with tinted windows here in Norway I would absolutely love that. I guess the utility of heat rejection is on another level in Australia than Northern Europe though, so it makes perfect sense
Great video! Quick question.. after installing the dashcam like you did in the other video, does it record front camera only or all sides like Tesla would? thanks!
Hi Tom. I think with each video you are getting better and better. Keep going! I’ll be in Sydney next week, driving down from Queensland. I’ll keep my eyes open in case I see you. Sydney isn’t that big as it?
Great comparison review Tom. I think there are only two things you didn't touch on in the review. That was efficiency and weight (which are linked). I think the 60kWh Tesla and the 82kWh BYD aren't far apart in terms of range because the Model 3 is much more efficient. On a road trip you might actually get there faster in the Tesla - it charges faster, doesn't require as much energy to go the same distance and currently has more fast charging options. The BYD is 400Kg heavier or about 5 Toms 😅. PS that would be a great 1000km challenge!
Haha thanks and yes good point about efficiency Just for some real world figures, - the Model 3 Press car in this video is showing 137Wh/km with 1600km+ mixed usage for a usable battery of 57kWh whereas - my Seal although not having done a full charge cycle yet has displayed somewhere between 14-16kWh/100km since delivery with a usable of 82.56kWh With those real world figures in mind, you can calculate approximate ranges Model 3: 416km Seal Premium: 516km to 590km
@@LudicrousFeed I reckon you'll find the Seal way less efficient at highway speeds. Most of the time, even with a loaded car @110km/h, I find the Model 3 RWD (2022 Model) does between 135 - 140Wh/km. I'll be interested to see the real world figures for the Seal. EV database puts the range at 475km with no aircon - - about 173Wh/km (versus 405km for Model 3 RWD). So it will go further but take a lot longer and cost more to recharge. Correction to my previous post - the Seal Premium is only 295kg heavier.
Nice review! I like the road noise comparison, that gives a really good impression. Can you tell a bit more on the sound system compared to the Tesla? I already understood that the loudness level is very limited in the BYD.
@@LudicrousFeed I'm sure the 17-speaker system in the LR is better, but my 60-year-old ears wouldn't appreciate is as much these days. 9 speakers in the RWD will be good enough. LOL!
Great detail review, thank you for your dedication! For my needs, I want an EV to be comfortable, quiet, easy to drive, well built and hopefully reliable. The Seal is more comfortable, quieter, potentially better built The Model 3 is better to drive (both dynamics and autopilot) Reliability remains to be seen in time (at least for the Seal) Winner for me is the Seal.
Great video Tom. So informative and helpful. For me, who lost the 2023 MY RWD in a serious accident, I’ll wait for the BYD SUV version of the Seal or the new Tesla MY Juniper version later this year. I sat in the BYD Seal and didn’t find it easy to get in and out being someone older, whereas the MY was a breeze. For now, we have an Atto 3 and very much enjoy that. I will not buy another Tesla until I have proof that the suspension is softer and more forgiving. I absolutely hater my Teslas suspension whereas the Atto 3 is just so comfortable. Thanks once again.
It was noticeable that the byd was quieter than the 3 , the ride quality of the Byd is good and compared to my Holden Caprice it had a similar road feel possibly because they have a similar gvm , I'm placing my order soon 👍🏻
You mentioned (and in previous videos/live feed sessions) that you still own a Model S - how does this compare to the M3 Highland and the Seal? I know they're not in the same 'category' but wondering if the Model S has a better ride? I've driven a 2017 P100D on a test drive and besides the lightning acceleration it was an amazing car to drive! I've been a huge fan of Tesla ever since, so very proud to say I'm now an owner (2023 MY).
Hi Tom, You have a great channel on EV’s, thanks for all the info. I would be very interested in exploring V2L as backup or switch to house load. There was another guy that did that in Thailand but would like to understand if this is possible in Oz !
Thanks! Yup I’m waiting for a commercial product that can function as a V2H inverter for my Seal … stay tuned, it shouldn’t be too far away hopefully 🙏
GREAT REVIEW. Some other channels are a bit (a lot) biased .... dare I say it Tesla fanboys. Seem to forget the years of Tesla software updates and development. You are a breath of fresh air. Aristotle "For it is the mark of an educated person to search for the same kind of clarity in each topic to the extent that the nature of the matter accepts it. .......... Each person judges well what they know and is thus a good critic of those things." I bought an Atto3 for my wife back in Oct. Have made it as seamless as possible for her, good home charging etc. We live Sydney, at christmas she says to me, can we take the car to Melbourne, I go yeah of course. Down and back no issues, great trip, came home on boxing day, no waiting for chargers, nuthin. We have also been a couple of times to Jindabyne and also Canberra. She doesn't know about Teslas / Superchargers, I was watching your video today, on our TV, she (wife) was half watching, she goes why does he keep mentioning superchargers, what are they for? I just laughed. :) we have never needed them.
Thanks so much, I’m trying to keep things balanced as much as I can when comparing the pair. Glad you guys did the drive up and down with no issues or queues, nice work!
Very well detailed comparison. I personally prefer the byd as it suits my needs better and there's a byd dealership in my city. No ev charging facilities in my country but don't really need that. Did you get a chance to test the seat cooling features on both cars and if so which is better/ more efficient? Thanks for the informative review.
Are you able to do a vid comparing pro's and cons between the Seal Premium vs Performance.....Premium Pricing is a sweet spot but AWD dual motors hits the mark also.....
I don’t think I have gone fast enough to make an educated appraisal. No torque steering in either car yet though which is an important real world metric for me
At 36:55...byd disabled firing the front sensors in forward motion. Workaround in the meantime is to put it in R then back in D and front sensors activate. As for ease of use up and down the coast, berry/narooma 120kw charges available down sth, port Macquarie and knockrow 120kw avail up north for byds.
Good tip but I think I was probably too far from the wall anyway with the wheel stops in place. Sadly reliability remains an issue for some of these 3rd party DC stations …
@@LudicrousFeed Yes, but I listed locations opened by tesla which v2 120kw and can charge byd cars unlike v3 250kw, this is just the tesla location and there could be more which I don't know about, also more v2 chargers at Bathurst, Dubbo, Hollydene and Tamworth, all able to be used by byd cars....
There was nothing said about body roll. It seems that in the right turn and the following two "chicanes" there is a difference in body roll between the two cars. How did that feel?
Hmm honestly I wasn’t looking out for it nor did it register enough for me to comment. Theoretically one would think the lighter car with the firmer suspension ie the Model 3 would have less roll … but I will monitor on my next drive
To reduce acceleration lag for BYDs you can disable auto hold and switch to sport mode. With auto hold I felt like there is annoying dead zone on acceleration pedal at the beginning.
Tom, you may wish to know that Highland deliveries have just been paused in Australia, due to compliance issues. I suspect a recall for already delivered cars too. It is likely to be due to lack of a child seat anchoring point on the rear middle seat. Seems pretty trivial, just don't put your baby seat in the middle 🤔. How long before missing indicator stalks triggers the same thing?
Thanks for yet another great video from you! I always enjoy them. I just (2 weeks ago) signed up for a BYD Seal Design model (with 82,5 kWh battery and 230 kW of performance) - however it will not be delivered until May here in Denmark. One funny thing reg. charging capacity: for my European model, the max. AC charging cap. is 11 kW and not 7,5 kW as the Aussie models seem to have. That's kind of strange?!
@@LudicrousFeedTom perhaps the reason is the price they were able to sell in Aus - the 7kw charging equipment in the car must be cheaper than the 11kw stuff sold overseas.
Makes sense plus it fits in with BYD Automotive AU’s plan to roll out their “in-house” 7kW EVSEs: thedriven.io/2023/07/17/evdirect-to-offer-100000-affordable-ev-chargers-in-australia/amp/
@@LudicrousFeed hmm yes I see. It would be great if BYD also did their own DC charging network, though I suspect that is coming too. A potential takeover of chargefox etc.
Just wonder what is road noise comparison. I have owned more than 10 cars before I bought M3 which has worse road noise except my Renault Lee-car which is my 1st car I owned 35 years ago.
Great video. It pretty much gave me all the information i needed on both cars. But one thing about the cruise controls, do these cars just have the radar cruise control that matches the car infronts speed but none of the other auto steering. I really can't stand any of the lane assistance stuff and have all that turned off permanently in my Toyota.
@@LudicrousFeed That's good to know. Been checking out the BYD Seal. Nice to see a EV That's not an SUV. Just waiting for charge stations to be more common between Brisbane , Sydney & Melbourne.
@LudicrousFeed, thanks Tom, very useful detailed video comparing seal and M3. How has your experience been with seal after a few months? I am also stuck between these two choices. May I ask you Tom, for the freeway drive, which one would be more economical? I do a fairbit of travel. Thanks.
Check out some of my more recent vids in my Seal playlist: BYD Seal ruclips.net/p/PLh3LhKaMp3hIW2xzfk5EkAMNK2pSUQ1Yh It’s been an enjoyable experience so far 🙏 It’s also surprisingly economical on the highway: Premium BYD Seal Highway Range and Efficiency Sydney to Hunter Valley ruclips.net/video/qwKwLij6e08/видео.html Stay tuned I’ve got some more range and efficiency tests coming up …
Looking at both vehicles so excellent review and timing. If it wasn't for the Telsa super charging network the choice would be a lot harder to make I'm sure..
you will make back some of the price difference in servicing and maintenance cost which is a shame that BYD went down the traditional dealership style servicing
I test drove both and had a similar impression (Seal Dynamic vs TM3 RWD). Tesla more futuristic, integrated experience, slightly more zippy. Seal more luxurious, smoother, quieter. Ended up with the Seal as it was $7K cheaper drive away (AUD June 2024).
Great comparison reviews Tom and thanks for giving your opinion which one you’d buy if it was your first EV. I think I’d prefer the interior of the Seal with the tech and instant torque of the tesla. Tough choice.
Thanks for all your videos covering the Seal, very useful. I only had a short time behind the wheel of one recently, but my view out of the rear window seemed pretty restricted vertically, like looking through Ned Kelly's helmet. Have you noticed that as well, or do you think it's an annoyance or hindrance while driving at all?
Hi Tom, fantastic review! Very informative and practical comparison. I have been following your videos for a while. It is very helpful in finalising my purchase of Tesla and BYD. Thanks. 👍
@@ThePantheonsI’m going to get BYD Dynamic. The reason for that, it’s lighter, more nimble, and more comfortable and quieter with 18” wheels, on top of that, it’s $9k cheaper than the Premium! I don’t need the extra range and bits and pieces the Premium has. 😄
@@stevenleonards4843 Pretty darn good actually. I did a brief heat test in the Model Y version: BEST ROOF SUNSHADE FOR MODEL Y? Installation & Test Otrifowd Fullshade ruclips.net/video/tp-SC-Ps_C4/видео.html
Good question - Model 3 press car 1600km+ shows an efficiency of 137Wh/km - My Seal which hasn’t seen a full charge cycle yet, it’s currently at 27% but I have seen its efficiency vary from 14-16kWh/100km
@@LudicrousFeed oh so even though model 3 has smaller battery its more efficient prob because of the lower weight. It Would be good to know the real world range difference in KM between the 2 cars .
Based on the figures you provided above and according to my rough calculations there would be more than 200KM difference in term of range. I am new to EV please correct me if I am wrong.
It’s difficult to assess the difference because they have different size battery packs - The Model 3 has a usable battery of 57kWh with an efficiency of 137Wh/km so its range is approx 415km - Seal Premium has a usable battery of 82.56kWh so with my current efficiency of 14-16kWh/100km, this approximates to 516-589km
Hey Tom! Im curious when BYD cars will be available in Europe. I don't own an EV but Im considering it seriously within the next 2 years,m after checking out how the first batch goes. I guess number 1 factor is to have a service in your country and in Europe, besides a dew countries, BYD hasn't been very active. I have my eyes also on the new Xiaomi SU7. Are EVs the ultimate future? Nice review!
Thanks! I believe BYD are expanding into more markets as they aim to capture a greater share of the EV pie. They’re already available in the UK and I’m sure they will enter more spaces on the continent soon!
Hey Tom, does the highland M3 have updated door, foot well and trunk lights? Previous generation M3 had fairly dim door and trunk LED lights. Will we still need aftermarket accessories for highland M3 and if so do you reckon they'll be compatible?
The Model 3 has had a huge improvement when it comes to interior lighting. Check out my recent test … Updated 2024 Tesla Model 3 Night Drive in Sydney Australia ruclips.net/video/QOaC2yH3naA/видео.html
TomBossa, is that a new colour available on the Model 3 Highland ? Is the suntint a film applied on the inside of the panes or is it moulded between the silicas and is it UV reactive like darkening len's or just stay's at that passive teal tint ? Such nice subtle improvements.
Here’s what I’ve seen on a TMC forum: - Windshield and Front Side Windows are not tinted - Roof is 5% VLT with UV/IR protection - Rear Side Windows and Rear Hatch are 25% VLT but no UV/IR protection Source: teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/2021-factory-tint.224430/
@@LudicrousFeed One review on the M3 (I think it was Totally Electric?) had the M3 better than published at I think 5.8s with a GPS speed thingy. So pretty much on par with the Premium. The M3 output is 208kw and the Seal is 230kw, but the seal is a bit heavier. Be hard to feel much difference I'd think.
I used to research insurance but of late I’ve just stuck with NRMA given they have a loyalty discount with multiple policies. I outline the cost of my Seal insurance policy at the start of this video: Premium Trim BYD Seal Delivery Day Experience Sydney Australia 2023 ruclips.net/video/quC_5gzj8sk/видео.html Furthermore I outlined my insurance research when I owned my 2023 Model 3: RWD Model 3 Insurance Companies Australia 2023 Premiums by Tesla Tom ruclips.net/video/IddiLs-TFSk/видео.html
@@LudicrousFeed thank you very much for taking the time to respond. I’m waiting for my M3+ (Jan-March delivery) and found in Qld a considerable variance in quotes.
Insurance cost will depend on where you live, as different areas have different stats as to claims and vandalism etc. I did quotes for the Seal Premium, Performance and the Model 3. They were all around the $1100 mark. Interestingly the Performance was only about $50 more. I also got a quote for the M3 LR, that was about $100 more than the Performance.
Excellent video Tom, I drove the seal awd in Ireland recently & the quiet cabin & soft suspension were the standout for me. Have you noticed any poor paint finish/rough edges under the car - a UK comparison of Seal, M3 & i6 was on about it. In Ireland the sales rep said its dealer ONLY service every 20k kms?? Also warranty is different on several components not for instance like the Kia 7yr/150k kms. Any thoughts on their resale values?
Thanks! Yes warranty differs between regions for example in Australia, some components are 3 years (infotainment system) vs 4 years for other parts. Servicing schedule is the same here in Aus: every 20000km. The first 3 month service is complimentary and is more of a 'baby check' to ensure customer satisfaction no doubt. As to resale value, it's too early to tell but historically popular makes/models/variants tend to keep their value better. I have intel from BYD that the Premium variant in Aus (RWD LR) is the best selling so far so by my reckoning it should present the best resale down the track hopefully of the 3 trims we have here
Thanks for the comparison, been test driving both. A couple thing I don’t see anyone mentioning, the view out of the rear window, I find it much better in Seal, and also that the steering wheel in the m3 is not that comfortable, found that a downgrade from the seal and my MG4. I still have a hard time choosing, but will probably end up taking Seal because of those two factors, also a lot of roundabouts in the Nordics where a stalk is so much easier. (Roundabouts will be better when they come with steering by wire in m3 as they have in cyber truck)
Hmm good point about rear view mirror - you’re right about the Model 3, it actually cuts off quite high and you feel like the car behind is closer than it really is 😆 There are lots of roundabouts in Australia too … one particular capital city comes to mind 😁
Yeah, I will borrow a m3 for a day of Tesla then I can better evaluate if those 3 things is as bad as I feel they are on the short 20 minutes test drives I usually get. You don’t feel the steering wheel is more comfortable on the Seal?
Tom, I think you mentioned that Mascot/Alexandria is the only place to take delivery of Seal/BYD in Sydney. That's not the case, there are quite a few others (Sutherland, Prospect, Liverpool - just to name 3). There's also the (expanding) MyCar network for servicing.
The Highland press car which I’m currently driving shows an efficiency of 137Wh/km after 1600+ km of presumably mixed urban driving I haven’t done a full charge cycle yet of my Seal but at 27% SoC since 100% at delivery, I have seen its efficiency waver between 14-16 kWh/100km
Hi, I am looking at getting the Seal via novated lease and investigating at home charging. Does the pulsar max track the amount of electricity used and make this available in the app to download. I would need this to be able to claim the charging costs via the lease. Thanks.
I just love that EVs are taking over and happy that many carmakers are challenging Tesla. Personally though, I think the styling of the BYD looks a little tacky to me. I hope BYD can learn to edit its design a bit. But aside from that, I’d still choose the Tesla today primarily for its Supercharger network.
Thank you for the great comparison. There was one thing I was keen to hear and that is the sound system quality. Can you please say something about that?
Another great review Tom as we are looking for our first EV we came down to 2 models the MY and the Atto3 we love both cars and i know i said we were ordering an Atto3 but we ultimately choose the MY for the changing network and servicing. I truly think in 5 years BYD will be ahead of the game purely because they look and drive like a normal car and they have guitar strings
Nicely balanced comparison. I ordered an arctic blue exterior and ocean blue seal premium because it felt more comfortable to drive and figured that the software will improve over time. Any information re the order to delivery time for this version of the seal?
Hey Tom Ordered my Seal was wondering if you change at home with the Tesla home 3 charger as I was going to order one and have heard that tesla home chargers work with BYD and hoping the seal works fine maybe a home charging video if you can please.
My S with AP1 does the same drifting to the right edge in left curves.....can be irritating for oncoming traffic. I wonder if something went wrong when they changed the sw to RH drive? Nice comparsion, Tom.
I took a BYD performance seal for a test drive today. It was 36 degrees, and the sunlight intrusion wasn't noticeable at all. I drove in eco mode, and it was responsive and refined with no ADAS issues. I briefly tried normal mode, and my lord was it responsive and quick. I will leave sport mode testing until I have my own vehicle as on this test drive in Adelaide you need to agree to paying the first $2,500 if you have a crash, by signing the test drive page on their tablet.

Thank you for your honesty and for being open minded by giving this video a chance 😃
In return I will be honest and say that I did start the channel as a “fanboy” because well, there really weren’t many other decent alternatives other than Tesla back in the day!
Agreed 👍. This channel is worth watching.
@@Nguyen1996-w1p Thank you 🙏
Watching all of your Seal videos and this one is WTF, what a great comparisons, never seen such a professional Job. You are nailing down the differences in a way others never do.
Thanks! That’s very kind of you to say
absolutely agree with Tom's assessment here. went and tested the M3 then the Seal before we made our purchase. the split screen on the road noise is just fantastic! why aren't your channel over 100k subs by now with this amount of quality content!?
Haha thanks, too kind
An M3 is an entirely different class of car to these EVs. Why were you comparing apples to oranges and a G80 M3 which is more than twice the price of these EVs??
@@meteora8888 m3 = tesla model 3 in this scenario, not a bmw m3...
Just came across your channel. Thanks for the honest videos and the in depth analysis. Truly appreciated. It’s also nice to get information from a fellow Sydneysider…rubbish roads, traffic and all. Keep up the great work Tom!
Thanks for checking out my content! You’ll only get real world analyses here 😁
Another good real life review.
The TESLA $400 order fee is deducted from the final invoice.
Don't worry BYD are going to make the money back with mandatory serving to keep warranty intact (for what there is of it).
Wow good work! Yes certainly not impossible but the DC network in Australia could be made easier
The Tesla network is also quite expensive for non Teslas, where it can be used. It's even more expensive for Teslas themsleves, compared to other public chargers. In addition, the Telsa network in our state is actually less extensive than other networks. I guess it's a different story in NSW.
Evie just increased their pricing recently … (Jan 2024)
how'd you go across the nullarbor?
@@amesoeurs We would have to want to cross the Nullarbor by car first, before worrying about how to actually do it.
This is the best comparison video of these two EVs. Those real world scenario comparisons like road noise and parking *chefs kiss*
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it
What a review. Thanks man. I take delivery of my M3LR soon. LOVE the comment at the end. Props for including that.
Cheers! Enjoy the M3LR 👍😃
Great comparison. My first EV will be the Seal. The plush look of the cabin, road noise and indicator stalks are the differentiaters for me.
Still can’t believe the interior finish for the price
My pleasure and I’m glad you found my content useful. Hope the Seal makes its way to you with haste 😃👍
Excellent review Tom. I have watched many other RUclips channels that compare both cars and I have to say you are the best. Very knowledgeable and honest review. Thank you.
Aww thanks, too kind. I’m merely drawing on my own personal experience and that’s all I can do
It seems to be more quiet driving in the seal than M3. M3 is more noisy. Also, when closing the door BYD seal sounds better than M3. Building quality Seal wins
I like your impartial comparison. Well done, looking forward for another vlog.
Thank you 🙏
Today I took a seal premium for a test drive in WA it was 38 degrees today , the roof was not hot to touch nor did it radiate heat, the air con however struggled a bit , as to be expected on such a warm day, but was very impressed , it’s certainly more comfortable than the model 3 and Y. Looking forward to you long term review of the BYD as I’m considering one in the future
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. Stay tuned, I’ll try to do regular time-based reviews
@@LudicrousFeed Have a feeling Syd Bne might not have been so smooth :)
Another great video and a genuine real world comparison between two comparable vehicles. Thanks so much.
Pleasure 🙏
Love the comparison at the end. Having dB readings would be helpful as the BYD sounds very similar in level but is a lower pitch coming through?
"full head of head" 13:05. Seems like the sun is affecting you badly! haha
😆Driving and commentating …
Of course I meant to say “full head of hair” 😅
The issue with the v3 supercharger has been in some cases that the dectect child is activated and interfere with charging.
Hmm … interesting maybe worth trying
The majority of the rest of the car is warranted for 6 years except for:
- multimedia system 3 years
- lights, tyre pressure monitoring, suspension 4 years
It’s listed on the BYD website: bydautomotive.com.au/public/vehicle-warranty-2022.pdf
Sorry for multiple posts, but BYD states 3-phase 11kw on the seal in eu.
Yes but sadly we get the 7kW AC charging version in Australia. I’ll question any possible upgrade options when I take my car for its first service
Best non partial, honest review.
Thank you 🙏
Awesome video as always.
Model 3/Y does seem to have a bigger field of view through the windshield - somewhat obvious even through my camera lens …
Great video, just test drove both. Going with the premium Seal!
Good choice!
We test drove the BYD seal. It would be my wife's car for her daily commute and I already have a MAZDA CX-8 for trips/family stuff. Wife loved it but I have some concerns regarding the ADAS features and warranty. Do you think they will be fixed?
Reportedly an update will come but no fixed ETA

Great video and commentary as always. Well doneTom. We love our Tesla MY, but great to see more quality EVs becoming more available in Australia ❤
Thanks! Choice is ultimately what drives quality
I like that you took actual measurements of the boot. Many other reviewers just quote a spec in litres and conclude that the Seal has a much smaller boot than the Model 3 but based on your measurements they are actually very similar in size
They’re pretty similar as you can see
By the way, is the efficiency in the Seal comparable to the Model 3? I'm trying to decide between these 2 at the moment and efficiency is one thing that's important to me
@@iantelinside The Model 3 is more efficient. Hard to beat Tesla efficiency

Thank you for another great video, and comparison. I think you would agree, that as BYD has been on sale for only a short time compared to Tesla that there is a lot of software updates to be done by BYD. I am in the UK and will be looking to test drive the Seal. Keep the informative videos coming.
Indeed, I’m looking forward to see what they can do with the software
3:48 Is that the usual interior finish of the Model 3 boot ? I guess you aren't looking at that all that often, but that looks pretty average.
Yes that’s standard for Model 3
If you can add headlights comparison between the two would be great. Good and thorough comparison nonetheless 👍
Thank you 🙏
Thanks! I’m glad you got what I was trying to do with my real world tests 👍😃
Great review! Good to see someone doing warm climate reviews and testing. Most others seem to be near the arctic circle. :) Love the side by side noise comparison. Subscribed!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Nice review! I would just like to point out in terms of heat rejection that it appears to me that the BYD Seal in the video does have aftermarket tint installed on the side windows at least? I like to get my side windows tinted as well on a new car and it does make a noticeable difference to me.
Thanks. All the Seals in Australia have factory fitted rear privacy glass and front windows already tinted as confirmed by my after market tint shop: BYD Seal Window Tinting Optimisation at Solartint Brookvale Australia
ruclips.net/video/5xj5BaGAYZ4/видео.html
I did not ask for tinting at delivery
@LudicrousFeed Oh, I would have never guessed. Tinting the front side windows is illegal in Europe, but we still do it aftermarket. I'm waiting for my 2024 model 3 and if I could get it delivered with tinted windows here in Norway I would absolutely love that. I guess the utility of heat rejection is on another level in Australia than Northern Europe though, so it makes perfect sense
Great video! Quick question.. after installing the dashcam like you did in the other video, does it record front camera only or all sides like Tesla would? thanks!
Only the front
Hi Tom. I think with each video you are getting better and better. Keep going! I’ll be in Sydney next week, driving down from Queensland. I’ll keep my eyes open in case I see you. Sydney isn’t that big as it?
Thank you, trying to be as objective as I can (with natural biases in mind of course)
Sydney’s manageable … it’s not as big as Tokyo 😆
Really good comp, Tom, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
A very thorough review, which I'll watch again before I make my final decision. Well done!
Good idea!
Haha thanks and yes good point about efficiency
Just for some real world figures,
- the Model 3 Press car in this video is showing 137Wh/km with 1600km+ mixed usage for a usable battery of 57kWh whereas
- my Seal although not having done a full charge cycle yet has displayed somewhere between 14-16kWh/100km since delivery with a usable of 82.56kWh
With those real world figures in mind, you can calculate approximate ranges
Model 3: 416km
Seal Premium: 516km to 590km
Hwy consumption of the 🦭 would be interesting. At 110kmh
Ah yes I thought we were discussing mixed urban usage. Highway range is a whole different kettle of fish
Nice review! I like the road noise comparison, that gives a really good impression. Can you tell a bit more on the sound system compared to the Tesla? I already understood that the loudness level is very limited in the BYD.
Thanks! Both sound systems are adequate enough for me without being spectacular
@@LudicrousFeed My brief listen to both sound system had the M3 system sounding a bit better, and its miles better than in the Atto 3.
Agreed the sound system in the Model 3 is better than the Seal
@@LudicrousFeed I'm sure the 17-speaker system in the LR is better, but my 60-year-old ears wouldn't appreciate is as much these days. 9 speakers in the RWD will be good enough. LOL!
Great detail review, thank you for your dedication!
For my needs, I want an EV to be comfortable, quiet, easy to drive, well built and hopefully reliable.
The Seal is more comfortable, quieter, potentially better built
The Model 3 is better to drive (both dynamics and autopilot)
Reliability remains to be seen in time (at least for the Seal)
Winner for me is the Seal.
Pleasure and I’m glad you found it useful 👍
Thanks! Sorry to hear about your accident 😔
Glad you’re enjoying your Atto 3 👍
I dont understand how byd is a better ride when the suspension is so soft until it is bouncing up and down a bit while driving...
Suspension is a spectrum. You have to decide where you sit along it
It was noticeable that the byd was quieter than the 3 , the ride quality of the Byd is good and compared to my Holden Caprice it had a similar road feel possibly because they have a similar gvm , I'm placing my order soon 👍🏻
It’s a great ride 🙏
Great video. Love the way you do reviews and comparisons.
Glad you enjoy it!
he is the king of neutral integrity when it comes to looking at cars. love it
You mentioned (and in previous videos/live feed sessions) that you still own a Model S - how does this compare to the M3 Highland and the Seal? I know they're not in the same 'category' but wondering if the Model S has a better ride? I've driven a 2017 P100D on a test drive and besides the lightning acceleration it was an amazing car to drive! I've been a huge fan of Tesla ever since, so very proud to say I'm now an owner (2023 MY).
Good question and yes my 2015 Model S is a classic and has a very smooth ride 👌

I bought an Atto3 for my wife back in Oct.
Thanks! The seat cooling seems to be quite effective in both cars 👍
its still so nice to see Australian roads in an ev video!
More to come!
Are you able to do a vid comparing pro's and cons between the Seal Premium vs Performance.....Premium Pricing is a sweet spot but AWD dual motors hits the mark also.....
Sure that’s on the todo list 👍✅
What is the handling comparison at higher speeds, under/oversteer?
Hopefully more Tesla Superchargers open to all EVs in 2024
There was nothing said about body roll.
You have my blue Tesla LOL. Just got notified that mine is in Australia and should pick it up after the 22nd
I promise you that this is a media car 😅
Congrats and enjoy!
Gettn mine next week ous ous
To reduce acceleration lag for BYDs you can disable auto hold and switch to sport mode. With auto hold I felt like there is annoying dead zone on acceleration pedal at the beginning.
Interesting … I am yet to enjoy Sport Mode 🏁 but will try this tip
@@LudicrousFeed Are you mostly leaving it in eco mode for the first 2K? I read in the manual that this is recommended..
@@Paul-ow9dd I can assure you I’ve been “breaking the car in” gently and not driving at high speed 😁
@@LudicrousFeeddo you really need to “break in” with electric cars? 😮
I tried in Sport Mode in Seal Dynamic, no issue at all about instant power delivery, it’s very responsive with acc pedal.
Yes I also got the notice for my Model 3 order of the delay. Check out 37:55 of this video where I make mention of the potential issue
I’m envious you get 11kW!
I’ll have to question BYD if I get as a chance as to why AC charging rates vary between markets 🤷♂️
@@Cam-uo8ey If BYD can start their own decent DC network that would be a game changer
I use the dukes of hazard for my lock sound can you do that with a BYD
Your neighbours must love you 😆
Can’t customise the horn in the BYD AFAIK
Just wonder what is road noise comparison. I have owned more than 10 cars before I bought M3 which has worse road noise except my Renault Lee-car which is my 1st car I owned 35 years ago.
What did you think of my side by side road noise comparison in the video?
Great video. It pretty much gave me all the information i needed on both cars. But one thing about the cruise controls, do these cars just have the radar cruise control that matches the car infronts speed but none of the other auto steering. I really can't stand any of the lane assistance stuff and have all that turned off permanently in my Toyota.
Yes you can toggle the AutoSteer on/off
@@LudicrousFeed That's good to know.
Thanks.
Check out some of my more recent vids in my Seal playlist: BYD Seal

Stay tuned I’ve got some more range and efficiency tests coming up …
love the byd but as you said its the same mike in both cars the byd bongs and indicators sound very loud
Under the current software yes they’re fairly intrusive with their default settings
Looking at both vehicles so excellent review and timing. If it wasn't for the Telsa super charging network the choice would be a lot harder to make I'm sure..
Yeah for sure it’s hard to overlook the ease of charging on the Supercharging network when deciding ⚖️
you will make back some of the price difference in servicing and maintenance cost which is a shame that BYD went down the traditional dealership style servicing
True but 5 years of BYD servicing is $1384 which is still less than Tesla’s $1400 delivery fee 😆
Yes look out for those occasional discounts - certainly makes it very appealing
Great comparison reviews Tom and thanks for giving your opinion which one you’d buy if it was your first EV. I think I’d prefer the interior of the Seal with the tech and instant torque of the tesla. Tough choice.
Thanks! I agree it is a tough choice and that's a good thing
Pleasure. It’s a similar issue with the Model 3 also where it feels like trailing cars feel closer than they actually are
Hi Tom, fantastic review! Very informative and practical comparison. I have been following your videos for a while. It is very helpful in finalising my purchase of Tesla and BYD. Thanks. 👍
Thanks! Glad you’ve found my content helpful in your decision making
What are you leaning towrads?
@@ThePantheonsI’m going to get BYD Dynamic. The reason for that, it’s lighter, more nimble, and more comfortable and quieter with 18” wheels, on top of that, it’s $9k cheaper than the Premium! I don’t need the extra range and bits and pieces the Premium has. 😄
@@jonathanchen6489 congrats, do you already have solar and or a charger for home?
How do the car audio systems compare?
Tesla probably has the slight edge but the BYD is not terrible - it’s adequate for my needs
Can someone confirm if there are model 3 Highland version specific retractable roof shades? Which ones are the best at heat rejection. Thanks
If I’m not mistaken it’s the same frame as previous gen cars so current after market shades should fit … but happy to be corrected
@LudicrousFeed can you comment on how effective the retractable roofshades are in blocking radiant heat in the model 3 ?
@@stevenleonards4843 Pretty darn good actually. I did a brief heat test in the Model Y version: BEST ROOF SUNSHADE FOR MODEL Y? Installation & Test Otrifowd Fullshade

@LudicrousFeed so that's the radiant heat problem solved..i really noticed that on a hot day.. it's unberable in he tesla.
Does the BYD Seal have a Keep Climate on feature like the Tesla Model 3.
It’s got preconditioning via the app which you can schedule and set a timer for
Or can press the last button on the remote for 5seconds to turn air cond on as you are walking towards it(handy if coming back from grocery shopping)
Yeah that button is handy
No dog mode don’t think if that’s what you’re asking
Hi Tom, how much was the efficiency in term Wh/km on both car during your testing ?
Good question
- Model 3 press car 1600km+ shows an efficiency of 137Wh/km
- My Seal which hasn’t seen a full charge cycle yet, it’s currently at 27% but I have seen its efficiency vary from 14-16kWh/100km
It’s difficult to assess the difference because they have different size battery packs
- The Model 3 has a usable battery of 57kWh with an efficiency of 137Wh/km so its range is approx 415km
- Seal Premium has a usable battery of 82.56kWh so with my current efficiency of 14-16kWh/100km, this approximates to 516-589km
Check out my recent test … Updated 2024 Tesla Model 3 Night Drive in Sydney Australia

TomBossa, is that a new colour available on the Model 3 Highland ? Is the suntint a film applied on the inside of the panes or is it moulded between the silicas and is it UV reactive like darkening len's or just stay's at that passive teal tint ? Such nice subtle improvements.
Here’s what I’ve seen on a TMC forum: - Windshield and Front Side Windows are not tinted
- Roof is 5% VLT with UV/IR protection
- Rear Side Windows and Rear Hatch are 25% VLT but no UV/IR protection

Great comparison video, not biased at all. Also agree with Justin's comment. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Will do!
hi there , what is their official respective 0 to 100 km/ hr time ?
0-100kph stated times:
Model 3 RWD 6.1s
Seal Premium 5.9s
@@LudicrousFeed One review on the M3 (I think it was Totally Electric?) had the M3 better than published at I think 5.8s with a GPS speed thingy. So pretty much on par with the Premium. The M3 output is 208kw and the Seal is 230kw, but the seal is a bit heavier. Be hard to feel much difference I'd think.
Perfect timing. Just coming to the end of my Model 3 2021 lease in May and am really keen on the BYD.
Good to have more choice now
Could you please compare the insurance premiums applicable to each vehicle and which insurance company you use?
I used to research insurance but of late I’ve just stuck with NRMA given they have a loyalty discount with multiple policies.
I outline the cost of my Seal insurance policy at the start of this video: Premium Trim BYD Seal Delivery Day Experience Sydney Australia 2023 ruclips.net/video/quC_5gzj8sk/видео.html
Furthermore I outlined my insurance research when I owned my 2023 Model 3: RWD Model 3 Insurance Companies Australia 2023 Premiums by Tesla Tom

@@LudicrousFeed thank you very much for taking the time to respond. I’m waiting for my M3+ (Jan-March delivery) and found in Qld a considerable variance in quotes.
Pays to shop around 🙏
Hmm good point about rear view mirror - you’re right about the Model 3, it actually cuts off quite high and you feel like the car behind is closer than it really is 😆
There are lots of roundabouts in Australia too … one particular capital city comes to mind 😁
Yeah, I will borrow a m3 for a day of Tesla then I can better evaluate if those 3 things is as bad as I feel they are on the short 20 minutes test drives I usually get.
You don’t feel the steering wheel is more comfortable on the Seal?
Gotta be honest, nothing beats the feel of real leather and that includes steering wheel
Admirable how many comments you answer!
@@LudicrousFeed You can include Hobart as well. We love our roundabouts down here. 🙂
Ah I see, my apologies then. Great to see them expanding their network
How does the efficiency between the two cars compare.
The Highland press car which I’m currently driving shows an efficiency of 137Wh/km after 1600+ km of presumably mixed urban driving
I haven’t done a full charge cycle yet of my Seal but at 27% SoC since 100% at delivery, I have seen its efficiency waver between 14-16 kWh/100km
Hi, I am looking at getting the Seal via novated lease and investigating at home charging. Does the pulsar max track the amount of electricity used and make this available in the app to download. I would need this to be able to claim the charging costs via the lease. Thanks.
Yes it does I’ll do a full review shortly with the Seal 👍🦭
I just love that EVs are taking over and happy that many carmakers are challenging Tesla. Personally though, I think the styling of the BYD looks a little tacky to me. I hope BYD can learn to edit its design a bit. But aside from that, I’d still choose the Tesla today primarily for its Supercharger network.
The more choice the better for consumers
Thank you for the great comparison. There was one thing I was keen to hear and that is the sound system quality. Can you please say something about that?
Hard to document on RUclips re: sound quality due to copyright issues but the Model 3 has the edge in this department imo
@@LudicrousFeed Even with RWD which has smaller system than LR?
Yes even the RWD
Another great review Tom as we are looking for our first EV we came down to 2 models the MY and the Atto3 we love both cars and i know i said we were ordering an Atto3 but we ultimately choose the MY for the changing network and servicing. I truly think in 5 years BYD will be ahead of the game purely because they look and drive like a normal car and they have guitar strings
Gotta love that Smoke on the Water feeling 😁🎸
If you know you know
Nicely balanced comparison. I ordered an arctic blue exterior and ocean blue seal premium because it felt more comfortable to drive and figured that the software will improve over time. Any information re the order to delivery time for this version of the seal?
Thanks and congrats! My Seal was delivered in about 2 months but then again mine is fairly standard: black interior, white exterior
Hey Tom
Ordered my Seal was wondering if you change at home with the Tesla home 3 charger
as I was going to order one and have heard that tesla home chargers work with BYD and
hoping the seal works fine maybe a home charging video if you can please.
Yup stay tuned I will have a home charging vid soon!

My S with AP1 does the same drifting to the right edge in left curves.....can be irritating for oncoming traffic. I wonder if something went wrong when they changed the sw to RH drive? Nice comparsion, Tom.
Thanks! Probably a RHD/LHD issue as others have suggested
Probably smart to get people to put down a deposit to test the Performance variant 😁
