    So far in my Model Y (since buying in August last year) I've done two road trips from Brisbane to Rockhampton. Both were about 1500km return which included running around in the local Rocky/Yeppoon areas. The extra time it took to charge on each leg was about 1.5 hrs (excluding some time it took waiting for a charger to become available in one instance). Yes I could have saved that time driving an ICE vehicle, but they way I like to look at it is it's time you can use (like you've said here Tom) to have something to eat, use the restrooms, stretch the legs, walk the dog, and just generally sit and relax (Netflix time!!) for a short while. I really find it helps with the fatigue side of things, which is a major issue on our highways which can lead to major injury or death. There's no prizes for arriving at your destination an hour or so quicker! You just need to factor in that extra time needed.

      Even if an ICE, I'd hope you'd stop for lunch and toilet breaks anyway.. so the real 'normal' comparison would be less again.

    Great video Tom. First of all I got super excited to spot a Polestar at 7:45 cruising past! Now, It’s great to show people how chargers work and the Seal did well with its curve. I will say given the penchant for Aussies to drive gas guzzlers such as the Ranger, your comparison to fuel vs DC was generous. Also more likely to be DC charging in regional areas where petrol/diesel is more expensive, such as here on KI where it’s often closer to 2.50 a litre. Hopefully as more competitors enter the market and they start ripping out petrol bowers to replace them with DCs, things may become cheaper but that’s probably wishful thinking! I’m heading off today myself in the Polestar on another road trip, this time from KI to Port Lincoln, testing the RAA’s excellent network along the way. You keep up the good work!

    Took 72 minutes to go from 18% to 100% which honestly wasn’t too bad. Was at a 150kw charger and most of the charge, prior to 80%, it was charging at ~90KW. Pretty impressed. And all for $44, which is a third of what our G20 BMW cost to fill with petrol. Went from 97% to 18% in 349kms, and a majority of it was at ~120kmh down to Berry from Northern Sydney (knowing EVs are less efficient at highway speeds). So by my calculations we’d get about 450kms on one full charge on the highway, and I’m thinking it would run into the 500s if it was all city driving. Very impressed this far with it. Would have never even thought to drive a Seal had it not been for your great videos! Oh and the pano roof def is much cooler in the sun that Teslas, didn’t even get warm in a day of sunshine!

    We charge at home, on solar, regularly. Keeps the cost of owning an EV very low. Good to see such a great DC charge curve on the Seal, especially for road trips!

      What's better than low cost home charging? Free public charging 😅 - look it's not as convenient but it may be an option if you're wanting to keep costs really low and you don't have home charging options like some. Jolt gives 7kWh free a day (25kW) and lots of shops have free 11kW AC, provided you can get a spot. All of this costs time, but it's worth it for me, having paid maybe $40 in almost a year of ownership, so like $1/week? 🤑

    Thanks, Tom, for all your BYD content so far. I for one really appreciate it. I’m going off topic here a bit but I’m one of the 1400 customers (as told to me from the Sales Rep in Nedlands, Perth) that have put $1000 down on some variant of the Seal. I’m as keen as mustard to take delivery of mine but alas I was told that there will be only two shipments arriving in Fremantle in 2024, one in April and one in June. Mine is expected in June. Not the early 2024 I was expecting. On a positive note, the test drive went beautifully. Just need to be patient now.

      My new ( one week) BYD Seal shut down - no sign of life. Smart key achieved nothing. Rang customer service. Solution was to press a number of times the button on the door handle which fired up all the electronics.

    Thanks for your videos on EVs Tom. Great to get an actual users perspective on owning an EV. In regards to why charging slows after 80% the main reason is that charging is not linear like filling a normal gas (petrol) tank. But charging slows as the battery becomes full. When empty, electrons can easily find a spare spot, as the battery fills, it takes longer for them to organise a spare position. As shown in your video, the charge rate started to drop off around 60%... 80% is a good stopoff point. Not quite full, but still a good amount of charge. So, this is a simple explanation and EV owners should look into maximising their batteries life with some simple research. Hope this helps.

      Yes interesting that BYD charge curve is quite flat whereas with Tesla I’ve found it is more of a linear decrease over time

      Hi mate can I ask if you have done the figures how much a charge is coating you from home? Really interested in getting the mid range seal.

      @@triplex7144 Easy to work out. A full charge is 82kWh. Multiply that what you pay at home $/kWh so for example if you're paying 10c/kWh then it's $8.20 for a full cycle (approx 500km)

      Thanks and I’m well aware that LFP can charge to 100% but as you can see, the final 20% still slows down. This is the same with other LFP cars eg Tesla Model 3/Y RWD variants. I will charge to 100% overnight in my garage given it is usually not time sensitive

      The Seal still pulls around 70-80kW up to 90%, so that's a real option

    As usual no shelter (thanks for making that point). Public charging in Europe is similar - you have to charge in the dark in remote locations whilst out in the snow and rain. And it's a mess of disjointed companies with App after App. In three years I've only had 2 or 3 faultless charging events. The car's fine, public charging is total rubbish.

    One of the Norwegian reviewers found the Atto3 did not appear to be actively managing the battery temperature and appears to hold off until the battery started to get quite warm, maybe the Seal is performing the same routine. I'm not sure if this is the case but worth checking battery condition with car scanner to see what is happening within the BMS.

      V3 chargers don’t work with the Seal. Confirmed as being investigated by BYD.

    Wondering if you have your range in the car set to dynamic which gives you a more realistic estimate based on your driving habits?
    Through a bit of testing in my premium I'd be very confident of a trip of 500klm.

      Worst projection of range I’ve had from my Premium is about 460. That was high speed driving on the freeway into a strong headwind. 550km projection on the return!

    When you reviewed the app, I thought it was a huge omission not being able to schedule and define a limit to the charging. But as you stated, the app is easily updated and this feature should be on its way. Not being able to limit the charge is a major oversight and probably much harder to fix for BYD.

      @LudicrousFeed given the fact that the charger actually sits in the car, it is the responsibility of BYD. The early iPace couldn't do this either (or charge three phase), that's why I didn't buy it, despite loving the look of it. A "charging" station really just provides electricity. All the smarts sit in your car.

      ​@@AKA001if I'm not mistaken the charger in the car is just to convert AC to DC, since Tom was charging at a DC charger the actual charger is outside the car.

      @SS-yw7vo that's not the point mate. I can put a timer on my 240v 10amp socket. The onus is on the car to control its power intake and to at least offer the opportunity to stop it remotely or to know how much time you're going to be somewhere when it hits 80%. Tom is an experienced EV owner and he knows how much of an omission this feature is. And if BYD don't do something about, it will never attract Tesla or Polestar owners. MG, like all other Chinese brands are extremely poor in the ability to manage its charging or their overertness and reliability of the efficiency.

    Finally picked up our Seal Perf and love it so far! Ordered everything you had added to yours; the vent covers, sunnies holder, dashcam et cetera! Thanks for all the great advice. Have a question, not sure you can help with advice, but it’s our first EV and the charging bit is a bit daunting. Took us some time last night to find a charger that had a cable from the charger (Evie in Macquarie Centre), but went to a few chargers that had no cables attached to the charger, wondering if you know if there’s a more universal charging cable that we need to buy to use the chargers that say “cables required”. Could you possibly advise what type of cable we’d need to charge the Seal (at ones like Evie or others, and also using a Tesla Supercharger if we are able to get an adapter to use a Supercharger). I assume it’s a male to male connector?, just unsure of the most common type. If you could shed some light, it would be extremely appreciated! Cheers in advance

      You shouldn't need any additional cables for DC chargers. However you'll need a Type 2 EV cable for untethered AC chargers. I recommend carrying this cable around with you:

      Sorry to bug you Tom, but how in the world do you use a Tesla Suoercharger to charge the Seal? We downloaded the Tesla app and signed in et cetera but the only Superchargers that come up on the app are in Campbelltown! We tried in Macquarie Centre, with their nearly dozen chargers and just couldn’t get it to work. The app wouldn’t even find the chargers on the map. Am I missing something?

      @@Audios81 It’s complicated. For non Tesla EVs, there are only certain Supercharger locations that allow you to charge, not all. And within these allowable locations, for BYD Seal, only the V2 superchargers will allow the charge because currently there’s a known incompatibility issue with V3/4 superchargers. In the Tesla app go to “Charge your other EV” under the hamburger menu (top right corner).
      Macquarie is a Tesla vehicles only location currently. For non-Tesla EVs, the closest to Sydney would be Campbelltown, Blaxland and Raymond Terrace. However all these are not compatible with the Seal as they are V3/4 superchargers.
      It’s a frustrating issue and an unnecessarily complicated one that is affecting the ownership experience. Many BYD Seal owners have already submitted feedback to BYD to provide a solution but they have not been transparent with communication. I’m afraid that this will affect sales if they do not solve this known issue soon. (Comment made April 2024)

    My Atto 3 shows on it's display the power actually going into the battery, I expect the Seal is the same. Plugged in to 7kW AC, if the air conditioning is really cranking on a hot day I can see the car drop down to around 4.5kW. You might see the number on the charger change from turning off the A/C but I wouldn't expect to see the number on the car's screen change unless you're limited by the charger.

    Great and important point regarding the fact that DC charging isn't all that relevant for cars this size (and smaller) because as you said, 95% of your charging will be done at home/over night.
    Now, when will you be able to get your hands on an EV9? That's a touring car I'm looking forward to!

    Here in Indonesia, most public fast chargers cost about 2600IDR/kwh, with 59 kwh, it costs probably around 14AUD$.

      I was commenting on the WLTP stated by BYD as 570km hence why it is overestimated as is the case with almost all EVs in my experience. I will do a proper highway range test in another video

    I'd say for a mid sedan, it'll be like running a hybrid doing about 5-6L per 100km but you can't refuel a hybrid at home unless it's a plugin

    You should do a video on LFP vs NMC and other lithium batteries, because the supposed big advantage of LFP is they can change to 100% daily (equivalent miles to 80% for NMC), but when you actually need range on a roadtrip, you're only charging to 80% (same range as ~65% for an NMC) so it actually quite worse.

      Good suggestion. I guess the 100% limit is advantageous if you need to do that much range in a single session if you started at 100% at the start of the day and you really didn’t want to charge again

      Lucky my Seal Premium has the luxury of a big 82kWh LFP - best of both worlds! Rare to find such a big battery that's also LFP. I mean sure, you could get a car with 100kWh NMC/NCA which you could then leave at 80% / 80kWh most days but then you'd have to take into consideration the added cost and weight and therefore hit to efficiency

    Thanks for sharing, it was interesting to see charging of the seal on a 125kW charger.
    I wonder what the maximum charging speed you would get if you used a charger with output more than that maximum the seal can take, for example 250kW charger, and also if it would overheat and therefore rapidgate.

      Electricity doesn't work like that. The phone charger you plug in the wall (less than 1 amp) is supplied by a 16A breaker. The 16A breaker doesn't overload that

    To compare it with Tesla fast charging you should add the five minutes it takes you to get the charging started. Mine 90d still charges from 13-80 in 45min (albeit being less kw).

      There’s no commercially available DC extension cable (for good reason) but the V4 housing has long enough cords to accomodate for all EVs

    i'm lucky enough to have a local council that's been pushing EV adoption. 3 charging sites near our place. closest one been only 10mins walk with 4 stalls @ 22kw Free and a 50kw one in a carpark which costs $3 an hour to park Free to charge as well. 8 sites total and more been built. I believe with local council support and more charging sites available people who don't have access to home charging will see EVs as a genuine option.

    I haven't found anywhere on my Seal to set the maximum charge level. Tesla, of course, allows you to set the maximum level via the car or app. I also like the ability to set the AC charge amperage in a Tesla. BYD have a fantastic example to follow in Tesla with future software updates, if they are willing.

      Those features are not important for an LFP vehicle.
      If you have the time, you're always happy to charge an LFP to over 80%. The same is not true for a ternary battery, hence the importance of being able to *stop* charging.
      If you only want to charge for 30 minutes, you can do that, no matter your battery level. If you want to charge to a specific percentage before driving off, you can just track your charging app. Perhaps allowing a push notification for X% charge would be a good addition to the app, but with an LFP battery vehicle there is no reason to set a hard limit.

      Tesla developed the tech because they started exclusively with ternary batteries where unnecessary charging to over 80% increases battery degradation. Why would that tech be necessary for a battery that doesn't suffer that increased degradation?

    Not having an EV so hoping you can answer: Why not use the 150kw charge bay? When you connected the phone app shows 150kw, why not 125kw? Lastly, when you connected and started charging, did the max out put of the bay beside you drop to 75kw meaning a far slower charge for them (if connected) or is that the same issue for Tesla super chargers? Sorry for the questions but confused. Thanks

      Good questions. Yes I could have plugged into the 125kW, hindsight is 20/20 🤓 but I truly wonder how much faster it would’ve been - I’ll have to do another test. Dunno why the app and the screen unit have different info: another mystery of EV ownership 🤷‍♂️
      - Yes had another car come the charge, theirs and my max would’ve dropped to 75kW each. It’s the same for Tesla V2 superchargers and yes/no for Tesla V3: the answer is complicated

    Manually open the flap, peeling out those 2 stupid rubber caps, fiddling around with you phone....that alone would put me off and stay with Tesla: Press the little button on the handle and plug in, job done. And always works !!!
    Good to see that not 1/2 chargers are wasted with a ChaDeMo plug. You cannot set a charge rate when DC charging, Tom. Although some (so called) premium EV have a reduced eco rate.
    Frenches Forest ist North of the Latte line....you are not safe at night? Geez what would it be in the South ??
    It is crazy that we have to operate high voltage equipment in the rain while every servo has a roof.
    Evie is the most expensive Network and most sedans of this size would use more than 6l/100km. Fuel prices outside Sydney are higher too.

      BYD are apparently trying to sort out the Supercharger issue … as it’s currently not compatible

    Hi Have a ICE sedan (Opel/Vauxhaull Insignia 2.0 diesel) and my average is 5.6 L/100km. 85% Highway (125 km/h in cruise control) and 15% city. 120/130km every day. That's why I've suggested in another video comment for a range test at least at 120km/h :)

    Just looking at apparent inefficiencies in the charging process. The test showed that 58.8kWh of energy was used to change 64% of the battery. However, 64% of the 82.5kWh battery is only 52.8kWh, so there appears to be 6kWh of wasted energy, or about $3.50 worth. Any idea what could be causing this? Have you noticed a similar thing with other charging tests you have done?
    Edit: I just rewatched the video and noticed that you did mention about a 2kw power loss between the charger and what the car is reporting. But this is less than a 2% loss, not the 10% loss in the final result.

      Hmm good pickup. I haven’t quantified previous charge sessions but it usually happens that there is a discrepancy between what the EVSE supplies vs what the car receives. Yes even Tesla 😁

      You have losses in the flexible cable and internal cabling before the supplied load even gets to the battery (heat loss)
      You then have conversion losses into the battery.
      You also have 'wasted' energy supplying any HVAC.
      And finally battery conditioning for heating the battery to begin and then cooling once the charging battery heats up too much.
      Remember this is DC charging, you don't need to/want to do this all the time.

      I agree, Australian Standards are probably why Speedos under-read. I I don't believe any significant hill was involved at time of comment also. But I'd never rely on GPS speed re: speed cameras. I value your channel keep it up.

    BYD state that is ok to charge the Seal to 100% consistently. I've not timed the charging rate beyond 80%, but haven't noticed a drop off... and I'm unsure if I trust that estimate. It'd be good to time and confirm that last 20%. The 80% courtesy rule still stands though.

      I think that's just a slightly misleading label.
      The stall is capable of 150kW (2 X 75kW) or a single charger at 125kW.
      I could be wrong with that.

      So this is an added quality Tesla car have.
      I don't like Tesla's for many other reasons which we will not delve into right now.
      So If I buy the Seal, I understand I need to install a controlled/programable charger at my house, that can charge that and that amount of KW , or programmed for time interval. very annoying but that is a negatives if you do not buy Tesla's. wished it was easier... Maybe should wait another year so the Chinese brands will improve their software a step farther... as the charge limiter is the most important aspect of the battery life preservation.

      @@LudicrousFeed Lets see I understand correctly: The BYD Car, can be programed, to charge at scheduled time, there for draw power from the home charging station, lets say for X hours I programed it for, lets say 4 hours for example, Lets say from 02:00 at night till 06:00 in the morning, and if the home charging station gives 7KW per hour, the car will get only 4 times 7 equals 28KW of charge Total. Have I got it right ?

    The 16.5kwh/100km is only for your last 50km as it says on your driver display so your 446km is more realistic than the 500km you worked out.

    I've seen a 3rd party provider sell rubber seals for your charging point opening so that no water can get inside. Do you think that that could be usefull or is it just a gimmick.

    Superchargers are really expensive. Charging between 10 and 3 at home when the inverter is humming works out at 5 Cents per kw. If you work from home or are retired or have solar at work go for it. You can keep 2 or even 3 EVs charged with a simple $9,000 6.5 kw solar array. That's 3 EVs doing 20,000 klms per annum each for 20 years. A saving of just over $200,000 when comparing the petrol burned in Subaru Forester or similar. Solar is 4 times more cost beneficial when used to replace gasoline instead of grid electricity.

I just can't help myself pointing out the cost savings of solar energy especially in relation to the usual 10 year life of a car. I feel a $30k saving over 10 years solar powering a Model Y vs putting petrol in a Subaru Forester is such an important point to get across. I follow all of the EV RUclipsrs and they don't really hammer home just how much can be saved . Anyway Tom how did you get an off peak rate of 10 cents. My latest bill shows 33 cents peak and 25 cents off peak.

    You do know the app makes it easy as well as all you have to do is plug the car in then hop in the car to complete the charge details. I am guilty of doing what you did stay by the charger instead of getting in the car especially if pouring with rain. Us humans are a strange bunch, I see so many people point the keyfob at the car to lock/unlock while just pushing the button in any direction will do the same lock/unlock lol

    I received my BYD Seal 10 days ago but I'm having problems when I try to charge on fast chargers. Charging starts, then after 2 minutes the message "charging complete" appears and charging stops even though the car is absolutely not fully charged. Has anyone encountered this problem?

      I encountered the problem with 150 kW and 300 kW chargers (no matter the network). However, I was able to charge twice on that kind of chargers after a lot of trials… So maybe I’m doing something wrong when charging

      Barely anything - I’ve not seen even 1% drop over a few nights when I’ve not driven. There’s probably the occasional BMS diagnostic keeping things safe but otherwise the car is turned off and there are no power hungry processes draining it

    What's the point in the Seal saying the max charging speed of 150kw when it never even gets close. Most people testing only get around 120. I would be happy if it gets close to maybe 140kw and this slow charging speed will definitely be a negative when considering the BYD Seal - Might aswell wait for the Xiaomi SU7 much quicker charging speed and better range and faster. Thanks for your review though gives people a view of what charging speeds you actually get rather than trusting the manufacturer's quoted speeds.

      I can honestly say I would seriously consider the BYD Seal if the charging speed actually gets close to the quoted max charging speed. If BYD can do something with the charging speed with OTA update then I would reconsider - you're reviews are really good to help people actually see what living with the vehicle would be like. It's a real shame really as the car really appeals. Think the audible lane departure and the speed limit prompts would drive me insane too. @@LudicrousFeed

    It is a (crappy) 250A charger even if it is advertised as 125kW. It can charge cars at about 90-110kW (most cars at 90-100). That is way below the capability of the Seal.

      @@grandtourerpt Sure I could repeat to verify but I just read in this month’s NRMA open road (Jan/Feb 2024) that only 2% of EV chargers in Australia are 350kW so in reality you’d be unlikely to encounter anything faster than I demonstrated in this video

      Sorry, I’m confused by your comment … I normally use Normal or Sport mode day to day. I use Eco if I go for a long drive

      @@TheBeastNL Ok I see what you’re saying now. I don’t pay too much attention to the WLTP range, I only use it as a rough guide. Real world range and efficiency is more important and that can vary between drivers and conditions.

    Come April the first, basically an unfunny April fools joke, here in NZ road trips will be more expensive and a hybrid as we will be charged the same road user charges as a diesel or $76 per 1000km plus a $12 admin fee! With our public fast chargers priced between 69 cents to 85 cents per kwh. I luckily am fortunate to have an EV plan with my electricity retailer in that I pay my home rates at the ChargeNet chargers so as much as 34 cents per kwh between 7am and 9pm and as little as 15 cents per kwh 9pm till 7am. Bad luck for anyone else though!

      Yes seems to be a worldwide phenomenon that public EV charging costs are increasing. Difficult for these providers to make money selling only electricity. Time for ground up EV stations to sell food, drinks etc to help subsidise costs?

      @LudicrousFeed Just be thankful so far most of Australia do not charge EV that $76 per 1000km, I believe at least one state charges a more EV friendly price of $25 per 1000km but $76 plus that ridiculous $12 admin fee will for sure hurt long distance travel when an economical hybrid pays nothing, especially if no home charging is available. There was already a test done in your country where two BMW one EV and one petrol and the petrol car ended up costing less than the EV! And that's with no RUC. Sad day for EV come April here in NZ!

      ​@@gregb1599 Victoria's EV road use tax was deemed unconstitutional and has been removed. We don't have an EV road use tax anywhere at the moment.

      @hargeaux Well, enjoy well it lasts, I have had it free since 2016. I knew the time was coming, but I did expect a similar price to what Victoria had, which I believe was around that 25 cents per km. I can see many either not getting an EV or giving up using EV at least for intercity travel as it's still much slower and now more expensive than hybrid. I will still be much better off like most I can charge at home, and I hate travelling long distances in any type of car when domestic flying is so much easier.

    Chicago Tesla EV motorists stranded throughout the city unable to re charge EV top up due to cold winter conditions.! Not happy looking at new report.

    WHAT your not sealing the chargeport from the rain just in case it electrifies the car and you inside it? ;) #sarcasm# hehe. As we know WLTP isn't anywhere near accurate, Gav from Ecotricity NZ has a great meaning for what WLTP really means unfortunately I can't remember it right now but it's similar to NEDC(Not Even Damn Close), what we need is EPA as that is the closest testing regime to real world there is right now in the world but unless this car gets sold in the US/Canada we won't see that rating. Did you pre-condition your battery prior to arriving?

    If you were picking up fuel in a full driveway service centre, you would be gone within 5 minutes. Just saying, populating EV chargers is a good thing, but why don’t some roadside providers start including chargers in their forecourts? A roof canopy and amenities. That happens in other places, so why not here? Wonder why?
    Could the drop in the charge rate be due to rapidgating as the battery pack heats up? Good thing no one else was charging at that location either, as that may have slowed things up a bit as well.
    Road trips will rely to a greater degree on DC fast chargers along the way. It is not viable any other way unless you can call in somewhere that has cheaper AC charger available. But that would be very slow at 11kW charge rate (max.), and most likely unworkable on a long range drive. So you are stuck with higher charge costs unfortunately. Public charging in Oz does not seem to be working out very well, does it?

      We have a long way to go to lift the standards of public DC charging in Australia - I feel like a second class citizen every time I have to use an outdoor unsheltered charger.

      The charge rate drops as the state of charge increases to protect the battery. All modern EVs do this

      @@LudicrousFeed Agreed. No one should feel second class when it comes to this service provision. You pay a significant extra amount for the privilege of driving an EV, and you get this type of forecourt treatment. They probably can’t provide shelters over the chargers that you were at for building DA reasons. Not a fact, just my opinion. Security lights at night are fine, but it’s the tip of the iceberg where convenience and service are concerned. Will get better over time, I am sure.
      The last point on modern EV charging is telling. Real charging rates would be more suitable for wood-be buyers to gauge instead of simple calculations on a maximal charge delivery, which never seems to happen. It’s all theory I know, and can’t be taken literally in every instance. So that makes your real world test more interesting (thank you for doing that). I have seen so many of these restrictions occur elsewhere that I did not expect any other result really, but at least you managed to get a reasonable rate for a while, even if it was only to an 80% charge. Fermi’s law.

      @@newbris Agreed. But hardly a level playing field is it. What’s more, you have the ignominy of waiting whilst your vehicle is charging. Not the best way of spending your time. Just listen to us, discussing this retrograde step as of it where an advantage. It’s simply one step forward and two steps back. Any drawback on ICE is retrograde IMO, and you can’t dress this up as a flesh wound that really didn’t hurt. At least I can’t. Cheers.

      @@GolLeeMe it doesn’t need to be a level playing on tax. That’s the point. Personally we would spend almost the whole year not waiting at all because it will already be charged in the morning using cheap home electric rate. So no need to go to gas station like gas car or public charger except for occasional very long road trip. 98% of the year will be easier than gas car for us. Ymmv.

    And this is exactly why EVs are inaccessible to the majority of the population. Anyone living in an apartment or renting just won't have at-home garage with a charger installed

      I'll be honest and say that without home charging or ready access to off street charging, you've unfortunately lost the greatest practical benefit to EV ownership

      10A charger is sufficient for charging most city/suburban vehicles over night.
      Say a car drove around at 20kWh/100km (inefficient, in the video above Tom was driving at 16ish) if the car drove 100km per day (over double the average Australian) a 10A charger would take less than 9 hours to fill up.
      Every EV with access to a 10A charger is still very suitable for a daily driver.

      You only lose the ability to charge at home, this puts you the same as an ICE car. I know the refill takes a little longer, still a much cleaner and cost effective way of transportation

    This is a big turn off. Hanging around somewhere very unappealing while you charge your vehicle. The way the EV fans justify this is ‘interesting’. Couldn’t think of anything worse. I really don’t enjoy even going to the servo to fill up. It’s a necessity, not a desired activity. I don’t eat fast food and I try to avoid servo coffee too.

      I actually agree. I for one will no longer be excusing EV chargers that don't have adequate amenities. We really need to do better if we are to be serious with the transition to electric. Don't worry, we only eat KFC if there's no other option! (or trying it to honour the Christmas tradition in Japan 😅)

      Completely agree. I think you misunderstood Tom's point.
      For mine, the importance of DC chargers is mainly for highways and big shopping mall type areas. Either, in a location where you need to charge as fast as possible (travelling/touring)or at a location where you were going to spend a fair amount of time anyway.

      depends on the car and what fast chargers you use, but it can be around the same when you use fast chargers. home charging is a lot cheaper though.

      I charge at home Peter from 100 percent renewable energy from my home solar, so there are zero costs to change my Ev, can't get any cheaper than that.
