  • Upgrade the factory 6-speaker set to Rockford Fosgate R-165-S speakers front and back. This will add tweeters to the rear finally. Also doing sound deadening mats in the door panels. As well as getting rid of the rivets mounting the speakers and installing Riv-nuts to use proper mounting hardware!

    only suggestion i could make after doing this exact install with my jetta was that after using hot glue for the tweeters, they lasted the winter but fell off in the summer when it got hot in my area. would recommend using some type of plastic-weld like jbweld or similar that is less susceptible to extreme temperatures. otherwise killer install and awesome video!

    How well have the tweeters held up with the hot glue? When I was replacing mine, I was concerned with them rattling free. So I ended up modeling new tweeter brackets and had one of my friends 3D print them. My tweeters were from Focal and conveniently had a thread on the back where I could screw mount to the bracket and then plastic weld the bracket to the original mounting posts

    My jetta (2017 SE) doesn't have tweeters in the A Pillar. Is there a way I can add them in assuming I buy new A pillars with the speaker cutouts? Also, will these speakers work with the factory infotainment center from Volkswagen? Thank you!

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Год назад +1

      That would be correct. Buy used A-pillars with tweeters on them and run your wiring up to the speaker if you don't already have a random unused plug at that location (being for cars WITH tweeters there). If you do have plugs there you can always test for current with radio on/off to confirm they are in fact for tweeters. If you don't have plugs there, then you'd have to run your wiring from the door speaker, through the door/ doorjam harness, up to the pillar. More work but not difficult. Just time consuming.
      Yes but they will work with the stock infotainement but they may not sound as good, given that the stock head unit has lower output than aftermarket head units. But the sensitivity is high enough on these speakers that they should still outperform the originals given the same current. You can always install the speakers and use them for a couple weeks to get used to them/ they break-in, and THEN make a desicion as to IF you think the benefit of an upgraded headunit outways the cost.

    in the back you add tweeter ?? the cross over is in the speaker? but in the front you replace tweeter does this mean the cas have cross over somewhere ?

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Год назад

      That is possible. OR what I think= no actual crossover, but instead uses integral resistors at the tweeters (just like these Rockford Fosgate tweeters do) to keep the low frequencies from reaching the tweeter drivers.
      I am sure the Fender system has a similar layout but the amplifier correctly splits the signal among the speakers. But in this base audio system, I assume it is just integral resistors.

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Год назад +1

      You sure can but you’d have to be comfortable with custom audio work. Adding 6x9s to the rear deck shouldn’t be bad. BUT you’d definitely want to add an amplifier for that’s many speakers. This head unit is matched perfect for the rockford speakers I picked, but adding 6x9s would mean the rear’s output would be split in half to get the signal out to 4 locations.
      A 4 channel amp would fix that issue 😃 ( 2 channels for the fronts, the other 2 channels just wire two sets of line outputs- one to the rear doors, the other to the rear deck). You’ll likely also have to fade the audio to the rear just a little for the whole car sound to feel balanced. Then you should be golden!!

    What’s the sound quality? Bass and highs good? I’ve only heard mixed reviews about this model. Looking for a reason to change my mind. I’m in the market of replacing factory speakers in my Audi.

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Год назад

      So, WITH the Boss headunit I have, they sound night and day better than the stock base speakers. Much clearer and all volumes. BUT for the best sound quality you can’t beat adding an external amp to it. Nothing big would be needed really- a 40w x 4 RMS amp would be enough (since that’s the RMS rating of these speakers anyway).
      But it also depends on what you want out of them. If you want the BEST soundQ then you’d want to consider Focal, Infinity Kappas or Memphis Audio and such with a good amp and signal processor. But I think that for the money these speakers cost, you can’t beat their soundQ. Excellent value!

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  10 месяцев назад

      So the rears on the non-Fender system don’t have a dedicated tweeter signal. SO i just hooked it up to the additional outputs of the woofer. The Tweeters have an in-line capacitor to act as a filter so don’t worry about blowing them out.
