Thank you Mr572, you are right, just put a rag there to catch any oil that drips. I put it there because it’s out of site. I don’t mind a little drip when changing out oil filter just preferred not to see it but have easy access and increase oil capacity! Thx for watching our channel! 😎👍
Just curious, but why do you run the cooler before the filter? I have always been taught that the hot oil goes to the filter first, because the hot oil flows through the filter better, and thus the filter works better and has less impact on oil flow. Also, if your engine should have a problem, the metal stuff gets to the filter before the cooler which means that you can find it easier when you take the filter apart. It also saves your cooler if you spin a bearing or the like. I looked at what Ferrari does and as an example of the 458 and 812, the cooler sits after the filter.
Doing a similar job on a 69 chevelle do you think it's ok to mount the oil filter horizontal as it works best for me this way. The oil filter says it has a check valve built in
Awesome not exactly sure if totally horizontal will be ok but I would think so the oil pressure should be enough to keep the filter full just keep an eye on your oil pressure gauge. Mine is somewhat horizontal and will will be finally starting and driving this beast this month so stay tuned for that episode hopefully bye thanksgiving or shortly after! Thx for watching good luck with your 69 what motor is in it?
@@rogerbelcher2981 a lot of vehicles have the filter on the side of the engine. Some even have the filters inverted. The oil is under pressure. It doesn’t care about gravity until you unscrew it and oil runs all over the place.
Got a part number for the 90 degree fittings and stainless steel lines? Also what size cooler are you running? Will this work on a 454 gen 5? Thanks for the help
Hi Omar, 😎 Let me look up those part numbers and I will ad links to the description. Thx for watching! Should All be same for Gen 5. Got Earls Oil Filter Bypass Adapter & Earls Billet Remote Oil Filter Mount at Summit Racing! They are very Helpful when you call them to confirm fitment for your Gen 5. Bought TTR 90 degree 10AN Fittings on Amazon. Will also look for and post link for those as well. Omar Thx for Watching! 😎👍. Please share our Channel with Family & Friends Hope you find this Helpful!!!
It’s been so long ago that if it’s not in description I don’t have that info most my AN Fittings where 10AN and Oil Cooler was an Earl’s. Thx for watching l 😎
Looks good. Nice work. Can't let that engine get too warm. And there's a check valve somewhere in the oil pressure plumbing (or engine filter mount area) that bypasses the cooler/filter loop in the event of an extreme pressure drop, correct? Great video!
Hi Roger, thanks again for you watching Old Guyz Garage and Subscribing! So I talked to our engine builder regarding oil pressure and if it would reduce the engine oil pressure at all if any. He indicated that everything should be fine. He indicated One if the first places the oil pump pressurizes is the oil filter the lines I ran are 10 AN so there should not be any significant drop in oil pressure which was a concern of mine too. Right now I do not have a cut off valve which senses a reduction in oil pressure and stops the flow. Great Question! Do you know where I can purchase something like that? 😊👍
But... where's the temp gauge? Most of us, just having a larger sump is all that's needed - reduce cycle rate [how many times per hour does one quart make a full trip], and less heat is addded for a fixed timeframe. I use a 6 quart pan and modified with a 1/2" npt bung for a temp probe. Put in a electic gauge to monitor... I'm never over 220, and a long cruise seems to settle 190ish in summer. Motor is 10:1, aluminum heads, and on the low side of what can be built at just under 420hp so... not a pro-touring level build. I would love to have 650hp, but it will be small block because... headers.
Thx for watching Mr Showtime! It’s an Earls Plumbing 10AN 25 Row, Summit Racing sells them part number is 425ERL dimensions are about 7.5 inches high about 13 inches long. Hope that helps! 😎👍
Looks like when you remove the filter, oil will run down the inner fender. I think you could have beat that.

I also have the earls kit on my 489 stroker , the people at Holly told me every 45 is like adding 8 ft of hose. What are your thoughts?
Not sure on that, but my system works fine and I have about 53psi of oil pressure I have 10 AN lines which are pretty big. Thx for watching! 😎👍

Can I get the parts list for the '67 Chevelle oil cooler. I have a '66 Chevelle and I want to install something similar to what you did. Thanks.

@@OldGuyzGarage much appreciated
You should use a wix filter not that Fram
Thx
It’s gonna suck when your wheel throws rocks into your oil cooler. 😫
Not really there’s a fan going on the back side that’s not on yet that covers most of cooler, not to mention rocks will go backward not forward
What oil do you use in your 496?
Lucas Oil SAE 30 Break in Oil with High Zinc
