    Hi everyone, thank you for joining me in this upper body yin yoga class. This is a 40 minute yin yoga sequence to help you stretch and release tension from your neck, shoulders, mid back, upper back and chest. I recommend having two blocks for this class. You can expect to do poses like broken wing, sphinx, supported butterfly and bowtie. This class is suitable for all experience levels.
    What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more flexibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints.
    There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
    1. Find your edge
    2. Be still
    3. Hold the pose
    Find your edge means respecting your body's limits and not pushing too far and risking injury. Pull back a little bit and as you hold the pose you will be able to go deeper into it without pushing too far or hurting yourself.
    Being still means that once you are in the pose it is important to completely relax your muscles so the benefits can get into the connective tissues and joints. Try not to fidget or move or distract yourself, this is a meditative practice. Breathe deeply in and out through the nose.
    Holding the pose means that in Yin Yoga a pose can be held for 1-10 minutes depending on the pose performed and on the comfort level of the student.

    I like that this class was relatively silent. So many teachers talk during yin class -- it's hard to relax. This was nice because I could just concentrate on the pose.

    So grateful for this class! I’ve been trying to unfreeze my shoulder/arm for 4 months. I found this class a few weeks ago, have done the class about 10 times and always experience relief. I’m amazed how much it helps. Thank you ♥️

    This sequence is really helping me. I have done it several times in the last few weeks, and my upper back is feeling loose and pain free! Great, since I can't go to the chiropractor right now (and this is better anyway). Bow tie and puppy pose are quickly becoming favorites. Thank you!

    This was the best upper back yoga I've ever done. I've been having a lot of back/shoulder/chest pain (sitting at a desk all day will do that to you), but this practice was amazing. I"m going to share with people I know who do yoga, and I am going to add it to my regular routine. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Thank you so much for this video! I often suffer from neck shoulder upperback (trapezius) pain. The side cactus pose was really intense for me.

    Thank you, Kassandra! This class is my go-to for “painter’s neck”. If it’s too much pressure on your knees, add a block under your toes, can’t believe how much deeper I could go into my shoulders taking the pressure off my knees.

    Thank you for this this morning! It was exactly why I needed after waking up feeling like I was punched in the back between my shoulder blades. I still feel like I may need an adjustment but this certainly helped release some on the initial pain. Thank you! And I love all your Yin yoga videos. ❤️

    I've had chronic pain around C7 for 4 years, and this yin practice is going to be my new morning routine to start releasing some of that pain (I hope!) after doing it just once I feel sooooooo good!

    OMG that was amazing ... ! During Savasana I felt so light in the upper back. I do Crossfit twice a week and I love it but my back and my shoulders are working very hard so I need to relax them, plus I am very stressed so it’s just the perfect practice for me.     Thanks Kassandra! My shoulders feel so much better. I experienced having my left breast removed 23 years ago, and that surgery is just now showing up in my shoulder in an obviously unhappy way. This practice was so beneficial and just the right amount of time. Namaste'

    Congratulations on your dedication to teaching and promoting Yin Yoga. I am a beginner and I like many of your videos. Personally fish poses with a block I find not very comfortable and I use a Bolster. The princess fish pose :)
