Couldnt have done it if this tutorial wasn't as good as it is, so clear and helpful, loved it. Thank you sm x

    Very nice pacing, no "uhhh" "umm" "and..........................". Explained everything simply and effectively with critical information. You are the one I have been looking for all this time.

    • @ChamferZone
      @ChamferZone  8 лет назад

      +DDman465 Thank you! That is awesome to read! Yes that was really something I wanted to avoid like the plague. I made the grenade tutorial here in the middle of creating the AKM tutorial which I released last week. The reason for that was that I wanted to have a free tutorial out before I release the "big" one that I charge for. So long story short.. it was a learning process to not say uhhs and umms and having already completed several chapters of the AKM at that point I was able to record that here without saying it due to practice. However.. going back then to the first recordings of the AKM tutorial I noticed that I have these uhhhs in there all over the place which I couldn't stand at all. So I decided to delete all speech audio on the modeling chapters and talk all over it again. Certainly was worth it. There may still be a few uhhs in the unwrapping chapter of the AKM but it was not so bad that it would have been worth to re-record the whole audio on it :) Next tutorial is hopefully completly free of it haha. Thanks DDman !

    • @stompeee
      @stompeee 8 лет назад +1

      +Chamfer Zone Oh there's nothing wrong with a few uhhs and umms. Sometimes it's just ridiculous, however. What could be explained in the first 5 minutes of your video takes an hour for most of the other users/videos on youtube. Your vocal volume is great too. I was very surprised and relieved at the quality you provide, and that makes me put confidence in your teaching ability. So thank YOU for setting this up for us. Already looking at your premium tutorials.

    Ok hey guys, for those of you that follow these tutorials with Maya. I did not manage to bake out normal map and had problems as you know you can't name multiple objects with the same name. As I studied modeling for film I was not familiar with normal mapping. It's easy to work around this small problem but big headache if you don't know how to solve it. All you need to do is to combine all the element into 1 per parts and it works like a charm. So for instance you take the body of the grenade and the letters and combine them. This way it's only 1 object and can have the same name as the low poly version. Hope this helps.

    Great lesson even now btw, thank you! I am trying to follow it using Blender and it went pretty fine till the Hi Poly phase. At this point i realised the difference between the Turbosmooth and Subdivisin modifiers. Seems that Turbosmooth does not need the good topology to work properly, and for the Blender Subdiv modifier i had to step back and made new Fuse head with the topology good enough for the loopcuts.

    I think a faster alternative to the flow connect tool is the swift loop tool. While in the tool, holding down shift and hovering over the edge ring where you want the loop gives the same effect. At least from what I've noticed it's essentially the same but slightly faster.

  • @WraithDesignz
    @WraithDesignz 3 года назад +1

    Great stuff! I found that using a program like RizomUV helps a ton when laying out UV maps. It's faster, uses AI to best calculate the use of UV space, and you can even make adjustments based on many things such as groups, islands, angle, and much more. To me, it is a must have in all my workflows. :)

That said, I know that the audio is not the best.. when I recorded this tutorial here I didn't own a good microphone yet. Future tutorials will all be recorded with my new Blue Yeti microphone which will dramatically improve the quality.

    This is one of the best updated tutorial I have seen for 3ds Max. But is it possible if you make a beginners version of this possibly making a model of a handgun?. Since some rookies like me missed a lot of shortcuts commands you used.

      +Paddy 4444 Hi Paddy, sorry sometimes some comments slip through the radar. It may not be a handgun but my AKM tutorial is now out and comes with a beginners chapter in 3DS Max. Cheers! :)

    You should show how to model it in blender I’m using blender and I’m following this tutorial

    Nice tutorial, I'm able to follow along pretty well, thanks!
    One thing though, it'd be more helpful for complete beginners if you could describe what hotkeys etc. to use in order to perform certain functions. Someone who hasn't used 3ds Max before wouldn't know most of those to start.

    So im a Maya type of modeler and I have never modeled inside of 3DsMax before but my question is if there are people out there that subdivision model in 3DsMax?

    Tried my best, but can't do this one with Maya instead of Max. Too much of the modelling seems contrary to what I've learned about avoiding ngons. Also the max workflow is trickier by the looks. Great tutorial all the same. Thanks for sharing all the source files. :)

    will it be acceptable, if there is distortion in checker as u did the cyliinderical mapping on the apple shape but it's still showing the distortion in the checker, as i followed the same process, isn't this will create the problem in texturing I mean it will lead to distortion in the texture

    Great as usual! Thank you! However, I have one question. In high poly models you have a lot of N-gons, which is considered to be no good. What's the right way to do with it?

    • @ChamferZone
      @ChamferZone  7 лет назад

      Hey Baxter, thanks for your comment! I think though that you confuse low poly with high poly. There is not a single ngon in the highpoly due to turbosmooth which quadifies everything. As for the lowpoly, yes there are ngons in there. Have a look at this topic and video I made regarding that :) forum.chamferzone.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9

    hi, there are still some distortions on grenade body 1:08:54 - look at between extruded body faces, i would like to know, can it cause serious problems in texturing?

    • @ChamferZone
      @ChamferZone  7 лет назад

      Hello Orin, really sorry about the late reply. Slight distortions are always there when you unwrap. It's nearly impossible to not have it. As long as it won't result in a super ugly noticeable thing later on the texture it's no problem. Often you have to unwrap the UV shells as one big piece and that is only working if you take some minor stretching into account. It certainly won't mess up your texture later on. That is why it's good to apply a checker pattern texture while we unwrap because it sort of gives you a preview of how the stretching looks like.

    Impressive workflow. As a furniture designer doing everything from soft upholstery to hardwood dining tables is 3ds Max a good program to invest in and learn? I notice some of the best images in my field are a combo of 3ds max, Marvelous designer and maybe even Zbrush. It feels overwhelming. Where should I focus my energy first? I'm having a hard time modeling a simple sofa. :). Subscribed.

    Hi, I dont understand some things about texturing and low poly models. You export low poly and high poly mesh without baking normal map, Substance painter bake automaticly normal map using high poly mesh? I hope You answer my question

    Hi! Is there any particular reason why you always use slice plane before placing symmetry modifier? As far as I know, there is no difference, so I just wanted to know if I miss something.
