+hollow_ mind Thanks for pointing it out! Yes in retrospective definitely something I should have mentioned.
danke papa
love you too man
thanks!!
@@ChamferZone you can pin the comment so that it doesn't disappear :)
I finished the whole thing. Modeling and texturing. Learned a lot. Thank you.
+gerbilho Happy to read that. Thank you too!
Just followed this tutorial, had so many issues that this guy didnt have with planar align choosing a 45 degree angle rather than x y or z..i spent about 7 hours welding vertex but finally its done. Couldnt have done it if this tutorial wasn't as good as it is, so clear and helpful, loved it. Thank you sm x
It's so refreshing to watch a tutorial where the sculptor doesn't say " now go here..." and we have no idea what they just clicked. Thank you, Tim!
Game Assets auf AAA Niveau. Man findet selten so gute Tutorials auf RUclips
Gute Arbeit Chef
+Lorenz Christoffers Danke Lorenz. Mehr tutorials dieses Jahr! :)
I finished one M4A1-S yesterday but, with some hard to understand tutorials. Now, I found you, who just has what I/we actually need. I'll start up working on this Grenade now. Thanks!
Hello ComboKing, glad if it helps and is easy to understand! Hope it goes well with the grenade for you.
ChamferZone I'm done with Grenade modelling, only the thing remaining is texturing and rendering. Thanks!
Very nice pacing, no "uhhh" "umm" "and..........................". Explained everything simply and effectively with critical information. You are the one I have been looking for all this time.
+DDman465 Thank you! That is awesome to read! Yes that was really something I wanted to avoid like the plague. I made the grenade tutorial here in the middle of creating the AKM tutorial which I released last week. The reason for that was that I wanted to have a free tutorial out before I release the "big" one that I charge for. So long story short.. it was a learning process to not say uhhs and umms and having already completed several chapters of the AKM at that point I was able to record that here without saying it due to practice. However.. going back then to the first recordings of the AKM tutorial I noticed that I have these uhhhs in there all over the place which I couldn't stand at all. So I decided to delete all speech audio on the modeling chapters and talk all over it again. Certainly was worth it. There may still be a few uhhs in the unwrapping chapter of the AKM but it was not so bad that it would have been worth to re-record the whole audio on it :) Next tutorial is hopefully completly free of it haha. Thanks DDman !
+Chamfer Zone Oh there's nothing wrong with a few uhhs and umms. Sometimes it's just ridiculous, however. What could be explained in the first 5 minutes of your video takes an hour for most of the other users/videos on youtube. Your vocal volume is great too. I was very surprised and relieved at the quality you provide, and that makes me put confidence in your teaching ability. So thank YOU for setting this up for us. Already looking at your premium tutorials.
+DDman465 Thanks again for your feedback, very encouraging to read! I'll make sure to keep that up, next time with a better microphone even :-)
It took me like 8 hours to get through creating the model LEL. My first time using 3D max though. I am sure if i were to go through again I could do it in less than half the time now :D. Thanks for the great tutorial though!!!!!!!
so ffin glad I can learn from a pro who actually worked in the industry
Fantastic tutorial. I learned a lot, thanks to you. Already looking forward to buy your next tutorial!
+Piotr Stańczyk Thank you Piotr! I am working on the next tutorial every spare minute I got and I am also thrilled to have it released. It's going to be the most indepth tutorial I ever created and it's in the final polishing phase: release very soon! Cheers Tim!
I wish I could watch some of your other tutorials but they cost money ;(
Hi Tim, now is January 2022 and I just wanna say thank u so much for sharing the tutorials, because I learned so much from them.
Thanks for the tutorial. I wasnt very comfortable in 3dsmax, but after this I really learned a lot and feel really comfortable using 3dsmax now :) Thank you!
Finally a tutorial I'm truly motivated to follow through till the very end, lots of nice tips for a beginner such as myself
This is just amazing, Tim.
+Sideburn Jim Danke jimbo ! :D
Man love your explanation just starting out what i would request is if u can cast your keys as well would help with the short cuts
Great tutorial, a very detailed and precise explained. I'm very pleased that I can now watch using steam.
Much love from Serbia! :)
+braaanaaa Thank you, I appreciate your feedback and greetings back from Toronto! :)
I could barely follow the modeilng part... and then you got to the unwrapping bit... and my brain turned to mush. :P
This is amazing you and you are absolutely incredibly talented! :)
haha thanks man, yeah I know it's a lot of things to wrap the head around with all that. But it's worth to pull through it. It will become more clear when you ran through it once.
ChamferZone : One can only hope. Anyway, it's a share joy to watch you work. Almost like watching Bob Ross painting :)
Ok hey guys, for those of you that follow these tutorials with Maya. I did not manage to bake out normal map and had problems as you know you can't name multiple objects with the same name. As I studied modeling for film I was not familiar with normal mapping. It's easy to work around this small problem but big headache if you don't know how to solve it. All you need to do is to combine all the element into 1 per parts and it works like a charm. So for instance you take the body of the grenade and the letters and combine them. This way it's only 1 object and can have the same name as the low poly version. Hope this helps.
This is great Tim! Thanks for Sharing.
Really great! Thank a lot for your channel :)
Your ability and confidence to collapse eveything and go on with your work is just from another level
Thanks for the tutorial, just what I needed.
+Spencer Clough Thanks Spencer, glad it helped! :)
This is like Rainbow Six material, the weapons you create look ultra realistic. Couldn't imagine how realistic you could make environments
Thanks Easton, yes the workflow is pretty much common nowadays and R6:Siege uses the same software that I use in my tutorials :) Btw. love that game, all I play since it came out.
ChamferZone Same here! Sometimes I really like to just walk around and look at textures and think of how they're made, offline of course lol
I've been struggling with my workflow recently. I just fumble along and nothing ever looks brilliant because of it. This tutorial gives an amazing insight to what a professional workflow is, I can't wait to see my work improve as a result of this tutorial. Keep making them!
+Tom Mertens Thank you Tom! I am glad you like it. I'll definitely keep it up :)
i just wanna say thank you for everything you did, really appreciate someone so devoted to quality and details ;)
Check out his new Mech tutorial. It's super cool.
Thanks for watching it Amed, glad it helps people!
thank you for that, didn't do it yet, but learned a lot seeing the video.
sir, ijuststarted learning 3ds max. I started to watch your tutorials for learning. Its so easy and aesthetic. Your skills are on a different level too.You are a great teacher. I am thankfull for your efforts.Best wishes from my side.
Still learning the art of lowpolying and baking the highpoly onto it.
Very very good, congratulations.
Cant believe its been 7 years, Tim
I will definitely support your efforts for creating such a good tutorials without seeking too much money. I would support asap maybe next week. Thanks again for sharing such a wonderful tutorial. I will share my version of grenade once I complete tutorial.
Hello Narendra, I appreciate it very much! Let me know how it goes and in case of questions feel free to sign up at forum.chamferzone.com :)
Great lesson even now btw, thank you! I am trying to follow it using Blender and it went pretty fine till the Hi Poly phase. At this point i realised the difference between the Turbosmooth and Subdivisin modifiers. Seems that Turbosmooth does not need the good topology to work properly, and for the Blender Subdiv modifier i had to step back and made new Fuse head with the topology good enough for the loopcuts.
Hi, thank you for this video. The best tuto I've seen so far. When will be the next?? Thx dudde :D
+Mario Ans Thanks mate! As of last week my newest tutorial is out :) You can watch the chapter trailer of it here on my youtube channel. Cheers!
Very well explained tutorial. Thanks for your time to do it. Fun project!
Hello Jose, glad you like it and more tutorials coming!
1:07:40 "Lets see if we forgot anything here. And in fact we did or I did actually to be fair" :D
really helpfully!!thanks !! so good, and every detail for people who just learn 3dmax!!you doing great stuff!
Hi Theo! Glad to hear it! Yes I think the grenade made for an excellent object for a short and free tutorial. I have a hard time coming up with ideas for a similar (short) tutorial.
You probably already know this but, this is excellent I am so happy I am not a beginner though otherwise I would of had a hard time following along:) Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing.
Hey Gary, awesome to read and much appreciated! New tutorial almost done and also a free part for RUclips about making portfolio ready renders. Can't wait to release it finally.
Danke Tim. Sehr freundlich von dir :)
+hallugenetic wie klein die welt doch ist :D !

Absolutely brilliant tutorial! Perfect pace, everything beautifully explained, just perfect. Thanks a lot Tim!
hi very nice tutorial (well still in progress) i would like to ask for future tutorials to consider on screen keystrokes it would be very helpfull
Nice Honest teacher far far batter then Udemy guys
thanks for the in depth video Tim!
Thank you for this tutorial :D Very helpful
+Maarten Mtr Glad you liked it Maarten! Thanks!
Definitely subbed. Well done. You explain every process in detail. Hard to find on youtube. Especially for Max :)
Hello PhenixSys, thank you very much. I am glad to read that. I know I don't have a lot of vids out yet but more to come for sure :) Thanks for subbing.
As they say, every little helps :)
Excellent Modeling WOW
Ctrl + Backspace will dissolve the edge for the first Bevel in case anybody is wondering
Amazing tutorial, thanks!
Woohoo i made it ))) but in Blender, sorry. Thank you for the lessons!
Absolutely awesome man soo keen for more videos mate keep it up
+xCONDOGZz Thank you ! :) Will do mate.
you insanly talented i wanna buy you tutorials just because you deserve it but then again im broke AF so......
Hi Roy, just see your message here. Haha thanks man, and yeah... times are hard sometimes. Been there as well before I started my video game career. I'm sure it'll get better for you too. Either way thanks for watching my tuts! Glad you enjoy them!
love your work bro keep it up
i am trying to follow the tutorial but whenever i bevel the faces move down instead of out, how can i make them behave like at 4.40
You probably left the edge constraint on
Alt-Shift + E is the hotkey to Connect Vertices.
Nice job!!
Fantastic!!! ❤
your base mesh solve may all problems thanks
thank you so much i like your tutorials
how are you deciding where to use quads and where to use tris?
Bit of help please, 59:10 to 59:20 - just so I understand this, you can break segments away from the object when unwrapping without having to re-stitch it? Getting confused on why you stitch some parts back, but not this part?
creo que eres un genio tu video me a servido muchisimo gracias por compartir tus conocimientos salidos
its really cool.
UVW unwrapping works completly diffrent in my case, when he gets straight line of UV's, what i'm getting looks like funky abstract art
Hello MsMrFreaky.. hmmm well you can watch my UV unwrapping special here on youtube. Maybe it helps!
Thanks, will check it soon!
Love it!
Thanks a lot!
Hello Ken, thank you very much for watching. Glad you like it!
good Job Man
sieht schon mal gut aus ;) mach weiter so
+DukeDark Danke, werd ich machen!
I think a faster alternative to the flow connect tool is the swift loop tool. While in the tool, holding down shift and hovering over the edge ring where you want the loop gives the same effect. At least from what I've noticed it's essentially the same but slightly faster.
Great stuff! I found that using a program like RizomUV helps a ton when laying out UV maps. It's faster, uses AI to best calculate the use of UV space, and you can even make adjustments based on many things such as groups, islands, angle, and much more. To me, it is a must have in all my workflows. :)
Please don't take it the wrong way. I'm actually very interested in seeing further tutorials from you. I would first like to know if all your videos are at this low volume. I'm at my parent's for the weekend and only have my 2015 MacBook Pro 15" and it's very difficult, almost impossible to hear everything clearly. I had to use headphones but I would prefer not to. Sincerely
+Melissa Bogani Hi Melissa, thanks for your feedback! You could try to download the tutorial from gumroad and watch it on your media player which might result in an overall louder audio hopefully. That said, I know that the audio is not the best.. when I recorded this tutorial here I didn't own a good microphone yet. Future tutorials will all be recorded with my new Blue Yeti microphone which will dramatically improve the quality.
Very nice tutorial, very comprehensive. Although it would be nice if you could point out what the shortcut key is for certain command so that new user (such as myself) can understand a lot better. Thank you for the tutorial, looking forward for the next tutorial series.
Hi Efendi! Thank you very much for your feedback. Yes my next free tutorial is almost out and I got that feedback a lot about the grenade tutorial. Next one I try to be more clear about which actions I use. Cheers, Tim :)
Great tutorial.
Just one thing though. Mk = Mark. It's a mark 2 grenade.
+robbie pemberton Thanks for the headsup about that Robbie!
you're incredible.Thank you.
Thanks~!nice tutor!
I am a begginer at modeling, but the way you connect your vertices seems random compared to other youtube tutorials... When i add the chamfer and turbosmooth my model glitches a lot and i have to figure out where to fix... Seems like theres no proper edge flow
In 38:55 when I uncheck the option Min. Angle nothing happens, can someone help me please, im stuck in that part.
Hi ConTii! Hmm, that sucks.. I am not sure why that is the case to be honest. Did you assign the smoothing groups the same way I did? I would double check that. Worst case if you don't mind you can upload me your scene somewhere and I will take a look. Send it to me through facebook.com/chamferzone please. Cheers.
Ok, done, thanks a lot.
I have that problem too...(Solved) I just found the solution. You need to have autosmooth on that element except these poligons ybex.com/d/7hxnbse9l2gik4kwxggrztv05t24f6d755xllujc.html
unwrapping is so complicated :s
Best fucking teacher.
Not actual "fucking" teacher tho
At 7:20 when using the array tool my model doesnt line perfectly like his did even though I followed the tutorial exactly, anyone else having the same problem?
same thing happened to me
me too :(
this is amazing!! thank you :- )
+Alejandro Montes Thank you too! Glad you you like it.
Wow thank you so much for this amazing tutorial, will definitely practice it 😄
This is one of the best updated tutorial I have seen for 3ds Max. But is it possible if you make a beginners version of this possibly making a model of a handgun?. Since some rookies like me missed a lot of shortcuts commands you used.
+Paddy 4444 Hi Paddy, sorry sometimes some comments slip through the radar. It may not be a handgun but my AKM tutorial is now out and comes with a beginners chapter in 3DS Max. Cheers! :)
You should show how to model it in blender I’m using blender and I’m following this tutorial
Nice tutorial, I'm able to follow along pretty well, thanks!
One thing though, it'd be more helpful for complete beginners if you could describe what hotkeys etc. to use in order to perform certain functions. Someone who hasn't used 3ds Max before wouldn't know most of those to start.
hi im learnign a lot from u but can u explain to me something i mean when i do remove edges they dont connect with each others automaticly i need to do selction and then cap and then connect is there some steps or some sitting to fixe that i will be thankfull
So im a Maya type of modeler and I have never modeled inside of 3DsMax before but my question is if there are people out there that subdivision model in 3DsMax?
Tried my best, but can't do this one with Maya instead of Max. Too much of the modelling seems contrary to what I've learned about avoiding ngons. Also the max workflow is trickier by the looks. Great tutorial all the same. Thanks for sharing all the source files. :)
will it be acceptable, if there is distortion in checker as u did the cyliinderical mapping on the apple shape but it's still showing the distortion in the checker, as i followed the same process, isn't this will create the problem in texturing I mean it will lead to distortion in the texture
Great as usual! Thank you! However, I have one question. In high poly models you have a lot of N-gons, which is considered to be no good. What's the right way to do with it?
Hey Baxter, thanks for your comment! I think though that you confuse low poly with high poly. There is not a single ngon in the highpoly due to turbosmooth which quadifies everything. As for the lowpoly, yes there are ngons in there. Have a look at this topic and video I made regarding that :) forum.chamferzone.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9
thanks for the video. Now, I got it!
I wish I had a job like you do...
hi, there are still some distortions on grenade body 1:08:54 - look at between extruded body faces, i would like to know, can it cause serious problems in texturing?
Hello Orin, really sorry about the late reply. Slight distortions are always there when you unwrap. It's nearly impossible to not have it. As long as it won't result in a super ugly noticeable thing later on the texture it's no problem. Often you have to unwrap the UV shells as one big piece and that is only working if you take some minor stretching into account. It certainly won't mess up your texture later on. That is why it's good to apply a checker pattern texture while we unwrap because it sort of gives you a preview of how the stretching looks like.
Hey! Amazing Tutorial and I'm considering buying the AK47 one. Would it be possible to explain more in details why you remove some edges, why you create some others ???
@7:17, facing issue with array, model doesn't line align properly, solution please! TY!
Impressive workflow. As a furniture designer doing everything from soft upholstery to hardwood dining tables is 3ds Max a good program to invest in and learn? I notice some of the best images in my field are a combo of 3ds max, Marvelous designer and maybe even Zbrush. It feels overwhelming. Where should I focus my energy first? I'm having a hard time modeling a simple sofa. :). Subscribed.
@46:19 how to I make it look like that for blender cause blender doesn’t have different smoothing groups.
@ ChamferZone
At 8:54 i cant seem to align my faces? its not flush more like 3 seperate faces, Eg. half a hexagon
EDIT: i had an edge constraint selected
+Samuel Fisher Glad you figured it out Samuel!
@@ChamferZone I haven't figured it out yet :P, i dont have any constraint yet it seams to form like a triangle
You need to make the sounds quality better and louder. Had to max out the sound on my pc and that sure isn't adequate.
Hello Bee, you are right. That was the first tutorial I recorded. When you compare it to my new kukri tutorial you will notice the quality improved a lot! (thanks to my new microphone)
*Vielen dank!*
how did your model automatically set up after deleting the edge loop?
Thank youuu
Hi, I dont understand some things about texturing and low poly models. You export low poly and high poly mesh without baking normal map, Substance painter bake automaticly normal map using high poly mesh? I hope You answer my question
Hi! Is there any particular reason why you always use slice plane before placing symmetry modifier? As far as I know, there is no difference, so I just wanted to know if I miss something.
