      @@richardcollins6684 Shouldn't really bring politics in to dirty up a beautiful moment. He looked so proud of her, and rightly so. I didn't watch this year's Oscars, but I've heard he was excluded from the "In Memoriam" segment, which just feels wrong to me.

      pat442389 I found out he is very much in touch with his emotions and does that a lot. Mira mentioned backstage that her whole family is like that, which is great.

    Seeing her parents tear up like that made me want to do the same. I sometimes daydream of being able to accept such a major award like this and to thank my parents and see their faces. You can tell just from that moment that the family is very close and humbling.

    I like how she didn't accept the Oscar first, instead she took her time giving an eloquent speech. You could definitely tell she was grateful, and it's a shame I don't see her in much anymore cause she's a really great actress.

      A wonderful actress, Mira Sorvino won all the major film critics awards that year, including The New York Film Critics Award, plus the Golden Globe, she was great in The Grey Zone and has received best actress Emmy nominations for made for tv films. It came out recently that perv criminals Harvey Weinstein blacklisted Mira Sorvino (AshleyJudd too, and allegedly Gwyneth Paltrow) when these three actesses,among many others came out to report his sexual harrassment and alleged assault

      Mira should’ve walked up to the middle of the stage where the big Mike was but she decided to make a little stop at the podium. At the end of her speech can see Martin passing her on the Oscar.

    I love Mira Sorvino so much. She did a great job in 'Mighty Aphrodite'. She deserved that award. Later she will be in 'Mimic' and 'The Replacement Killers' - my guilty pleasures from the 90's. Unfortunately, she's so underrated nowadays.

    Feeling the eyes getting tight and crying big time. Makes you want to call and reach out to your dad or give him a big hug. My dad has been gone since 2-13-2003, so this was like watching my own dad. Beautiful actor and human being.

    To be the person talking about fashion... I'l be guilty. Her hair... I can't... She is never mentioned as being a fashion legend for the Oscars... and I think that's unacceptable. Every bit of hair was structured perfectly. Her jewelry, her make-up, her gown... Whoever styled her... wow.

    A few minutes ago, I came home from a pre-opening party of the Golden Door International Film Festival of Jersey City. She was the guest of honor. We had perhaps 75 to 100 people at this small gathering. She showed herself to be a sweet and sincere person, very down to earh and unaffected. This is one classy young woman.

    I thought about this moment when I read about Paul Sorvino’s death yesterday…he had to have been so proud! And it was so strange seeing the same man who played that unsettling capo in Goodfellas break down in tears. RIP to a proud father, wonderful actor, and great human being.

    That was so honest and beautiful.. we could see that true emotions come out there. All that talk about actors doing their bit on stage proved wrong. Mira Sorvino was so beautifully humble, gentle and sweet on stage, especially when she thanked her parents. Very touching speech!!

    Winslet was not robbed. Sorvino was outstanding in this film. It's an exceptional film and and Woody is a genius. He knows women, he writes women exceptionally. She shone in that film.
    The part when her Father, the great, Paul Sorvino cries at the this speech gets me every time. Bravo Lady, you did good x

    I totally agree with you on that point. I enjoyed her speech and was moved by her father's emotional display of appreciation from his daughter. I loved Marisa Tomei performance and use to see her in one of the soaps a long time ago and she really learned her craft as I am sure Tori learned hers too.

    Mare Winningham looked gorgeous in here. I really liked her performance in Georgia, it was a surprising nomination for me to be honest. It took me some viewings to realise however, the many shades of her character and how well she played (or underplayed) them. But Mira was a deserving winner.

    I remember so well when she won, not because I loved the movie or her performance (because I didn't see this movie), but the way her father cried and beamed with pride as he watched his little girl win an Oscar. It still makes me tear up, it's just so beautiful to watch. Congrats to her for this, having a father who loved her this much and for all of her impressive accomplishments. I'd be proud of my daughter too if she was like this woman is!
