I loved Marisa Tomei in this role. She makes the film worth rewatching. Such a shame that she had to endure all those hurtful comments later. The Oscars are supposed to be about excellent performances in roles that viewers enjoy, not just with characters where someone has psychological issues or is dying. This lovely lady delivered and well deserved her win.

      Shridhar Ambady
Marisa Tomei was relatively unknown at this point and was up against some big stars for the award. Because the presenter, Jack Palance, had been acting a little strangely, people started saying that he'd become confused and said the wrong name. Vanessa Redgrave had been the favourite to win and, so, poor Marisa Tomei's big moment was soured by these horrible rumours for years afterwards.

Marisa was wonderful in that role. It's one of the few times the Academy surprised everyone, but got it right. It's sad that she had to endure such crap over her win due to sour grapes that a new comer in a comedy role actually won over established Oscar darlings. The way Marisa elevated "My Cousin Vinny" with her performance is still talked about today, while the others have largely been forgotten. Marisa has helped silence many of those who spitefully claimed she didn't deserve her Oscar by the endurance of her performance and getting two more nominations since.

Marisa Tomei was absolutely brilliant in her role as Vinny’s girlfriend, and she utterly deserves to win an Academy award for Best Supporting Actress - no less. “My Cousin Vinny” is one of the best comedy movies that I have seen - I am 76. May Marisa live to be 100 and ten. Thanks for sharing video.

Harvey Weinstein rubbish. They only started de-emphasising their british heritage after the revolution. It’s by far the largest ethinticity in America. And judging by someone who names himself after a pedophile rapist, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
As for Australia, bullshit. It’s already 20% Asian there. One of the most multicultural western nations in the world. You would be straining to find an Australian that is pure british heritage unless they’re a migrant. South Australia, particularly the barrosa valley has always been the league hub for German immigration. Most defendants are 7th generation Australians already. In fact America has more people of English decent than Australia. Also being the fact that the largest immigration to Australia is from China and India not Britain, you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. Look at classrooms and school photos. White kids are the minority now. Not to mention the LARGE population of white people who date Asian women now. So, don’t you say that australians are predominately british or only fuck british people because it simply ain’t true.
Just a stupid yank that thinks they’re 100% American in denial about their british heritage. Hell, even your president had a british grandparent

I think dramatic actresses are wonderful. Hell, you have Joan Plowright and Vanessa fucking Redgrave. However, I think the most difficult realm of acting lies within comedy. Writing a comedy is difficult as it is let alone acting in one. Comedic performances often get overlooked because actors have to think of not only digging in the character but having a sharp sense of comedic timing, and finding ways to make people laugh and sob all at once. It is tough and Marisa deserved it!

Marisa Tomei 100% deserved taht award. She is such an impressive actress. It's extremely hard to get really good and interesting lead film roles for an actress of Tomei's type, but she's given some really natural and moving performances that demonstrate truly extraordinary talent. In "My Cousin Vinny," however, it was a landmark performance with an energy and a screen presence that easily beat out even first-rate competition.
