Jodie is an actress who is exceptionally articulate and natural. She's smarter than the norm, speaking with both intelligence and grace. She attended a French-language prep school, the Lycée français in Los Angeles (and consequently speaks French fluently). She also was awarded a Doctor of Fine Arts from Yale.
Noe Berengena I like her but she doesn't sound that intelligent just normal. She went to a French-Language prep school. Well that would sound really smart for those who aren´t French that is.

Jodie Foster is an unequivocal definition of a young achiever, first Oscar nomination at 14, two Oscars by 29, first directorial venture at 25 and feature film debut at 28, she's simply stunning
Perhaps the greatest irony of The Silence of the Lambs is that some people believe that this movie about the marginalization of women was stolen by a man. And sure enough, Anthony Hopkins gave an iconic performance as Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter, a slithering serial killer whose good manners give way to despicable violence. But this rich and filling motion picture - one of my very favorites - is not his movie. It is Jodie Foster’s. It is Foster we see running the FBI training course at the beginning of the film, proving herself worthy from the opening frames and then spending the rest of the film showing her work. Every eye is upon her, lascivious or pitying, condescending or predatory. It says a lot about the world of The Silence of the Lambs that the only man in the movie who doesn’t view her as “less than” for her sex is a homicidal maniac. (And that is, if you think about it, the only reason we truly like Lecter at all. Only he and the audience can recognize Clarice Starling’s finer qualities.) Jodie Foster plays her role in The Silence of the Lambs like a master chess player, always on the defense and always on the attack. She knows when to make sacrifices and she knows when to stand up for herself. She grows in confidence over the course of the movie, as one mentor fails her and another, more unlikely mentor gives her the strength she needs to carry on. And she does it all while fighting back a hint of an accent. Clarice Starling is a real person, and she is also an act, and she is acted by one of the greatest of all actresses, operating at the peak of her abilities, giving a performance for he ages.
Why would you ever need to imply your sexuality? She's never been an outsider struggling for acceptance & validation. She's been in the biz most of her life. This was the 90's not the 50's. IMO one of the best performances of all time! I think this was a role that was almost destined to be upstaged by Anthony Hopkins. Foster completely held her own, if not surpassed Anthony, the subtlety of her performance is extraordinary!
+sonicdeatmonkey Yes. Incredible performances which lead to them becoming icons in their own right, some characters can be replaced but not the ones played by hopkins and jodie foster for sure.

Jodie's performance as Clarice Starling in the movie is one of the most subtle and brilliant performances every especially those one of one jousts sessions with lector or her's and that basement scene in final is a masterclass of acting , such a well deserved Oscar
I remember watching the Oscars when this first aired, and I was rooting for Foster to take the Oscar. I was beyond thrilled when her name was announced. An amazing, stunning performance that deserves that award.
When I saw this movie a long time ago, I was so overwhelmed by Anthony Hopkins that I thought only Lecter had any appeal in this movie, but when I watched it again recently, I realized what a great performance Jodie Foster gave.... She's also a really great actress!
Jodie foster is a wonderfull actrees and unforgettable she got a enormous character is beautiful person she was strong woman when revealed was gay im still think she is amazing and she knows god bless jodie!
So Im french and lived in New Zealand for 30 yrs and returned to France 3 yrs ago to live. I struggle to Watch English speaking movies on french TV because they're all dubbed and it sucks but I was once at my sisters and we were watching a movie with Jodie Foster and I was blown away with the voice of the "dubber" as it was just like Jodie's… Turns out she's fluent in french and dubs all her movies in french
I saw SOTL in a dark movie theater when i was 16 yo and couldn't sleep for days . That's how powerful it was when it came out. It wasn't just a movie it was an experience.
It's amazing how Jodie Foster has crafted a legacy where it's only her work that matters and not her personal life (though people have been prying on her sexuality for years, before she finally acknowledged it publicly). For someone who has been working in the film business since age 3 and has been a global movie star ever since her breakthrough year of 1976 at age 13, it's remarkable how well she transitioned to mature leading roles with her sanity & integrity intact. Not to mention between all the mayhem of stardom, she managed to graduate a rigorous french language prep school as a valedictorian, had a near perfect SAT score, graduated from Yale magna cum laude in comparative literature. Jodie Foster in every sense is exceptional & remarkable, someone who would be a better suit from a career in academics but somehow ended up being in the showbiz, since she had no choice & this remarkable intellect of her's is what distinguishes her from all of her peers or literally everybody in the film industry. A once in a generation talent.
She's that only person who defies the fact that child actors don't turn out to be successful adult actors 👍👍👍👍 and she's so beautiful and elegant, her physical transformation form teenage to adulthood is 👍
Any sane person who isn't aware about the fact that Miss Foster's a genius, could very easily say that she's a gifted human solely based on her iconic performance as Clarice Starling, her fierce intellect imbues throughout
Jodie Foster truly deserved this win. Geena Davis and Susan Surandon were amazing in "Thelma and Louise", but Jodie Foster gave the most incredible performance by an actress that year.
Unfortunately it was up against Silence of the Lambs which is an absolutely brilliant movie. I was absolutely glued to the screen from the opening frame. One of the real Champs!
If they relased a year later or before than they might had a chance bcoz no could stand stiff in front of the brilliance of Jodie Foster's Clarice Starling
I find it interesting how Jodie Foster is winning a second oscar at 28 and at least three actors of her age (tom cruise, brad pitt, demi moore) are sitting just behind of her & are literally in shock & awe of her achievements.
I'm literally in love with the way she gets up from her seat and proceeds towards the stage, even her she exhibits she's a genius with such rapid reception
I agree but she's pretty & strong. was just looking up what she was in everything from television to movies. so much. I like Nell & Silence of the Lambs im not sure but they may have thought she very young ok lets make her just out of the academy might have been a role for a woman 5 or 10 years older. very innocent and evil is the silence of the lambs.
winning 2 academy awards allows someone the right to pick and choose different roles-Contact, Anna and the King, Nell, Panic Room, Inside Man and The Brave One are pretty solid performances, you could say the same thing about Hiilary Swank
they should have stood for her as they did Anthony Hopkins. as always here she just oozes grace and incredible confidence and humanity in speaking to a room. she is just amazing and in my opinion no actress has been as consistently powerful in their acting since she was in her prime
Jodie Foster was brilliant in this role! I heard that director, Jonathan Demme, was initially interested in Michelle Pfeiffer for the role, but Jodie ended up getting it. I love Michelle Pfeiffer but Jodie Foster was born to play this role. I would've loved seeing Susan Sarandon winning here a few years earlier than she did (because I love her, too... and especially in Thelma and Louise), but there's no disputing Jodie's win as being deserving.
Jodie seems to like these macabre films like CONTACT, SILENCE of the .. ETC and i think michele PF. would somehow take away from the seriousness of the film. I think she can turn any piece of crap into something noteworthy just by being there.
Love Animals weirdly, Jodie Foster and Michelle Pfeiffer were the first choices to play Thelma and Louise, with screenwriter having written the role of Thelma with Jodie in mind but Ridley Scott found her a bit younger for the part
@@peshmadscientist1833 You should rent "The Brave One", Jodie was even BETTER than Silence. But the movie tanked at the box office, so her performance went unnoticed.
Jodie Foster is an actor of exceptional talent, depth and beauty who was always ahead of her peers, by the time actors of her age were in their diapers she was making commercials, by the time they learned to speak, she was making movies for Disney, by the time they starting going to the school, she was winning awards and getting nominated for the Oscars, by the time they decided to enter films, Jodie decided to leave it behind and enjoy the ivy league world which she graduated with magna cum laude, by the time her peers had their breakthrough she already had won two Oscars and transitioned to the director's chair. An extraordinary talent, who's contribution to cinema is unparalleled and exquisite. A sheer gift to the world of acting and filmmaking
Jodie Foster is unequivocally the greatest actress of her generation and one of all-time, her choice of roles are just spectacular, always playing ground breaking roles and not conforming to the ridiculous norms of the industry right from the start, just live her with all my heart
What so amazing about this win is how it's every bit of a perfomance that the academy doesn't honour; subtle, understated, restraint and more over a woman playing the hero

She's still beautiful for her age
Gotten se transforma en supersayayin
@@ronfield8258"For her age" is nothing but an insult, regardless of the age or the person being referred to. Just say she looks beautiful.
I adore Jodie and I adore this movie
Jodie Foster kicks ass man! I love this Bitch!
She's not a Bitch!!!
Dino P. what are you talking about she's a Bitch and i love her too
No, i don't think so.
did you ever heard her little lesbian speech
What?
She's a talented actress! She acted well and filled with so much soul 👍 The right script came in at the right time.
".....and ofcourse the reason that I am here ANTHONY HOPKINS , quid pro quo doctor..." ~Great couple
If Jodie Foster had not won it would have been a travesty of injustice. Her performance is amazing!
legend always legend...love youu jodie
i'm 15 and i'm in love with her. i mean i have only seen tsotl and i'm already convinced she is the best actress ever to have come. love her
+Tanisha Jess I wish 15 y.o me could've appreciated silence of the lambs also, you have great film taste young one ;)
+Tanisha Jess that should inspire you to act!!!!
vazmo14850 it actually does. cause i want to do something in the showbiz
Jodie's performance as Clarice Starling in the movie is one of the most subtle and brilliant performances every especially those one of one jousts sessions with lector or her's and that basement scene in final is a masterclass of acting , such a well deserved Oscar
3/17/23: Jodie is so well spoken, and I love hearing her speak. I still wish her congrats for her win that year. She deserved it.
I remember watching the Oscars when this first aired, and I was rooting for Foster to take the Oscar. I was beyond thrilled when her name was announced. An amazing, stunning performance that deserves that award.
Wow.. She is one of the coolest and calm oscar winner ever!! Love her..
By the way, Love your suit
Sad very few people will get this joke
@@sabihachowdhury5034 clarice...
Jodie Foster has great acting in Silence of the Lambs.
She is such a classy, beautiful lady.
I just love how the older she gets, the more beautiful she is. In 2021, she’s our best actor. Love how happy and healthy she is
When I saw this movie a long time ago, I was so overwhelmed by Anthony Hopkins that I thought only Lecter had any appeal in this movie, but when I watched it again recently, I realized what a great performance Jodie Foster gave....
Very subtle, nuanced actor I have ever seen, she is actually multi talented.
She's that only person who defies the fact that child actors don't turn out to be successful adult actors 👍👍👍👍 and she's so beautiful and elegant, her physical transformation form teenage to adulthood is 👍
Chandrabhan Singh My Name Is Talulah, My First Rule Of Thumb, I Don’t Say Where I’m Going, Or Where I’m Coming From 🤷🏼♂️
*coughJosephGordonLeavittcough*
Jennifer Connelly too
She has always been beautiful and intelligent.
Any sane person who isn't aware about the fact that Miss Foster's a genius, could very easily say that she's a gifted human solely based on her iconic performance as Clarice Starling, her fierce intellect imbues throughout
I swear she is the best at giving a speech so gracious, articulate and yet humble , and she doesn’t take up al, the time to get it out , love her ❤️💜
That razor sharp intelligence, inherent talent and flawless grace made her the legend she is 👍👍👍👍 the greatest actress ever
👍👍👍👍
One of the BEST movies EVER
She's so humble.
Jodie Foster truly deserved this win. Geena Davis and Susan Surandon were amazing in "Thelma and Louise", but Jodie Foster gave the most incredible performance by an actress that year.
Miss Jodie Foster won her first academy award in the year 1989 and now, won an Academy Award in 1992. : )
I envy her because she's incredibly intelligent, beautiful, eloquent and elegant. Not to mention, she has achieved a lot and very successful.
On a side note - RICHARD GERE - God, I forgot what a looker he was.
John Gable Smith I was wondering who that was lol thanks
He was always a looker even from the beginning!
Susan Sarandon's face after he messes up her name is priceless. Reminds me of when Rue McClanahan's name got messed up by Howie Mandel at the Emmy's.
Michael Douglas jinxed her.
Or when Ricky Martin said aaliyahs name wrong at the Video Music Awards in 2000 haha
@@Sapsche Michael Keaton's real name.
I was literally scrolling forever for a comment on this. Yeah she looked really pissed lol.
Thelma and Louise definitely deserved more awards than it got!
It was released the wrong year
They were brilliant yes.
It was a tough choice in this year for best actress - they were all amazing talents
The brilliance of miss foster's performance as Clarice Starling is inexplicable
I find it interesting how Jodie Foster is winning a second oscar at 28 and at least three actors of her age (tom cruise, brad pitt, demi moore) are sitting just behind of her & are literally in shock & awe of her achievements.
I'm literally in love with the way she gets up from her seat and proceeds towards the stage, even her she exhibits she's a genius with such rapid reception
Such a great actress but sometimes her film choices have let her down, where's she been the last 20 years..?
I agree but she's pretty & strong. was just looking up what she was in everything from television to movies. so much. I like Nell & Silence of the Lambs im not sure but they may have thought she very young ok lets make her just out of the academy might have been a role for a woman 5 or 10 years older. very innocent and evil is the silence of the lambs.
winning 2 academy awards allows someone the right to pick and choose different roles-Contact, Anna and the King, Nell, Panic Room, Inside Man and The Brave One are pretty solid performances, you could say the same thing about Hiilary Swank
heard abt orange is the new black?
mateusz dudzinski You Sir are class one jackass!
carnage
they should have stood for her as they did Anthony Hopkins. as always here she just oozes grace and incredible confidence and humanity in speaking to a room. she is just amazing and in my opinion no actress has been as consistently powerful in their acting since she was in her prime
Aaron Wilkins Very much agreed.
👍👍 but they only stand for blacks or old grandpa
It was her second Oscar is 3 years, so they might have felt that she's enriched enough.
Aaron Wilkins so true but in the end they no she's superior to all of them and it can be sidelined coz she's young
Jodie Foster la plus française de mes actrices américaine préférées ;)
That's literally one hell of a music to get up, walk the stairs and accept an Oscar
Love Animals Michelle Pfeiffer was first choice in those days to play a lot of great roles. Turning this one down probably came back to haunt her.
@@siddharthnaagar7028 He's right, she was too young for the part.
A sheer gift to the world of acting and filmmaking
the greatest win of the 90s and one of all-time
To hear her happiness and gratefulness and joy, gave me chills of joy...
A well deserved Oscar Win for Jodie. Also deserved it in the movie "Contact"
These are the wins that keeps my faith alive on the Oscars
Back when they would let them just ramble on and on and on and on.
I miss those days. it's just an acting award, not "hey I save humanity and animals" award
RJ D she only spoke for like a minute and a half....
But if u have a smart and well spoken person like Jodie rambling then it's a pleasure
get over it
Shesaid it26 he wasn't sitting there coz his category came up before her
Her confidence always slays me
Jodie Foster is unequivocally the greatest actress of her generation and one of all-time, her choice of roles are just spectacular, always playing ground breaking roles and not conforming to the ridiculous norms of the industry right from the start, just live her with all my heart
I never thought genius would ever be a word used for an actor or performance but not unless you are Jodie Foster
This woman is complete perfection and Hollywood secretly envies that
Yet they also rewarded her with a stellar career in it. Hm...
Holy shit!!! Her voice 😍😍😍😍😍😍
The genius of Jodie foster is inexplicable
Probably one of the greatest movies of all time .
Jodie foster naturally classic performance ❤️
What so amazing about this win is how it's every bit of a perfomance that the academy doesn't honour; subtle, understated, restraint and more over a woman playing the hero
"Anthony Hopkins ! quid pro quo Doctor..!" charming Jodie ❤ wish i saw anthony's reaction
