Oats, beans and nuts all contain high levels of complete proteins. Actually 1/2 cup of oats contains 6 g of protein, the same as 1/2 cup of beans and one egg. Cocoa powder surprisingly contains protein but it's not a complete protein(only 8 amino acids), it's also loaded with magnesium and fiber.
Thank you for this informative video. As one of the countless individuals out here who are trying to balance taste, nutrition, and calories, these videos are very helpful. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I have low protein and having trouble understanding why and what to do about it. I eat a lot less now since Im at home due to Covid. I plan to try all of the you suggested, lucky I love them all.
Loved the comments on number 6 - contexts so so so important. Would be great to have this included more often, were applicable. Also would like a better understanding of Bio -available (eg iron reference in this video). What is the bio availableness of proteine in plant, eg lentils and how it compere with animal proteine, outside of life style choices of course.
Dont eat tuna everyday, they are high in mercury and it accumulates in your body. Eat sardines which has a fraction of the mercury of tuna, high in omega 3 and calcium and just slightly less in protein per can.
From a fellow Dietitian, I love your videos! However, I'm wondering about the content of protein in the oats that you mentioned. In the US, 1/2 cup raw oats ranges from 3-6 grams depending on the type (Quick, thick cut, steel cut). Do you have some kind of "Super Oats" down in AU?!
This is based on USDA data. A full cup of raw oats contains 26 grams of protein, a half cup contains 13 grams. Maybe you are listing the content for cooked oatmeal (oats + lots of water)? Here is a reference. Their info is based on data from the USDA: nutritiondata.self.com/facts/cereal-grains-and-pasta/5708/2
As a fellow dietitian I too love these videos and the articles. I agree that oats are a wonderful grain but I also agree with the inaccuracy of the protein. The site you provided said the serving of 1 cup is 156 grams. I looked at a box of rolled oats and it list 1/2 cup as 39 grams meaning the 156 grams is 2 cups not once. As you posted in another video 1/2 cup of oats is about 4-5 G protein. The 13 grams is very misleading since if someone were to consume 26 G protein from oats that would also be 100 grams of carb.
when doing these type of videos, it would be very helpful if y'all also mention how much of the included protein is / can-be absorbed by the human body :)
Definitely not healthy. The Japanese and Chinese eat un-processed soy but unfortunately when it gets to the supermarket it is healthily processed. It becomes toxic food when processed, very carcinogenic. Stay well clear of processed soy.
"healthy or not" isn't really a thing in nutrition ... it's more about comparisons to other foods. Is tofu healthier than red meat? yes. is it healthier than spinach? probably not.
So many people have such extreme opinions here, like in politics, it's either perfect or it's pure evil. Why do you get so angry about someone's opinion on food? All things in moderation, folks! There are degrees of good and bad in most things. If you eat fatty red meat every day, you may develop heart disease. If you only eat broccoli for your protein, you may end up malnourished, which will probably shorten your life. My grandparents' generation had many centenarians who never worried about what they ate like our generation. They ate to live. They were farmers so they didn't have to worry about having enough food. They ate whole foods without chemicals or GMO's, because that's all there was. They cooked with lard, made their own butter and bread, and ate lots of red meat and very little processed foods. They ate fresh vegetables and fruit in the summer and canned ones in the winter. They didn't call each other names and get all angry because someone ate a steak or voted for a different candidate, it's not personal.
No dairy? What about Greek yogurt… everything in the video was factually correct but totally incomplete assessment for those who don’t know or may be new to working out or weight loss. They could’ve spent 10 more minutes doing their due diligence to add 5 more sources of health proteins
+AuthorityNutrition Hey there! I am just really interested in knowing what would you say about hormones and cholesterol in eggs. Also I would really like your opinion on Doctor Campbell The china study book. Honetly, I don´t think the title of this video is accuarate. Not that super healthy in my opinion.
Hi, on the 22nd Dec '16 you published a video about the best 5 foods to eat at breakfast where Oats was one of them. But you stated that one cup of oats is equivalent to 6 grams of protein where here you say half a cup is 13 grams of protein. Why is this?
The breakfast foods video is talking about cooked oatmeal, this one is talking about raw oats. The oatmeal has tons of water too which dilutes the protein content. So half a cup of raw dry oats contains 13 grams of protein. A full cup of oatmeal (raw oats plus lots of water) contains 6 grams.
Darren Seabolt It's purely about calories in vs calories out. The macros don't really matter when it comes to losing weight. (Losing body fat and getting nutrients is a different story though). A high protein and low carb diet helped me lean out without losing much muscle that I gained.
You don’t tell wer we find the clean non toxic fish and beef only if you near in the See the fish that they sell in town are Toxics 😉same with beef to find it clean you must feed the animal …… with clean food what food give in his beefs the owner??? You don’t have a clew !
In Australia we are surrounded by waters and import poisoned sea food from Vietnam, but it is of course fir ordinary deplorables who can not afford to pay for good quality one... very sad
This video is not totally correct when talking about beef. Beef definitely contains all that he said but the human body, once fully grow no longer needs a huge amount of animal protein if any - although the meat industry would have you believe otherwise! Adult humans should be getting protein mainly from plant based. The body finds it incredibly hard to process meat and this is why if you eat lots of red meat in particular you can encounter lots of health problems. Any foods where the body takes like 24 hours to process is not good - a lot of energy used up just trying to process the food out of the body and utilise it. Once adults. our bodies are no longer growing so we don't need a lot of certain animal products anymore. Children are different, their bodies are growing and they should be very active, therefore their bodies are using up these proteins more efficiently than adult bodies. Too much red meat can also contribute to disease. If you are critically ill, red meat will not contribute to healing the body. What does contribute to healing the body is huge amounts of greens variety and berries not forgetting herbs and in tea forms. This should in itself tell you something. In fact, for critically ill too much red meat would continue to keep your body in an unhealthy state. The new controversial on red meat is everything but wrong, It is so correct. Just like the new controversial on eating lots of healthy fats is good for you and fact, you will lose weight, is also correct.

For people asking why not other sources, this is his opinion of great sources. Compared to others broccoli has little, but among veges its alot
Your emphasis on, and explanation of, context is excellent, which is why chicken should have been included in this video, but not broccoli.
I eat eggs, oats and tuna everyday for the daily protein 💪💪 🏋️
Dont eat tuna everyday, they are high in mercury and it accumulates in your body. Eat sardines which has a fraction of the mercury of tuna, high in omega 3 and calcium and just slightly less in protein per can.
Broccoli is not a significant protein source,
Organic oats with my breakfast every morning mixed with chia seeds, blueberries, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds

Soy is really bad for your thyroid too, and a poor thyroid slows metabolism.

I have a question… If I eat seafood, but not red meat, do I need to be taking an amino acid supplement and if so, which one or kind?
Thank you very interesting and educational
Most everywhere I check .5 cup of oats has about 6 grams...even the food label on my Quaker oats agrees.

Broccoli is actually my favorite Vegetable. So, this is good news for me!
Cottage cheese in my go-to for the high protein on the cheap cheaper than protein powder doses per gram

Try food combining for full protein. eg, beans +corn
I love oats I eat 100g of oats mixed with 1 scoop of whey protein every morning
Good information 👍 👌

Its plain, rolled oats too.

Protein will gain muscle alright, but it does not help in losing weight.
Darren Seabolt protein is the most filling macronutrient, eating it keeps hunger at bay therefore causing you to naturally eat less.
Only if that were true, I'd be losing weight already

Low carbs huh? I can't do without my carbs. I'm going to have to try something else.
Darren Seabolt you are completely wrong just eat meat/proteins and vegetables to get super lean just very low carbs and no sugars
Eggs, oats, and lean beef are the only things I will eat from this video thank you
