- Our latest project car is a 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera C2.
It wasn't what we set out to buy, but when one comes up for sale for 15K less than anything else on the market at the time, we couldn't help ourselves. First step is the bare essentials. Авто/Мото
You can't knock a 911. Nice choice Andrew. Those wheels 👌
Finally someone does a before and after exhaust sound clip properly! Sick purchase mate, congrats! Lets get some car meet vlogs showing this beauty off.
I think it's great you outlined the criteria you had when looking for a car. Many don't seem to know what they want and wonder why they never happy with what car they get. One car can't do it all (at a realistic price), so with your Nissans and the WRX, the role your Porsche plays in your 'car needs life' makes a lot of sense. It don't need to be a drag car, circuit car or rally hack. Getting a well engineered car at or near bottom of depreciation curve is the way for sure. They still cost you of course, but at least not in depreciation!
200mphgt40 one car certainly can’t do it all. We figured beat to explain why we got it as so many people have an opinion online without knowing the facts or circumstance
We also have a Van we use for work and don’t daily drive much so choice is different for us.
@@MotiveVideo next a big single turbo 335i e90?
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your Porsche journey with us!
Super interesting. Love what you did
That suspension shop looks awesome. Congrats on the purchase Andrew!
Congrats. Great choice. Looking forward to the tuning.
Fark yeah, been waiting a while to see your new toy. Keep em coming mate 😎🤙🤜
Nice choice Andrew, something different to follow 👍
Looks awesome! Love the wheels
Love the car man nice work. One of my bucket list cars also. 👌
Awesome find!, I just did this exact same thing, got out of the CLS Merc and into a used Porsche, I really wanted a 997 but with a bigger kid (who just started high school) I chose to go to 92A Cayenne GTS, fantastic car with a NA V8 and about 10 years newer etc etc, but it will depreciate way more than a sports car and it hasn't scratched my itch for a 911 though!
Awesome choice nice video man we really like them!!!
Congrats big fella there's nothing like Porsche ownership they are a true drivers car and built to perfection
Trent Giumelli they most certainly are NOT built to perfection.
Trent Giumelli I’m pretty sure an S14/15 with basic suspension mods handles better than this 911.
@@mareksumguy1887 i somehow doubt that my friend... ever been in or driven a GT3/RS?
Shits all over any S class chassis. In fact an FD handles better than s14/15
Trent Giumelli notice I said “with basic suspension mods”!
Yes, in stock form an FD out handles a stock S chassis.
And I also said “this 911”!..... who said anything about a GT3!?
@@mareksumguy1887 Hilarious. "hurr durr if you upgrade this it will be better than X!" that goes for any car, and any amount of money poured into a car. What a silly argument. I have a 997 and its just point and go and does it go. Let off the gas slightly coming into a turn and the nose just digs with exceptional handling. Coupled with the huge rear tires you can pin the throttle and it shoots out of corners. Instead of assuming, why don't you get into these cars and drive them.
Beautiful buy mate well done. How can you not love a Porsche, the pedigree.
cool video Andrew - was the exhaust bypass pipe 1 1/2 inch or 2 Inch please?
Almost my dream garage at the end, that being an R33 V-Spec and a 993 turbo.
Cool stuff as usual mate.
Congrats mate on a great purchase. Nice to see you coming over to the dark side ;)
Awesome video as always
Wheels are a fantastic improvement.
I just found this channel .. its pretty cool to watch a decent youtube channel by fellow Aussies ( Brisbane ) .. I watch alot of DDE, Stradman, B is for build etc .. now I have to watch all the back episodes lol.
Excellent choice!
Hell yes that looks good!
Looking good.. Very nice... 👌
997s are the best 911 buy right now
Great segment
Car looks great Andrew.
The Porsche is nice, but I think the e92 m3 has already hit the bottom of its depreciation curve and prices will start to go up soon, plus in my opinion its just better looking
Awesome car, mods so far look brilliant👍. Would love to see some carbon on the car, maybe a carbon body hugging spoiler or mirror caps?
Good way to refine a 997. I approve :-D
Wow amazing automobiles! I love to belong a Porsche 911 anyday!
OMG !! Top video!!
I wasnt sold until i saw the Meisters. They made this blob look soooooo spicy.
do you think that exhaust mod would work on a Cayman?
Big advantage to the auto is that even if the car was tracked, it wasn't ever over-revved. The ECU's won't allow it. Manual cars on the other hand...pull the ECU logs and you probably don't want the car as many have been well past the limiter. Also do a gearbox re-map and you'd be surprised what the auto will do.
Beautyful sound.
Every time I watch your channel I end up wanting stuff lol
Now to convince the wife to add a 3rd race car the the stable - porsche baby ;)
What spring rates did you end up with?
7:07 ok ok a little different
7:24 WOWWW i take that back
I'm surprised they haven't looked into the bmw with the n54 engine. Lots of tuning capabilities and upgrades.
@Motive - What spring rates did you end on? What did you try?
Rarely do we get a video that talks about trying diff rates. 👍 Was it 50#/in diff you tried or big diffs in rates?
I'm still waiting for an update on the mx-6 GT 2.2 12v turbo F2T, I had an DX n/a model and we put 270k miles it. It's the car I learned to drive in one.
Noiceeeee! Love it. Minus the auto lol.
"snap oversteer, common with this chassis" heart dropped...
Spoiler needed asap to complete
Awesome choice and those Meisters suit it very well and I'm excited to see what the intake can do. Hope you're gonna do some exterior mods too.
I'mRinoX Maybe a bit of a GT3 inspired wing?!
@@dancarlos1216 Yeah i thought about that too, a whole body kit would be sick i think.
It's a shame to waste time, effort and money on a sloppy automatic, but a great way to work on the chassis and feel the great handling of a Porsche. Can't wait to see the next car
Why? The chassis is the same as a manual and great to drive through hills. You obviously havent spent much time in sydney traffic either. Plus, we have a 9 second GT-R wtih a sequential and a Silvia time attack car with sequential and WRX race car.
@@MotiveVideo Because the automatic gearboxes in these aging Porsches do not hold up well to modern standards and remove a quite significant amount of driver interaction and feedback from these wonderful cars.
As long as you love it though, that's all that really matters here.
We are not all boy racers like you man
go tell dudes spending millions on automatics, that they bought a shit car
Porsche 911 expensive in Australia new because of corrupt Government 35 yrs since Bob hawke was in power , Auto was cheaper option on a 911 used in oz in Usa $50000usd buys you a 2013 911 . USA doesn't have federal consumption tax why the much cheaper new and used
🏴🏴🏴🥰🥰🥰 YES. Absolutely love Motive builds. There done progressively and not just 'build the biggest' like other channels.
Imagine Top gear Australia with Andrew. It would be totally different animal.
ifgezroxy he actually made final selection of their original tv show try outs. 🤷♂️
@@MotiveVideo that is pretty cool. They sadly lost a very knowledgeable and passionate car guy for some schmuck.
MEISTERS ON A 911 FUCK YES!
Those work meister damn my dream wheels
this can get expensive very quickly
Good stuff
i believe sir james may calls what you describing at the start "the Fizz" (Y)
Oh man, them wheels!
need to polish the outer rim sections of those works, otherwise the wheels merge into the tyres and look smaller than they are
Hopefully you also made it fire resistant, your weather is quite hot lately
Ive driven the 997.2 (series 2) which has computer controlled shocks so Im not sure if its the same as your 997.1
Alfa Won base model 997.1 doesn’t have magnetic dampers.
well played
Looks great, a nice rear spoiler on that would look even more sweet 👌🏼
funny you mention that.....
Motive Video yes looking forward to see what’s next
It's rediculous how much more we pay for higher end cars than Europe or the US, I assume it's mostly taxes and dealer greed. Awesome car though, always have to hunt for a good deal and looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Love the wheel fitment/ride height. Congrats on a sweet car. Can see a manual conversion episode in the future. Lol.
You aren’t changing this to a manual without a LOT of headache and a LOT of expense - remember this is German engineering, nothing is simple - on top of the mechanical side you need to reflash the ECU - which on it’s own is a challenge.
David ell I was kidding, well sort of 🤣 Andrew seems to have a lot of contacts and skills...
@@MrStuwr250f I know - because seriously who in their right mind would take an auto over a manual - but alas cost normally dictates most decisions, as it did in this case - having said that the tiptronic is still awesome - but I'd love to see someone attempt the conversion.
David ell I would imagine the occasional 911 manual 997’s get wrecked occasionally...I know it’s a daily but if the opportunity arose I would imagine it’d be tough knock back if all the required parts became available.
I bought an auto rx2 back in day and had to convert it..fortunately it wasn’t hard at all...not quite a Porsche though 🤣
@@MrStuwr250f Loved my rotaries and had a few in my time but an RX2 is not a Porsche - and if you do some research you will find it is very, very difficult to do the switch - you need to change all the mechanical items, the wiring harness, the computer etc I only know one car that has been successfully switched and that was in Singapore - and the cost and expense could only be justified because cars are ludicrously expensive there (even mores than Aussie) - not to mention your resale value is shot because you have a “Frankenstein” - much cheaper to sell and buy a manual - but again I'd love to watch someone do it.
THAT XE FALCON @4:56 IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE.
The Gundo hack is OK for a while. But here's how you make your 997 sound like a GT3RS (I'm not joking..)
Get a Dansk Super Sound back box. Dansk are absolute experts at Porsche aftermarket and their kit is incredibly well made (and not that pricey)
Get 200 cell sport cats. I just welded some basic cats in there and then flash deleted the post cat o2 sensor
And he presto.. You have the ultimate sounding 997.
Some may also tackle the headers but chances are the bolts will be seized to hell and it'll be a big job. Only for the brave, that one
Other great mods.. LED lights back and front. And I stuck 15-18mm wheel spacers on the rears (to widen the track and give the car a more old school 911 look) and something like 13mm on the front.
Awesome cars!
Thanks for the video! I really like this car, very nice upgrade over the Audi. Do you think the 911 is spacious enough to carry one or two kids in the back? Curious to know, since I would never consider a 911 for such duties and I am happy to be proven wrong.
aDaWaN depends how big your children are. My partner actually fits in the back on passenger side
Driver side could be thought with me driving. My daughter is 7 but as tall as the average 10-11 Year old and fits fine.
Are there plans to tune it after the intake?
Yes
Been waiting for this!
I see a awesome Renault 12 with rally tires in the back...
Awesome video. But you may want to invest in some lighting equipment. Increasing the brightness of the video in postproduction adds too much noise.
Spotto Walky in the shop!
I´d like some driving and owning impressions as you guys are mainly JDM focused, how is the step to a 997?
bingoberra18 I was a Porsche sceptic until I drove a 991 GT3 in 2015. They live up to the hype. The chassis is incredible
FYI 'Penultimate' means second to last. Not final
I ♥️ my shock works. Wouldn't use anything else
These things seem unreal cheap to me at the moment - I want 10 of these :D ... now everyone will buy one and prices will go up =(
Garden edging Lip kit needed
Nice i wanna get a 996 and wide body it can't go wrong with a porker
997 is always a good choice
RUclips lead me to this in my feed because I too have a 997, I was expecting something else. “Wheels, lowered, exhaust, tint, stereo” & “Wheels make the car” 😏😃 I live in Oz too but brought mine over from Europe totally stock, the roads and speed limits here don’t use 5% of the car’s potential, it just seems pointless to add “mods” to a 911 when you’re factoring in resale value mate. Make sure you keep the stock bits, because potential buyers will walk away from it.
A very good thing just happened
Wow great Times very interesting
Still missing the green beast
IMS? Wow these are expensive in Australia. Swapping out the pre-PDK shushbox for a manual might be a bit involved but will make it much more desirable, although that level of work would make more sense on an S with fewer miles.
Blame government
holy fuck the wheels!!!! damn son
I thought Gundo Hack was the opening batsman for Pakistan
Try a set of uprated anti roll bars. They make a huge difference on these cars.
Simon Kent were looking into suspension upgrades also
There is alot of talk around geo with these cars and having track or road bias setups. Full track setups make them very nervous on the road and unpleasant to drive. If its a mainly street car then its best to stick with a more road friendly geo setup otherwise is becomes not enjoyable to drive. But you probably knew all that already.
Simon Kent when we wheel signed it we did for the street. Bills runs are still fun but it’s biased towards street and it’s great
I could see you in an old E63 M6 mate with a straight pipe, that 10cyl would howl lol
Did look at the V10 M5 and M6 as well. Resale woudlnt have been great, but if one had popped up for a bargain probably would have grabbed it
@@MotiveVideo all silver foxes think the same mate lol
e60 m5 you mean,e63 is amg
Looked nice stock
Mike Silver we thought it looked boring and like a 50 year old accountants car.
wHy DiDnT yOu GeT a FaLcOn TheYRe ThE BEsT
Why wouldn’t you buy a 996 tk get a manual?
Make it a project car where u change it to a manual. Better resale value also
John-Murray Hofmeyr rumour has it a manual conversion is huge money
@@MotiveVideo Thats why I wane see if the guys can do it cheaper if they find a damaged doner car and do the work themselves
Damn that's expensive. There's like 20k here in the Netherlands, then again, we don't have gtr's or silvia's or anything cool at all
Snape totally different marker here and different currency. The average 997 price is more like 80K, so what we paid is cheap
@@MotiveVideo I understand, but I thought it wild that there's such a price difference for the same car. Looking forward to more video's anyway
Tax $87000 brand new blame government
Do yourself a favour spend the $299 on the iDrive Throttle Controller works a treat on the auto just makes the car feel spectacular takes your 15 min to fit
Bazza Torana will look into it
Should have got a 2S!
Marek Sumguy re listen the buying criteria. Cheapest S automatic targa was 70K. Cheapest 2S manual couple was over 90K
Best car for around 50k in canada
manual , better , awd also better
nice choice though boys
big Kirkey cheapest C4S manual was 90,000
Double our original budget
Wow! Porsche’s are expensive in AU 😫
I picked up a manual 997 4S for about the same price here in the states. (AU$58,000 is approx US$40,000)
Yes, they are about double in AU than USA :(
Tax $87000 brand new blame government , I notice USA doesn't have federal consumption tax = no tax on the retail price $100000usd without taxes in USA
@@jpdp3339 not double the price, 30% more in Australia
Social democracy isn't free unless you're in lower class and working class
Guess those a pricey down there.. found a turbo 6 speed for under 60k in the USA..
60KUSD is nearly 100K AUD. Americans seem to forget not everyone uses the same currency.
Motive Video hahaha sorry.. guess you should say AUD because you forget that you have viewers from all over the world who do have different currencies.. hence why top gear would always say their currency and then the US currency because they know alot of viewers from the USA as well..
Motive Video and why the snarky remarks man? You will have people who will comment, and my comment wasn’t even malice towards you. Just was stating those are pricey down there forgetting the currency difference.. relax it was a mistake.. not bashing this build or anything.. i was enjoying it until your comment..
manny fresh should have put a smiley face at the end. It’s not meant to be snide. Just something we see online every day.
USA doesn't have federal consumption tax why a carrea is $100000usd without taxes in USA new, but in Australia it $250000aud tax $87000
Kms that high in an auto? Don’t think the deal is as great as you think mate. Also watch out for IMS bearing issue in the 05 year
Everyone on RUclips is a mechanic that can diagnose the car online having never seen it.
Oh, so every Porsche specialist we spoke to and wholesalers we're friends with are all wrong about it being a good deal?
Not feeling those wheels
in USA 2013 911 is $50000usd , the working class affordable???
A brand new top model Toyota Hilux cost more than we paid for this Porsche. Ford Ranger wild track and Raptor cost more. Plenty of those on the road.
Shoulda bought a 996 Turbo and turn up the boost.
asambi69 still too expensive
