Thanks for making this video. We just got a 1978 Porche 911 Targa for $400.00 It only had one owner. We almost got the engine to turn over the first day. I was born the same year and this car is in MUCH better condition than I am. I’m glad you and others have made videos for us to learn from. Thank you for sharing.

My husband helped a friend clean his farm up to sell. The car was in a barn. The friend is the original owner so he gave us all the original paperwork. The car is yellow in color which seems to be rare from what we can tell. It is a 1 in a billion find. We are thrilled to restore it even if it takes a long time.

Glad to see your work and your achievements! Here in Brazil it is very different, even in bad condition these cars are a fortune! For example, the average salary here is equivalent to 400 dollars... What you buy there in a year of work, here takes 15 to 20 years!! That's why I commented that I was happy to see his dream come true... I've loved this brand since I was a child... You forgot to mention that it's an "S" series. It's a beautiful limited Targa including the folding roof. And it's a rather limited generational series color combo!!! Otherwise you did an utterly fantastic job!!! OK!! Now I'm jealous!!! hahahahaa.
Even after following from when you drove out and picked up with family. I've been wondering about if you sent out to a Porsche shop for final tune. After it was smoking like crazy. And how many miles it has. This a really great video series. That car is easily in the $50-$80k range now. Enjoy BUT drive!! cheers
Thanks so much man! Yeah I'm not well versed on my 911 stuff but I was told the color combo and s made it a really rare spec. Its smoking bad because I just fixed a leak that left some oil on the engine to be burned off so I get a new cologne for the next week or two (burnt oil)

Yeah you scored. I inherited mine (1980) from my Dad, and it had been sitting in the garage for 25 years. Cosmetically, pretty good shape. But I’ve got $30k in it already, and a lot of that was just replacing a lot of stuff that was just toast underneath. Not to mention a top-end rebuild due to snapped head studs, a CIS rebuild because that was worn out, etc. The car has under 60k miles on it too.

U deserve it. U may not realize but its Law of Attraction. This car attracted to u cause u wanted one so long and the Universe put it before u with nothing stopping it from becoming yours.
Not only that.. that is a Clean, beautiful Targa, and ive never really been into those, besides wanting to convert one into a Cabriolet, in the late 80's / 90's.. but now, one would never do such a thing to anymore originals like yours. The stance is excellent too, I wonder if you lowered it.
I just found your channel and its the second video of yours i watched.. first was How to make a body kit (your dark red Toyota.. very impressive what u did there, so i checked your channel and came to this video)
I wanted a P911 for 29yrs and got one in 2019 as well (1999 triple black 996 series cabriolet.
I still have and love it .. i bought a blue roller a few months before which needed an engine.
I had no idea the complete black one would come to me, and i planned to mod a different engine into the blue one. I ended up with 2 of them and now regret selling my blue roller one.
This too was Law of Attraction. I started with a nitro powered, black Porsche 996 Gt2 Rc car in 2014 lol.. but again.. i wanted a 911 since 1990 after high school.. but liked them since i was a kid and pops bought me a green Hot wheel toy i picked .. P 911

I got my black one around 9/2019 and have only put around 1200 miles on it, only because after 1000 miles, I like to drive it after i do upgrades, which has been change of fluilds and weight reduction so far.
The weight reduction (to make it more nimble with better power to weight ratio and improve torque of the 3.4 flat 6) is not halfway complete yet, and i want to do quality spark plugs and ignition coils.. then make my own exhaust before i start putting major miles down.
Last mechanical mods i can think of from that point will be a supercharger or turbo and PDK or sequential trans retrofit.
Buddy got one for 8 grand as well about 2-3 years ago, so you still win, lol. His isn't a targa though. Sat under a tarp for about 5-10 years. PO said he wasn't sure why it wouldn't run. They messed with it for a few weeks and ended up being a bad ground. Runs like a champ! Super jealous of your 911! Congrats!

That’s a great price!! But I let a 72 or 73 911t red targa in great condition get away and they only wanted 3500.00 in Jackson, Ms. Horace Slay was selling it on consignment. Was on his lot for many weeks. I actually was riding by when someone was buying it. Just got on Facebook market place. Lots of good stuff! Love the color. Good luck with it.

I would say $8k is likely far from the cheapest, even for a run and drive complete car in comparable condition. While US prices are certainly through the roof, there are many third world countries where cars like this simply can't fetch that high of a price. Where I live now for example you can buy a pretty decent house for $8k USD. Sure, there are a few (911s) selling for more (very optimistically and likely hoping for international buyers) on various market places where I live but there are at least 2 listed for as low as 5k Euro though both are 80's models and not quite as valuable as pre 80's. Given the time of year I would guess the average price for a project car (not pristine examples) is probably in the region of 3-4k Euro.
All that said, congrats! For a US based car that is an absolute steal and even if you did manage to get one cheaper from overseas it would immediately become far more expensive with shipping, taxes and other fees. So... cheapest 911 you can get in/to the US?
Enjoy your dream car, mine is now forever out of reach, amusingly, also a Porsche though I want a Pre-A 356 speedster. Sadly, people pay a fortune for those everywhere as international buyers DO snap them up regardless of what country they are in. To think I could have had one 20 years ago for just $3k, still kicking myself for not jumping on that deal. It was in rough shape and needed a ton of bodywork and I decided to leave it in hopes of finding a better example......

Feel free to check some of my videos…you’ll se a 67 barnfind that I bought a year and a half ago for 5k with an engine that I was able to get running with little effort….but it was very rusty. So now I have (most likely) the cheapest 930 in the country

Congratulations! As you stated 20 years ago it was easier. I thought I had bought the cheapest driver ever in 2001. 1976 911S Targa, yellow, for 3500$. I drove it home from the sale over 300 miles. 10 years later I sold it as it needed paint and engine updating and I thought I had done well selling for 16K, until the crazy prices started….

You probably have a $50k car right now. That was an amazing deal and what happens when people don't take any time to find out what a car is worth before they sell. No doubt some people will think you actually stole it at that price, not in an ironic lucky SOB way, but took advantage of the seller. Personally I don't think it is my job to educate people on what they have, especially since the internet exists.
The seller may not have cared about the crazy prices of today. Maybe or maybe not.
They could have gotten a great deal on it when they acquired it.. enjoyed it and simply passed it along to someone who will appreciate it.

Regarding the claim to the cheapest Porsche 911 in the world that is running and driving, unfortunately someone in the UK bought a 911 996 for 5K (UK pounds) that is 6.6K dollars (ruclips.net/video/7q1Kz92sHdw/видео.html&ab_channel=CrowValleyPorsche) and someone else bought one for 6.5K which was fully running and driving (in UK - flatcapdriver is the youtube channel).
Regardless, enjoy the car! A real bargain given that these are going for crazy money now!

U cannot find such a nice clean Targa as he did easily at all for that price.
He actually paid what they were from 1990 to around 2010 .. with few priced at that till nearly 2015
