    I contacted Walther's customer service office, and spoke directly with them about why this pistol is finicky about ammunition. They acknowledged the problem, and explained why this is so. They then sent me an e-mail attachment, which lists all of the ammunition that this pistol operates best with. This included target ammo and hollow point ammo. For what it's worth, I found on the range that this pistol shoots best with brass case, copper jacketed target ammo (Winchester and Remington were used). It fired 115 grain to 147 grain ammo just fine. No malfunctions. I used 7 or 8 different types of hollow point, in different loads. All did well, from 115 grain to 150.

    I really like that you try multiple brands of ammo in a new handgun. It gives no room for an excuse for a poor performance if a gun does badly, and it’s awesome that you remove that as a possible “reason” for any failures! Thanks for a great Part 2 to this review! I’d definitely have to shoot this before deciding to buy one.

    My wife bought the CCP M2 a few months ago in 2020. She opted for the .380 version because she is petite. 5' 3'', 105#. She runs the Hornady Critical Defense round at 90 grain. Has never had a single malfunction yet. I can't help but think that Walther has maybe changed things in the 2 years since this review. We have also run about 300 rounds of reload ammo through it at 100 grain. Had one failure to eject with the reload ammo. Overall really impressed with the little guy. It is a natural pointing handgun.

    Hi just started and subscribed watching your channel and I really like your feed back and review so far!
    As I stated earlier on your first review first look at the gun, the trigger reset and sights are the not so good for me on this gun. But I still like it.
    As far as the feed issues it does seem to like the higher grain rounds.
    I also discovered since I reload my own that one thing that can cause these feed issues is the over all length of the round. A round that is slightly shorter it’ll have problems with feed and ejections. I discovered this when me and a buddy who also reloads had me try some of his loads. With mine it ate right through them, but his it either had to have a stuck case shucked out or popped in by hand like you were doing to the back of slide! His rounds were slightly shorter than mine I discovered!

    • @GBGuns
      @GBGuns  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you. Yes, overall length, projectile shape, and the energy created all have an impact on feeding. That's why we do the , "What's for Dinner?" test to see what the guns will eat. It's not a pass/fail for the gun or the ammo, just a compatibility check.

    I love mine. I am amazed at how accurate it is. The ergonomics are class leading and the gas blow back system is super super interesting design.

    Great review. The CCP M2 looks like a solid pistol. Walther ergonomics can't be beat and they function perfectly. Anyone complaining about it being ammo picky needs to learn how that piston works as the nature of it, as you clearly stated, is tuned to a specific load and the tolerances are tighter for power than standard pistols. It does look like they fixed a lot of the issues with the original and the takedown is so much better without the tool.
    Side note, I like the new girl (sorry my brain is horrid with names) much better. Her grip and recoil mitigation are impressive. I hope the flinch monster gets his butt kicked though.

    Definitely the best review on the CCP M2 to date from a channel. They definitely tuned it a bit, as the original CCP's had some issues with 115gr and lighter (as expected as 124gr is pretty much the standard 9mm bullet weight in Europe). Wonder if they improved the trigger durability as the original CCP's had some issues where the trigger spring didn't really last that well due to the heat that the CCP produces. I still stand with my belief that the CCP has much more potential in the years to come and hope they keep on improving it, hopefully removing the manual safety and improving it's sensitivity to various ammo loads in years to come.

    I had the M1 and got rid of it and got the M2. I put Tru Glow day night sights on it and it is a good shoot gun and carries well. I really like Walther ergonomics. Federal whit box 115 gr hollow points will run in the gun, but stick in the barrel and make manual ejection almost impossible. I had to use a board on the back sight and put my weight behind it to rack the slide. Other than that I have no issues with the gun and everyone that shots it wants one.

    The best review I have seen so far of the revised CCP. All the other reviews show the gun running perfectly. It is realistic that it will be a bit ammo picky. I will probably get one after the initial rush subsides. The CCP interests me because it is piston delayed like the HK P7.

    One of my first ever hand guns. Used aluminum Cased Federal ammunition (don't remember the weight). Only issue I have with the gun is that I start getting stovepipes practically consistently after about nine magazines (an average range day for me is about twelve because of this problem). I have a feeling it's a combination of fouling and tolerance shifts in the piston as the gun is fired and the metals used heat up. Not sure, but that would be my best guess. And careful where you disassemble the gun that striker cap likes to pop off the spring at the worst times. Had it do it to me at an outdoor range w/ a gravel shooting floor. Thought I lost it. Caused problems at my subsequent range day since I found it, but didn't put it in. totally f'ed up the striker spring. The sights are terrible. The dots just disappear when your sighting down the gun, but you can still use the sights themselves to aim. Just wish that the dots were both brighter and larger.Also, I wish Walther had used the PPQ's sight dovetail dimensions for parts compatibility. It's all fine and dandy to have removable sights if there are actually sight options to replace them, but because of the very slightly smaller dimensions, finding sights for the CCP is a hassle. If they decide to update the gun again, this would be my only request for the M3. Also make it RMR ready. I myself, am too nervous to mill this, and I'm not even sure that the slide can be milled for an RMR due to its tapering profile.
    Despite the issues I have with this gun, considering its primary use will probably be lower than nine magazines (as its a defensive, concealed-carry pistol), it's plenty reliable.I still love the gun and its unique operating system. I kind of hope they do release an M3 variant with an RMR panel (if it's possible). If they do, I'm definitely trading in my M2 gun for the M3. Of course that's assuming they release an M3 version.

    Great in the hand, different trigger, but super accurate for a subcompact. My preferred off-duty carry & back-up gun for the past 5 years. I qualify with no issues during in-service. Love the PPQ as well, but the aftermarket support is terrible for Walther.......Walther you listening?!? More departments would carry the PPQ, but the selection of holsters & after market is terrible; extra mags are too expensive.

    It seem to like high pressure ammo, that has been my experience with my CCPM2. I shoot a lot of different weapons with different trigger setting and this pistol's trigger is good.. Funny thing is that it feels smoother when firing live ammo that in dry fire mode with dummy ammo. Overall it is a great weapon but it is also a matter of taste.

    I would like to see Defensive rounds, like the R.I.P. ammo, Hornaday Critical Defense, ECT. This gun is primarily sold as a concealed carry gun and those are the types of rounds that people will carry. I was nice to see how the different rounds went thru the gun and a very good review, but I don't think it was particularly useful to someone who was going to carry it concealed. I would have never picked any of those rounds for defensive carry. I'm not trying to be negative, I would just like to see a review using the rounds people would actually carry.
    Keep in mind this gun is marketed to people who want a lighter recoil defensive gun who might have trouble racking the slide.

      The Walther Forums have a very extensive thread on ammo sensitivity of the CCP. There are some rounds that definitely work better, and the 124 gr +P rounds apparently are the best for consistent operation. Also apparently the increased powder charge actually increases the 'softcoil' action, decreasing felt recoil.

  • @arunravi4866
    @arunravi4866 5 лет назад +2

    Shooting Impressions or Dinner Test, whatever the name, its about the reliability of the gun with respect to the variety in ammo, all of them going by the same name ""9mm"".
    I always thought Weapon is 25% -Ammo is 25% -Shooter is 25% -Environment is 25%- . As far as i can see You are the only guy who thoroughly deals with the ammo reliability test. And unlike the Steyr M9A1 this is not an Omnivore; ha ha.
    But your test brings out the stark realities avoiding all the hype. personally i feel 5 shots i/o 3 per ammo would be still better. I think if you can add water, sand, fine mud or dirt, slush, freezer cum oven for extreme temp tests, and accidental drop tests, abuse tests, one handed shooting, the reliability test would be almost complete; only drawback the video will run for 20 plus minutes maybe; just my thoughts.
    And Mandy's comments about the reset was on the point. I differ from your opinion about a longer reset for a concealed carry pistol; the shooter has to get used to his/her weapon. Longer reset can cost accuracy.
    About the warm pistol after shooting 30 rounds is something Walther better take care of by using insulating materials; accuracy of a fixed barrel cannot come at a cost; the gun will be useless if it is too hot to even hold. Thanks anyhow for highlighting the gas delayed blowback's limitations.One of a kind video. Hope Walther sees this. Very much wish more people of the shooting community view your videos and benefit from it.

    Problems i found: practically it's a SA, safety is not a decocker, having a round in means you can't decock and double action the striker with the trigger; you can load but not cock, reset is long; shoots low, plastic sights are generic; safety is easy to flip so carrying with one in the chamber can be risky. All gas-operated pistols will be tuned for a certain range of ammo, and 9mm is pretty awful for a manufacturer anymore given the wide variability in loadings. My position is that the CCP shouldn't get a pass on the very kind of failures that the R51 was condemned for. That being said, I don't think either should be condemned for operating the way they are designed to operate. I think that only 124gr NATO spec or better ammo of good quality should be fired in the CCP, and I suspect that once broken in, it will be very reliable.

    You should have run the same tests against a couple of other popular semi-auto pistols, say a Glock and an M&P. There are readers here saying they are about to go out and buy some other brand of pistol because of the couple of failures of the CCP M2 on a couple of oddball loads, in your test. When in fact. The gun they would buy instead, would fare no better!
    Your comment that ONLY gas-delayed pistols need to be tuned for a particular range of loads, is ridiculous. Recoil operated pistols have the exact same limitation!
    No semi-auto pistol will digest every ammo load on the market, especially the very light loads. Same goes for semi-auto shotguns.

    I think this pistol is in a niche that no one was looking for. Lol
    Nice review!

      The niche is new shooters or people with low grip strength, ...or a penchant for oddball designs. The M1 version even has a cult following of sorts over at Walther Forums, despite various problems with the QA and a recall.

      If they improved the reliability over the original, they could move some units. This gun is often a favorite among the ladies. They pick it up and want to take it home because the grip is small-hand friendly.

    Gun gets dirty real quick...

  • @JohnDoeEagle1
    @JohnDoeEagle1 6 лет назад

    The pistol is dirty and not cleaned properly. It's also dry with little to no lube...you can hear the scratching and creaking.
    Tactitard thumbs forward grip which causes malfunctions in and of itself. Also I hope I am not the only one to notice how close you are to blowing your thumb off from being almost even with the muzzle crown of the barrel.
    Operator error on all accounts!

    4:05. It picked up a round and did not recock the striker.
    So the striker was resting on a live round. Not only should this not be possible on any striker fired pistol but this is extremely dangerous as a the pistol could go off if bumped with the striker resting on that primer. Complete and total FAIL

      Who says it was resting on a live round? I also hope you do not own an AR-15 or any other collapsing bolt firearm with a floating firing pin.

    I trust my life every day to a PPS M2. This is a pass for me. I predict that this will be a miserable failure for Walther.

      Wouldn't they have scrapped the CCP altogether if it was a failure instead of issuing an M2 and retiring the M1? The sales of the M1 must have been good enough to merit a redesign. If it addresses the issues of the previous one, it could be a solid beginner gun for a lot of people. I would have liked to see a PPQ style trigger and Ulm do the manufacturing, but you can't have everything I guess. Supposedly this is being released in 380 also. I don't know if that's true or not.

      I wasn't lucky with my CCP nor my PPS M2. Both looked great and ergonomics are really superb but both were garbage reliability wise.

      +The Driver That's understandable for the CCP, but the PPS? What was wrong with that one?

      Multiple FTEs with almost every kind of ammo I had with all three magazines ( LE edition). I am sure Walther would take care of it but I did got fair offer for my Walthers and sold both of them. What is interesting is that month or so later, prices on these really dropped down. Today, you can find online PPS M2 for around $280 and CCP for $250.

      The Driver CCPs still are in the 400 range for M2.
