  • This video is all about my 1999 Cadillac Fleetwood Limited. It is a rare car that has many unique goodies including footrests, wheel skirts, and a stretch of six inches in the rear seat and trunk for extra space. I took a lot of my inspiration for the style of this video from Doug Demuro and Saabkyle04. A huge thank you goes out to my family for helping me make the video as professional as possible. Enjoy!
    Edits:
    There were several things I wanted to mention. First, I apologize for the excessive wind noise. I'm hoping to get a microphone soon which will help with the quality of the sound. Secondly, I forgot to mention in the video that the car also has two visors for each front seat so you can use one to block the sunlight from the windshield and another for the window so you don't have to adjust the visor while going around curves. Very nice attention to detail from Cadillac! And thirdly, the Fleetwood Limited also had a cellular phone option for the back seat.

    For me personally the 99' Cadillac's were the perfect combination of more modern Technology with just a hint of old school.. love this car in Black as well..

      That's a good point! I've always liked the 94-96 Fleetwoods but they really do lack lots of safety features and technology that the 99 Deville's were given. They do have a good mixture of new and old which is perfect for me :) And thank you so much! I think it is the perfect color for this kind of car. Thank you so much for the support and for watching the video, Frederick! It's greatly appreciated!

    I dont care what anyone says, but I belive that the best Cadillacs were the devilles of this time. And the best one of them were the deville concours.

      I have reason to believe that the second gen, Vin 8 L37 in the concours was the highest output version of the Northstar in FWD configuration. The 3rd gen was advertised as 300 hp, but the same torque as Vin Y engines. Although, My DTS performance III did have a much deeper exhaust tone. I don't mind the northstar cars, and anyone who can read an owners manual or turn wrenches can fix them. They really were the last true Cadillacs. The interiors now smell like Chinese leather purses. My Interior in the Concours punched you in the face on a hot summer day like a finely polished baseball glove.

    • @JW_Reviews
      @JW_Reviews  4 года назад +4

      Scott De Grace Was the late 90’s generation of eldorado a rear or front wheel drive car? I think that some trim levels had 300 hp as well, it must have been a relatively quick car considering it probably weighed a good bit less than the Devilles. Also, how do you like your DTS? Would you recommend one over a Deville or Fleetwood of the 90’s? I agree with you! Cadillac has changed a lot over the past two decades. In a way I blame younger generations for forgetting what luxury is supposed to be. Luxury has been confused with performance these days which is why there aren’t true Cadillacs anymore which I think is very sad. And as far as interior smells go this Fleetwood Limited smells better than any other car I’ve ever been in! I always get compliments of how it smells like it’s brand new

      @JW_Reviews  2 года назад

      That's a good question, Bella! That will depend on a lot of things such as if the car is only idling, driving on the highway/city, or outside temperature. Typically, my Fleetwood Limited has a coolant temperature of 196 degrees Fahrenheit. On warm days or when I'm in stop and go traffic it can get as high as 215 or more, but it should never be normally that high. I believe the fan kicks in at 210. James, I enjoyed your v ideo about the 1999 Cadillac Fleetwood Limited.. As a kid, I always wanted a recent vintage Cadilac but coming from a lower middle class family, I didn't see that as a possiboi9lity. Well, about 20 years ago I found my Cadillac, a1999 Cadillac Sedan d 'Ville d' Elegance It has about 30,000 miles on it, painted silver, and was as fully equiped as that modle could be. I have 78,000 miles on it and it drives as smoothly as a car can be. There is an amusing story about the car. I owned a l late model Cimmaron at the time and had no trouble with it. The engine was strong and the stick shift was smooth. It so happened that both cars wouldn't start. one jumped both , left the Cimmeron running is the driveway, and drove the Sedan d' Ville around town for about 30 Minutes. When I returned I pulled the d' Ville into the garage. All of a sudden I heard a massive explosion and when I turned arouns the Cimmaron had tuned into a fiireball. The following day it was towed away and I got $50 for it.

      @@JW_Reviews Hi, James, Wow, your dad's first car is one of my favorites. My dream car would be a 1970 Fleetwood, but some fantasies are best left unfulfilled! Yes, I have had a few Cadillacs. First was a 72 Coupe de Ville my parents gave me in the 80's. Then I bought a '86 Sedan de Ville, then a '92 Sedan de Ville (that was a nice one), then I bought a 2003 De Ville. The '03 was a big disappointment and gave me lots of trouble. That drove me straight into the arms of the Mercedes Benz dealer, where I bought a 2006 E350 that I love and am still driving. Most reliable car I have ever owned ! I also have a '89 560SL (top always down) just for fun. But older Cadillacs are really my passion. If Cadillac ever brought back the long wheelbase, rear-drive Fleetwood, I would have to consider it. You know, of all of the Cadillacs I drove, the 72 Coupe de Ville was the best one! You seem too young to remember a 1969 Fleetwood that your dad had, unless he had this car many years after 1969.

      Martin VonDurante Wow very good! You never know, maybe the right 70 Fleetwood will come along 😃 that’s too bad that the Deville gave you trouble, do you remember how many miles were on it? I bought and resold a 2004 Deville a few months ago and while I had it I loved it. Although it wasn’t the highest trim level Deville it was well loaded and had lots of features that I really liked (such as the cooled seats). It had about 64,000 miles on it and was treated well it’s whole life. And I am also a fan of Mercedes as well, I’d love to have an SL or an S550 someday! Their quality, even back then, was top notch. My dads father bought a late 70’s SL brand new back in the day and it was his summer car. He took great care of it. Our family doesn’t own it anymore but I was fortunate to see it once several years ago. And the 69 Fleetwood was my dads college car. He would drive it back and forth from home to Hillsdale, Michigan all the time. He eventually came across a 78 Fleetwood I believe it was and ended up selling the 69 for it. He has always missed that car and I wish I could have seen it! Whenever we see another 69, which isn’t often, my dad and I always stop to look. It brings back memories for him.

      @@JW_Reviews Hi, James, Well, the 2003 DeVille I had only had 69,000 miles on it when I got rid of it. The warranty was just about to run out on it, and I had had so much trouble with it, that I just wanted to get rid of it. That's when I decided to go the Mercedes route. I have always had a passion for Cadillacs, ever since I've been a teenager. And I really know a lot about the greatest Cadillacs ever, from the 60's and 70's. So I am going to give you my email so that you can contact me directly. It's marvonsf@gmail.com. Get in touch with me. It would be fun to discuss your and my Cadillac adventures one on one. Maybe at some point over the phone. Cheers, Martin

    My Deville Delegance had every option that car has including remote start
    The only difference was the stretch. I also had foot rests in the back floorboard. The security system is all in the stock radios of these cars so adding a DVD player I really had to have some sound shop work done. It was fabulous when finished. I had a set of the gold keys and a set of black covered keys as well. Nice cars but eventually the head bolts pull out. Also all I takes is one time overheating and it's curtains for the engine.

    • @JW_Reviews
      @JW_Reviews  2 года назад +2

      That's very impressive! Is that the '98 that you had? I don't recall GM having remote start at that point in time. We were actually able to add it to this Fleetwood Limited, though, and it's a fantastic feature. Interesting that yours had footrests! Did those come from a Fleetwood Limited? Very true, we are sure to baby this car and maintain it as best as possible. Fortunately no major issues and she's still going very strong after over 140,000 miles!

And although the Fleetwood Limited looks a little strange proportionally compared to a regular Deville, I’ve gotten used to the length and I think it looks better than regular Deville’s. Those look so small and short to me now haha. However, I do like the look of the 93-96 Fleetwoods with the chrome and style of those cars. We actually had a 1996 Fleetwood Limousine which we just sold but I absolutely loved the look of the car! The LT1 engine is phenomenal which was another reason why I like those Fleetwoods so much. Treat that Northstar engine nice. They are notorious for blowing head gaskets without warning. The Northstar engines built before 2000 commonly burned oil, as much as a quart of oil every 500 miles. General Motors brands Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC were among the least reliable in annual Consumer Reports rankings from 1996 to 2003. And General Motors' Cadillac was the least reliable of 30 brands, followed by Alfa Romeo, Acura, Volkswagen and Jeep.
    On the plus side, that's a nice video. Kudos to the guy who made it. :-)

      William Nash I definitely will treat it nicely! The previous owner was an older man who treated it nicely as well but definitely used it a lot when driving occasionally to Florida from Ohio. So far the engine hasn’t had any major issues but I can tell that GM quality wasn’t exactly the best back then. Thank you for the nice compliment and for watching the video 😄

    Great review James! I accidentally stumbled on your channel, but I’m glad I did. I’m now a subscriber. For your information, I’m now retired from GM Canada, where I worked on various assignments for 30 years. I could (and do) talk endlessly about Cadillacs, in particular when I was the Public Relations Manager for all the Canadian GM brands from 1991 to 2000. As for my all time favourite Cadillac, it’s got to be the 1993 Seville STS (1992 + Northstar).
    Anyway, I genuinely enjoyed this review, I’d never even heard of this model. One question, if they used a DeVille as the starting point, which level DeVille interior did they start with? I assume it was the D’Elegance trim? Thanks, and keep up the good work.

    • @kcclark9664
      @kcclark9664 11 месяцев назад

      I've owned three of these. I'm pretty sure they start with standard DeVille interior. I've had two that had seat memory and one that did not. Type of radio is the only other factory option difference I remember. I've been in one that had a sunroof but no clue if it came that way from GM.

    Nice car. GM dropped the Fleetwood Brougham mid model year 1996 not because of falling sales - they could make more money on trucks and SUVs. The Arlington, TX assembly plant was converted to build Suburbans. The '96 Model year was the lowest Sales year for the RWD Fleetwood Brougham because 1) GM discontinued the car mid model year and 2) Banks were charging a much higher interest rate for those cars once they found out it was discontinued. That is what I learned when I was considering trading my '93 in on a 1996 Fleetwood Brougham.The Fleetwood Limited cost $20,000 more than a base Deville - that is why so few were produced. Where would you find body parts for one of these if it was wrecked?

    • @JW_Reviews
      @JW_Reviews  4 года назад

      Kevin Eich thank you Kevin, I didn’t know that! I’m not surprised that they were cancelled to make more money with larger vehicles. The same thing seems to be happening today! The Fleetwood Limited was very expensive for the time. With all the options you could pay at least $15,000 more than a regular Deville. And as far as finding body parts for the Fleetwood Limited, is it extremely difficult to do. Usually when they’re involved in a serious crash or if they’re hit on the sides then it’s usually a total loss just because of how difficult it is to replace the parts. Parts for the Fleetwood Limited rarely show up online and when they do they sell rather quickly. I know several people who have been able to take side skirts and writing tables from wrecked Fleetwood Limiteds and put them in other cars. Getting lucky seems to be the only way to find parts. I’ve always been worried about crashing because it could mean the end of the car!

    • @JW_Reviews

      Good question. When we first bought the car the air compressor would work but it wouldn’t hold the air very well, so we replaced the air bags and we may have bought a new compressor as well. In your case it could very well be a bad relay or air compressor/pump. If you check the owners manual, you can use it to find the relay and check to see if it’s in or needs replacing. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious! Also, if you ever want to consider selling the car someday, even if it’s a few years down the road, please let me know!

    Sure wish I had this car. I have a 1997 Cadillac SLS that my father bought for my mother around 2005 or so, and it had about 86-90,000 miles on it at the time. It has 124,450 now. My mother never took care of it because it was never the right car for her, and she's not mechanically-inclined (her suspension has completely come apart on her 2004 Ford Escape and she doesn't even notice it, despite the fact that it is shockingly loud....). So now the Cadillac needs a bunch of repairs, and it's become an absolute money pit. It's already been in the shop for thousands in repairs just within the past two years, and it still needs a new front wheel bearing (possibly two), new tires, a new antennae, and possibly some work done on the front-end suspension. Not to mention a small hole in the chrome trim of the rear bumper that needs fixing where my mother backed into something, a new rear window, and a new windshield.
    BUT.......compared to the base-model Kia Rio I used to drive, this thing is a Rolls Royce. I love the car; it's very comfortable, the leather inside is pristine and smells amazing and, when it's cleaned up and waxed, with tire polish and chrome wheel cleaner, it looks absolutely gorgeous. I took it to a local Cadillac meet this summer and it turned quite a few heads.
    But it's an $800 car with about $1,000+ worth of work that needs done on it. Not fun. You've really got to maintain these things from the get-go, otherwise you'll spend a long time catching up on costly repairs.
    And knock-on-wood....it seems the bolts holding the head gaskets on haven't failed me. Yet. Cross fingers..... 0_0

I really like those cars! But I apologize for the problems that your mother is having with her Ford Escape, it sounds like she's going to need another car considering how expensive these fixes are. Sounds like it had a rough life!
      I'm sure it is fantastic! The smell of 90's Cadillacs are always fantastic, the Fleetwood Limited is my most favorite smelling car! I think it may even be better than most new car smells. And I'm happy to hear that you take the Cadillac to your local Cadillac meet! I don't see too many good-looking Cadillacs from the 90's and I really appreciate them when I do, I wish more people from my area brought these cars to shows near me!
      I agree, it's much easier to maintain when the work doesn't snowball into a bunch of fixes. It's better to fix them as they come.
      That's fantastic! Mine have held up after 134,000 miles and I'm hoping they'll hold for much longer but we'll see!

      Northstars previous to 1995 were fitted with head bolts that pulled out of the aluminum block. (GM cost-cutting mandated using GM's existing stock of short, fine thread bolts that the Northstar was NOT designed or engineered for. The proper bolts were finally put in for the '95 year onward and solved that problem, but the image of the engine as a crapbasket stuck. They really are fantastic V8s, but not like the old bulletproof Caddy big blocks of old. They need looking after, but if you take care of them they are smooth, efficient, and powerful motors.
