My current watch is the Ticwatch Pro 3 which was bought off the back of your review. It works perfectly still and I'm generally happy with what is still the out of the box experience. I'd say the 5 is worth it for those who just want a good experience out of the box and won't change, but updates, customer service, aftermarket support etc have been awful for me like many others and I can confidently say I won't buy another ticwatch for many, many years

If Google made a direct copy of this and called it's a Pixel Watch Pro (or whatever that would compete to the Ultra), it would fly off the shelves.
Reduce the strap width. Aluminum or Stainless Steel casing. Skin temperature. And incredible battery life because of the second display and large battery.
That'd be a great recipe. Also: here's to hoping the WearOS ecosystem matures to the level of WatchOS is because the Pixel Watch on WearOS feels 2 years behind WatchOS.

I was looking into TicWatches because I wanted a wear OS watch since Samsung abandoned Tizen and I'm not willing to give up 3 day battery for nothing (gf has a wearOS watch and charging it daily is a hassle as it always dies at the most inconvenient moments) and trust is Mobvoi's biggest problem in my opinion. I wanted to get the Pro 5 when they handled wearOS 3 update well for the Pro 3 and they miserably failed to deliver while making promises again and again just to forget about them. Right after the shenanigans when they claimed to use the Wear 4100+ but in reality used the W4100 and a custom co-processor (which is btw the reason they are so late with the wear 3 update).. So how can anyone trust them when they say "your health data is protected" or "the issue will be solved with a future update"? - We can't!

I was in a similar position. Loved the original, upgraded to a TicWatch Pro 3 a couple years ago. The improvements to speed when switching between the LCD and "main" screen alone made it worth it. I am rather tempted by the 5. The battery life looks great, and I can see the colour backlight and crown being damn useful.

The TicWatch Pro 3 was my first smart watch and I loved it. It did all of the fitness stuff I wanted and had really good battery life. Then I made the switch to Apple after my LG V60 died. The TicWatch never quite worked with it and I eventually bought an Apple Watch on sale. That changed my entire view on wearables. The level of integration still blows my mind. The health and fitness stuff is far more accurate and it’s voice dictation is just perfect. My only complaint is the battery life is horrible. I saw this because I really want Googles WearOS to catch up in terms of integration. I don’t particularly like the iPhone but a wearable has become a must have. The Apple Watch just feels light years ahead of anything Google is doing.

Yeah but if they make the update they lose Google Assistant access and wear OS app. It would render the dedicated assistant button completely useless. I don't understand why Google had to screw fossil and movboi like this but it conveniently benefits them and Samsung.
That's what happened to fossil. I honestly don't want the update for that reason. In defense of Movboi not updating wear 3.0. Google has made it so Qualcomm chipsets that make the update cannot access Google Assistant or wear os app. Ticwatch pro 3 ultra (etc ..) has a dedicated assistant button. I would prefer to keep that functionality and not get the new wear 3.0
I think Google has put movboi and fossil in a bad place. When Fossil upgraded wear 3 it lost the assistant functionality/ wear os app. Movboi we'll have the same issue since it's using the same Qualcomm chipset.

Great point here. I've also heard the same about the Assistant being optimized for Exynos but not Snapdragon for Wear OS 3+. Manufacturers won't say it, but recently Google seems not to have been a great partner when it comes to Wear OS.

@@TheMrMobile Yes now in fairness to the critics, movboi has done a pretty bad job of communicating with its customers. (Fossil, contrarily, was very communicative even when discussing the limitations of the update).

It’s a shame: the hardware is the most perfect smartwatch I’ve ever seen. Having the old school display able to access so much of the fitness functionality means you really don’t need to use the power hungry LCD all that much.
Battery life is the biggest reason I stopped using smartwatches, as they become more a hassle than they’re worth (particularly when traveling).
Like what’s the point of being able to store music and bringing it into the gym when after an hour of use tracking fitness and Bluetooth pairing with my headphones, 1/3 or worse 1/2 of the battery life is wiped out? Most of the time I end up using these things purely as wrist notification buzzers because anything else decimates battery.
The software though….oof. I don’t get google. Android is an open platform and that’s why it’s so successful.
It’s like they’re handicapping 3rd party developers just to make Samsung happy. Instead, they should have just partnered with Mobvoi on making the best smartwatch and helped a lot on the software so others can copy.
It’s not like Tizen was catching on lol

Ticwatch 2 and 3 owner here, fossil gen 6 owner. Wear OS 3 crushed the functionality of my fossil. It was nigh unusable and the little bugs and annoyances of wear OS 3 (no assistant, etc) turn me off greatly to any WearOS 3 device. Personally I'm a function over form kinda guy myself and my ticwatch 3 pro is absolutely fantastic. Unless Google gets their crap together and makes their own 1st party apps functional on their own wearOS platform outside of Samsung and pixel devices... I'm fine with the performance of WearOS 2 and that makes my ticwatch 3 the perfect watch for me. The "upgrades" in WearOS 3 were underwhelming or in the case of some of the changes just downright annoying. I highly recommend the Ticwatch Pro 3 but will hold off on the 5 until Google gets is S**t together on WearOS.

I would actually buy this for battery alone. This for me is the only actual smartwarch that can hit an S in my battery life ratings.

Yeah...this was a well balanced review and fair...but I just don't see myself dropping 350.00 for this watch.. it's not a 350.00 watch. I'll wait to see what Samsung does...I hear the rotation bezel is coming back. My Ticwatch pro 3 is still sitting in my jewelry box waiting for an update. I have the Galaxy watch 5 pro and love it ..just wish the rotating bezel was back. But an android watch without that Google Assistant....isn't answering Android watch IMO....

Had a Tic Watch as my first "real" smartwatch (pebble was my first). It was okay at best. It felt like something ordered on wish. Updates were okay, battery was okay....but then againg Im glad I use a pixel watch nowadays. Of course I do wish it had at least a full day of battery charge on screen on, yet I will never go back to cheap looking tech that is just pain in my eyes and that is nowhere as smooth as a pixel watch (with its bad SOC)

Have to agree with you. The original Ticwatch Pro felt...underbaked. A lot of good ideas but without the hardware to pull them off. Switching displays took just long enough to be annoying. Luckily the Ticwatch Pro 3 fixed most of my concerns.

When buying expensive tech you want to know the support is there if something does wrong, with TicWatch it just isnt. Once they have your money they really couldn't care less. A long time ago I wrote to the CEO questioning their business model. Judging by the ever increasing number of online complaints about this company nothing has changed. So buy at your peril!

5 days battery is the best thing I heard in this video, but 7 days is my limit. Especially when battery life is counted in hours instead of days I will never consider them. So I stick with my Huawei Runner GT which does everything as good as any watch. 10 days of battery life is just great.

my gf bought me a tic watch pro 3 gps just because i would just keep talking about it and i have never been happier with a smart watch ( my first being an asus zenwatch 2). I use it every day and even on some long hikes for maps and music. I wish they had a G-shock looking one but I also love the minimalist look. Best android watch I've had. I wish they had a solar screen one.
After upgrading to wear OS 3 the battery is shot, charging is slow and even when it gets up to 100% and you take it off the charger it turns off. You restart the watch and nothing. Mobvoi says there's nothing they can do. And while you can replace the battery you can't buy one like on my Asus watch.
So right now I run an amazfit trex pro 1, but miss android wear. I might get a galaxy classic 6

I honestly miss my Apple Watch. The experience of a well integrated device that could tell the context I wanted to use it in and got regular updates was amazing. But since they don't work with Android, I sold it. So far, all I see is the same as on phones; bloatware, crap that I dont need and only a super tiny community of people even working on alternative OSes - AsteroidOS, in particular. I just hope that there will be an actually usable smartwatch. Because right now, it feels like they are very, very limited...

It's not so much a smart watch as a "Feature Watch" (for lack of a better term), but Casio did announce they're releasing a classic G-Shock that will sync with an Android app to allow basic notifications and text reading. Instantly thought of you lamenting about the last G-Shock you reviewed not living up to the legacy of the old line. Might not be worth a whole video, but figured you might want to check it out for yourself.

If their snapdragon 4100 watches got that Wear OS 3 update with in a timely manner, this would be the Android Watch to beat. People are understandably hesitant with shelling out $350 for this when the Galaxy Watch 6 is coming up.

Ok, i watched it after the premiere as always to avoid the distraction of the chat, this brand somehow looks nice to me, i'm not into fashion but toughness for this kind of device, but i get your point, The design has a lot of value in this market and they didn't take any advantage of it, i also feel the saturated with software the device (I have the E3 and I have disabled a bunch of apps), also the fact that even with the public apologize (on Twitter) about not having older versions updated to 3.5, well so many things, but still I feel this one has potential.
    Great review Sir

Looks like this might be the first wear OS watch to achieve shower to shower battery life. I've taken to setting my Fossil Hybrid on it's charger each time I shower, that's enough to keep it going indefinitely. Most watches charge too slowly and drain to quickly for that to be enough, but once they can achieve that, you can completely stop thinking about charging it, it becomes routine, not a daily chore.
