  • Hey everyone and welcome to Gearblocks! This is an amazing mechanical sandbox featuring all sorts of cool building systems and adjustable parts!
    Snap parts together, resize them, change their materials, paint them, and link their behaviours together. Choose from over 200 parts, including functional mechanical elements such as motors, gears, pulleys, joints, springs, actuators, and much more. Turn, grab and shove your machines and watch the parts physically interact. Jump into the driver's seat and put your vehicles through their paces. Crash and smash your constructions to smithereens. Improve your building skills, or test out your creations, in the tutorial and challenge scenarios. Make rag-dolls from body parts and use them as your custom player character. Mod the game with Lua scripting to create your own custom tools, scenarios, challenges and mini-games. Share your creations with the community, try out what others have made, and maybe learn a new building trick or two along the way!

      I think that GearBlocks seems like a Sandbox with potential, it has alot of functional mechanical elements that even scrap mechanic doesn't have, this would extend the limts of the players creations and allow more complexity.

      Ive been waiting for you to put this one up.
      When I first tried it, I knew this would be for you.
      Its really well done and has the gears and other build features that ScrapMachnic and TrailBlazers doesn't have.
      Considering its just come out and the Developer is still working on it and listening to feedback, it has a lot of potential.
      Thanks Kan

      I think this would 100% be a fun game to build demos and examples of mechanisms that otherwise would have to be built in cad or in real life. I could actually see some use cases for the educational industry too! You could have people learn so much about how mechanics of different mechanisms and how they interact with each other. I’m excited to see where people can take this.

    As an aspiring engineer myself, there's one thing that disappoints me in this game:
    No cables.
    I want to be able wrap a cable around a pully at the top to raise a platform and then uncoil the pully to lower the platform. Essentially a cable elevator. Yes it has pistons but the cool things about cables is they can BEND. Like, around corners. Which helps translate/redirect motion SOOO much easierly. Now granted in real life you dont necessarily want to do it this way because it's sacrificing alot of force but shush. Just give me cable coils that can wrap around pullies and hooks.

    • @Hadeks_Marow
      @Hadeks_Marow 10 месяцев назад +4

      @@jessejarvis3646Nah, I don't blame you.
      I try to refer to it as "loop-hook and coil".
      O-[box]
      The string goes through the hole "O" and allows the string to bend in any direction on all 3 axes. Where as a pully only allows it to bend straight. It's the difference between a hinge joint and a ball-joint in regards to cable pulling.
      Think of it like a fishing pole. You know the thing you have to spin to real the fish in? You are reducing the length of the string. the string first goes up along the pole, then bends down at the top to go towards the water. I want that.
      This would be useful for elevators, cranes, ect. I'm hoping it will be added in a future update.

    • @Hadeks_Marow
      @Hadeks_Marow 10 месяцев назад +6

      @@benjaminfranklin329 keep in mind it doesn't have to actually be rope physics. Just like how the current pullies don't use rope physics. Just like how the Pistons don't use rope physics. From a programming standpoint, it can just be a ball joint piston that is controlled through a wiring connection to a pulley. The rope doesn't have to bend with physics, only it's endpoint connections do.
      The way I see it, you use wiring to connect a pulley to a loop-hook. Now the end of the cable is tied onto that loop-hook. If you connect that loop hook to another loop-hook, the previous loop book is longer tied, but instead the cable is going through the loop and then ball-joint bends to the next loop-hook that you just connected. Then if that loop hook is the last in the chain, it ties itself on. All loop hooks are ball points where as pulleys would be hinged-like where it rotates on an axis.
      The cables would just be solid tubes with end point connections. The length can grow or shrink (like a piston) if the starting point is a pulley. Like how a fishing pole reel works. Only the final segment would shrink.

    • @kANGaming
      @kANGaming  10 месяцев назад +56

      I agree cables would be cool. The game is still under active development and the dev does take suggestions on discord.

    Every time in the video when he says that the building is like the Robocraft building system he actually means it is like the RoboCo system.
    Robocraft is a very rigid grid-based building and doesn't have hinges or bearings (at least the original Robocraft). RoboCo is exactly what he describes in the video.
    This game seems awesome, and it feels a lot like lego-technic which is a very good thing.

      That is a good point but it also uses fuel that expands the pistons. We need to be able to trigger the pistons somehow if they are electrically driven.

      @@kANGaming What I meant is, if you want a "true piston engine" try using the crankshaft with pulleys to rotate the camshaft to trigger something that would move pistons. This also means the variable speed doesn't screw up the timing and lock the engine in one specific rpm range.

    The game looks pretty promising and being able to set up a variety of connections easily is going to help a lot. What I'm really curious about is first up how big a single connected contraption can get before you run into a performance impact, and secondly what kind of scenarios or modes we can expect from this game. For example when looking at Minecraft there's different things to farm, which gives players a reason to make all sorts of contraptions.

    High-end RC don't have a reverse!!!
    having a reverse would add weight or you would need to cut power to have an equal-weight ESC Vs forward only ESC. this is one of the reasons why in RC racing they run forward-only ESC (more power to weight)... also the rule is forward-only in racing (they don't want you to reverse into traffic).

      High-end drift RC still has a reverse. I don't have RC race cars, only crawlers and 1/10 drifters :P

    Return to center I think will happen by itself in a car once you're moving

    Return to center can be done via servo motor. I prefer normal steering as it allows for auto countersteer.

    Aaah a game for tinkering with mechanisms, that's awesome. Closest I feel like we could get so far was with RoboCo but this seems way more practical.

    5:06 as far as I know most automotive transmissions don't use bevels, most now are helical spur gears and I've also seen a split haringbone. Helical gears are quieter but they do make thrust loads.
