Building a Mechanical Go Kart From a Kit Just Like Lego in GearBlocks!

- Hey everyone and welcome to Gearblocks! Today we're building a go kart from one of the kits very similar to Lego! After building the kit we can then take it on a test track and modify it to maximize performance!

What else should we build in GearBlocks?
A 6 speed gearbox
A walschaerts valve gear
tank treads lol test the physic limits
A "simple" CVT would do
A steam loco valve gear & pistons
the reason why you understeer so much is mainly because you don't have a rear differential: go karts have a particular steering geometry that lift the rear wheel on the inside of the turn and allow you to steer more effectively
A kart so big should lose the rear end more often. The cars in game drive on rails unfortunately, do there's no play on that.
With no suspension it's a battle of which end has more traction

Another option is two motors
easy way is just make one wheel free spin on the back
I cant wait to see a possible piston engine, shiftable gearbox, and suspenion build. I love that these building games are creating more micromanagement for the little parts of a vehicle.

People have done shiftable gearboxes the trophy truck u can download has a four speed sequential I have the game on steam. It’s 15$
Tips:
1. You can rotate in three axis with QWEASD. WS controls the axis vertical and perpendicular with the camera ( | ), AD controls the axis horizontal and perpendicular with the camera( --- ), and QE controls the axis paralell to the camera ( O ). Movement works in the same way, with WASD being horizontal movement and QE being vertical movement.
2. You can increase the delete speed in the settings.
3. To help remember which keys to press for which tools, you can make R Rotation and T Translation (I have no idea why they are swapped by default, it makes no sense)
4. The old tractor tutorial makes a piston engine shape without any pistons, instead using electric motors (BOOOO!!!). I would recommend you look at the engine block if you plan to make piston engines in the future. All of the kits are super simple, so you can pretty much do them in any order.
5. You can toggle vehicle invulnerability from the menu you use by holding shift+q on a vehicle. You can also use this menu to turn on or off all parts on the vehicle or delete it.
genuinely glad to see that you can grab specific locations on a piece to move it around
definitely needed a rear differential during those turns but R/C

Maybe you just needed to crouch and look directly at the side in line with it to stick it on there. Seems not so much like you had it grabed from the top, more like it was grabing the center of which ever cubic unit of it you clicked; so maybe the detection for where you're placing it favors vertical connections over side connections and you have to make sure your cursor isn't intersecting any voxels touching the top and bottom faces.

You could try out this game called besiege, it's much fun especially for engine builders

Really liked this one, might check the game out. If you like complicated Lego mechanisms, get one of the supercars, their sequential gearboxes are insane.
A two speed transmission would help the low torque at slower speeds! I might need to get this game it looks really cool.

Speaking of the F1 with suction, would be interesting to see you mod thus with a downwards propeller to SHOVE it onto the ground. Also, modify your gear ratio to be 1:1 maybe? Top speed is now nuts, but the acceleration was pretty bad.
Z coordinate is not up is triggering me all the time watching this game xD i know its correct but for me as a blender user, i am so used to Z is UP

25:19 Sooooooooooo. The physics I learned states that things tend to revolve around the greatest concentration of mass an object has. How massive are these character's heads to send their body with an entire go-kart orbiting around their head?????!!!!!!!
seeing that ingame controller makes me think this would be so fun in VR.
Not enough buttons on the controllers sadly
It seems the kart is using the motor as the brakes so adding something to the front in terms of brakes or another motor might make you stop faster and if you manage to make it AWD it might become better in the exit of a curve with some acceleration
actual breaks, could be cool too, not just relying on the motor to stop you ^^
Great video. if you want your Lego F1 to be like your RC Drift Cars, it's Radio control {2.4ghz}. Remote Control is different, you use it to control TV's, Stereo's etc.
The Scx24 is a great little crawler, but you need to check out the FMS FCX24 Power Wagon.
I've been into rc cars for awhile now and I absolutely love driving these things but it was a complete mindfuck when I realized that I could sell one of my rc cars and buy two go kart frames and brand new motors from just the money I made selling one of my rcs

Rather than going full diff rebuild just split the rear axle so the right side is free spinning
I have the lego technic ford GT on my shelf next to me as i watch this lmao
when i played the tutorial i noticed that you can't really do angles at the front to lift the back tires off the ground when turning (instead of a diff go-karts just lift a tire off the ground). I changed one tire to have a rotation attachment to the axle. that way essentially only one wheel gets power, but they can travel at independent speed from one another. when running around the tutorial island I didn't notice any power imbalances between the tires. i can't wait for the devs to add adjustable angles so that a true go-kart could be made.
just got the game because of you KAN and I cant wait to see what you make next im going to try to learn from what you learn just like scrap mechanic not expecting tutorials or anything but if you discover something or learns something try to give a quick rundown if you can!

Add a dif to that good ole there kart
kAN you rotate parts not only with Shift WASD but also with Shift Q and E to rotate around the third axis. That way you don’t have to fiddle around to find the desired rotation.

I'm envisioning a multiplayer world where you can download massive blueprints with hundreds of parts, where you and your friends can get together and build massive machines. Rube Goldberg machines come to mind. Wait, wait wait wait.....\
This game lloks col, but I think it can learn from the way Gmod's physgun moves objects (with and without angle snapping) and how the toolgun can attach objects (also with and without angle AND grid snapping)

With how "Lego-like" the building is, it's probably fairly easy to copy some lego technic sets.

Gokarts are not a gokart with suspension or diff. Once you add those its a racecar

You should have the s key be brake and x be reverse, that’s how I’ve been doing it and you can adjust the brake force in the function menu of the wheels along with upping the grip of the tyre in both axis. Suspension is a weird one unless you can fit an anti roll bar mechanism in too as they get wobbly. I’ve started playing this game since your first video aha

As a lego collector its astonishing how many people actually collect lego
It’s marketed to everyone, not just kids which is cool. I can’t see a little kid building the latest supercars or motorbikes on their own.

A functional pedal car would be interesting

Another possible solution to the understeer because of the fixed axles is to try to add in some rear wheel steering. Just a small amount would increase your turn in abilities.

You don't have a rear diff.
Diffs in this game are huge for no reason
You need caster angle :D it’ll lift the inside rear tire off and press the outside front tire down, more grip in the front and lifting one of the rear wheel so you don’t need a differential
unfortunately you aren't able to do angles other than 90 so far. i read on steam that they are planning on changing that, but the tests keep breaking the physics
