    My issues with this situation:
    1. SHE IS EXPLOITING THAT CHILD
    2. Shit taking the mom
    3. Seeming like she understands "sleepless nights" after 1 week
    4. The baby shower
    5. She acts like she won't need to reunite the child with their mother

    As someone who struggled heavily with postpartum depression and anxiety this type of content is so harmful for potential moms. It sets such unrealistic expectations of what motherhood looks like, foster or biological mom. She’s making this whole situation about her when it’s about caring for a child who’s home life isn’t safe for them. Truly disgusting. Thank you for speaking up B!

    As a long term foster and now adoptive mom, I agree with so much of what you said here. (And thank you for NOT spreading a child's medical info even for the purpose of snark.) That said, I'm hoping to gently push back on 3 things:
    1. Mom vs Bio mom: this is important because it speaks to mindset. For as long as a child is in care, their mom and dad are mom and dad and foster parents are just that. Using those titles for the parents keeps everyone in the mindset that the parents remain the kids' parents and are the more important figures in the child's life. I found in most circumstances, I could clarify by emphasizing my role "I'm foster mom, X is mom."
    2. The praying thing: from the time we got licensed we started praying for the kids who would be placed with us. It wasn't praying for them to come. It was praying that they would be safe through whatever trauma had to happen for them to come. That said, I wouldn't have posted that verse publicly as it is too easy to misconstrued.
    3. The foster shower: I know this won't be popular, but we had one. My sister wanted to do something to show support. It was close family and best friends only. At that point, we knew our first placement was coming and the gifts ended up being pretty specific to the kids. We hadn't been parents before and while we bought all the basics, it turns out there are a lot of extras that make life easier with preschoolers around. It won't be for everyone, but it worked for us.

It just really sucks that kids get taken out of home for poverty related reasoning and then they get handed to people who get paid to care for the kids, and it's like, why couldn't we give the bio parents the financial support they need in the first place... yes, I'm oversimplifying here but it's part of the picture and it fundamentally doesn't make sense.

    If parents had access to proper food, shelter, healthcare, including mental healthcare, that all people deserve, they would most likely be able to care for their child, so these traumatic separations wouldn’t have to happen, and I think that’s what makes me the most upset about this.

    • @stephaniesaslut12616
      @stephaniesaslut12616 Год назад +5

      I do believe if all people were forwarded all those basic human rights then we all could be decent human beings. If the parents are doing drugs and getting arrested than no they shouldn't be parents atleast in that time of life. After treatment and plans are met then they should be forwarded those parent rights back. (just speaking from experience)

    • @Weatheredstorms1
      @Weatheredstorms1 Год назад +3

      While I totally believe the mental healthcare system is very lacking, in some instances, it’s also a choice as far as doing all of that for the sake of their child. I have two nieces who were adopted from foster care. Both were given services to become great parents. The second child was even reunified with her birth mom. During the court process to determine if the child should be given back the mom told the judge my niece could go and make her own meals in the kitchen. Bear in mind at the time my niece was less than 10 months old when she was making these statements. Still she was returned and the week after she was returned bio mom was leaving her home alone again. And not feeding her. When she was pulled over she had the baby with her. She was drunk and baby was not in a car seat. This was in the mountains and baby could’ve been killed.
      Sometimes doing the best for your kids is a choice. It’s like saying if Brittany Dawn was getting services she could be a good person. Her being the way she is a Choice.

      As a person from the UK, I honestly think that a large minority of people in your country would be so against this extra help to allow a child to be supported at home financially etc. It would be too much like the "socialism / communism" many seem so fearful of. The wealthier countries in the European Union (no longer us, of course, which pains me greatly!) have these programmes which support the birth family financially and with direct caring input. It's not for all cases, obviously, for as we know some 'parents' do not deserve to be able to keep a hamster, but I think it is tragic when families are rent asunder mainly because of poverty. At home support must be better value for money too, but I believe you have too many people in the USA who resent paying for the needs of others. Just look at the respective health-care systems in Germany and the USA, for example.
      Oh, and of course BD and her appalling husband have really shown their selfishness and lack of judgement over this poor infant. She acts as if the baby were an accessory, or a possession. Very sad story.

I didn't have a baby shower with either (pandemic babies) and I honestly didn't want one. People were great and asked if I had a Target/Amazon registry and was sent gifts. Brittany's foster baby shower and online grifting is just.... it just feels icky to me. And I don't exploit my boys. Maybe once in a blue moon I'll post a super cute picture of them on my fb that's private, but I don't post anything that could ever embarrass/hurt them.
    I'd be so effin upset if I ever (God forbid) lost my boys, and their foster mom was exploiting the sh*t out of them on the internet... making content, money, and financially benefitting off of our traumatic situation. I do not know how it is in other states, but I work at an office that provides therapy for DCF cases and end up reading a lot of the case plans and the whole "reconciliation is always the goal" thing makes sense to me. Unless they rushed terminating the parents rights (only done in cases of egregious abuse from what I've seen), then the case plans will often have reconciliation and adoption as concurrent goals. Foster to adopt where I am (FL, so like the WORST state for foster care) foster to adopt works exactly like she described. Wouldn’t want to be adopted by this woman, but that part at least seems to track w my experience w the system here. (Editing to clarify that this is through the state do I don't know how it might be impacted by a private placement company, but unless parental rights have been terminated the reconciliation is always the primary goal, even if DCF is actively trying to prove that a TPR is justified.)

      She has no rights to fight the parent in court from my understanding. I grew up as a foster kid going from in and out of care and reunification. In my state, the parents keep all rights and are still consulted for most things regarding the child and the foster parents have no say. This includes foster parents needing permission to take the kid out of state for things like a vacation, any medical care, even hair cuts when the kids are young. If the parents are unresponsive or the choices they are making are unsafe for the child or it’s an emergency, the decisions about the child go to someone who works for the state called a LAR (legally authorized representative) who will do what is best for the child. Foster parents are there to help reunify the child and parent, not become the parent.

    Foster parents of over 11 years🙋‍♀️. The baby shower was too much. This isnt a celebration to have a child separated from the parents. The part of collecting money and items from other people for when the child is reunified with the parents bothers me so much! As a foster parent the county literally reimburses you for the needs of the child. You get free things often. There is never a financial strain because of the child. There is no reason others should be giving them money. Ive seen this before and i dont agree at all with that. Nothing wrong with people dropping off things or asking if there is anything you need, sometimes thats how people are part of being involved with fostercare if they cant open their home to a child.
    This is a long comment lol I have alot of opinions about how people treat fostercare kids to benefit themselves.

    I have had issue with foster/adoption in this country for a while because when I started learning about the realities of how it works I was horrified. The system often seems to be rigged in favour of wealthy white Christian couples and how *they* want to grow their family or use adoption/foster care as a form of religious conversion and white saviorism of the children. It's not about the kids getting what they need and it's way too easy to exploit them. In some cases, parents of adopted children can even "rehome" them with absolutely ZERO oversight. To say nothing of how the system preys on vulnerable pregnant women and convinces them to sell their baby to a wealthy couple because no one wants to actually help poor families stay together when they could exploit them and buy their babies.

    Being someone who does have experience with foster to adopt, there are very few circumstances in which a newborn is legally free for adoption within the foster system, but also these programs simply mean that you are licensed to adopt, and not necessarily that you are only taking adoptive placements. If you were only licensed to foster, and decided to adopt a child who had been in your care, who became legally free for adoption, at least in my state, you would have to get licensed to adopt. Which is why that program can be helpful if you are considering adoption.

    Not sure if you are a Christian. But judging her is not ok. God put fostering on their hearts. There are children in need of homes. They clearly have the means and a beautiful home and love to give. - as a new mom myself - She’s inspired me to also pray about fostering and helping children in need. It’s a big change. One she is more than clear about. I don’t get an ounce of her “celebrating” for the families going thru hard times.

    Had a lot of thoughts listening to this...For starters the privacy thing. My best friend adopted a baby through a private agency and even though it was not through the foster care system, under her state's laws she still was not legally allowed to show the baby's face on social media until the adoption was finalized, which took several months!
    The donation thing feels weird, too, even if her intentions are good. For one thing, part of the process of becoming approved to be a foster parent is your financial records getting looked at to make sure you'd be able to afford to care for the child(ren) outside of the monthly payment you receive from the state. Maybe it would have been better to redirect her followers to "pay it forward" by donating their items to a charity in their area that helps low income families with baby clothes or other infant supplies so it can help someone who is actually struggling?
    I can say, though, I'll definitely have a learning curve with diapers, etc., whenever I become a parent! :) So I don't fault her for that. I have a nephew and I came into his life when he was 16 or 17 months old, but things like diaper changes or bathing him were always mom and dad's job.

    I think she has absolutely been exploiting this poor child. I hope that there is some strict supervision going on due to her 'influencer' status. My tin foil hat theory is that she and Jordan have not gone through the legal channels to do this and that they had been trolling hospitals and/or areas where unhoused people live looking for someone who was pregnant. I know that sounds horrific but I wouldn't put it past them based on their pattern of behaviour. Thanks and I hope you will keep covering it - BDawn thinks that if she outlasts the 'haters' she will have the last laugh but we are here and are going no where!
