    The way they infantilize him is so cringy and creepy. How you described it as if she rescued a puppy is spot on and it's sooo gross. It's so obvious that they don't actually care about him as a human being; they see him as an object they can use to look good and charitable and like saviors. Grooooosss ugh.

    • @yesterdayitrained
      @yesterdayitrained 2 года назад +6

      I am Christian (Catholic) - and I hate this ‘savior complex’. Catholics are generally very private about their faith. Other, non-Catholic Christians, have tried to force me to verbally “declare” my faith, which I fine very offensive. These are people that literally physically follow me after I have politely and respectfully declined their ‘invitations’.
      My best friend’s mom (when I was in college) greeted me one day with “How is your relationship with Jesus?” My immediate response: none of your freaking business! (that’s not what I said, of course)
      I don’t need her or anyone else to “save” me, and it’s incredibly condescending of them to think I do.

      On the puppy issue -the one they had which was not kept fenced, was injured & they shot him. The comparison is unnerving.

      @@yesterdayitrained as someone who was raised Evangelical and married a Catholic man, Catholics are so much more enjoyable to talk to in general, than strict Evangelicals and Fundamentalist Christians. I can talk to my mother in law about the Bible and doesn't turn into "why aren't you in church?", "how can you celebrate Halloween?", "why can't you speak in tongues?", etc.

    • @yesterdayitrained
      @yesterdayitrained 5 месяцев назад

      @@Mimi-hn6iv Wow! You and I see the exact same thing! My friend was 1 of 8 siblings, and they were not allowed to celebrate Halloween. It was evil. Every decision they made had to include ‘what would God want you to do?’ You weren’t allowed to have your own thoughts or feelings, and your life’s work with saving people from hell. Especially those dang Catholics! Loved your comment, thank you. All my relatives are warm, wonderful people- people you truly want to spend time with. Not the kind that drive you away with their endless badgering!

    As someone with an ex husband who’s an addict, currently incarcerated and could very well end up in a similar position one day to this man - GET OUT OF HERE with thinking you have the right to RECORD yourselves “saving” him. Addicts, the homeless, people being arrested have become so detached from our collective conscious that people forget they have loved ones that could very well be traumatized by seeing that person all over someone else’s social media. Brittany, and the rest of the world, see a “project” and totally forget he’s a person. It’s so gross.
    Edit - thank you for blurring this man’s face and respecting his privacy.

    • @yesterdayitrained
      @yesterdayitrained 2 года назад +3

      Totally agree. They, as inexperienced as they are, don’t even have the right to try to “save” him, IMHO. Find someone who has experience and knows how to help those with addiction issues, hook them up, and put the money in a trust for the guy so it will be used to truly help him, and exit stage right. Making this a public spectacle is so harmful to so many.
      People that truly do God’s work do NOT tell anyone. They just do it. They are not looking for appreciation or admiration- they are truly just trying to help someone.
      So.. when people behave like this- recording this man and making their “good deeds” public- that pretty much means that whatever they are doing, they are doing it for the wrong reasons.

    As someone who has worked with recovering addicts and has had family members struggle with it as well, I'm really irritated at how Brittany and Co trivialize addiction and recovery. She really thought that her and her friends could swoop in and bc she is an influencer, she was going to be able to "fix" this man. Addiction is so complex and not just something you can throw cash at and magically have it fixed. Thank you for taking the time to breakdown this awful situation. She was way over head from the start. A hotel room and an afternoon of go cart rides isn't going to erase the history that got James to this point.

    This gave me déjà vu! Do you think her and her husband possibly heard about that couple that helped the homeless man after he gave the lady his last $20 for gas? they raised like over $300,000 never gave it to him and eventually were charged with a crime. I just have this odd feeling that they saw that story thought that they could raise 300,000+ dollars by helping a homeless man, and since he is an addict, then he could just disappear and they could pretend like they don’t know what happened to James so they’re just gonna “hold” on to all of his money for him. 🙄 these people are sick

    As far as the homeless man situation:
    Matthew 6:1-4
    'Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
    2“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4. so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Nope. Medical is medical. Its separate for a reason. But all reputable detox/rehabs have a leg that focuses on the spiritual aspect. It's a huge aspect of recovery.

    So one of the things you learn about as a Jewish kid in Hebrew School is Maimonides’ Eight Levels of Tzedakah ("tzedakah" translates to giving/charity, and is a considered an essential practice in Jewish faith). It's a very famous and important doctrine that ranks different kinds of giving and ultimately concludes that the most virtuous way one person can give to another is to do so in a way that sets the recipient up to be successful rather than remaining dependent on charity forever, requires sacrifice on the part of the giver, and is designed to benefit the recipient more than it is to bring glory or recognition to the giver. I get that this isn't also part of Brittany Dawn's religious tradition, but I feel like it might be... helpful and relevant for her to consider.

      Is it even a safe idea to give a recovering addict a car? Probably not.
      My husband has a fantastic cousin we love so much, he is an awesome person. I enjoy every minute I spend with this kind, humble, generous, strong, and humorous man. You simply cannot be unhappy in his presence. He has been sober for close to 15 years now.
      We had a car come into our possession unexpectedly, and since his cousin finally got his driver’s license back, we decided we would give it to him. We were happy and exited to do so. Unfortunately, shortly after the car came into our possession, we discovered he had relapsed. Badly. We then decided we could not, in good conscience, give him a vehicle. What if he killed himself- or someone else? We just couldn’t do it. We were both very sad about it, and still are. And at this point, his addiction has gotten so bad, he is no longer responding to our texts or calls (he is not aware that we know he has relapsed, so our communication has just been as usual).
      Well that was hard to type out. But sometimes you have to protect people from themselves.

    Who the f steals a bible from a homeless man?!

    • @yesterdayitrained
      @yesterdayitrained 2 года назад

      What homeless man has a Bible? I don’t mean that in a disparaging way- I mean it in a realistic, logical way. I have never heard of a homeless person having a Bible, unless someone gave it to them on the street. These are people struggling to survive- and they’re not lugging books around.
      I think that detail was completely fabricated.

    Considering this woman and her husband clearly do not have experience with people struggling with addiction, they should NOT have involved themselves to the extent they did. You can’t possibly think that
    a. offering someone rehab will make them immediately jump at the opportunity, and
    b. once you get that person in rehab, it’s all good. That’s just not how it works.
    They may have actually caused this man more harm than good.

    Jesus also instructed us not to let the right hand know what the left hand is doing. Meaning: what are the motives of our good works? Merely to gain the praise of men (like the Pharisees), or to glorify God and love others unpraised, unthanked, and unseen? I get the impression of the former rather than the latter from Brittany and her husband.
