dude, you make excellent videos.. you remind me of the new me, but 10X better... you are doing all the serious stuff i never did.. i enjoy your shows.
i think this subrame "tyrol" job looks easier than a MK6 i did. That had so many bolts, all w different torques. i have a long video on it for the mk6.
aw man.. towards the end.. a metal hammer putting tons of dings in your control arms. next time use a softer mallet.
It's all good they ain't ever coming off lol unless I go tubular one day 😅 I just wanted to go eat at that point I was starved. But hey! Thanks for watching man, hopefully this encourages some suspension mods and such for the folks!
I came here today, again, to watch, after 3 years of watching this and owning an R, I'm finally going to get my mk7.5R sorted, starting with new subframe and control arms, and hopefully a few more mods while I'm at it. I'm not into autoX but I know this golf has some OEM+ potential in terms of, a better handling car is to be had, cheers mate! J
Glad you came by! Thanks for watching! You’ll love this upgrade!
Great content as always. Keep em coming.
Appreciate that buddy! 🤘
Nice video bro, I really appreciate it, now I want to add caster angle to my S3 😍
You should!! It's so worth it!
Hey Bryce, appreciate the video, I do note that at 8:48 you mention the play in the lock kit at that location, my new lock kit and ally subframe even before installing it have about that much so maybe it isnt wear. CHeers man, keep up the good work
Yeah I later found out the 034 kit is made for the aluminum and the Tyrol is mostly for steel. But 034 doesn't use the billet brackets.. so basically gotta mix both kits to tie everything down. But I think the Tyrol kit alone will be good enough for most.
Phenomenal video!!!
Extremely helpful!
Glad it could help!
Curious why did you not support the steering rack when you took off the subframe. I am about to do the front sway and understand that the subframe has to come out for you to get to the sway bar.
How come youndo not run the upper strut bar with front sway bar?
Hey Bryce, thanks for the video again. Any issues with rubbing in the front? You're on 245 section tires yeah?
Thanks!
They're stamped 235 but they run big (cheater tires), no rub!
Excellent video, very detailed and complete. In some cases you were a little to close with the camera so it was hard to get orientation of the parts/areas you were discussing. Thanks for making the vid.
Glad it was helpful!
Just subscribed!...first introduction to the channel...owner of 2 jettas...currently trying to trace down intermittent cruise power loss on 2013 jetta 2.5
Welcome buddy! I don't know much about the 2.5 myself.. but if it's engine realted power loss maybr check out my buddies channel (search: fazed golf R) he's got a 2.5 In his mk6 golf r might be around to help you out!
I think the S3 has the aluminum subframe from the factory... But, i like the video and seeing how it all fits together is useful for when i get the deadset kit and frame stabilizers.
It sure does! Deadset kit is nice man definitely one of my favorite mods? Which stabilizers do you speak of?
Hey bryce,i just bought these aluminum subframe and control arms and ready to put on after seen your video. Just a little tip for you, you probably need to try the whiteline
swaybars and swaybar links, they are really cool stuff and i had them for about a year and it makes the car strong and less body roll when turn in. Anyway, thanks for the instruction on installing.
Front or rear? I have all the rear 034 bits, I have a strut bar up front I was suggested to not run an aftermarket front sway due to that, I most definitely need some adjustable links up front though! Might order those along with their bump steer kit here soon
Bryce Jordan Productions check out the whiteline website for BWK019 and i have installed the kit which includes both front and rear sway bars and sway bar links.

@@xinjin3840 very nice! How do you like it?
Print the template and put it against your wheel and see if it fits. I still have the stock Austin wheels and fits on the OEM offset. I as well am looking on 17” wheels. If you test it than you can let me know if it works. 😬
That is actually a splendid idea.... Thank you!! lol!
You and your fancy lifts. I will need to do this on stands. wooot.
I just did the rear subframe on stands and it wasn't too bad. Font will be much easier then that
hey
at 8.45 did you install it like that? I'm doing the same conversion and the rear sleeves of 034 motorsport wobble as you do. can you install it like this without problems? lg
No problems yet!
Hey Bryce I'm planning to do this subframe upgrade to. Is there any problem with hanging down the steering rack? Should I put in the steering lock that no turning is possible?
Wouldn’t hurt to support it but I never have and we didn’t at the dealership either 🤷🏽♂️ not once had an issue afterwards.
Do you get any sway bar or end-link noises? How about the Tyrol insert with the slop?
Up front with noise? No I don't get any anymore after swapping to adjustable links (034 density+) I did get some pops when turning slow with the links from BC.
Yo very helpful video man. Did you run into issues with the rear dead set collar having play in it ?
Sure did not!
Regarding the subframe swap, do you need to brace or support anything on the top end of the engine? or can this all be done on a lift with trans jack?
No support needed! Motor mounts holder in place it doesn’t touch the subframe
Bryce, did you support the engine from above when you did the subframe? I am going to be doing this myself as well, have the same arms to put on and picking up a take-off subframe, was curious, didnt see any topside support...thanks in advance love the vids!
Nope no need! Engine doesn't rest on the subframe just that dogbone that connects the two together 👌 you're gonna love the upgrade!
@@BryceJordanProductions Awesome thanks for the info!
@@pnrcomps 🤘🤘
great vid! would these brake ducts work on a 2010 MK2 TTS?
Don't see why not
What is the torque spec for lower a arms on aluminum subframe? I assume it is completly different than for steel one as it is also completly different bolt.
I have no idea tbh. Just cranked it down and she's been good 😅 sorry for the horrible answer but I looked myself and couldn't find a spec
So I noticed that the whiteline lower control arms add alot more caster (2.0) compared to the superpro control arms (1.0). I'm wondering if I made a good choice getting the superpro over the whiteline ones? 🤔
Just depends really I guess. I love the amount it gave me (9* total about with whiteline) but with my ride height it destoryed my fender liners lol. Either way it's an improvement. If you wind up wanting more or adjustability look into verklines adjustable front arms.
@@BryceJordanProductions ok that's good to know that means I did make the right choice 🤣 because I'm sitting pretty low myself and I have +35 offset wheels with meaty tires. I had my car lower at first and it was eating up my fender liners so I raised it up a bit. It doesn't rub anymore but I think that +2 caster would give me problems
@@BryceJordanProductions what wheel specs/offset/tire size are you running?
Hey! Nicely done. Do you have to install the spacers that the S3 uses on the rear bolt areas between the chassis and the Subframe? Thanks!
Not that I'm aware of, only special hardware I used was from the tyrol sport deadset kit 🤙
Bryce Jordan Productions Ok cool! Did Tyrolsport say why there is slop on the lower holes? Isn’t that the point of having the kit... to eliminate the slop?
Thanks again!
@@ChrisMadson nope.. I went and checked the site and didn't see anything different for the aluminum vs steel frames 🤷♂️ the fronts locked in well and with those billet brackets I don't think it'll ever move.. it is odd though. I'll dig into that a bit more tonight see if anyone else has a solution or issue with it
Bryce Jordan Productions Thanks! I’m looking to do this Subframe in the near future.
@@ChrisMadson I'll report back to ya if I find anything!
I want to get new control arms on my S3 the stock ones are terrible and make lots of noises going over any bumps. Even after the dealer replacing them once. I am looking at the BFI ones. Do you like BFI and would it be worth it?
I do like BFI but I have no idea how their arms preform. I run whiteline and have nothing bad to say about those.
As for being worth it, do their arms add camber or caster? Also depends on what you are setting the car up for
Bryce Jordan Productions I don’t think they change camber or caster. I don’t track my car anymore and just want OEM+
blackforestindustries.com/collections/mk7-gti-2-0t-tsi-suspension/products/mk7-mqb-control-arms-rs3-solid-rubber-bushings-with-ball-joints
Hey man, excellent content! I just picked up my 7.5R manual, looking at upgrading subframe and control arms. I saw the part number of your subframe is 5Q0199369G, I have found an Audi TT subframe that looks identical(I can't tell the difference just by comparing two photos) and with the part number 3Q0199369E. Any chance you know if this is also suitable for Golf R? Many thanks!
I do believe the TT Frame fits as well as long as it's the mk3 TT. I'd message Paul over at shop dap and have him compare the numbers for ya!
@@BryceJordanProductions much appreciated! The seller said he also has the subframe with the same part number as yours and according to him they're the same thing...maybe it's different batches or something.
@@BryceJordanProductions hi Bryce, I've ordered a pair of Whiteline LCAs and is debating on the subframe. Apart from weight reduction, do you think there is other tangible improvement on handling? Thanks a lot!
@@siyuanzuo3750 I did all that at once, so I can't say specifically for the subframe alone, but it is stiffer and lighter.. it has to equate to something. To me all that together was a pretty noticeable difference! If you got the money I'd say go for it, otherwise spend it on some bushings or a front strut brace (huge difference) or something along those lines (adjustable endlinks once on coils make a big difference too)
@@BryceJordanProductions yeah my tuner told me that weight reduction from swapping the subframe won't make much difference in acceleration etc. I agree with that but since I'm doing the LCAs, subframe bolt collar kits and engine mount anyway so getting the subframe swapped all in once seems logical. Btw how are your bolts on the subframe holding so far? I've read some posts saying the bolts are Torqued-To-Yield and should be one-use only.
Have the bushings in the arms made a lot of noise over the time you’ve used em?
Not a peep yet! Only a few thousand miles on them though
Bryce Jordan Productions glad to hear it thanks!!
What specs are the wheels? How's the handling with 17's?
17x8 et45. They're fantastic!!
Any weight savings over the oem subframe?
Yes sir! I'd don't weight it but I'd say about ten pounds
So that's the Audi RS3 front subframe and control arms?
S3 subframe RS3 ducts, control arms are whiteline everything is in the description 😉
Hey dude , i follow you from france ,i do the same things and my golf 7r , you do a great and insane job ;) how is the feeling with alu subframe and whiteline caster (is KTA252 version ? ) if you don't want have play with S3 subframe mount u can use 034 motorsport kit who fit perfectly ;)
I'm not sure which of the two arms it is sadly. I got the arms used with the subframe, but it definitely added quite the amount of caster and at least .5 camber it feels amazing! I'm using the tyrol kit still but it doesn't exactly fit the aluminum properly.. but it's going to get replaced with verkline sooner then later 🤓 So cool you're in France watching my videos!!!!!! Cheers man!
Salut de Belgique ! Tu as fais la modification ?
Looks like KTA252 based on bush being central. Arms are the same for both types (252/262) but main rear bush is different.
so this is a RS3 subframe swap? and RS3 control arms swap?
S3 subframe RS3 ducts, whiteline arms! Description has links to everything 🤘
The stock sway bar (8V S3) brackets are such a bitch to get back in when installing the 034 kit...subframe looks good, who makes it?
That's OEM! You already have it from the factory for some reason the Audis got aluminum and we got stamped ugly steel lol
@@BryceJordanProductions hmm I was thinking it basically looked the same as mine when I was installing the 034 dogbone mount and inserts yesterday
Yup! Should be exactly the same PN
@@BryceJordanProductions random but you seem like a good person to ask.
For rear/front sway bars, what brand would you go with? S3 is my daily driver so I’m not going too insane OD, stage 2+ maximum.
Been looking into H&R and ABT. Then for coilovers K&W v3. Thoughts?
I'd leave the front stock as it's pretty thick already and is make to make the car understeer.. for the rear you can't go wrong with h&r/034/apr. KWs are definitely nice with it. If you plan on ever tracking the car you'll have to fork out extra for camber plates, or look for coilovers like BC,Fortune auto or EQT that come with camber plates
Why didnt u buy the Varkine tubular one? What is the difference?
Didn't know about it at the time. One of my next bigger buys is going to be verkline front stuff. It's lighter, more rigid and has more adjustability most notably bump steer adjustment
@@BryceJordanProductions makes sense thanx. So do u think its worth investing in both with both front control arms and the rear arm? I dont track it but hit corners hard every day. What do u think? How much lighter is the rear?
Control arms would be worth it especially in the front you can adjust caster, that'll make a huge difference! The rear will too their anti lift/ squat trailing arms are super dope. Control arms too with solid bushings and stuff. I'd definitely consider it!
@@BryceJordanProductions Hey ur the expert here bro I appreciate ur response. I think im gonna order both with front and rear arms since u think it will be a great improvement over stock.
Bro if u had you power steering rack hanging down while your subframe off and your turned your steering wheel could that fuck up your steering ? My steering wheel was bang on straight now is off to left and when u break epc flashes and car turns on its own left and then right . 🥲😂
Uhhhh I don't think so.. I'd re seat the connector clear codes and see if it still does it
@@BryceJordanProductions havent had a look for codes yet just its wiered as was perfect this morming untill now but nothing has changed just 2 bushes. Feel like while i had steering rack hanging down and i turned wheels i fucked somet up with out realising
Nah I don't think that's a guaranted thing but anything is possible
Does your wheel scrape after the control arm mods ?
And is there any drawbacks from the aluminium subframe ?
I am from India and roads here are really fucked up ..... but I would like to get the aluminium subframe if not the control for its increase in caster angle ....
thanks in advance ....
No scrape for me! Absolutely no drawbacks that I can think of, either or are great mods for the track!
Wow bro! I had no clue you also work on this car. Is this your buddies shop letting you do this? Do you do motor work too? I'm going to check more of your vids. Bro. Animal.
As much as I can do I do, I did my clutch, all the suspension, fuel system, turbo swap just about everything I do myself or with a friend! This shop is on the base that I work on, very convenient. They don't charge much and have about 8 bays & all the tools you need!
@@digitalsportsclipstv2018 oh yeah buddy I've done the intercooler swap about 4 times now, from stock to apr to stock (after a blown turbo) then to racingline I have a video on that 😉🤘, honestly the Air Force didn't teach me too too much ive always been the tinker type, started with electronics as a kid then moved onto BMX bikes then eventually to cars. Forums and videos helped me the most over the years. Before this car I had a mk4 R32 and supercharged that (along with a ton of other stuff) in my garage, that car was a beast! Next up is big brakes, few odds and ends with the suspension, lightweight battery, lightweight seats, then move onto some aero bits most likely. I do plan on doing a built head next year just so I can rev out to 8500rpm. If I get lucky and find a whole motor for sale I'll build the head first, then the bottom end on the side and swap it in eventually. I don't plan on going past my current ~500whp on E anytime soon, more then enough power for what I do. My tuner is Frank mabo we tune via eurodyne, I have a pump gas and E tune, no E locally though so I don't get to run that file often
@@BryceJordanProductions My 2 cents as a fan of yours. Keep that stock motor man and build IT. Unless I misunderstood. You know more than me but I hate when people do motor swaps and make frankenstein cars. They are all over the internet. I almost bought the R32 but I have two kids. All cars have their limitations.VW ROCKS. This motor is a monster. Look, nothing is better than that nissan skyline though. I know that. I watch their vids all the time. But let's keep the integrity of this beautiful car.
@@digitalsportsclipstv2018 I want to find a totalled R or GTI and build that motor to swap in, same motor just a spare, that way I can avoid any major downtime and don't have to rush to build, make some quality videos etc. I've never built a motor so idk how it would go down exactly. Maybe collab with a shop and go from there, we'll see! I do love the skylines, but I'm a 2jz kinda guy if we're talking JDM, and the 4g63 as well. Actually named my puppy JZ after the Supra motor lol! I'll have another 32 down the road, I miss the sounds it made so much! Not very convenient for a family I hear ya, im not a big fan of four doors, I wish we had mk7 Rs in 2dr here, Europe stays keeping all the cool stuff lol
@@BryceJordanProductions I had an 89' N/A supra. That was the most beautiful sound ever. That I ever drove. Supra's are straight drag though. I hear you. Well since you don't have kids at least that need to be in your R, why by a sedan and not go Supra ? When that car came out, I lived in California. That Supra stayed wrapped around telephone poles and they stopped selling it my way or people stopped buying it. Like the Viper, it is a drag car. Yep , Europe has the 2-door R AND a sunroof version. But you need that supra. Such a built looking motor stock isn't it? Remember, I had an N/A version and it was Saaaweeet. I couldn't afford the turbo of course.
Since I’m an old timer I understand centrifugal force. After market brake industry fooled everyone into changing the directional veins of the slots and cross drill. If you don’t believe me, look at all the high end cars and the brake rotors they come with. I personally know because my R32 lost all stoping power in the fifth turn on the Nurburgring of the reverse direction. Since I went back to the centrifugal direction. My brakes have been fine. Living in the USA you will never experience brake fade unless you drive on a track. The after marker brake industry knows that. I live in Germany, and drive on the autobahn weekly. Brake fade is real here.
Skip the dogbone insert and get the roceuro brace.
I'll have to pass on that one, I done bought the parts I need lol! I do remember when that came out, very controversial. Are you running it?
@@BryceJordanProductions Mine just got here friday, and I did the turbo inlet/muffler delete and spulen catch can on saturday. I am from Rochester, where they are based, so I know a whole gang of people running them with no issues.
@@traplordsuckabangbangbang4892 Good to know! They're the only ones I've seen that don't allow any movement on the bar it's self.
Hopefully you'll win in dollars 😭, very good videos greetings from cdmx! 🏁
I hope I win some stuff too! Thanks man! 🤘🤘
Try to align the LCAs to the ball joint’s bolts on car jack by yourself. A f*ckn pain in the a$$. 😅
It really is! I definitely suggest having a friend lol
