034 Front Subframe and Dogbone Inserts Audi A3/S3/RS3

- 034 Front Subframe and Dogbone inserts for a 2018 Audi RS3 8V. These components reduce play in the drivetrain to improve shifts and overall handling. The 034 Subframe inserts are a beautiful machined aluminum that not only looks great, but function to tighten up the drivetrain. These are relatively easy to install and we recommend getting an alignment after they are in place. The dogbone insert limits how much the engine/transmission can move between shifts and under heavy load.

Awesome video's props on doing the work yourself . But But But you forgot to give us the after results on how the car feels with all of these mods lol I wait till the end hoping you'll pop up with results after first test drive. Feedback on all these mods would be extremely helpful as well. Thanks
It's our friend's car so we don't always have the time to take it for a test drive! We have driven it since and the handling feels tight and the shifts are more responsive!
Thank you for the feedback though! We will try to work that into our process in the future!
@@HardwayLearning thanks for getting back so quick. I understand a bit better now. I'm on the fence about doing the same mods and wanted to see if it's worth it and if you guys actually felt a difference after locking down the front and rear subframe. Thanks again looking forward to more videos on the RS3. Have a good week man
Another Daddy money channel
I can totally relate to you. I actually wish my Dad had an RS3 too, but instead we spend hours wrenching on this one so we can have a few moments of bliss behind the wheel of this one!
With the bushing insert and dogbone, what’s the NVH like? I just installed one of these in my MK6 a few days ago and it was very smooth. Shifts are insanely smooth. Just ordered it for my RS3 and now Im hoping to have the same result.
It works really well in the RS3, make sure to jack up the car and have the engine unloaded. I did it on ramps with my Mk7 and I had to redo it because it wasn't quite centered. On the RS3 I don't know that I even noticed much of the NVH, but it's been that way for a few years now so we're probably used to it at this point.
@@HardwayLearning I have the same quickjack lift you guys have. Makes life way easier. Ill be doing it when I do my oil change because I’m already under the car with the belly pan off.
Yes it's super handy. I highly recommend pairing the upper and lower dogbone instert. I've heard the lower can bend when it's used alone and you're making too much power 🤘
@@HardwayLearning Mine finally arrived yesterday haha! Got the dogbone, lower, and upper inserts. The install is pretty much the same as on my MK6 aside from how you installed the upper. I will follow how you installed it because I don't feel like disconnecting the sway bar and other stuff just to install the upper insert as specified by 034. I'm just so tired of that engine rocking like a boat lol. Can't wait to see how this thing drives
Nice vid. You two sound like Dennis Quaid and Stephen Hawking
We will have to add that to our resumé!
😵 bye bye torq wrench. That’s what a breaker bar is for.
I initially installed both upper and lower inserts. Couldn’t stand the added NVH though, so took out the upper and left in the lower one.
Best of both worlds in my opinion. I don’t track it or do hard launches, so no issues with bending so far. Probably will end up springing for the puck and eng/trans mounts at some point since I’m stage 2 and almost 60k.
It's interesting, we did the same inserts on our friend's RS3 and there didn't seem to be any NVH. I had NVH issues initially on my GTI, but they went away after I loosened up the mounts and re-torqued after shoving the engine around.
My buddies MK7 4mo sportwagen on the other hand has horrendous NVH even after trying to reset the insert. You have to be incredibly sensitive to how you release the brake.
I'm wondering if my UM TCU tune did some magic to help with NVH
@@HardwayLearning I’ve got a M/T, so maybe a little different variable. I had both inserts in for about 2-3 months. NVH did calm down a bit over that time. But, it was still enough that it degraded enjoyability of daily driving, IMO. With just the lower in, I still get crisper shifts-not as solid as with both. But virtually no NVH with just lower.
Feedback on how it feels now?
It feels significantly smoother and tighter between shifts, it also helped center up our alignment that got screwed up from the subframe bolts coming loose last year (due to our lack of ability to tighten them after the downpipe install)
@@HardwayLearning Any noise from the subframe since this installation? Mine clunks as hell (a3).
@@max3dfx haven't noticed any clunks. Did you use fresh stretch bolts?
@@HardwayLearning Yes, I changed it, but soon later the noises came back. I am now trying to import these fasteners.
Alignment issues?
We went to get it aligned two years afterward and it was dead on, so I don't think it's a problem
Will Hardway Learning be doing any work on 488 GTB's in the future?
That's a good question, we will have to see about that!
How come you guys didn't want to do the dogbone pucks?
I don't think that was offered at the time, I've heard good things about the ECE Dogbone mount though
@@HardwayLearning I want to install either the 034 dogbone mounts or the ECE but I am trying to avoid having to do a subframe alignment.
@@rs3tuber425 I think with any of the puck style mounts you will have to unfortunately, and I guess we did technically drop the subframe for this one as well to get the upper mount in
dont angle with a torque wrench
Agreed!
