  • In this video we cover what a dogbone mount is, why you should look to upgrade it and how we can install the 034 motorsport dogbone upper and lower insert. This applies to MQB vehicles such as the Audi RS3, S3, A3 and VW GTI, and Golf R etc.

    *IMPORTANT* FYI some of the video is mirrored especially under the car. Always remember the saying "lefty loosey, righty tighty" (spinning a bolt or nut to the left to loosen, and to the right to tighten when you're looking at it straight on)

    Very informative and clear. A little edit, it's not nanometer, it's Newton meter.

    This is such a great video explaining how this thing works. 034 sells different dogbone parts than some other manufacturers, and it's really unclear which parts are actually needed when you go to buy them. I was content to buy the upper and lower aluminum pieces but I couldn't tell if they had to be installed with the aftermarket arm and pucks too, which would have rocketed it up in price. Good to know that's not the case, definitely gonna pick this up now! Thanks for this great video, definitely earned a sub!

      I actually only really feel the vibration when going from a stop, as well as when you go into reverse. Aside from that it's not too noticeable in my opinion. Glad the video helped 👍

      Just installed this set up on mine and was thinking the same thing. Added lots of vibration. I just did an entire stage 2+ unitronic set up on my A3 so I’m glad this is what is causing the vibration and not something else 😂

      You're right. I realized after with the front facing camera the video was mirrored. To be fair if someone doesn't know the basics of "lefty loosey, righty tighty" they really shouldn't be working on their own car.

      @@ChampagneS3 You'd think so, but when you've been working on Euro cars for a while, you realise sometimes they'll use a reverse threaded bolt to catch out new players. Some of the pulleys and whatnot. Just a thought anyway, not a criticism. All good.

    Good video, I just subscribed. I was wondering when you jack up the car, do you need to make sure your car is level when installing? I am going to order these soon and wondering if I can drive my car on ramps to install, but wasn't sure if that angle could cause movement of any components that might affect the install once the bolts are removed? I am doing this on an 2016 S3, I imagine torque specs would be the same?

    • @ChampagneS3
      @ChampagneS3  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for the support! You actually don't, I just raised the front and it's fairly easy to shift the transmission a bit forward to line up the bolt, takes very little force. Obviously if you are able to life both back and front you probably won't need to shift anything to line up the bolt, but to be honest my bolts went in very easily. Torque specs will be the same!

    Any extra noise in your build due to this? I had them installed and hear an annoying rattle present up to 60-70mph. Did the shop do something wrong or is this normal?

    • @ChampagneS3
      @ChampagneS3  2 года назад

      Rattle? Not that I've noticed it's more or less more vibration thats introduced. That could probably cause more rattle if you had an existing rattle?

  • @jakefye9805
    @jakefye9805 2 года назад

    I know you said it's best to use new bolts, but in the case of re-using the stock bolts, are the torque specs the same? The install guide for the dogbone mount for my 8P says to reuse the stock bolts and torque to 74lb-ft, but the install guide for the upper insert says to use a new bolt and torque to 96lb-ft +90⁰ like you stated in your video

    • @ChampagneS3
      @ChampagneS3  2 года назад

      If you absolutely have to you can reuse them.. But they are stretch bolts and more or less are meant for 1 time use. When you get the chance try to replace them at some point down the road.

    Maybe a dumb question, but why does the car need to be up on axle stands? Why couldnt i just drive it up onto ramps? This is just a motor mount and not connected to any suspension components, right?

    • @ChampagneS3
      @ChampagneS3  Год назад

      When you have the wheels are against something like ramps, it prevents the movement necessary to get the main dogbone bolt aligned.

    • @Mike-mz9cm
      @Mike-mz9cm Год назад

      @@ChampagneS3 interesting. I don't get that though because yes there will be load on the sway bar, but that doesn't have anything to do with the dogbone. And the subframe cross member shouldnt move or flex. But I'll toss it on stands anyway 👍🏻

    • @ChampagneS3
      @ChampagneS3  Год назад

      @@Mike-mz9cm I actually bought ramps just to do this install and quickly realized the aligning issue when I got down there to bolt it together. When I installed my upper Dogbone mount, and pushed it all the way in, the lower part seems to be a little loose. Do you think the thicker and thinner frame part has to be sandwiched in the rubber? I was thinking the lower mount would sit against the loose thin part and solidify it when the bolt is placed

    • @ChampagneS3
      @ChampagneS3  3 года назад

      I'm not too sure if I follow your explanation. But these inserts are supposed to fit into the empty voids between the rubber in order to make the who component more solid if that makes sense. There's a slot specifically for the upper mount to go.
