Okay to each their own, if the woman with Multiple Sclerosis accepts she has Multiple Sclerosis to the point that she can say she'd adopt a cat with CH so they both can wobble through life together then should be up to her on what's funny about her condition. And as I said forgive me that I laughed at her statement, the thing is; knowing this cat has something close to Multiple Sclerosis. She knows how to take care of cat with a condition that's the feline equivalent of her condition.

What scares me is how some veterinarians are so quick to end a life. Really scary. One of my many rescues was a orange male that I found dying in an alley. I rushed him to a vet where they wanted to put him down. I convinced him to try, and the kitten survived. We had over 13yrs together.

They are simply assassin. Just look at the word they use: euthanasia. It is often a misleading way of saying murder. On the other hand with a human being who is able to communicate exactly his own thought, euthanasia in principle, but with other species I would say no! (except in extreme cases)

That’s incredibly unfair. This cat needed someone like this woman to have any real quality of life, someone to watch after her day and night, as a kitten she needed one-on-one care to learn how to walk and eat. And women like this woman are RARE. Most people pay attention to their pets once or twice a day, they’re basically toys to them. Vets have to make awful choices all the time because of a problem they didn’t cause.

When I first started at the municipal shelter in my city (I'd worked at the private, non-profit previously) I met a kitten that I named Donkey Kong. He was polydactyl, had about 5-6 toes on his front feet, but his metacarpals and radius/ulna were fused, so he had his front paws curled inwards towards each other, and would kind of walk on the outsides of his wrists. But his back feet! He had about twelve toes on each foot, and he constantly stood up like a rabbit, and could actually leap up onto furniture from that squatting posture.
He was euthanized on my day off.
I had noticed that right before my weekend that he'd lost his appetite and was vomiting bile, I think he maybe had a GI blockage from eating trash. I didn't know then what I know now... I should've just taken him home for foster. We did not have an actual foster program at the time.💔

Because there wasn’t a foster parent/owner there to fund what would likely be extremely expensive care. Vets want to save every animal, trust me, but they aren’t doctors. Many of them don’t even make enough to be able to have a pet of their own. They’re poor. When it comes to decisions like this where is the other choice? Where would they get the funding to take care of a disabled cat? They have to go thru this over and over and it’s hell on earth. Putting animals down who may have been able to survive- along with having to witness the effects of cruel and neglectful owners on so many innocent creatures who would be better off out of their hands- is why veterinarians have one of the highest rates of suicide of any profession.

Don’t be mad at the shelter or the vet. They are nonprofits working with very limited funds And staff. They cannot afford the ongoing/specialized care some animals with severe medical conditions require and by holding onto and pouring resources into one animal, that often means saying no to like 20 other pets who could have been transferred in from high kill shelters - those pets are healthy and end up being euthanized due to having nowhere to be sent. So keep that in mind. Saying yes to one animal could mean saying goodbye to many many more. Even kill shelters are doing the best they can. Without them, ALL the stray pets in their community would be euthanized. This woman adopted her which is wonderful, the shelter would have had a very hard time finding another adopter for her. 99% of people will choose a healthy pet over one with a serious medical issue that may cost a fortune to treat and end up passing away early anyway. I know it’s sad. But please don’t take it out on the shelter. The people that start these shelters and work there are very compassionate people who love animals. It’s hard to understand these decisions and to blame them and say it’s not fair and they are evil until you work at one..

The reality is that it can be hard to find someone willing to commit to the level of care needed in more severe cases, so especially given that she was a rescue it is a practical recommendation given how many kittens need adoption every year. Her owners had left her at the vet, unable to pay the bill, so she ended up at the pound. We were there looking for a lost dog, and she put her paw out of the cage and "waved" at me. My husband had already found a kitten he had to have. I took her to the vet and he recommended euthanasia, thinking she'd never heal. I refused, so he gave me meds to help her pee, and I had to clean her rear because she couldn't do it herself. Not too much later, we traveled to my parents' house for Christmas and took the cats with us. I forgot her meds at home, and she never needed them again. She lived for years afterward, usually waking me 30 seconds before the alarm went off in the morning by licking my chin, and waiting by the window for me to get home from work. I've only had shelter or pound cats ever since.

My kitty Luna has Wobbly Kitty, she is a spitfire hilarious baby. She really doesn’t know she’s different. She does make more of a mess with water bowls and kitty litter but she is well worth it. I gave her butt baths as a baby and helped hold her up while she went potty. I would never let her go, I understand this being a foster fail story 🥰 my special needs kitty is the light of my life and brings me so much joy. Like phoebe she is a well adapted fur baby - she can climb onto window sills and up onto the bed to get cuddles. CH Kitties deserve loving homes that will work with their disability ❤️❤️

Indeed. I used to be involved in rescue and had to stop because sadly my heart, to be figurative/metaphysical, couldn't take it anymore. It happens so much more than you know. It seems for every cat that has a loving home, there's 40 that are being abused, neglected, killed, etc. They're the most wonderful beings in earth, so full of love, amd with more personality than many humans. Yet because humans think some man in the sky made them have souls, and the animals don't, we can use and abuse and exploit them. Because they don't matter.

A lot of cats have to be killed just because there are too many. If phoebe was euthanized, another cat may have lived. But since phoebe lived, another cat may have died.
"No kill" shelters and foster organizations can't accept unlimited animals. When they are full, the rest have to go somewhere else, and if there are no beds available, perfectly healthy animals are euthanized. Most animal welfare agencies estimate MILLIONS of healthy dogs and cats in the US are euthanized every year.

@@alpacamale2909 how'd you manage to make the anti-b into gas? Smart and kind! I had an elderly dog w/CHF and made him an oxygen chamber to lessen trips to the Vet's for oxygen treatments. Used a small crate, plastic shower curtain as the wrap, and a $100.00 Oxygenator Machine off CraigsList. Made sure I had some holes to release the carbon dioxide. It helped his discomfort and calmed him. Got the plans off the internet and after my dear little dog passed, I sold it for less, to a human who needed it rather than renting oxygen tanks. What a beautiful soul miss phoebe is. I’m so glad you found each other. I adopted a special needs kitty two years ago at the beginning of the pandemic because I finally didn’t have to commute two hours one way to work and now work permanently from home. I love it. My kitty is the best therapy I ever could imagine. I have had to work hard to train her and make special food for her. She has vision and digestive issues. The thing is she is so trainable. More so than any cat Ive ever had. She is so patient and smart and affectionate. Snd I feel like she has trained me as well. She knows a lot of words but she has specific cries that mean specific things so she’s trained me to understand her needs. Like for food, play time, specific toys, when she’s used her box snd wants me to clean it, when she’s vomited on the area rug snd wants me to clean that too, when she’s done eating snd wants me to clean that area, when she’s bored, when she’s annoyed, when she wants me to pet her snd when she wants me to stop petting her. She has specific cries or signals that are consistent. She’s a very special cat. She’s my buddy snd my cuddle bug. She makes me laugh everyday. Her special needs are barely an issue now except that I can’t leave her with just anyone if I go places so usually she comes with me snd she loves her travel backpack snd exploring new motels or cabins snd love to camp snd check out the critters and cuddle with me in the sleeping bag or under her quilt

@ Cathy Keim. HEAR HEAR. Send that damned vet a link to the video. Vets in the US get COLD and HEARTLESS inside after a few years in practice and in my experience would rather euthanize an animal than spend a little extra time considering the options. Our regular vet is pretty cold inside but better than the next nearest one who took our beautiful gray cat in for a dental. HE OVERDOSED IT ON KETAMINE GA and cared about as much as if he'd lost a half open can of moldy beans. We save cats as much as possible - going on 30 or so and they live in the house with us. We are both very senior citizens and on SS but nobody around here gives a damn - - - oh - - - it's just an animal. Right now we have 16 cats in our home (they are family) and had 3 dogs that all died of old age. Vet fees and food costs kill us but what are you going to do - animals are so special - love is their currency - but they GIVE IT AWAY TO YOU UNCONDITIONALLY.
This story moved us to tears of joy. Thank you for not letting the vet put her down - she is special - not disabled. XX

This video is something that makes my heart so glad. First, it's so wonderful to meet somebody who has given so much and fostered over 50 little lives! Fostering is hard work, it is stressful, and often overlooked. Second, when Phoebe arrived, this family didn't give up and rallied around a beautiful little soul! They were amazing. I love the story and the education that this video imparts. I volunteer with a cat rescue and if I am lucky, some day I can create videos about our waiting-for-home waifs that are even a tenth as nice as these.
But in the end, that Phoebe was supported and now can blossom... that's what matters to me most when I see this video. My heart bursts for her.
