My grandma had a cat exactly like this, who hated every living being, particularly kids, but loved my grandma. However when the cat got really old, around 18 years of age, he switched completely and became the most loveseeking cat ever and would accept pettings and cuddles from everyone. He died at the age of 21.

I find it baffling that one of my older uncles, played with that cat when he was a child (and he is also part of the reason why that cat wasn't fond of kids) and I knew the cat aswell when I was a kid.
It actually had to be euthanized in the end due to some sickness aswell as my grandmother couldn't care for it much due to her own illness. Otherwise the cat would propably have lived even longer!

I adopted the sweetest little orange tabby kitten who had the sniffles. Leads than6 months later he was dying in my arms at the vet. He was very sick and would never get better. So, I planned to wait a year before getting a new pet, but I was lonely after Chester died so I ended up adopting a strange grey and white tabby kitten who doesn't allow me to hold or cuddle with her. She rarely let's me pet her... In fact I will be bitten or scratched if she sees my hands get to close to her. YET.... she sleeps in a little pink cave bed beside my pillow every night, as long as she's not under my covers snuggled up with my legs or feet. She has definitely bonded with me. I feel like her mama. She was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and given Prozac. But it was more traumatic trying to make her take the dumb strawberry flavored medication than it is dealing with her quirks. Although I admit, I sure would love a cat to snuggle with me.

I had a cat like that, she had to take bi polar meds bc she was incredibly affectionate with myself and my sister but hated everyone else and was territorial (which is fine usually) but she would purposefully get herself cornered (by sleeping in closets, hanging out in the high traffic hallway between rooms ect.) and then refuse to move and then would attack. This made like incredibly difficult for other household members to even live in their home. She was getting worse with age. Finally a vet suggested meds and poor cat calmed down and was much more confident and was hanging out on cat trees instead of cornering herself on furniture or small rooms.

My little Olive was just the same. Except with children. She tolerated them all but she even really loved a couple. She had a particular ability to connect to people on the spectrum. One of her best kid friends spent hours of summertimes bonding chatting and sharing time with my Olive…
Kids running back and forth in sopping bathing suits flinging random toy flotsam to and fro…
There they were, a peaceful quiet oasis of their own (sitting together SMACK in the middle of the doorway because that’s where the sunbeam for her to sprawl was best)
    I have some beautiful photos.
I always thanked him for taking the time to appreciate her and loving her. 🦋And I couldn’t say it enough to him and his family “she REALLY loves him!” Lol bc I couldn’t believe their bond. It was unprecedented and beautiful I’ve never seen her like that but with us!

The following has always worked for me - Never be over friendly with a cat that doesn't know you. Don't rush to pat it or pick it up. Acknowledge the cat in a gentle manner so it sees you do it then ignore it. If it wants, the cat will come to you. If it does, some gentle non- intrusive encouragement. If not, no biggy. I've found that within a reasonably short time, I end up with the cat on my lap 😁😁

My friend had a big mean cat, but it never in its life was mean to me and they'd always be surprised by how eager he was to sit on my lap and get pets. I have a cat now that's kind of the same way, it's mostly just pet aggression and the easy way around that is to only pet them where they want, usually the cheeks and chin and absolutely nowhere else, especially not the tummy 😂

    • @elizabeth10392
      @elizabeth10392 Год назад +5

@@John-- That's exactly right 😂 One cat I had ( that could play tiggy with me and loved it) did not love a tummy rub. If he was sitting on me and didn't want any pats or pats in certain places like his tummy, he would give precisely two warnings. A firm paw tap, a firmer paw tap with claws out a bit and, if you were silly enough to keep going, he would then draw blood, jump off and stalk away with his tail well and truly twitching. Was known to follow this up with some dirty looks. I adored that cat. I could wear him as scarf mood permitting. ❣️❣️❣️

He was nice to my dad, and kind of nice to my grandma, but hated everyone else. My dad has told me stories of how he would attack random old ladies, house guests, my grandpa, and even attacked a baby’s head. One time, he stated killing a neighbor’s bunnies, and was shot with a BB gun and disappeared for a month. He even stole my dad’s best friend’s favorite hat once. Eventually, in the early 90s, he went out with a bang, scarring and biting and scratching all of the nurses that were going to “put him to sleep” before he was finally taken down. I would have loved to have met him, and get subsequently attacked by him. My dad still had a single picture of him somewhere (although I have never seen it)

He had kind of a bipolar personality, sometimes he would like to come to us and act all tender and the next moment he was a wild animal. No one outside family could enter the house, because he would instantly attack them violently like a tiger to its prey. If we tried to grab him, he would turn on us instead, leaving us all in blood. The cat I had years ago, beautiful sleek black and white male, in his prime was 10kg (approx 22 lbs). He was huge! A very dominant personality. He would lay on the footpath in front of the house waiting for people to pass by. If they didn't stop to pat him, he'd give their ankle a swipe with his claws. Became quite well known in the neighbourhood. I had to grab him of the road on day. He had forced a car to stop. He wouldn't get off the road. Then proceeded to wander around it. The guy driving thought He was hilarious.
I had to give him mild sedation before going to the vet. He HATED any vet. Would turn into a feral spitting, hissing, screaming, scratching, biting crazy. Usually took vet, 2 assistants and me to get him under control. Always took a few weeks for my wounds to heal. First vet we saw, once the cat was an adult, was very worried about his behaviour.thinking he acted same at home. He never displayed that side of him on his territory. He just hated the vets.🤣

Kudos to kitty's confidence, and a funny situation, but omg that would have me worried sick to know my cat would stop in the middle of the road when there's a car coming. Maybe you mean a small residential street with light traffic, but still. Any time I see an animal in the road I feel very grateful for good eyesight, but worry about what happens when others who don't see as well or aren't paying attention are driving. You're lucky that guy noticed and had a good sense of humor about it. If I saw my cat do that, he'd be supervised outside after that. Maybe on a harness.
I also wanted to say, I do know what you mean about the vet. It's amazing how one could be so shortsighted as to fail to realize that the cat could behave differently at home! Even when you go to the doctor, they know some people have "white coat syndrome" and their BP goes through the roof when they're at the doctor, merely *because* they're at the doctor and stressed about being in a clinical setting. I once had a cat who survived a canine attack and dragged herself back home but was unable to walk properly with her back legs after the attack, and one of the vets had the nerve to suggest that she couldn't walk *before* the attack... because she was overweight. And she wasn't even _that_ overweight, although she weighed more when we first took her in, but had lost some weight as she became more active. She was a big fluffy Maine Coon. They are generally quite large cats. But especially at a time like that, in an emergency, I found the insinuation to be not only absurd, but offensive.

And from Austin. Love, love, love Austin. Lived there for 25 years and moved to Tucson. Why? One of my impulsive decisions before I was fully grown.
Have an all black cat including then nose, the whiskers and paw pads, but the eyes are demandingly bright green.
He is a reject from a druggy family, had his claws removed and was beaten over the head when he bites.
I like to fix broken everythings, so he kept pounding my door to get in, just like a little drum. Well, I did. I now leave the door open about an inch, oiled the sill of the patio door and he uses his nose and head to come in. I blocked the rest of the door with a wooden stick. BUT, surprises are frequent, presents that is. From little snakes, to geckos to whatever he can catch, lands in my bed. The present of the day!

I had the cat that was the exact reverse. King Mo as we called him would greet ANY visitor Human or Animal and then go back to what he was doing. He was so good at greeting that one of my Dad's friends that did NOT like cats would always pet Mo when he visited!

The last "emotional support animal" I owned was a Yorkie, and it was more like I was his "emotional support human". He passed away recently. But thank goodness for Tildy, my 2 yr old Maine Coon cat. She is so intuitive to me and my moods and welfare. She's always been loving, but I recently had a bad three days with my asthma, when I couldn't get the proper medication I needed due to an idiotic hospital E.R., but that's a whole other story. So, during that time, I had to lay in bed and not move, just trying to keep my anxiety to a minimum. Usually, she sleeps on my bed with me, beside me in her 'soft spot' which she knows to stay in (her long fur will trigger my asthma if she snuggles under my chin). So I finally dozed off late one night, and woke up later than usual the next morning, to find her laying scooched up next to me as far as she could get without being in my 'breathing space', which she seems to understand is neccessary. She was just chilling there staring calmly and watchfully at me. She's never done that before, and hasn't since then. And usually, if I'm not up by six or seven in the morning, she will prowl around me meowing and jumping on and off the be to signify her displeasure. She truly is my emotional support helper, calming me down when I'm having anxiety, and coming to me just to be near me, even if I can't pet her because of her long fur that just flies around the room at the slightest touch. We are truly a pair. It's just her and me. She doesn't really like or tolerate anyone else. I rescued her from an apartment parking lot across the street. I and the residents that helped me capture her think that her owners moved and just left her there. She always laid in the same exact spot, like it had been her owner's parking spot. So sad. They could have at least dropped her at a shelter if they couldn't care for her anymore.

we have cats all the time, nowerdays when one dies we get one from the shelter or just rescued.
In my youth we had a very grumpy tomcat, he wanted to be loved, but only to a certain point when you miss it you might got a bite or scratch.
The more cats we had the more its obvious that cats have characters like humans, some are more loving some are more like "leave me alone".

That's what I was saying. Once you get a cat they will love you and you'll get addicted to cats. She's so adorable, her eyes are so green. Like who wouldn't want a cat to just sleep on your chest.

Aww my oldest cat is like her, grumpy😁 I’m also the only one who can pet her and carry her around. She’s not as affectionate like my 2nd cat, but she loves to sleep on my bed. She sometimes give me love bites if I’m lying down before her, meaning I need to move and make room for her🙄😂 She only rubs herself on my leg if she’s hungry and ready to eat.
I got her a month after my dad passed away and now I love her and can’t imagine my life without her❤️
