the point, though, is that it's not good enough to be doing good deeds, your motivations have to be clean, too, otherwise your dark impulses will lead you down a slippery slope into deeds that are wrong. this is the depiction of a gradual slide into darkness, which starts by doing things that can be justified, rationalized away. in this case peter was acting out of a sadistic impulse to make brock suffer, not merely out of a noble impulse to expose the truth. had he been acting from pure motives he would have exposed brock privately and tried to organize some intervention for him, probably by trying to get jameson to save his job. because he acted out of vengeance he prompted brock's own vengeance against him. remember, revenge is a vice, even if our culture often pushes it as a virtue, and what ye sow, ye may also reap.
@@scottmatheson3346 Honestly, it's less revenge and more Peter being genuinely angry enough to oust Brock in public. Without the suit, he would just be less smarmy about it. Brock did something extremely slimey and underhanded by ruining a public image Peter worked so hard to make positive, so it's fitting that someone who revels in such publicity be brought down by being ousted for what he did. And honestly speaking, if more of these things were brought to light rather than done discreetly behind curtains, people would probably think twice before resorting to such means.
@@ma76em49 Spoken true, Eddie has a lot of nerve begging Peter for not exposing him as a fraud when he threw the first punch by making Spider-Man, a genuine, respected hero look like a criminal. You do shitty things like that just to make yourself look good you deserve the consequences that come with it.
@@ma76em49 Aggression can influence your morals though which I think is what Scott was trying to say. The black suit became a drug and he nearly reached a point of no return had he not realized what he's done after hitting Mary Jane.
Peter wasn’t “evil”. Symbiote just realized his inner emotions, the one he suppressed. He always allowed people to walk over him, even though he deserved better. With the symbiosis he got his inner anger out, taking and getting what he actually wanted
Symbiotes does not possess its host to do its bidding, it actually amplifies negative emotions and traits a person has like their inner pride, selfishness, desires, frustrations, confidence and happiness in order for the host to excel and be better...at the cost of morality issues
So essentially it enhanced him by bringing out the worst side of him which just so happened to benefit him because he became stronger more confident and didn’t take shit from anyone anymore
Damn, respect for Jameson. Even though he wants to catch Spider-Man as being a menace, he has standards and doesn't want to do so illegitimately. Instantly firing Brock as well, based.
Not really, he's forced to write a retraction otherwise he is risking the entire reputation of the bugle if someone else where to discover that the photos were fake.
It's funny. Usually when JJJ says you're fired, you know that means "Ok see you tomorrow" but this you can genuinely hear the serious and anger in his voice like, "I better not see your face tomorrow". J.K. Simmons is incredible!

I appreciate that. As a fan of the comic books and of the epic 90s cartoon series, I absolutely loved it!!! Still do. Easily one of my favorite movies ever. During the time, I only heard one negative thing about it; a friend of mine said he thought it was so cheesy seeing Peter Parker dancing around like a John Travolta reject😂
Another thing you can see here is that in the newspaper "Faker Fired", Jameson actually apologises to the public and even Spider-Man for Eddie's bs regarding Spider-Man. Just goes to show that even though Jameson hates Spider-Man, he has lines that he will not cross and he really takes his rules and morals seriously
The Daily Bugle has built a reputation of printing the truth in it's papers, Jameson prides himself on it. Then Eddie Brock comes in and drags it through the mud. Jameson is more then just mad, he's about to explode.
It’s very at core to his character and a lot of the comics show it. JJJ is done best when the writers make him a righteous and passionate, if overzealous, man that has legitimate concerns about Spiderman that are reasonable for someone to have if they lived in that world, didn’t know they’re in a comic book, and didn’t know that Spiderman is the good man that we as readers know Peter to be.
Oooh! what if yes, Brock went to church for ill intentions, and asks smthn which is something ud go to hell for, then intead of God, what he got is Satan (Venom)
One of the most underrated moments of this scene is that Jonah is so furious with Eddie’s forged photos that the force he slams them onto his desk is loud AND fast enough to sound like the crack of a whip. He was _irate_ in that moment and yet in the next we he was able to level himself to tell Brock he was fired.
I respect that even though JJJ hates Spiderman, he would never willingly accuse him of something he didn't do. EDIT: This was legit one of the stupidest comments I've ever written.
Wait! Didn’t he have a paper in spider man 2 saying doc ock and spider man rob bank? I’m pretty sure he did. Funny he fires brock for lying but he lied himself.
I love how Jameson's anger in this scene is nothing like how it was when he'd yell at Peter or Spider-Man or whatever. Like, there you could tell it was just "fun anger"-that's just the way he talks-but here, you could tell he was so furious he was about to SNAP.
Also his bluntness. The way he barely speaks at first, like he can't believe it. He's usually furious at Parker's "incompetence", but now someone he knew possibly hurt the Bugle' reputation and he has to fix it. No insults, no tirades, just "get out of my building" Love the writing and Simmons's acting

I absolutely love the tiny detail at 1:08 While calling Eddie out, the symbiote actually wants Peter to beat the crap out of him while he does it. But Peter caresses his chest like he's calming it down or telling it to save that for later. And he actually does it a few seconds later, by pushing him against a wall for his arrogance.
I love how Jameson is far more subtle with his anger here. He’s always yelling and insulting people and being ticked off on a whim, but here he sounds far slower and more coherent, perhaps this is what he’s like when he’s truly angry.
J Ygb Not in his face maybe, but his voice initially. He may have been furious, but until pressed, his voice was very quiet, despite having more rage in it than usual.
I think its because this is a more serious case which wouldve affected thier company's name for a fake news. So he had to act professional when he ball sacked Eddie.
JJJ is secretly a good guy in the trilogy. When the Green Goblin asked about Peter JJJ lied and said the photos come in the mail. He put himself in danger to protect his photographer. Now he shows he's not willing to lie to bring down Spiderman.
That's because Jameson has journalistic integrity. Yeah he wants to discredit Spidey but he won't resort to lying. I recommend watching Spider-Man TAS for more. There were alot of episodes that really shone a light on his character.
I love how understated JJ’s order for Brock to pack his stuff and get out is. When a man known for shouting most of his words at people goes quiet like that, you are completely and utterly screwed.

The symbiote was supposed to make Peter act all evil, but everything he did here was completely justified
I think it was just the way he did it though
the point, though, is that it's not good enough to be doing good deeds, your motivations have to be clean, too, otherwise your dark impulses will lead you down a slippery slope into deeds that are wrong. this is the depiction of a gradual slide into darkness, which starts by doing things that can be justified, rationalized away. in this case peter was acting out of a sadistic impulse to make brock suffer, not merely out of a noble impulse to expose the truth. had he been acting from pure motives he would have exposed brock privately and tried to organize some intervention for him, probably by trying to get jameson to save his job. because he acted out of vengeance he prompted brock's own vengeance against him. remember, revenge is a vice, even if our culture often pushes it as a virtue, and what ye sow, ye may also reap.
Like if normal Peter was in that Jazz bar, he wouldn't have tried to provoke Mary Jane into envy and then get into a fight with the bouncers and stuff. Peter wasn’t “evil”. Symbiote just realized his inner emotions, the one he suppressed. He always allowed people to walk over him, even though he deserved better. With the symbiosis he got his inner anger out, taking and getting what he actually wanted
Yep the Venom Symbiote is more chaotic neutral than evil.
Strong focus on what i want
Symbiotes does not possess its host to do its bidding, it actually amplifies negative emotions and traits a person has like their inner pride, selfishness, desires, frustrations, confidence and happiness in order for the host to excel and be better...at the cost of morality issues
So essentially it enhanced him by bringing out the worst side of him which just so happened to benefit him because he became stronger more confident and didn’t take shit from anyone anymore
Makes sense

Today, the Bugle discovered this image had been secretly "doctored" by ex-Bugle photographer Eddie Brock who submitted the image to the paper as authentic. "This is deeply regrettable," said Daily Bugle Editor In Chief J. JonahJameson. Brock was promptly fired the moment the forgery came to light, he added. "There is no evidence that Spider-Man was involved in the bank robbery and the Bugle apologized for any implication of his wrong doing in the matter," Jameson said. "To airbrush Spider-Man into any photo-graph and make it look like he's a criminal--that's just something we would never do here at the Bugle." "
yes I did just pause the video so that I could type all of that.
Hero
Wow good job bro
Doing god's work
You deserve a like man !!
“That’s just something we would never do here at the Bugle” JJ what a hypocrite 😂
Eddie: When are you gonna give a guy a break?
Peter: You want a break, have a Kit-Kat.

Peter did the right thing by exposing Eddie’s photo is a fake. Honestly, I would have done the same thing Peter did if my pictures were photoshopped.
Yeah and even worse that Eddie is tarnishing his reputation as Spider-Man for a crime he knows he didn't do.
Poor Eddie Brocks.
I love how all the things the movie thinks Peter does wrong is actually just the sensible choice
I didn't thought many people are still watching this scene like me😂
Yeah I don't understand how normal Peter would have acted any different to this
Also when he ask jameson to double the money. Peter deserves it
Slamming his coworker into a glass frame is totally the sensible choice, yeah
@@mothweb8088 Definitely not that part, but for the rest, Brock certainly deserved some dirt in his eye
Legends say that Brock is still trying to get the dirt out from his eyes over 14 years later
Judging by Nick Fury’s experience, it will still take Brock many more years from now to get it all out.
No. Because Venom is now back. And now Spuder is his snack.
He's dead
@@dripkidd8572 Prove it.
😂
Peter: "You want forgiveness? Get Religion"
Eddie: "Pizza Time?"
Peter: "Nevermind"
*PIZZA TIME INTENSIFIES*
You want forgiveness? Pizza time
There will be no more pizza time for you Brock!
@@miguelle4756 so cringe bro..
"Gooooo"
2:13 the look on Jameson’s face 😂😂😂
"You want forgiveness get religion" most underrated line in the movie.
you like your own comment cringe
@@capybara9521 Ah yes with his 80+ alt accounts
Edit: damn his comment blew up lol
That’s what he did, which resulted in him becoming Venom
@@capybara9521 i gave the only like you're Probably gonna get.
Yeah! Sadly, many movies nowadays don’t have meme potential. Just ask MCU films.
Jokes aside, this movie made me feel so badass as a kid.
😂 why dude tell me your story
Yeah dude
i need to know what happened
I guess we will never find out...
He made his mom pregnant thats why he felt badass
Enjoy the story
“I have a 9 year old daughter, looks up to Spider-Man. Who’s she going to look up to now?”
How about you man? Lmaoo
Spider-Man is the only role model NYC has can you blame them their city is cesspool of crime and corruption they can't even be a role model for their children.
Agreed. Parents should be their kids heroes
@@BigFella117 lol only if the kids want them to be their heros. I love my parents to death but I'm not gonna go around praising them when spiderman is real.
@@fatty1040 yeah that is true
