Is this your last chance to buy a cayman for a reasonable price? Lets be honest here, no one can predict the future and past price behavior is no guarantee for future price behavior.
Having said that, I think that cayman bottoming cards are strong. YoY price decreases are much smaller than the market average. Caymans decreased less when the market tanked, and recovered better when the market returned to more normal depreciation rates. On top of this comes that they still seem to be extremely popular, we saw that they are selling relatively quickly.

The other day, someone in a Porsche Taycan drove past me, and I didn’t hear a sound. It was really sad. I decided to buy a 981 Cayman S over the weekend. The look in my son’s face when he heard the sound of the flat 6 3.4 L for the first time, was priceless!! This is what driving a Porsche is all about. These beauties will hold their value.

I have been watching 981 prices for almost 18 months, and this is the lowest they have been. Thanks for the consistent updates, I am ready for the winter season to shake things up more.
Which country have you been observing?
Same here. Though it might have been 20 months for me at this point.
First of all, the asking prices don't seem reliable at all right now.
From what I'm hearing everything's selling much lower than advertised.
And I think the next year will bring further price decreases. The effect from raised interest rates has only recently been factoring into the markets. I expect demand to decrease further over the next 12 to 18 months.
@@barbarusbloodshed6347same, rates are only just hitting assets, the stock market has already rallied and falling back. Cash is king at there isn't much around when mortgages are about to triple. Think we have 12 months of this
I agree, current price are interesting but very low inventories.
@@ed5616 they are all so old now, you can get a gr86 with a 10 year warranty for £30k
981s are amazingly priced right now. Especially GTS. I've driven almost every modern day Porsche outside of a 918 and 911R and 911S/T type of special one offs. I can say 981 GTS (for the money esp) is the most Porsche experience ever.
It feels like what air cooled 911s used to be about (but still different in its unique way such as engine position). Like a spiritual successor
But, the 981 S is really the same as the GTS and the base is plenty fast for the road...and the 987.2 is even cheaper and faster...etc
@@Jay-xr3sb true the S is close, but the GTS adds many more driver-focused options. Add to that the extra radiator and different front fascia is enough to sway many people.
What do you prefer about the 981 GTS better than the 982 GTS 4.0?
@@Rockit181 I've not driven a 982 GTS 4.0, but I have driven a 718 Spyder and I have a 981 GTS. The 4.0 obviously has more power (in GTS or Spyder trim), and it has more power everywhere. However in stock form, the engine doesn't have as much character and it really needs headers or an exhaust to wake it up. Also the 4.0 motors make this weird ticking noise at idle that drives me nuts. Outside of that much of the running gear between the cars is similar. I'd imagine the clutch and steering on the 982 GTS feels like the Spyder, which was ridiculously light compared to my 981 GTS, which is not a bad thing.
when I bought my 987.2 S in 2017 I told myself I wouldn't get attached to it. But I love the car and it may be worth keeping, even at 90k miles.
Man… I really got lucky purchasing my 981 Cayman S years ago. I bought it with 2,000 miles for 63,000 in 2014…. It’s only lost about 23,000 in value over 9 years - amazing. Best car I’ve ever owned as well, aside from it’s value
Just bought a 987.1 S, my favorite on styling and the flat 6 sounds amazing! Manual transmissions are getting harder to find along with hydraulic steering.
Been watching 981 (Boxster and Cayman) in Canada for the last year and they are already on the rise here. Last year there were a few '14 Caymans under $53k CAD country wide, now only ones which look dreadful in photos and sky high mileage. I'd say a 5-7k increase. Waiting for some money, and alas I may have missed the boat
I'm in the same boat as you, waiting for a bit more cash to hit the account before I go to my local Porsche dealer. Best of luck getting your 981!
When will you make a video for the EU market?
Beginning of 2024
Looking forward to it!@@fourwheeltrader
@@fourwheeltrader 🙏
For what market are your videos? In my country you cannot get one cayman and the prices for the used ones are almost the double, it’s preferable to buy a new 911 base model
US market. Other markets will be added later.
Winter is coming boys! 🥶
I'm ready to pull the trigger on a nice 981 S or GTS 😋
DO IT 😁
I’m new to this market. What is it about winter? Do prices drop historically this time of year?
Great to hear :D. I just landed my 987.2 2.9 6MT. Good luck to the rest of you hunting!
I own a 2017 718 Boxster base so how does this compare to the cayman? Thanks for the comprehensive analysis
Thanks for the update!! Bought my car with the thesis that it would be averse to depreciation and so far that’s panning out 🤘
My 2016 flat 6 manual should hold great value
Love all your market reports! It’s been about 6 mos since you did the last Huracan market report and looking forward to an updated market report on the Huracan.
Amazing...this is what I've been looking for. Still can't decide to pull the trigger on a 986/987.1 Boxster/Cayman, but will decide soon.
Can you do an analysis on the E92 M3?
Aloha, i love my 981, i bought during c19. 32k and i didn't even see it until i got it shipped in. It's a perfect dark metallic blue 🤙, i just love driving it...looking back at it parked
I really want to sell my 987S and get a 981S but it needs to be a 6 speed. The market is almost non existent but I do think the prices have come down after watching for a while.
I love my 2018 caymen MT Woth pasm and sports chrono. Great car the 2.0 liter engine is more then enough for the area I’m in I just keep it in the upper rpm range and let it rip lol
Can you do a video on mini gp1,gp2 and gp3?
Great info! Always enjoy seeing it. Surprised how many 991s there are compared to Caymans. Felt like the opposite in my experience, but that may be because I was looking specifically for manual coupe 991.1, which are incredibly hard to find!
Same. I’m blown away how many more 911 in general there are than caymans…. I don’t think many realize how damn good the cayman is until they drive one.
About to pull the trigger on a 18' Cayman GTS 2.5L with 24,000km at $82k CAD or in conversion approximately 15,000 miles at $60k USD. Wondering if can provide thoughts on this pricing assuming its in excellent condition
Looking forward to your next Boxster update 🙂
Love my 981 gt4 great car best sound . Great value both it mar last yr
Tangentially: over/under on how many years the 'all electric' sticks around? I'd give even odds on 10 for any given model. Why? Perhaps because those inside the major car makers know that all involved in this 'transition'--manufacturers, energy producers, policy makers, etc, that is, ALL--know full well it's a total impossibility/guaranteed failure for literally dozens of reasons, i.e.--sourcing battery raw materials (cost, scarcity, horrific miner working conditions, environmental disaster that such mining creates), grid infrastructure, energy capacity, energy cost, battery hazardous waste disposal, etc. etc.--and already have plans in place to 're-transition' back to internal combustion powered vehicles. Speaking hypothetically, and simply as entertainment, of course!
Man, hope you’re right!
I love this very courageous post! Your username has probably been passed onto the DOJ by RUclips. But you’re right on the money.
People will look back on EV madness as one of the best (worst) examples of politburo-style central planning ever - the misallocation of scarce resources by very inefficient (i.e., imbecilic) politicians instead of the very efficient free market.
Can you do an updated Porsche Macan analysis?
My 718S is looking good.
Do one on aventadors, buying one tomorrow
Just ordered one of the very last new Caymans ever. I hope it will retain its value nicely, although it is not that important, since I want to keep the car forever. Still sad an amazing platform dies the EV-death.
Which model did you go for?
Same, Mine comes in 2 months. I'm so excited.
My ‘24 GTS 4.0 came a month ago. EV Madness should render it a treasure. :)
What’s happening is the same when wristbands watches went quartz now everyone wants a Rolex or a mechanical watch again
LOL do you live in a cave? This is the case for 10 years
Can we get a video on the gt4 rs?
Here you can see the GT4 RS price trend: ruclips.net/video/adZjqCp0jt8/видео.htmlsi=cORa3VJO11MdDk7a
I will update it in the next Cayman/GT4 video.
@fourwheeltrader ooo sweet missed this. Thanks mate!
Porsche Cayman Black Edition? Based on Cayman R.
987 Boxster Spyder 👍🏻
We have different definitions of a "reasonable price"
Speculate to accumulate.
First.2
Porsche will absolutely die w all electric ( less 911)
Why?
Because Porsche people are different. Used ice cars will skyrocket.
Nonsense. Macans and Cayennes are their bestsellers.
Taycans are also pretty popular.
The "Porsche people" make up only a very small part of the Porsche owners.
Porsche has changed from a sports car brand into a "luxury brand".
And that happened a while ago. That's not new.
Nowadays Porsches are seen as luxury items, sports cars isn't the first thing most people think about when they hear "Porsche".
Which is sad, but true.
Anyway, Porsche going electric won't mean less sales. They'll find enough people who'd buy whatever car they make as long as the Porsche logo is on there.
And to think that all ICE cars automatically become some kind of collector's item when EVs have taken over is nuts.
When that day comes there's a whole new generation of buyers who have never driven an ICE car and see them as slow, primitive dinosaurs.
That means the crowd interested in ICE cars is gonna shrink over time. Demand's gonna go down, not up.
@@barbarusbloodshed6347 I believe that's true for the SUVs and maybe the Taycans. But other than California, no other state is set up for EVs yet
I don't think so, the transition will be harder than we thing. The cayman has always been in the 911 shadow, both owners and porsche have ensured that.
There are so many 911's out there and they will always command a premium over the cayman.
This model is accessible and a great car but even the gr86 with a 10 year guarantee appeals more than a 10-15 year old base cayman.
Its the car you own for 2 summers or until your first kid arrives
I agree based on my findings as well. I had a 981S Boxster until a moron ran a red light and hit me passenger side and insurance totaled 2 years ago. It took me almost 2 years searching to replace. I was able to source a one owner car , dealer serviced with 26K miles. The only thing it did not have was ass cooled seats. Try finding one with similar provenance, sport design steering wheel, 20” Carrera S wheels in platinum color, sport chrono, park assist front rear, Dynamic Light System, PDK, 14 way sport design seats, factory sport exhaust , X73 factory lowered suspension. Here in the United States a unicorn. As the car model goes full tree hugger I am happy with my 3.4 Porsche motor. As it cracks and pops nothing like it. Just stay clear of oriental drivers 😂😂😂 cheers.
Any need for the racist remark at the end?
@@Jay-xr3sb facts are racist today?
@@WFORacer to stay clear of a bad driver that hit you, fine. To steer clear of anyone from a certain part of the world driving a car is daft and narrow minded, where is the fact in that comment?
@@Jay-xr3sb I hunt with law enforcement guys, they provide the details they encounter. On my local freeways if I encounter a slow driver or one who does not use turn signals normally a Asian. Not getting into a sword fight with you but that is what I see. Old joke in my area. What does a virgin and a Asian woman’s turn signal in her BMW have in common? Both have never been touched. In fact the cartoon on TV Family Guy did this joke. Bless Your Heart.
@@Jay-xr3sb I live in the United States, our constitution allows citizens to have guns. The interesting part of your comment is something I hear all the time. Never judge a body of people for the act of one. After 9/11 the media pushed hard don’t judge all Muslims for the acts of a few, but as a example it’s estimated 1.2 billion Muslims worldwide. If 18% are radicals that means we need to be vigilant concerning 180 to 300 million who want to destroy western civilization. In my country if one mentally unstable person does a so called mass shooting all gun owners are blamed. Keep in mind we own 400 million guns and trillions of rounds of ammunition for relatively low amount of mass shooters. So based on my first hand experience I will lump all Asian drivers as very poor. You don’t have to.
Fully electic, how F ing sad!!! Did porsche gain their reputation on being an electric car company? NO!!! make some EVs but they should reject this FORCED total EV BS!
Well of course. The AMG GT C is boring as hell to drive. 981 Caymans are so good right now

No thanks, don't like them..... get a 911.
you haven't even driven either
@@saintluorent4915exactly. It is impossible to drive a cayman, and say you don’t like it. Seriously
