    People underestimate Haymitch because he's a drunk. But 1: He won his games by using the capitols creation against them. 2: He had a deep understanding of the Capitol, Snow and games. He made sure the sponsors would like Katniss (miracle worker) He got her out of there TWICE. Not forgetting the first time he got both his tributes out. And ofc everything and everyone he got involved with the rebellion. Haymitch is in my opinion one of the most underrated heroes of the rebellion. I will ALWAYS love this character.

      @bakedpotato1717 7 месяцев назад +5

      “Miracle worker” lmaoo
      That alone goes to show you Haymitch’s social skill! Being charismatic yourself is one thing, turning an easily hate-able character into someone worth sponsoring is a whole mother level of skill!!

      Another thing of note is how he uses his drunk ness to his advantage. Take the first book after katniss' volunteers and the district does the 3 finger salute to her. He falls off the stage after pulling attention onto him.

    Your usage of the words children for the tributes was very sobering and I very much appreciated it. It is very easy to forget that they are just kids.

    I just realized all of the Lucy gray theorys about her being alma coin are wrong because according to Haymitch she died the year after Haymitch’s games

    • @TheGeekApprentice
      @TheGeekApprentice  7 месяцев назад +12

      Well yes and no. I mean, I always thought the theory was baseless, but not because of that. Based on the prequel, we know Lucy Gray disappeared. No idea if she’s dead or alive. And personality wise, absolutely nothing like Coin. All those theories are based on fan imagination and nothing of substance.
      I don’t recall Haymitch talking about the other victor. If he did, then I messed up in the video and that’s a totally separate victor.

    • @acs30gaming98
      @acs30gaming98 7 месяцев назад

      Oh ok I thought he said it either in the first book or movie

    • @Rick_King
      @Rick_King 6 месяцев назад +3

      The fact is that nobody knew anything about District 12's prior victor, only that one existed.
      And I truly believe that Lucy Gray died of exposure in the winter following her leaving 12. She could never return to 12, or Mayor Lipp would have her killed, and nobody even knew District 13 still existed. And if Bonnie and Twill couldn't make it to 13, why would anyone believe that Lucy Gray could?
      I understand people like Lucy Gray, and want her to thrive, but I don't think that was destined to happen.

    After watching the nature vs nuture video comparing Katniss to Snow I would be interested in seeing a comparison of Katniss and Peetas relationship to Snow and Lucy Grays "relationship", it's an interesting situation where her play show love just for survival with Peeta turned into real but a similar origin point with Snow and Lucy Gray turned into tragedy

    We can have hope that one day there will be a remake in the form of a television series that doesn’t skip any details as things in media have changed so drastically since the original movies were released we just have to be patient for people to feel enough time has past from the classic originals that no one would just be outraged.

    Fun fact the reason why Woody Harrelson isn’t seen eating most things anything in the movies is because he’s vegan.

    My favorite moments of Haymitch are when we see his softer side.
    In Cathing Fire when he see a glimpse of his interactions with Maysilee Donner (his ally in his games) stood out to me since he seem to really respect her abilities and was there for her when she was dying (and to be honest made me ship them a bit XD) and that's one thing i find very interesting about him:
    how was he like pre his games? Was he always snarky? Or was he "softer" once? It's fun to speculate about it.

    I’ve just been reading “The End of the World” fanfiction, all about the 50th Hunger Games and focusing on Haymitch and it is amazing, it’s obviously not official but it might as well be canon for how great it is and how much sense it makes, with most of the details fitting in well with the canon story, it could very well be canon with a few changes made to reflect the knowledge of The ballad of songbirds and snakes. I’d highly recommend any hunger games fan to read it, the characterization is just so good and it really explains how Haymitch would become the alcoholic we later see.

    Wow! Your analysis is spot on. The layer of Haymitch’s continued suffering year after year was something I hadn’t conceptualized until
    U described it so well. And the gravity it would have for the next victors and their agreement to the lifelong assault.

    Thank you so much for the section about non-readers at the end!
    I did read the first book shortly after watching the first movie, but in the next couple of years I stopped reading books altogether. I didn't know it back then, but I was undiagnosed with adhd. Sitting down with a book and doing nothing but reading has become so hard for me.
    Again, thank you so much for the endsection of the video. More people should be this accepting to those who just don't think that reading is for them.

    I just noticed something. When Haymitch walks into the cart where Katniss and Peeta are his hand is clutching his abdominal area. Hmmm I wonder if its because of his old wounds of almost losing his intestines.

    I don’t remember if they mentioned this in the book but does the capital take the victors into the hospital and stitch up what they can after the hunger games I guess they have too or most victors would die of injuries I wonder how many victors passed away because they were too injured from fighting to be saved I guess with advanced medicine that didn’t happen much I don’t remember if it’s mentioned but you’d think Haymitch would be in awful shape after his intestines we’re literally falling out so medicine must have really advanced

    • @yoongiverse.
      @yoongiverse. 6 месяцев назад

  • @iri02802
    @iri02802 7 месяцев назад

    9:39 I do not completely understand how Katniss being desirable would have saved her after the hunger games? Even if only one of them survived. Could you explain that a bit more please.

    • @TheGeekApprentice
      @TheGeekApprentice  7 месяцев назад +7

      Absolutely! It’s because of the star crossed lovers story. By Peeta making that confession, in the eyes of those watching from the Capitol, who are very invested, that makes her belong to Peeta permanently. So, even if Peeta had died, Katniss would’ve always been remembered, as Peeta’s romantic interest. And so the capital could not push her selling her body because it would seem wrong in light of her being in love with Peeta. The reverse would also be true

    Surprisingly he is not the most tragic id say Annie Cresta and Johana were more tragic as joana was reaped whihch is always an L and then her family was killed after she was told to go into sex work and then she was forced into the games AGAIN then she was torturerd and the only thing she heard besides her own thoughts and voice were peeta mellarks screams and then after she got out she was denied to going to the mission to the capitol and then katniss broke her promise of killing snow and killed snow and then she lived a shitty life in district 7 and SHE CANT EVEN HAVE THE ENJOYMENT OF BATHING HER SELF she has a nervous breakdown when she come in contact with water because of the water torture she endured and Annie is a lot too she was picked to the hunger games and then saw her partners get be headed and then hid and then won after a dam broke and she won because she was the best swimmer and then she had some happy years with finnick and then she was taken by the capitol and then recued and then she became pregnant in thirten and then finnick died a horrible death and then she was left alone to carry her child that reminded her so much of finnick witch is a bad thing or a good thing depending how u look at it
