I love that this has turned into a TV soap drama. Can't wait for the murder storyline to come along. Who gets clogged in because they refused to sell? Who burns the farm house down for insurance? Next up on The MC
A few notes on your custom cattle farm: 1. Part of the farm should be pasture. Cows should spend time in pasture, it’s where they belong. 2. Keep at least part of the field, livestock farms often grow crops for feed(usually corn, sometimes peas) 3. You went a little crazy with the extractors. That farm isn’t big enough to have that many extractors. The ones you placed by the main building should be enough. 4. You need more straw bales(hay bales according to the game). They should be on all parts of the field. 5. If that is in fact a wheat farm then having it that dark means it has a severe mold problem. 6. Most livestock farms have only one type of livestock. Cows, pigs and chickens require different inputs to raise. They also have very different extraction methods and handling needs. All that equipment is expensive, focusing on one makes economic sense. They also have different life cycles and production cycles. Managing all at once would be a massive challenge for a family farm
It needs some internal fencing too... currently it's one big field, whereas I'd expect any such farm to be divided into smaller fields, allowing animals to graze in one section while others regrow...
All good points, especially pasture for the cattle farm; Haven't been following this series too much because I haven't switched to CS:2 yet, but if this is an european build, there is something to say for mixed livestock though. For intensive farming, for sure it is specialized in a single type of lifestock. Those are large, capital intensive, funded with considerable debts, and cannot afford efficiency losses if run at scale. For old style European, or more organic oriented farming, which I think these farms are going for with their store front being a major revenue generator, mixed farming is a bit more common. It is how these farms used to be set up 30 to 50 years ago, and near an urban sprawl, no opportunity might have arisen to grow to a economic sustainable size that can sustain itself purely by agriculture. Smaller farm like that need to diversify, get a 2nd job, provide a community service and or get a store front. When the agricultural part will not be the main income source, those farms easily can decide to stick with the older more mixed structure, as it usually fits in the existing (old) infrastructure and allows some internal circular usage of crops (e.g. pigs can have have a considerable part of their feed be composed by feed waste from cows and crops.): e.g have some fun with the farm. Last comment: I think the farms are still way to small. Even for the smaller European farms you need to think about 2 to 4 (2 is more common) large Livestock units / Hectare (10000 m^2/ 2.4 acres) of land in order to be able to process manure within the farm itself.
one lil tip is that you can use the different use surfaces, like recreational/walking etc. and animal spawners to make cows walk around in pastures, as well. just that little extra bit of detail.
@@Tuning3434 In NZ at least, farms are almost always diversified... they might be _primarily_ one thing (sheep, beef, dairy, etc), but few would risk specialising exclusively in one thing. They've learned that the hard way over the years... specialisation makes you very vulnerable to changes in the export markets.
This guy farms! 👩🌾 But seriously, I completely agree. I would also add that there should be a big, long pile of the haybales along the side of the farm.
Just a thought experiment, instead of adding a surface to cover the "teeth" in your farms, might it make sense to make two farms zippering the "teeth" to make it all look like 1 farm with 2 main houses? This way you would create more jobs and get more extraction out of the same space. Thanks as always for your content.
@@JimmyMac0424partially merging them into 1 oddball house would make it look like the original house had a massive expansion reno... Kind of like it would if a preexisting farm had been purchased by a new farmer that had a SHED-ton of money and wanted to expand 😂
I'm not sure how this is in the US, but in Europe a rural hotspot like the apple orchard would never have a paved/asphalted parking lot. The parking would be there, it would just be dirt or gravel all the way through, which feels a lot more reasonable for two farmowners to have created, instead of asphalting such a big lot themselves. Since the parking you added there was created with the roadbuilder tool, couldn't you just replace them with a gravel/dirt road that also has parking added? This way you would keep all of the parking functionality but just make it look a lot more realistic
I was thinking the same. Parking sure, but it would be gravel and/or dirt. Also it's unusual to have a big farm with just a single big field. Instead a big multipolygon field would be divided inte smaller more "rectangular-ish" fields. (simply because that is way easier and more practical for the equipment they use. And almost always fields are surrounded by ditches and there are always tiny dirt roads/tracks for the machinery to get onto the fields.
As someone from the US I'd say I agree. It's usually gravel parking lots. and sometimes dirt lots as overflow. Del Osso Farms gets packed. And honestly this is the one time I might suggest he add more parking lol.
As a Minnesotan who has family that are farmers, I appreciate you making the farms look realistic! You don't see buildings in the middle of a field. EVER! I don't know what they were thinking with those spawning extractors popping up out in the middle of a field. 🤦♀🤷♀
For the fences on the farm, for a more realistic look, I'd recommend actually giving some distance between the edge of the field and the fence line. The reason for this is because that looks like some kinda of large-scale harvestable crop, like corn or wheat. Those are harvested with combines, the heads of which that do the harvesting are pretty large and do require extra distance for turning without destroying any of the yet to be harvested crop. Really loving not only the drama of this series but seeing you work. A pleasure as always! :) Edit: Now that I'm further in, I'd also recommend setting the bales farther apart. It does take a significant amount of cuttings to make a bale, meaning a baler would be dumping them a lot farther apart than how you've placed them. Not by much, mind, but maybe double the distance you have them at 27:45
Literally the same what I was thinking. As someone who's been and currently lives in rural area, no way in hell anyone would waste fortune on putting fence around their field, let alone this close so it's impossible to manoeuvre machinery.i mean no disrespect but this farm truly looks like someone who lived all their lives in cities.
I'd generally agree with the other responses here. Fences are usually a limited thing along the road (keep the public out), but something more natural - trees/scrub/woodland - at the back side of the farm. And definitely a strip of grassland/waste between the crop and the actual boundary. Farms may split fields to allow multiple crops and rotation, separated by strips of grass/scrub/shrubs to allow wildlife shelter and windbreaks to protect crops. When you get to the "wilderness" farms of the midwest, you lose the fences, and gain ditches along the side of the roads. Farms are a synergy of nature, and space for wildlife (birds and insects) assist here.
Honestly, no fence would me way more realistic. I can't remember the last farm I saw that was surrounded by fence, and I am surrounded by farmland (I can look out of my bedroom window and see the local co-op). Even where farms run up against highways they don't run fences. The only time I see fences around farm land is when it is used for pasturing animals.
Verde Beach was known for it's fires. Magnolia County is known for its tornadoes it seems. Me: Wow, CPP thinks he added too many trees? That's a first. Editor Phil: Yeah, no, there's no such thing as too many trees.
Hey Phil, I live in Iowa and see farmland all over the place, I'd like to suggest two mulligans on the farm: first, I think the fence would be offset from the fields (especially in the direction of the lines on the farmland texture to allow equipment to turn around) by maybe 1-2 U, second, I don't think the fence would wrap around the inside of the farm, the corn won't run away, so I think the fence would follow the property line straight to the drive.
The bridges leading over the creek would look great if you could get those covered bridges that the dirt roads usually yields. Also, new farms could possibly have small wetlands/miniature marshland to help collect ammonia and nitrogen from manure and fertilizer to help protect the fish and wildlife in the rivers and creeks from suffocation.
@@CityPlannerPlays where I live, there’s a place called Cox Farms. It’s not really a farm but it sells practically everything that the Jennings family sells. It’s also a mini amusement park with slides, hayrides, a petting zoo, and concessions. I think something similar would really fit in that empty space across the road from the store. It could also boost attractiveness and increase the amount of people going to the farm.
@@khalednayfeh2780 Agree. It feels to me like a garden centre, with enough room to sell farming supplies, and have a farmers market selling the locally grown meats and produce. And with it being so isolated, a cafe and picnic area near the park. It's definitely somewhere that could be worth spending the whole day there.
I think the slight seethrough on the fields is better actually, farmfields seen from high up often show different texture lanes for a large part of the year ❤
I agree, however I would back the fencing out a bit as machinery typically leaves a few feet around the edges of fields to be able to turn around with combines
I agree, but make the teeth the same direction as the texture, like on the first one, not the second, which makes it look more like the real texture lines on real farms.
The reason why you're able to see the actual farm field through the surface you placed is that the original farm had its texture horizontal, whereas the one you placed is vertical. So where they overlap, it creates a cross patterns that is not at all the same color as either texture alone. If you were to redraw the surface but just have the starting line follow horizontally instead of vertically, it would be fixed, and it would feel like one field again.
A challenge for you, in your agritourist spot, is there a way to do a corn maze? it may be a limitation of assets but would be neat to see. Maybe using your initial technique of the "rows" then adding patching? Also, maybe a small playground near cider house.
A few things ive noticed. 1 There should be a small strip of grass between the field and fence because farming equipment doesnt get all the way to the fence. 2 Most fields wouldnt have a fence unless they have livestock. 3 The first farm has to many / to many of the same buildings. If you think about the logistics, its more likely they would expand buildings or teardown and build new bigger, not build 2 of the same. 4 The first line drawn on a surface will dictate the texture direction, thats why you it doesnt fully blend with the actual field.
The residential zoning in the farms was my favorite part of your build! It adds such liveliness to area, even if there’s a home on the main farm those other homes could be relatives or families of farm workers that get accommodation as part of working on the property. Without people living there in game, the farms / rural area feel so industrial.
Hay Phil, love seeing a more rural setting. Just a tip if you are going to make some more commercial style orchards going forwards, (as opposed to a pick your own customer facing orchard) The trees should all be evenly spaced and fairly close together and I would actually use saplings. Orchards care a lot about optimal spacing. Small espaliered trees grow the most fruit per ground area and are easier to care for and harvest than full trees. If you want some imperfection i would just delete a tree or two from random rows (where one got damaged by the wind or got sick and had to be cut down) oh and you will often find roses planted along the side of apple orchards as they attract bees . I believe they can also be used to pollinate apples but I'm not 100% sure of that one as apples aren't the specific crop in my region but are fairly common a few hours away when visiting family 🙂
Love seeing the Jeffersonian grid back again. It adds so much to realism in your build. And I love to see how some of these rural roads will urbanize over time an dictate the layout and development of future neighborhoods.
This build looks fantastic, the detail is amazing!! My only suggestion is to leave more space between the field boundary and the fences, in reality tractors wouldn't be able to get right into the corners of the fields if there were a fence there.
This drives me crazy, so I bought a super thanks. Hopefully you see it. You don’t need to click “paste” for each building. If you want to “copy & paste” the same colour much much much much faster 1. Select the building you want to copy the colour of 2. Click the “palette” IN the recolour mod menu 3. Then click the buildings you want to paste it on to.
Also! A long time ago I mentioned you can change the colours of the trees in a livestream. (Back when recolour came out) If you change the global colour of the other trees, you might find that a combination of two, becomes a combination of 3 or 4. Try a dark green, & a slightly darker green. Like if you don’t use the alders, place one down, change the global colour, & test it out.
Maybe i've been watching too much Piccana, but the orchard is crying out for some decals under the trees. Maybe some dirt or riverbed. It is already great, but I think that would take it to the next level!
What if the empty field in the big farm acted as a venue for community events like festivals or concerts for the town. Maybe even a soccer field near the parking for the towns soccer league
You should add a small custom playground to the farm. Farmers tend to have kids and outdoor entertainment for them. If there's a diving board asset I would add one to the pond.
For more of farm and orchard feel, you should get rid of the paved parking. Most orchards and pumpkin patches I've been to had parking, but you'd park in the dirt or grasss. you should add dirt surfaces and remove the parking lines if you can
And remove at least half of the parking. That farm has 128 parking spots. That's way overkill if you ask me. 32 paved parking spots (a single row instead of 4 rows) feels like a good number, with a grass/dirt/gravel field that could be used as overflow parking
You should place more trees on the riverfront to prevent erosion and the chemicals used in the fields from getting directly into the river. These trees would also help with flood prevention.
You should put in a rural hotel or multiple out near the petting zoo and stuff. I think it would add tourist attraction and make the area have more activity.
Hey ! As a hotel owner, I see the area behind the grain farm as a really good place for a very small luxury cozy hotel. With the new tourism fixes, I think it could be very good news for the farm owners as they will have more costumers and irl the hotel would probably do well because of the beautiful landscapes and the proximity to both Bend and the airport. You could add a few trails near the lake and on the hills too.
I really like the depth that adding rural builds/farms to later get encroached on and built over by sprawl brings to your story! A few thoughts about the farms based on my rural experience. 1) fences are too close to the fields and/or unnecessary, unless it was pastured. Combines, tractors, etc. need room to turn around and to harvest the crops without extra things to run into 2) CSA location could be made to look more rural with a gravel parking lot, dirt paths, etc. 3) Individual fields could be customized a bit... - darker brown field is the one that has a tractor plowing it. - lighter brown maybe has a tractor bailing/forklift loading bails on a flat bed? (not sure what assets are available) - another field could have the combine harvesting. 4) fewer buildings in the green roofed farm. Wouldn't be enough space for all the animal raising, not enough fields to justify those barns being filled with equipment. Really enjoying this series, and I'm finally caught up so thought I'd engage and make a comment. Thanks for the work you do!
This was a cool build. As someone who spent today traversing a rural part of my State, taking in the Fall colors and picking up far too many apples - this was a lot of fun to watch. My only critique is that for someone who goes overboard with his tree planting, that orchard is incredibly sparse! You could probably double your rows and still have a very realistic setup. Looking forward to more MC!!
I am so excited to be moving back to an area where there are abundant CSAs available. When I used to participate in a CSA, I got some of the freshest, tastiest, most abundant, and cost effective produce. CSAs seem very expensive up front but many of them save you money in the long run. Being part of a CSA also pushes you to expand your culinary horizons while coming up with a plan for the week's fruits and veggies. I really can't overstate how much I loved having a CSA. Eat local
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. Especially your magnolia county vids. I really like how they are consistent but also pretty interesting. I find it fun to follow along and watch it grow as a city.
The farms turned out great! A suggestion in the words of one of my favorite RTS games: "Silos needed". I would love to see both single grain silos to complete that homey family farm look, and also larger storage silos as a part of maybe a small plopable agricultural industry zone (for instance centered around a mini rail terminal). It always seems weird in the game that you can't separate out industry specializations because you end up with grain storage right next to the petrochemicals and other dirty industry. Another idea: add a creamery to a livestock farm near a major road using the same technique as your vegetable market building. Its always a pleasant surprise when I'm taking a rural highway to find some ice cream or milk shakes for sale straight from the farm!
As someong currently planning a wedding in a city, I loved that in the central area there was a space that could make an event space for outdoor weddings. The best private outdoor spaces for wedding venues in my city are in farm complexes like this. They also have pumpkin patch walks and other such cozy community events, which really add to the rural community feeling. You could put event tents or something in the area to signify those things idk 😁
I just want to say, you capture that nostalgia in every video. The chill vibes that you can either pay full attention to or put on while doing my school work so thanks for the years of great brain nourishment haha
For the storefront, I'd like to see most of the parking end up being dirt/grass/gravel. Similar to how farms like this tend to have overflow parking when they set up a pumpkin patch or host some sort of holiday festival. :) Great episode, as always.
When you started your farm zoning witht the in and out shapes, I was happy. I was brainstorming in my head the other day about how we can prevent extractors to appear and it was exactly this idea I had. Happy to see it !
The farms look great. Suggestions: maybe take away the bales in the field that is being worked. You could do a bale storage by fencing a small area by the barns and putting in a stack of covered bales. You could put regular bales by one of the extractors to appear as ready-to-go feed. Silage pits would be a great addition to look great and authentic. I would also move the combine to the barn because there are no crops in the field. The livestock farm would look great with some silos. The commercial building does need to look a bit more rural (parking). Adding a bunch silos to the shop will make it look like a co-op, and maybe a small tractor/combine/implement dealership would look awesome.
Having grown up in a more rural area, a lot of farms would often have those storefront areas, so I really appreciated seeing that in this build. Just a suggestion, maybe you could add some sort of a 4H club type of facility (using an elementary school as the main building) in the empty section of the property near your parking lots as a sign of how the farmers of the region are coming together to teach their kids and perhaps kids from the city how to carry on the industry?
Love this build so much reminds me of some of the cider mills around metro Detroit like Yates and Blake’s cider mills. Great work. Glad you added the playground and petting farm. Makes is a realistic family location!
Bro I love your videos so much, this style of editing fits perfectly for what I like to see in a city builder play through. Please do more like this, streams are great but it takes a long time for things to happen in game
The farm was beautiful and realistic. Makes me want to visit it. BTW, the addition of a creek is brilliant. I don't see many creators adding natural features like that in their cities. I am from the Southeast. There are creeks everywhere. I think we need more creeks and tributaries in future builds, where it makes sense of course.
I grew up working on my family's farm in a rural part of New England. We had a small apple orchard and a farm store and all that. Definitely did not have paved parking - let alone almost 130 spots! I think even at our busiest in the fall we'd never have more than maybe a dozen people in at once. We just had a dirt lot in front of the farm store, and then people could park on the grass near the apple orchard & pumpkin/corn fields.
Beautiful area, perfect for a small campground, especially as that new creek would be highly desirable for kayakers, it reminds me of the (natural) creek I grew up on that flowed through farmland, country homes, and camps. Many great memories canoing/kayaking up and down it!
Hey cpp absolutely love your videos and just binge watched them :) I would be thrilled and extremely grateful if you could build a custom ‘cricket ground’ as its the biggest sport where i live and its growing quite a lot in the usa with them hosting and participating in the recent world cup. So it would be awesome to see it develop in the ever growing city of magnolia county, and it would resonate quite nicely since most teams in england are based on counties
Country boy finally nails the farms! Good lookin' stuff, reminds me of the small communities west of Lansing, MI that I grew up in. We had an amazing cider mill just a little drive away, and more dairy farms than you could shake a stick at... and this time of year when it was Hay Ride and Cider season was the best!
This looks awesome, farmland is hard to pull of right and not boring But the decor for the first field is kinda all over the place. Combine signals about it being a harvest season, tractor tells you a story about prepping the land for new crops yet hay bales symbolises far end of harvesting, forming and leaving hey. Plus, hay bales are usually all over the field when done, evenly dispersed
It is insane how far your builds have come !!! If there is an asset for some old dilapidated farm houses and collapsing barns to sprinkle randomly along road sides in the country. That would add an extra level of realism to the area
I always find it interesting that you smooth out the cutting. We (almost) never do that; we always just use geotextiles or gabions to reinforce the cut face. Also, you normally see a gap between your fence and ploughed row, as the operators can't get the seed plough that close to the fence. So having a 1m (3ft) gap of grass between your row and inside of the fence would be realistic.
When using the recolor mod, you can just click the color palette icon on the building with the target color, then click on each building you want to make that color. Also, I'd use the riverbed light surface instead of sand for the pathways thru the orchard.
I drive by a ton of farms on my way to work. The only ones that have fences are the ones with cows and goats. You have to be able to get those big combines in the fields so fencing and massive trees lining the fields would not work. A lot of them have wooded areas in the back of the lots and there's even an old graveyard in the middle of one field. It looks pretty cool.
That carparked area next to the orchard feels very muchy like a garden centre and farmers market. Could definately see them selling farming tools, lots of plants and seeds, as well as fresh produce, butchers, and even a cafe with outdoor seating near the playground. Because it's so isolated, it's gonna be the sort of place people take a day trip out to visit it.
First off, as usual, the story is great. This build here really gave me vibes of my towns farms and popular stops. Great build, and hopefully we see some more farm building in the future!
what a beautiful bild . I like this a lot . maybe at the barn with 1 tractor a little parking space for 3 or 5 cars. From dome's parking lots . you still would have the sand structure . with a little luck there will be some movement . you can also draw some invisible walking pads in the apple pads . to attract walking people 😁
Still catching up, excited to have the next week off to binge! I love this build! The texture issue you noted on the farm - I kind of like the green bleeding through. My imagination makes me think small plants are budding in those fields and that’s why the green is peeking through. My only thought- is there anything the farmers might need to do to prevent runoff into the creek/river/lake due to close proximity that could be incorporated? Algae blooms were a huge concern in the lake near where I grew up! Thanks for all your hard work, Phil!
Nice work, Phil! The orchard reminds me of the Gays Mills, WI apple orchards which are absolutely beautiful. If you end up naming that region, I’d suggest something to pay homage to Gays Mills. Also, since you did the zigzag farms in that area, maybe you could try to build out a custom corn maze to go with the orchard! You might have to anarchy in something to add the crop height you’d need for a real maze, but it could be fun!
Great build, one of my favorites so far!! I'd only suggest limiting the field a little bit farther from the river, giving you more space to separate the farmland from the waterline! This would allow you to create a riparian forest, which could be a valid environmental concern!
Fancy Farms needs more parks! These types of farms/arboretums have a variety of activities for families and kids. I know its harder to sporadically place parks and playgrounds, but I think you can do it. Please add more parks~
i love the farm build, its nice and realistic. reminds me of living on the 5 family farm as a kid. i hope they have a wonderful and prosperous family together! :D
The clipping 2-headed cows were Fallout-esque. Seriously though, I hope CO redoes the farms to recreate what talented Phil has accomplished here. How about placing the big camping park, the one that comes with the game, near the parking area with the barns? Maybe a site like Elevenlabs would have helped with creating the drama voices at the beginning.
You know you're in for a good bit when the Wii Music starts playing, at least it helped fill up with the irrigation channels! Also, I swear that Tornado was just Darrell being angry about everything that's happening, literally blowing off his steam 🤣
The big grassy field on the other side of the road from the parking lot, will nicely home the Annual Vintage Tractor Show. Also, in the Hayride, the two headed cow nicely brings the Fallout vibe.
This video makes me want to launch this game for the first time in 10 months. The creative bug has bitten me. The mods, the assets, the updates... this game has certainly come a long way... I actually can't wait for the next time I get to sit down and launch!
You’re right about the parking at the orchard, but there’s no way they would have urbanized sidewalk, curb and gutter in such a rural area. The riverside looks like it could use a good riparian buffer too.
How about a strawberry picking farm in the open area beside the commercial buildings? It could fill up that space nicely and realistically it's a great draw to the area.
Bro, i have suggestions. Atleast use some rocks for aesthetics, it would seem more natural and organic. And why not use foresty on your orchard to make it useful. Thank you! Love your builds.
Maybe on the big empty lot next to Walnutstreet, you can have a small campsite. Here in The Netherlands a lot of farmers have a farm campsite. Farmers like this because they can show people where their products come from (milk doesn't grow in bottles or cartons do they? Let alone in plastic bags.. like, why Canada?). They also sell their goods to the visitors/tourists. And sometimes even organise workshops (e.g. cheese making workshop).
You could add some residential buildings near the agritourist spot that serve as Bed & Breakfast spots for people wanting a rural vacation. Alternatively, I suppose you could use the newly fixed tourism to get a hotel or two, but that might look like overkill.
The production quality of your videos is simply incredible! Thank you for all the effort you put in. I thoroughly enjoy your content and it always brightens my day.
Yea I think the fences around the harvestable farms aren’t the most realistic and tree lines going right to the edge of the fields. Farmer need space on two ends of a farm at least. It’d be a good way to distinguish property lines better too but fences around animal farms and orchards totally make sense. Farmers also allow live stock in the grain fields to graze after harvesting in small sections so maybe some small fenced areas in the fields would make sense. Also farming is done in stages so I think it’d would look so much nicer to have select on plowing, another on harvesting, and another baling. Having it all on one field doesn’t look so good, feel more like asset spamming. Love the work you’re putting into this one though. Could also decommission some farms as you build new ones showing people moving over the river. Really love this !
I love that this has turned into a TV soap drama. Can't wait for the murder storyline to come along. Who gets clogged in because they refused to sell? Who burns the farm house down for insurance? Next up on The MC
Horrifying murder, must build a courthouse and prison, as well as more policing

A few notes on your custom cattle farm:
1. Part of the farm should be pasture. Cows should spend time in pasture, it’s where they belong.
2. Keep at least part of the field, livestock farms often grow crops for feed(usually corn, sometimes peas)
All good points,especially pasture for the cattle farm;
Haven't been following this series too much because I haven't switched to CS:2 yet, but if this is an european build, there is something to say for mixed livestock though.

Honestly, this is what I thought he was doing at first, I was very surprised when it wasn't.
“Daryl says nothing, but he’s clearly livid.” *proceeds to have an aneurysm standing up*
I'm not sure how this is in the US, but in Europe a rural hotspot like the apple orchard would never have a paved/asphalted parking lot.
The more touristy ones sometimes do. This one, probably wouldn't.
I feel like he could overlay dirt over the parking lot to make it more realistic.
And honestly this is the one time I might suggest he add more parking lol.
im pretty sure the white lines that mark the parking spaces would then be on the dirt, which wouldnt look very good
As a Minnesotan who has family that are farmers, I appreciate you making the farms look realistic! You don't see buildings in the middle of a field. EVER! I don't know what they were thinking with those spawning extractors popping up out in the middle of a field. 🤦♀🤷♀
I think they copied the code to spawn extractors for mines and called it a day. I guess they thought they could revisit it in the future.
Edit: Now that I'm further in, I'd also recommend setting the bales farther apart. It does take a significant amount of cuttings to make a bale, meaning a baler would be dumping them a lot farther apart than how you've placed them. Not by much, mind, but maybe double the distance you have them at 27:45
Came to comment this, cant have fences that tight on the fields. I dont know of any farm that has fences around them except grazing land.
@@SaltyPO I've seen fences around orchards to keep deer out, but that was in an area much more heavily forested than this. Otherwise, totally agree
The fences right next to the field kills me 😂 it ought to be closer to the road with a bit of a buffer for the tractors and such to turn around
Great idea! Will do that!
This so much, I don't normally comment but the waterside farm land just perfect for a case-study on water pollution.
@@CityPlannerPlaysare you ever gonna hire VAs for the characters? From patreon mabye?
Great job, you could also sneak in a few invisible parking slots near the cider barn to make it feel lively
Good idea! Will do
@@CityPlannerPlays also maybe add some cars as well, so the parking lots don't look so empty and oversized.
I see why you were concerned about voicing this 😆
how can i help you voice these lmaoooo
I could do some voice lines too for a bit of fun!
I think the slight seethrough on the fields is better actually, farmfields seen from high up often show different texture lanes for a large part of the year ❤
how did you comment 2 hours befor the video came out
I agree, however I would back the fencing out a bit as machinery typically leaves a few feet around the edges of fields to be able to turn around with combines
@@raks.y.t The video says it was available to members first so they could have comented before the video was available to everyone
Just a tip if you are going to make some more commercial style orchards going forwards, (as opposed to a pick your own customer facing orchard)
The trees should all be evenly spaced and fairly close together and I would actually use saplings.
Orchards care a lot about optimal spacing. Small espaliered trees grow the most fruit per ground area and are easier to care for and harvest than full trees.
If you want some imperfection i would just delete a tree or two from random rows (where one got damaged by the wind or got sick and had to be cut down)
oh and you will often find roses planted along the side of apple orchards as they attract bees .
45:45 Darryl Johnson: "Two headed cows in the CSA? What's in the river water? They're in cahoots with that freak show Chuckles!!"
I was looking for the two headed cow comment but this was even better than i expected 😂
If you want to “copy & paste” the same colour much much much much faster
1. Select the building you want to copy the colour of
2. Click the “palette” IN the recolour mod menu
3. Then click the buildings you want to paste it on to.
Also! A long time ago I mentioned you can change the colours of the trees in a livestream. (Back when recolour came out)
If you change the global colour of the other trees, you might find that a combination of two, becomes a combination of 3 or 4.
Try a dark green, & a slightly darker green.
Like if you don’t use the alders, place one down, change the global colour, & test it out.
Embarrassingly, I'm just figuring this out. Thank you!! And thank you for the support!
Maybe i've been watching too much Piccana, but the orchard is crying out for some decals under the trees. Maybe some dirt or riverbed. It is already great, but I think that would take it to the next level!
Maybe some beehives? (is that an asset in CS:2?)
26:50 great entertainment. I’ll just adjust this water source to be a TSUNAMI!!! 🌊
I love these farm builds so much. Very atmospheric. Can't wait to see more cropping up if you expose the pun!
100%
You should put in a rural hotel or multiple out near the petting zoo and stuff. I think it would add tourist attraction and make the area have more activity.
Hey ! As a hotel owner, I see the area behind the grain farm as a really good place for a very small luxury cozy hotel. With the new tourism fixes, I think it could be very good news for the farm owners as they will have more costumers and irl the hotel would probably do well because of the beautiful landscapes and the proximity to both Bend and the airport. You could add a few trails near the lake and on the hills too.
It was LIFE changing when I found out you can use anarchy to make huge farms outside the circle boundaries.
at 45:45 we find confirmation that cities skylines is in the fallout universe.
I really like the depth that adding rural builds/farms to later get encroached on and built over by sprawl brings to your story! A few thoughts about the farms based on my rural experience.
1) fences are too close to the fields and/or unnecessary, unless it was pastured. Combines, tractors, etc. need room to turn around and to harvest the crops without extra things to run into
2) CSA location could be made to look more rural with a gravel parking lot, dirt paths, etc.
3) Individual fields could be customized a bit...
- darker brown field is the one that has a tractor plowing it.
- lighter brown maybe has a tractor bailing/forklift loading bails on a flat bed? (not sure what assets are available)
- another field could have the combine harvesting.
4) fewer buildings in the green roofed farm. Wouldn't be enough space for all the animal raising, not enough fields to justify those barns being filled with equipment.
Really enjoying this series, and I'm finally caught up so thought I'd engage and make a comment. Thanks for the work you do!
I think some of those bridges over the creeks should be covered bridges! it could be a nice landmark or centerpiece.
Nothing brings joy to my life the way Phil saying "we need to make parking" does. It's so beautiful.
I understand Daryl's perspective, but I also think maybe he should be on a watch list.
Love the farms!
A city builder IRL, a city builder on YT, and now an accomplished voice actor. Phil does it all! 😂
Loved this episode!
I’ve been bingeing MC the last few days and this is probably one of my favorite builds I’ve seen so far! Wish I could visit these farms in real life!
I love the little stories you use to explain your city's development. Keep up the good work.
Hey cpp absolutely love your videos and just binge watched them :)
I would be thrilled and extremely grateful if you could build a custom ‘cricket ground’ as its the biggest sport where i live and its growing quite a lot in the usa with them hosting and participating in the recent world cup. So it would be awesome to see it develop in the ever growing city of magnolia county, and it would resonate quite nicely since most teams in england are based on counties
I'm so blown away with this build. Congrats on such an impressive accomplishment.
This looks awesome, farmland is hard to pull of right and not boring
But the decor for the first field is kinda all over the place. Combine signals about it being a harvest season, tractor tells you a story about prepping the land for new crops yet hay bales symbolises far end of harvesting, forming and leaving hey. Plus, hay bales are usually all over the field when done, evenly dispersed
Beautiful build, Phil. And you said you aren't a detailer, liar. I love what you do with story telling, it makes the build feel a lot more alive
Love the feeling of the farms! And a city looks a lot better with farms all around!
When using the recolor mod, you can just click the color palette icon on the building with the target color, then click on each building you want to make that color. Also, I'd use the riverbed light surface instead of sand for the pathways thru the orchard.
Indeed, the sand is too bright👌🏻
I drive by a ton of farms on my way to work. The only ones that have fences are the ones with cows and goats. You have to be able to get those big combines in the fields so fencing and massive trees lining the fields would not work. A lot of them have wooded areas in the back of the lots and there's even an old graveyard in the middle of one field. It looks pretty cool.
Love the creativity with this build. Really cool way to work swing the restrictions of the game
This is what I prefer to do actually in CS2 : Building farms.
that's what relaxes me the most.
Thanks for the many tips !
Wow! Huge Anarchy update. That bridge looks great!
Great idea! Definitely going to rethink some of my farm land in my own city now. Excellent work as always
Can’t wait to see a vanilla story line similar to Verde Beach. The way you integrated all your builds and stories in the first game was amazing.
what a beautiful bild . I like this a lot . maybe at the barn with 1 tractor a little parking space for 3 or 5 cars.
From dome's parking lots . you still would have the sand structure . with a little luck there will be some movement .
you can also draw some invisible walking pads in the apple pads . to attract walking people 😁
Love the new family. I hope that we will see more of the Jennings Family going forward.
I so love all the lore for these series. Please keep it going!
I grumbled about the story at the start and stand by it. But there's no denying this is a gorgeous build! And that's what counts!
That intro! 😅 I love a good rural episode. The road building tools in anarchy are essential IMO.
Great build, one of my favorites so far!! I'd only suggest limiting the field a little bit farther from the river, giving you more space to separate the farmland from the waterline! This would allow you to create a riparian forest, which could be a valid environmental concern!
I recommended coloring fields back in #17-18, so glad to see you finally use it, as I honestly just think it looks neat.
Absolutely love it Phil! Your creativity really inspires me for my builds 👏🏽
I love the story telling you do. It gives life to everything
Man this game is so much better then CS1 now, and the visuals are just leaps and bounds better. glad to see it.
The farms look so cool. Nice!
Very impressive. Excellent work, Phil.
Thank you so much! I know I'm slower because of it, but I love putting in a bit of extra effort in the editing. Glad you're enjoying it!
@@CityPlannerPlays Quality over quantity!
