I just imagined a traffic radio announcer blaring out of every simulated vehicle drivers radio, whenever Biffa changes the road layout. “Stay the beep away from Lindberg Street today. Biffa is working on it”. 😂
They have a subway. Maybe it's just me, but I love to create busy congested roads and freeways. Not to the point where services can't be performed but lots of lanes as it will allow me with a lot of moving traffic like a real city like los angles, new york, dfw. I'm trying to do a mix of dfw and nyc. Dense sprawl with high density in the middle
Such a nice city, but oh lord was it's roadway network is a disaster! One ways turning into 2-ways halfway through, single main highway, strange little roads just sprinkled in. Man! I kind want to download it and try my own fixes.
I don't think so necessarily. But pedestrians are getting in the way there. But I only see one large one going down. Where is the easy access to going in the opposite direction - because like you said everyone is getting on those one-ways.
One way roads are fine if it's easy enough to get to the other direction to get to your destination. What I see is every single scrap of parking taken and bad math and lane connectors on the main city roads. Like at 24:25 only the one straight on off of a highway, and then two left turns who were forced back into the highway roundabout, and roundabouts on 5 lane roads are just a no-no.
One-way, with no road hierarchy. In order to get from the industrial(?) area at the stem of the trumpet, everyone needs to get onto the highway, and then immediately get off and go to LIndburgh street - there needs to be a separation, with a dedicated high-capacity road extending from the trumpet to the other side of the city.
Hey Biffa, great video! It's so fun watching traffic fixes :) I have to say, there is something that you do quite often in traffic fixes and in your cities, for example on the intersection fix at 27:00, the left turning lanes go into a 5 lane section, but the turning lanes go onto 2 lanes that are then immediatelly forced to turn left again, because they cannot get onto the straight lanes. You force cars to go onto a specific lane or two, and then there's no room for a new node before the next intersection, and the cars are then forced to go into a specific direction and don't have a chance to choose before turning again. This causes cars to go round a long route to get to where they are going, increasing traffic. Always check after adding dedicated turning lanes, that they can turn into all lanes of the destination road, or at least all the "options" that that road provides :D Keep on keeping on, your videos are so fun to watch while I work c:
For a city with one way roads wide like that, I would suggest to remove all the traffic lights. From the main roads one lane turning left/right depending on the direction of the smaller street, and a new lane connecting from that road to that main. No crossing over the main roads. So if someone wants to cross the city one way (through the main roads) has to zig-zag through the one ways. This way no light is needed, no stop&yield, just one lane turning off, and one turning onto the main road. I have been thinking about a lot, and have never seen a build like that. One way roads only, no crossings through lanes. just turning with traffic left or right.
I’ve done builds like this in CS1, on smaller scales at least. It works quite well, but it basically becomes a giant Squareabout, and sometimes the traffic builds up to such a degree that it all jams up if the Squareabout is too big. I think the reasons people don’t usually do this is that in the real world reckless or confused drivers would frequently misunderstand unless you had some kind of physical barrier, and because typical one way roads avoid having junctions on both sides. Usually entrances and exits are both one one side with the other lanes being used for overtaking, whereas this layout would have entrances and exits on both sides, which could confuse drivers. There’s also some issues with conflict points on side roads, unless they were also one way.
Not sure if this works in cs or cs2 but in real life it's been shown that even with 2 way roads, preventing all left turns in a grid city is more efficient and safe
I feel like a big traffic problem in cities 2 is the fact that vehicles basically turn 90 degrees to change lanes or merge which causes all vehicles behind them to slam on the brakes and bunch up. If they could implement realistic lane changes i think it would help a lot!
I'm so excited to see another traffic fix. I love these! I can't wait to see what the public transport is like. Are there ways to get on the highway FROM the city. There are so many u turning from one side of the highway to the other. These vids are so interesting! Thanks!
All of these crazy roundabouts on the motorways need to be replaced. As a driver, I would tear them down as they were a faulty design. In the real world, they would definitely be a hotspot for accidents. And then there are all these one-way streets. There is no road hierarchy that I can recognise, at least. And I haven't seen any public transport either. That would certainly take a lot of the load off the roads.
I love the laughing guy you throw up when you are giggling at yourself or laughing at a mistake you made 😂 You are so good at traffic!! I would have already pulled my hair out!!
The problem with eliminating the lights on your boulevards is that the pedestrians cross all the time and block everything. You have way too many crossings on your artery.
You should have the ability to build fly overs where pillars can be placed on medians like we see in real life that can really help with the flow in busy junctions
When you use Traffic mod, click the "Remove all unsafe button". That will remove all the 'pretend lines' and will ensure the cars will do what you want them to do since those 'pretend lines' means that the movement isnt recomended, but cars will still do it if its necessary
25:50 make sure they are not forced in a turning lane, by removing the lane connectors you forced them to turn left again at the next junction and not have the option to go straight
Wow! Thank you Biffa for making such a good video. One day you should make one on the Mods that you use and you prefered ones so we could try them as well. Thanks again.
