      I honestly love the custom lumber area but you forgot to build a fire department! 😆 As for a name for the new township it should probably be related to the new lumber company, so Lewis... something: Lewis Village, Lewisville, Lewis Mills, Lewis River, etc. I really enjoyed today's video.

    Hey Phil, I would say that it actually makes sense for that soccer field to be lower than the grade. We have them everywhere where I live. They double as flood control. With the constant harvesting of trees, those hills won’t absorb as much water as they used to.

      I agree, I was have said a few times that the city tours actually show you more of the before than the after, and it's not really interesting to see the before when it's just forest, especially as CPP does such an amazing job detailing. This was better, I think we don't need to see every before space if it was forest. I do like how it ended, that really gives an idea of how much it changes.

    Cole from Maine here. love what you did with the forestry industry! Being from Maine, logging is a huge industry here. In Maine, hunting, hiking and snowmobiling are big recreational past times, and often take place in the logging and timber lots that are currently not being cut. There are logging roads that go between the different wood lots for easy access for heavy equipment, and allow for the recreational activities. Would be cool to see this implemented, maybe with adding paths or dirt roads that break up the different trees of different ages, with the odd hunting cabin or camp ground. Often times abandoned and unused rail lines are used as hiking, hunting and snowmobile trails. Maybe an abandoned rail line could be added looking like it once ran through the area before the uses and industries changed. Just a thought to make the area look like it has a richer history and multiple uses.
    Also, my suggestion for the town name for the new industry area would be Lewiston. Lewis Lumber Company is expanding, and there's a city in Maine called Lewiston that used to be a big mill town, I think it would be a fitting name for Lewis Lumber Company and their new lumber mill and a fun nod to Lewiston Maine.

    • @powerof900
      @powerof900 5 месяцев назад

      I think a perfect example of the logging roads I'm talking about would be north of Sebec Lake in Maine. Check out google maps. Definitely respecting the topography, branching out like fingers to reach the different wooded areas

      Oregonian here. Our forestry companies actually have full time public liaison employees that can be called to see if a particular logging road is open to recreation and what type. In addition to off roading, horseback riding, mountain biking and gravel biking are really popular. All they ask in return is if you report anything that is against their policies. It gives the public a huge amount of recreational area that often connects into national forest and BLM land and gives the forestry company monitoring of remote areas.

    Do not remove the surface!
    Trees take up a LOT of resources from the soil. As a matter of fact, most forest's soil are really poor in nutrients (hence why most dense forests have no grass). The soil turns more brown-ish and eventually, some sort of humus is manually added so it becomes more favourable for the industry
    And for the new district, what about "Lewis New Grounds"?
    Lastly, the tour is better! I appreciated it, really 😊
    Edit for the people: goddamn it, I mean the first 10m of soil is very poor to sustain grass, not only due to the forest casting shadows, but for the trees stealing most of the nutrients for themselves

    • @BlarghMeow
      @BlarghMeow 5 месяцев назад +13

    On the soccer field, I would put a tall fence along the goal end that is at the roadway. This does two things, stops balls from landing on cars driving by, and stops kids from dashing in to the road to retrieve a ball when they ultimately miss the goal - don't ask how I know this...

    • @DuelScreen
      @DuelScreen 5 месяцев назад +9

      Yes. That area doesn't feel finished. I'm not sure I like the surface covering the area past the soccer field either but I'm OK with it. Add some fencing for sure. Maybe a hotdog vendor and bathrooms. It's a little too plain and I would be shocked if there wasn't at least a little parking.

    • @spamfilter32
      @spamfilter32 5 месяцев назад

      The fence isn't necessary. I live right next to a soccer field that has the goal line but up against a high frequency residential (though low density) road and has no fence. It has never been a problem. The fence would be expensive to maintain, and would limit access to the park grounds.

    • @skyechimes658
      @skyechimes658 3 месяца назад +1

      @@spamfilter32we have “backstop” style fencing for a lot of our fields. So it’s still fully accessible because the high fence is only directly behind the end of fields. It’s less expensive to maintain than hedges, and cuts the city rec departments liability insurance costs by more than enough to offset the cost of maintaining anyway.

    • @spamfilter32
      @spamfilter32 3 месяца назад

      @skyechimes658 the field near my home has no fence at all. But there is greenspace between the field and the road. Maybe 15-20 feet. So maybe that is considered enough buffer to keep kids from running out onto the street without being seen? I don't know, but there is another park I drive past occasionally that has 4 soccer fields and also no fence at all.

  • @lightplane
    @lightplane 5 месяцев назад +51

    This looks awesome. Suggestion: the neighbourhood football pitch probably should have a fence behind the goal area to prevent balls being kicked onto the road and stop kids running out onto the road. Other sides probably don't need a fence.

      @kyleh6962 5 месяцев назад +2

      Seconding this. Most new fields have fencing (or dense bushes like the asset's hedge) along any nearby roads. The trees would be fine for the residential loop as they are farther out, but the collector/arterial definitely should.

    I LOVE seeing clear cut blasts, that's why I wish you'd used them more, but I grew up in Illinois, and yeah, it's more realistic for a Wisconsin-ish state to push dirt around. It's flat where we are/were, and blasting is for bedrock and mountains. Hell, that's why we have basements in the north, but we don't get them in Texas. It's all dirt up there. That's why driving through Tennessee highways is so nuts, the amount of sheer rock walls is insane!

    Comments/Questions/Concerns:
    The line tool and forest age thing looks REALLY nice. Makes the whole industrial area look very neat while maintaining a bit of a natural look. The Cargo Rail thing is actually kinda genius, though. Someday you'll get railroads to work as intended first try!
    34:33- bump in the rail line?
    -Fire Industry- You already know about this, so this is a gentle reminder before Myrtle takes her Park back. Remember you'll need both ground and air support for all those trees and industry buildings.
    Phil, are you ok? You took away all the lighting from the soccer field and the park. What happened to Safety Phil?
    Anyways, I think it would be natural that Lewis Lumber had a nod in the new zone's name. Maybe one of the family's first names? Also, I would think they might name a road after Chuckles as thanks for bringing this opportunity to them.
    Last concern- You did address a comment about the obstruction of James' view in the comments for the last video, but didn't fix it in this one. Too much on your mind?
    As always, a pleasure to watch you design and build according to a story. Thanks, CPP!

    Gorgeous build. One small and unreasonable ask of the fame devs would be if some parks, e.g., soccer pitches, could be terrain conforming. Being from a hilly rural area, I’m used to parks conforming to the land. My childhood soccer games were played on pitches on a literal hillside - the teams would switch sides regularly in every match so everyone got a turn at the downhill slope advantage 🙂 would be a fun little thing to have for realism’s sake.

    Hi Phil, with the soccer field there is definitely a few things you'd want to change. Either make it lower level as a flood basin (commonly seen in Nova Scotia) or you'll want to add high fencing behind the nets so there's less chance of a ball heading into traffic. If this was just a community field I'd keep the lights off but since the asset looks so polish with the lines I think the lights would be great for youth and rec leagues to use as well

What makes this neighborhood standout is its integration into the forrest and it is a shame that no paths crisscross the forrest, nothing formal. Maybe you could use the forestry surface, to mark some trails.

    Lewis on the Wold, or Myrtuswald perhaps. In old English, Wald was the Saxon word for forest, and it often was changed to 'Wald' instead. The Lewis prefix is for the company of course, and Mytrus is a genus of plants, but also the origin of the name Myrtle.

    How about Woodsbend since the river wraps around much of the new forest district. Also, could you maybe do a foot path across the new mini park. It'd be a a more direct path across instead of a long walk around the bend and it kinda looks odd seeing the soccer field pend in by streets on three sides and then just open on the last.

    Love the improvements for the trees. Here are a few names:: (1: Ravenwood - 2: Lewistown - 3: Sherwood - 4: Emberwood). For my builds as (Drakervon) in past cities I used Rvonwood. I was thinking Lewiston (town) because that was a TON of Trees. Sherwood is for the Trees = Money for the Fantasy of it al. Lastly Emberwood or (Mertlewood) to appease the Goddess of Forest and Fire. And please don't forget city services Fire Protection and Police within the New Tree Farms area. Great work as always. Love the videos. Keep up the wonderful work / play.

    Definitely like the custom railyard! I think you should add some rail sections that simulate shunting/switching operations that would generally be present possibly add a building and spur rail section to house the switching locomotive. Not to mention there's probably a need for a little railway employee parking there too.

    One way to prevent trains to get stuck on traffick, is to add one or two railways to rural areas, where trains can stop and wait for other train to pass. They are usually located in plases in middle of nowhere.

    What about Muskegon for the new Industry, named after Meuskegon, Michigan? Charles Hackley, the owner of the biggest logging operation there, was big on giving back to his city and making sure to donate wherever he could. I think it's a fitting name, given the location of Magnolia County.

    This lumber industry looks just amazing. Could we get a fast forward of the tree cycle? Would need to be recorded out of normal simulation I guess, but could show a bit about the possibilities in CS2.
    Very much appreciated that you educate yourself outside the videos to include specific principles and strategies, and teach us in turn, how some of these things work - beyond your already existing knowledge and experience in city planning.

  • @koko-lores

    Maybe a fence around the soccer field, torwads the streets would help to prevent accidents and kids running onto the streets? Maybe even a higher fence behind the goal on the south side (directly at the street). Cars driving by and neighbours on the other side of the street would surely appreciate it, as well as parents of kids playing.
    Next, a small building with changing rooms, toilet/shower, lockers, storage for tools and a ride on mower could be added. The pitch looks too nice to be just a neighbourhood pitch that no one cares for.

    I like the forestry surface. It shows signs of human intervention compared to other non tree farm areas. If you have vehicles going there to care for and harvest the trees you would expect the ground to be different.

    I really like "The Devil is in the Details" - it might be your best work yet! (also really like "Moving it with Q") The city tour was great! I love it when you get down into first-person view...it's such a stark difference in how the city looks vs. the usual top-down.
    Lebanon is a great place name for a lumber industry considering that "the cedars of Lebanon" have been famous since antiquity. I think that "Millwood" would be an obvious (punny) name for the new area, but maybe too boring? The lumber area could use more "access" roads both for added realism and...well...you know. Try running them between two differently sized sections that are far from existing roads. In Maine, the access roads will have tiny saplings on one side and mature pines on the other.

    First thing i thought about the football(soccer) field is that there needs to be atleast some kind of fence towards the main road to avoid some stray balls on the street

  • @IlyTheVampire
    @IlyTheVampire 5 месяцев назад +1

    I would probably fence in the soccer field - I know that that wouldn't be a street that carries a ton of traffic, but I still think that there would be the danger of balls and players ending up in the middle of the road.

    I've been thinking how an Industries DLC could look in CS2, and there is some great potential! Take Logging for example; would probably have the most simple raw material system; plant trees, grow trees, harvest logs. But then that produces slash which starts off as garbage in level 1, but at high levels it can be turned into Mulch to help the city's park maintenance. Then your first producer buildings are sawmills which turn the logs into Planed Timber, which can be used in the city and exported to make construction cheaper. But those buildings will produce and store Sawdust which would become rubbish, until a later level where it can be used to make Paper, and in conjunction with the Oil industry's Methanol to create Particle Board.
    Come time to make a Furniture Factory, it can combine Planed Timber and Goods (produced by regular industry) to make basic furniture. But upgrades could allow it to include Particle Board, Textiles and Leather from the Farming industry, and Metals from the Mining industries, to increase the types (and values) of Furniture items it can produce. And instead of increasing it's production with a slider, you can upgrade the building instead.

    • @Eschatonin6666
      @Eschatonin6666 2 месяца назад

      Particle Board furniture could also help citizens who can't afford hardwood furniture, thus extending its market
