    8:22 makes the car more aerodynamic by letting out air trapped in the wheel arches-> reduced air pressure - > reduced air pressure gradient ->reduced drag coefficient & less lift (more down force at the front)

    • @Waltherwermuth7001
      @Waltherwermuth7001 2 года назад +3

      Nahh its not really about the drag. As Andreas Preuniger Head of GT Department said in a podcast they have to do it, because of the amount of downforce at the back of the Car when it comes to RS models. It is necesarry because otherwise the Balance of the Car would suck.

    Porsche saw Singer and realized that the collectible nature of min-maxxed cars is off the charts. E.g. what would happen if you put the best of everything available to Porsche on any given model? GT3RS engine/Trans/suspension/brakes on the 718 model. It's fabulous. It's like the 914-6. Those values are insane right now.

    Hey Doug, just FYI: the logo on the front hood is not only a decal for weight reasons, it's also because embedding it in the carbon fiber hood would increase cost and complicate manufacturing. It's not impossible, just cheaper that way. The put it on every carbon fiber front hood.
    The weight-saving-claim is probably just a marketing thing and negligible.

    Absolutely love this car! I've always been a GT3 RS fan but this is focus driven like Doug said. It's a better track version of a GT3 RS. Some will hate me for saying that but the Mid engine really makes a different with performance. Less chance of oversteer or the rear sliding out on you cause the weight is centralized between the axles. I've only just found this new version of the 718 GT4 RS recently and I love it every bit of it. Doug said it rides terribly when you're on street and it's true, but nobody buys a car like this for the "Comfort". They buy it for show pieces(which I'm not a fan of) or they buy it to fulfill its racing heart. Porsche always has my heart. ❤

    I agree with just about everything you’ve said, I have a 2009 Cayman S that is a complete track car, stripped out interior coil over suspension yada yada yada. I was dying to get my hands on a GT four with a PDK, and was looking forward to this car as well. When I saw that they were basically going to be unobtainable for at least a couple of years, I went and bought a 2019 GT3RS. It’s quite a special car, I don’t regret my choice. And I still have my Cayman. The wife and I both track our cars, and we do about 50 to 60 track days a year.

    One "quirk" of the PDK: if you're cruising around and want to accelerate quickly, floor it and then press a little harder. There is a notch after what you think would be the bottom of the pedal. It instantly drops you into the lowest gear you can be in. Seems like not a lot of people know this.

      Not really. At those price and dougscore levels, every additional point costs a lot more.
      In general, for $100k you can get anything you want. Every dollar you spend above has diminishing return.
      Even worse above 400k, where limited supercars and hypercars are. With those, you are paying for the privilege to show off the fact that you paid more. You don’t get objective advantage for your additional dollars spent there.

      If you think about it, the closer you get to a race car - think series like GT cars from Porsche, GT-R cars from Mercedes - you inevitably lose most of the car's everyday functionality. The comfort goes down, the quality of materials is lower to save weight, but what you gain is a car that drives significantly better, accelerates more agressively. It's a trade-off. As Doug said, this car is for the people who want track-focused car 95% of the time. Everyone else is much better off aiming for a lower-tier Cayman, which is slower, but has all the quality of life equipment and characteristics.

    Good review as always. The GT4 RS is a very nice car, but I am not sure I am feeling the potential $250+k price tag for this car would be considered a good value. Particularly when you have several cars with similar or better performance characteristics (ie., GTR, ZO6) with less expensive price tags. I get the current market and its associated markups, but even still $250K for a Cayman, you'd lose money in that investment. Those who would buy this car over $200k, are lovers of Porsche more than lovers of performance.

    • @jgalt99
      @jgalt99 Год назад +1

      The GT4 cayman is the best "value" performance porsche at ~110-120k after options. It can go between track and street with no worries, you could daily drive it I guess, if you don't have a family. You could option it out for a really comfy interior, or go bare bones and make it a track monster. If you're looking at a car as an investment you're removing joy from the equation. Get on some wait lists, take factory/dealer reps out to crazy parties and buy and sell Lambos and Ferraris, I guess. This car is a step above the GT4 for someone who wants a dedicated track car and for whom the increase in price has no meaning.
