What helped me a little with those random mid-corner oversteers is to go stiffer on the rebounds. It feels like the grip balance changes a lot when releasing the brakes in 1.9

The big difference of opinion about acc ffb is because it changes drastically depending on the car setup. So not always the same car will have the same feeling. This is really cool and is one of the strengths of acc on my opinion.

Thanks for the info/tips, Jardier! I'm loving the 1.9 update. I have about 300-400hrs in the 991.2 and loving the new 992. I was away from ACC for about a year but this is bringing me back in. A bit of stability to work out with the new update, the drifting happens in a few corners too. Overall just loving the game the happy to keep going for years.

  • @maxrohrig4104
    @maxrohrig4104 Год назад +13

Hey Jardier, I didn't drove ACC since the update yet, but I'm studying automotive engineering and it seems that the new 1.9 Version is really comparable to the real life. So here are some tips/explanations for your mid corner oversteer problem.
    1. The Tyres in ACC now have flex, and that means that the sides of your tires deforming under lateral force. The peak or maximum deform is reached when the lateral forces are maximum, so in mid corner. Then it could be possible, that the tyre flex is so high that the tyre contact point gets smaller. The result is less grip. In this case you want higher pressures since the tyres are flexing less with higher pressures (as Aris also explained in his livestreams). But higher pressures often mean more graining. So here you have to find a good compromise.
    2. For this point you should know that tyres have limited grip for all directions. If you are braking and turning the tyre have to compromise one movement, because the tyre only have a limited amount of grip and have to split this for braking and turning. This is also the reason why trailbraking is so important. The moment the oversteer takes place is exactly that moment when you are fully releasing the brakes. In that moment you stop to ask the tyre for braking force so now the tyre has more grip for turning. And because the brake balace is more on the front this force gap is bigger at the front as it is on the rear. So the front tyres can build more transversal forces. In result the balance of the car is shifting to the front (because the transversal forces are growing more in the front than in the rear tyres) and the car oversteers.
    3. When you are releasing the brake the cars weigth transfer is shifting back to the rear. So in this case there is a movement in your suspension and therefor damping takes place. If you get oversteer in this case you can try to soften the rear slow bump settings. Because the car is pitching to the rear if you are releasing the brakes (or get on the accelerator). But if the rear bump is to stiff the tyres can't build enough grip and it causes oversteer. So simply try to soften the rear slow bump or stiffen the front slow rebound since a slower rebound is allowing the spring to press the car up at the front (so a rotation to the rear).
    4. You can also try to add more negative camber, but only if your camber settings are not that extrem as it was normal in 1.8.
If you try this tips I would be happy to know if something helped or maked the problem even worse. Good luck

In 3rd point in one sentence you said to soften rear bump, then later on to stiffen it. If i understand setups correctly and what you are trying to say: oversteer under braking (or after releasing brake) -> make the rear slow bump softer for the car to change its balance to the rear more easly?

I think ACC should be following SRO events more closer and changing the BOP more regularly. As it is the licensed SRO game. It should be receiving car BoP updates like Sports games pump out player rating changes....
Because I just watched Monza SRO, and as an avid AMG fan, it was the BMW that was the clear fastest straight line speed.... So there should be no reason we turn on the game and have AMG being the king of Monza. it isn't 2022 anymore, its 2023, and hopefully we dont have to wait until 2024 to drive a BoP that actually mimics real life...

    Hi Jardier
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
This is kindofa long response but since you asked.....
For me, I am really happy for the upgrade and the DLC.
I watched Aris's pre-release videos and had a good idea what to expect. I also watched the release race, watching my favorite content creaters -- so lots of time on you-tube. 🙂
My first experience driving on Thursday evening, was that my home grown setups and my Coach Dave (CDA) and HYMO setups are complete do-overs. I'm an average racer, with a modest 1:68.97 best at Misano in the McLaren. I have modest skills for set ups, learning as I go. It takes me a lot of hours to develop a set-up I'm comfortable with. So rather than go racing, I spent my first 6 hours in the game starting over with setups. Testing and tweaking , with lots of hot lapping. The McLaren, is my car of choice, and CDA and HYMO wont have new V1.9 compatible setups for that car for awhile.
I like the new tire model and wider target pressure range. I am finding definate handling differences between higher and lower pressures. Finally settling on 26.7 as good target for what I like to feel. I really like that it doesn't have to be exact.
The force feedback is different and better, for me. I have CSL DD with McLaren V2 wheel, on a GT Omega Prime Rig.
Again, having watched Aris Tyre and Suspension video, I had a good idea of what to expect and found the little bit of vagueness at wheel center pretty easy to correct with minor toe and camber adjustments that made positive improvements in time and feel.
There is endless tweaking still to go with dampers, aero and maybe differential. I haven't been able to break 1:38 yet since V1.9.
I want to be a safe and competive racer in my class so am not going anywhere near LFM for a bit, which is disappointing. But is on me and my lack of confidence in my ability.
I enjoy and appreciate the realistic approach Kunos has taken in giving us so much more than a game. At the same time I'm a little whistful over how challenging and time consuming it is for somone like me to get consitent, reliable behaviors from a car that I feel confident driving at its, and my limit.

I jumped straight into a race in kyalami and had no idea what was going on with my car! It was like someone (my wife maybe) had broken it. I retired for fear of more embarrassment and tried a race at monza only to be 3 seconds slower and myself even more confused as to why my McLaren was going everywhere but where I wanted it to. I only realised after someone told me about the update on the chat. Since then, I really like it. I took the opportunity to ditch my McLaren and try the merc and so far, it's going really well. Love the fact the tires need more care and attention and I may even try another race tonight now I'm getting used to it!

I had just started driving the 488 again a few days before the update and I stand by your statement about the changes to the suspension behaviour. The brakes do feel weird at times, like they have a mind of their own, on the 296. But overall in my opinion it can be a good starter car. I'm looking forward to start driving the 992 now. I never dared to drive the 991 but after hearing how much work has gone into the newer car, it could be my next favourite. Also, don't know if it was just me, but why did you start looking redder as the video went on? Lol..

Great video Jards - The update was needed, but again they make it hard on players with such little information on how the setups work that everyone needs communities to understand whats going on. Motec isn't a suitable option - they need to add some better setup diagnostics in the game to help players setup the car and get more out of the sim, we're not racing engineers!!

Yeah I keep saying that, I even made forum post about complexity of the setup and there is zero info in the game, you dont even know the pressures correctly in game... I hate it personally the little info. Not everyone knows where to go and search to find the info :(

overall i think the changes brought some improvement to the way the cars handle,
but on some setups the FFB feels really messed up,
the bouncing is another werid thing, I had some moments with the M4 at Spa, in "no name" (or speakers corner), when you go over the kerb on the inside , I had some unsavable bouncing spins

Biggest changes for me are the FF and the tyre/suspension behavior.
I drove the Audi Evo on Valencia and immediately felt a different FF, much more informative and connected to the track, but when I try it on SPA it did not feel as connected, but still better than before.
You indeed have to be more careful how you setup car for race, on suspension geometry and tyre temps, as well as drive more careful. I reduced camber and toe for race session, and while it helped me keep my tyres safe compared to other drivers, they were pretty worn on a 45 minute stint, which means I still need to lower the settings a bit more and drive more smooth (which I believe I usually do).
The new Ferrari is fantastic, it does not feel like the other Ferraris. This one feels way much better balanced and predictable.
I believe we still will need more time to understand and get familiar with ACC 1.9, for me a new sim compared to 1.8.x. Hope there will be no more magical settings that exploits physics engine holes.

i havnt had time to drive much. but i think what you are experiencing when you start sliding (like around 15:30) is bottoming the suspention out on the bumps. that corner has quite a bit of camber and since the bumpstops are not infinite anymore. when you hit the end of travel on the bumpstop, the spring rate becomes infinite, which makes you lose grip.
its really just a guess from my few hours of testing. but i think it makes sense

Yeah I noticed this for the brake of the 296..on Kyalami..sometimes I brake earlier and sometimes later compared to 488…296 the new M4 ? Sad…Concerning the update I totally agree with you concerning softness of suspensions. When I upgraded to 1.9 I first tried 488 I was used to drive, agressive setup then go setups. Conclusion is that the go setup was too much soft..for example almost impossible to enter the chicane on Watkins. Concerning the behaviour of the car entering a corner, I had difficulties to catch the apex on 1.8 when releasing the brake, the car had oversteer or understeer. Now I keep better the line and noticed the exit oversteer you talk about but it’ s linear and controllable, not brutal as before but yeah more pronounced. So yeah, great update. Just sad that so much people drive Ferrari now, she should be reserved for former 488 drivers 😅, us only deserve it 😊

id say with the cars getting launched over curbs, it has to do with the contact physics between the car and the ground, where the car model clips into the ground and makes it go boing

the worst thing for me now is the last you said. Some behaviors over the curbs are too strange. The car bounces a lot and I hate it. The FFB is "more" but not better, the sliding is annoying, the new Ferrari seems a front engine car, but it is still ACC. The new tire model seems good, the temps are more natural I believe. The worst FFB by far if you compare it to AC1, AMS2 or Rfactor 2

I spent two hours today playing with ffb settings and have started to get it somewhere how it felt with 1.8. This is after complaining like a child for nearly a week. The sudden loss of grip is clearly an issue and not something that is seen in real life so need to be dealt with in my opinion. Prior to changing my ffb it felt like the front wheels were made of wood and covered in butter. I could have cried, I love this game with 1000 hours over the year. It still isn't great but it is better and usable. Some cars though I am now up to 3 seconds a lap slower than I was. Not sure whats going on there. On the plus side the lap delta seems to be a little bit more accurate and on the downside, if you stray too close to the grass or edge of the circuit it can be massively unpredictable which is so over the top and not accurate to real life. I liked 1.8 as it encouraged tidy and accurate driving, now its just a little too slidy. For me its killed the speed buzz a little bit. Don't trash me, its just my observations.

ACC is so different. I haven't been playing for a month as I swapped pedals. So on top of the pedals difference it feels like starting all new. No old setup work on the M4. Engine braking alone coupled with old setups generate a ridiculous weight transfer. I have the back of the car lifting by just releasing the brake. We need much stiffer setups that keep the car balance in place. Even an advanced setup doesn't mitigate this issue. I'm trying in Suzuka where I used to do the multiple "s" by pushing and releasing the accelerator, but I find it quite difficult. Need different setups.

@Jardier i would love to know what you think about my Example. You described it in the Porsche like you lost the Grip completely sometimes in the Corner. I got that aswell i think in the AMG. Especially on Watkins (same Corner as in the Video) and Monza (Lesmo1) AND at the same time the whole FFB or the Feeling of the Front goes away. I almost got a complete light Steering and almost no Feeling and FFB in that Case. It p*sses me off a bit xD I think i figured out, that going like 27.0 to 27.2 PSI makes it a bit better. It felt way better for me.
You had the same Issue in the Porsche with the light Steering? And maybe some Tips to get rid of it?
    Cheers! :)

      @Jardier  Год назад

Hey mate, hmmm hard to tell cause with FFB you can change so many things including slip, so thats probably personal preference. But generally if you are sliding or without grip ffb should be lighter (same in real car). But you can add more caster to have more strong ffb naturaly :)
