  • Watch our full review of both the version 1.9 physics updates and the 2023 GT World Challenge DLC for Assetto Corsa Competizione on PC. Let us know if you've picked up the new pack, or have any questions, in the comments below!
V1.9 adds a new tyre model that better monitors tyre pressures and temperatures across the rubber, plus revised damping, bump stops and force feedback. In the end, car behaviour over kerbs should be more lenient and extreme negative toe set-ups are a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, the 2023 GT World Challenge DLC includes the following:
    Cars
    Ferrari 296 GT3
    Lamborghini Evo2 GT3
    Porsche 911 GT3 R (992)
    Track
    Ricardo Tormo Circuit (Valencia)
The Lamborghini also includes a new brake map feature, more details here: traxion.gg/new...
Download free PC ACC Valencia set-ups, used by John Munro to win in the launch-evening content creator event, here: traxion.gg/ass...
The update and DLC are expected for both PlayStation and Xbox, but at the time of publication, we have not received clarification.

Great review. You guys do such a great job. Also valid point on tire pressure.
Even though I’m on console, I’m looking forward to this update. Sometimes I hate messing around getting the pressure correct. Like you said now with a wider range it should be a lot easier and better to pick up and play, especially when you have limited time to sim race.

I just love this new DLC. The new physics finally gave some feel to the G29 wheel. The Audi is finally properly powered. Even better now with just the aggressive setup, my times dropped by almost a full second from my personal best. At Monza in 1.8 it was a miracle if i could go sub 1:48:5, now steady race pace of 1:47:7 w/o any aggression on the curbs and the corners; just smooth cruising.
The Ferrari is awesome to drive, although it sounds like a dumper truck, especially compared to the new high RPMs of the R8's V10. In a couple of races following an R8 i couldn't hear my own Ferrari engine so i hit the limiter a couple of times. But what i love the most about that DLC is the shift in pace it did. No longer are there people running 2-3 seconds a lap faster than the real life world record. The front of the pack is now much more compacted, the top 7 times are now all under a second difference, instead of the usual 1-2 seconds 1st to 2nd place. Absolutely astonishing update.

I must admit the game is drastically different! I understand people used the toe hack but the truth is you can achieve race lap times similar to eSports guys with out using those gimmicks!
I watched a streamer use the gimmick toe set up at Hungaroring and then compare it to 1.9.. What bothers me most is version 1.8 did allow for toe hacks and some other ridiculous set up gimmicks but at the same time a proper set up, when the time is taken on motec to get it set up right can also be quick.
That streamers gimmick lap times on the Hungaroring were 1:44s. My 30 min stint using the same car (the Audi Evo 2) with a legitimate set up (a couple adjustments to the bump stop and a few clicks here and there on Damping) netted me identical times. My slowest lap was 1:44.7 and my fastest was 1;44.2.
Now I definitely agree the hot lap times were ridiculously faster with the physics exploits but when it came to fuel tanks with 70-20 liters of fuel the lap times between a legitimate, realistic set up created with motec and a exploit set up aren't much different if at all..
Those same set ups I created for the Audi Evo 2 using motec are now significantly slower and have significantly less grip in the front and in the rear at corner exit!
It literally feels like I'm over driving a big heavy street car with under inflated tires in version 1.9. I personally feel like they made all cars feel like GT4 cars!
See the great thing about GT3 cars and the GT3 series around the world is the fact the cars are extremely stable and easy to drive compared to some other race classes. That's why they have Pro-Am and other lower level classes like silver.
Version 1.8 was difficult for the average sim racer who wanted to hop on and race. Version 1.9 will be an absolute nightmare requiring hours of testing car set ups to get the tires correct .
The days of being able to hop on and use the default aggressive set up is gone!
My normal times at say Barcelona which isn't a great track for me is 1;44's. I was struggling to get 1:46s consistently with the occasional 1:45.
My normal time at Imola in the Audi Evo 2 with a legitimate non exploit set up was 1:41.5/9. 1:42s with a full tank of fuel.
Hopped on and did some laps using the same legitimate set up minus some PSI and my lap times were 1:43-1:44 over 2 seconds slower and it feels like I'm fighting the tires every step of way, especially in the first couple laps when their colder!
GT3 cars are supposed to feel planted and stable. Not like they are riding on mush. As an example, under ideal conditions the Merc put up a 2 min flat qualifying lap at Bathurst a few weeks ago. Reason being the GT3 cars are extremely stable and balanced in real life! Exactly what they aren't in version 1.9.
When version 1.8 first came out I thought it was awesome. The added feel I got thru the wheel was insane. Then over the course of a few updates that added feel faded away. In Version 1.9 I feel like I can't feel anything but the tire sidewalls rolling over.
Online lobbies in 1.8 were already full of players spinning out off curbs and going around corners. Making it even more pronounced and easier to spin or lose front grip will make online lobbies full of multi car crashes and players flying off track into walls!
What makes a simulation game great is being able to hop on and drive a car fairly well with the stock set ups regardless of what wheel base you use!! I literally went back and updated my drivers and firmware to make sure that wasn't the reason the cars felt so weird!!
The new physics model makes the cars feel like I'm racing 1960's muscle cars on soft side wall tires vs 2023 GT3 race cars with firm, wide tires!!
Hopefully it gets better with some hot fixes.. but as or right now I'd rather go back to 1.8 or abandon the game all together! They over thought this physics model and imo it's a big miss so far..

In one year I have done nearly 1000 hours of ACC. This latest update is the biggest disappointment ever. The front of the car feels like its on ice/glass/oil. I used to actually get a buzz from driving ACC but unfortunately that has now gone with numb front ends, zero feeling and sudden losses of grip that are nothing like real world driving. If the game stays like this, i'm done with it after loving it first on PS and then for the lasy year on PC. I don't know what else to say.
