  • This is the Costco haul to end all Costco hauls! We decided with all this pandemic stuff happening that perhaps we should stock up a little more on groceries. We went early, got two carts, and seriously loaded up! Let's see how long it lasts!

Costco is great, but there are many, many things, maybe A LOT of things that will go bad before you eat them because of being bulk, UNLESS you have a large family. If you buy frozen, your in good shape, but like fresh veggies our family of three has to have Brussel sprouts every meal for a week. But goodness, so hard to pass up that huge bag for 4.50 ! Sometimes I will blanch veggies and freeze. The boxes of cereal contain two larger than normal packages in each box, so if you want variety, say four of five diff cereals, your gonna have A LOT of cereal to eat before it goes stale. But cooked rotisserie chickens for 5 bucks are amazing, (but are not organic) I make chicken salad from them. Hope you can check it out sometime, it may fit your family. 60 bucks a year or 120.00. Knorpps prob do the 120.00 cuz they send you back your 120 or more, the more you spend. Cheers!

@@TheVintageBumbleBee I'm in the same boat. I keep trying to find someone close to me to split vegetables with because the prices are so amazing. However, like you I have a family of three, so we don't get through things before they go south. Plus two of us have food allergies, so it's even more complicated. For large families, like my brother Costco is epic! The membership is definitely worth it even for our family of three.

So be mindful, specially our elderly, they need the food and our support. I have faith we are going to be fine. My children and I work receiving and delivering food. We still active and healthy. When this current emergency is over, you might want to think about starting your emergency food storage. I know it was hard to do while traveling, but now that you have a home base, you should be able to do it. I built ours up gradually over a couple years, just buying a few extra items each month, and we could get buy eating fairly normally for a couple months now - with beans, rice, oatmeal, and powdered milk (all available fairly cheap through the church website) for the better part of a year. While everyone else has been panic buying, we just needed to top off the foods and such we already had on hand.

Glad you guys are stocked up and very understandable when you have a large family.
Our best bet for any shopping at all is the small wholefood type shops that are getting in regular deliveries from local suppliers which is better quality and at least supports the smaller places.
Is all very odd here - we are down in the south of England and it feels like people are either carrying on as normal or on the other extreme and stockpiling meaning people that need supplies can't access them.

I always shop just once a month to save money. I read an article years ago about the average amount of money people spend shopping and how it's linked to the amount of times they shop per month. The article said that most people tend to go grocery shopping 2 to 3 times a week and end up buying a lot of things they don't really need. On the other hand, people who shopped only once a month stuck to a list of the essentials and spent much less. I began doing that and it shed $350.00 off of our grocery bill a month. I fill 2 carts heaping over, and only groceries, no toiletries at all. We feed 5 people for $520.00 a month. That is also with buying extra each month because we stock up in case of an emergency. If more people shopped that way, they would save a lot of money!

After the delivery I had multiple bladder infections. I nursed 15 months and at postpartum 12 months I started having high blood pressure. I actually went to the emergency room with blood pressure 155 because of chest pain. I started having panic attacks and so the dr tested my blood for deficiencies. I had a vitamin d deficiency, magnesium deficiency, low calcium levels. All this happened 3 years ago. I told my dr I was vegan, and she said for heaven sake please eat meat. Hi Knorpp family, we live in Germany, near Cologne. We already have security guards in front of some supermarkets so that there aren't too many people in the store at the same time. Toilet paper is hard to come by, but so is flour and pasta. Our schools, kindergartens and universities are closed, as are shops and restaurants. We should all reduce our social contacts so that we protect high-risk groups, especially old and immunodeficient people. Germany is fighting to contain the virus so that we can save time. The number of infections is increasing every day and our hospitals are working flat out to build additional intensive care units for corona patients. If we look to Italy, we now have to act quickly in Germany, because the situation is serious. Our children are provided with teaching materials via app and we now teach our children as parents, alongside we work in the home office. We pray to God that these restrictions, which last at least five weeks, can contain the virus. I wish you all the best and stay healthy! 🙏🏻💕

Took me going to three shops last week to get the basics.Getting better now in Australia as the supermarkets are putting limits of 2 items on essentials but even still last week there was barely any meat. Feel sorry for the elderly and the disabled who may only be able to go once a week for a shop. They had an hour in the morning dedicated to pensioners and those with disabilities when the shops opened but even at that time things were missing. This is really bringing out the worst in some people and the very best in others
