- Since we're traveling full time in an RV, we can't get as much at Costco as we used to! Luckily we still know how to pack a ton into the RV! After our Costco trip we visited the Asian market to grab some more ingredients so Daniel could try his hand at cooking!

This vlog literally brought tears to my eyes.... What wonderful parents you guys are that you take the time to keep your children's heritage alive. As an adoptive mother myself (domestic) I watch tons of videos on families who adopt. Yours is the first one I've ever seen where parents actually take their children to the store to cook and to learn about the culture in which they came from. I just love you guys and I hope many parents find this channel. You both set a great example for all adoptive parents, including me. Wow!
notocha coe well said!!!
+notocha coe - 👊❤️
notocha coe I 100% agree
supergran62 it so emotional
notocha coe elijah is soooo good looking
the fact you knew the peppers were too much but gave him the freedom to learn for himself was great. love the casual learning too. thanks for sharing
"it smells like Peter's earwax" haha Pearl is such a funny girl! 😂😊
Daniel was so sweet going through the store and cooking. What a beautiful boy.
Love how you knew it was going to be too spicy but you showed Daniel you trusted him and went with his plan. It creates such love and confidence in our kids to parent this way, I love watching it in your videos! Thanks for sharing this slice of (Costco) life. Adore you guys!
Daniel will be such a great blessing to your younger Chinese children.
A mother's love heals all the pain of her children.

You and This Gathered Nest has inspired me to adopt children in the future. I'm only 13 but I'm planning ahead 😊
Kristen Choong I watch This Gathered Nest too! And yes, both channels have also helped me decide to adopt in the future. My fiance and I won't be able to apply until we've been married for 2 years, but as of now, that's the plan. :)

Kristen Choong same! They are so caring and sweet families. Truly an inspiration
Kristen Choong I plan on having twins and a few adoptions kids, I feel like I should have children from my culture
Kristen Choong I am 2
I love how much of Daniel I saw in today's video! I'm always so interested to see how he's adjusting being an older adoption and all. Makes me happy to see a snippet of his happiness on here.
I want to have a child like Esther, she's so bright, she always smile, she respects others and sometimes she's very shy which is cute. I wish I was like her when I was a kid.
Oh my goodness. You guys have so much patience! Most people loose their minds with one child in Costco.
This was hilarious! Poor Daniel! He just wanted to share his childhood dish with his family. I would love to see more "cooking with kids" in the future! Love everything you do, Megan!
+Joanne Song - haha! It was sooo hot! We cook with our kids nearly every evening so I'll try and include it more!
Maybe put them in whole - and then take them out before eating - like you would with a bay leaf
It makes me happy to see that you let your children take care of the culture they were born in to :) And also that you are teaching them to cook :)
Its cool that Daniel can write in Chinese
and speak Chinese. Do you have any dietary restrictions as Mormons?
Shari Newman he comes from China so why would he not
storm winters some kids forget, it depends on how they were when they got adopted. since I don't know what age he was when he was adopted how am I supposed to know
Well they have videos on meeting each kid go on an type one of the kids name an learn all about it
storm winters when I have time
I love how Daniel is all interested in cooking. And hey, at least he tried with the hash browns. LOL!! It looked really good, but like you said, I bet he just used too many peppers. But he seems like he would make a pretty good cook.
I love how this family is so diverse and loving and how they include everyone.
Absolutely loved watching you cook with Daniel. I'd have had my hands in there cutting stuff and you just let him do it, which really is the only way to learn and I applaud you for that! Hope Asher's eyes felt better pretty soon...I've done that myself and it's not fun.
When Daniel turned 18, he could just pushed through with your mineral oil business thru his Chinese language. No shade but that could be his one great skill :)
I love the Asian market, there is one a few miles from my house, I go often, the kids love it. I cook with fish sauce sometimes but the kids wouldn't ever eat what I cook if I told them, all because of the smell. It truly IS the magic ingredient!
Wendy DeLaney There's one more asian ingredients called "terasi" in Indonesia. It made from fermented tiny shrimp, and turned it into thick paste/cake. Smell more bade than fish sauce, but it taste reaaalllyyyyy good and has a lot of proteins. Usually I put it into most Indonesian chilly sauce, or add it into fried rice and many other recipee. I even add it into vegetables that I cooked, and my kids loved it very much!
Omg hahahaha Eve is living her own life. She's adorable hahaha i cracked up when she walked down singing and dad call her for dinner and asking if she is listening to music and with a big smile "YEAAAAH". You guys living my dream
Loved this vlog!
Loved seeing Daniel so much in this one and seeing him so passionate about cooking 😊
I think it's really great that you encourage the kids and your entire family to be informed about their culture. I think that's really special. Culture is so important for so many kids and it's sad to see it lost.
2 vids in one day! What a great Wednesday. With all the craziness that is going on in the country today, watching your videos helps bring me back to my happy place. Thank you.
You guys are great parents! I think cutting up and cracking the peppers is what made the dish too spicy, usually i see them whole in Chinese dishes. Have you posted a video yet about how you turned you financial life around? You both are so inspirational!
Betsy Leigh I agree cutting them opened made them so much hotter! I love love love hot stuff but even those peppers are hot to me
That look on Mom's face when Daniel said to leave the seeds in -- 😂. But poor Asher. 🙁
I just found your family and the little one wearing the Fox Tshirt. She melts my heart!! I think I have found a new family to watch!!
My Korean wife and I shop at Asian markets all the time, so I really enjoyed watching you and your family go through that one.
You probably already know this but a good remedy for hot food is milk. Water just spreads it around (I think).
Thank you for the interesting shopping experience.
This vlog is the first time finding you guys, and can I just say that I INSTANTLY loved you all!
+Catie and the Bo Peeps - awe, man - thanks!
"When we picked him up in China" Jesus Christ 😂
I am addicted to your vlogs. Love seeing a real family with parents that establish healthy boundaries, responsibility, and values in their children.
Probably won't help with something that spicy but if you add lemon juice to something that's overly spicy it will tone down the spicy.
Seeing the big kids having fun in the Asian market is the sweetest!
Great vlog lovely to see Meghan encouraging the kids to talk about their life in China.Thankyou for sharing and well done Daniel with the cooking.
love how as parents, you 2 really involve yourself and the other children in each childs interest independently. (such as his cooking) That is so amazing for their growth and self confidence. love all the videos!💕
You are so patient, it is nice of you to take time for each of the kids
Your family is so goals! Love how you all worked together and ate the really spicy food!
Esther is so adorable and has the cutest smile ever 💜💜💜
You can tell Daniel is in his element (: He must really like to cook and share his culture with his siblings!
You're literally my favorite RUclips family. I wish I could see you guys every day in here, but I do understand it's not possible. You're an awesome mother. I loved how you took just these three in the chinese market, it really means a lot to them. It's just their time, they can tell you what foods and things they liked while they were still in China. Maybe you could have "date nights" for the kids too? 2-3 kids at a time, go somewhere where they would like to (or even just a walk outside with just few of them) and just talk about things you normally wouldn't be able to discuss when everyone's around asking for something.
Keep going, can't wait for the next video! Lots of love from Finland!
What a refreshing difference than the usual at home family vlogs. I think I may really enjoy y'all! This first one(for me) was awesome!
I can't stop laughing when the kids were smelling the fish sauce!
+Sonya Nguyen 👃🐟
Whew!! Here's some pepper help for the future I thought I'd share - Cutting the peppers releases the seeds, which are where the real heat is ....... The source of the heat in peppers is an oil, (capsicum) so the best way to remove the heat is with plain rice, plain bread, tortillas etc, to absorb the oils. Yogurt helps too. If you use milk, whole milk works best, but not as good as rice or breads do.
A little cooking or olive oil on a soft cloth would help remove the pepper oil from the skin around the eyes. Poor Asher!! Hope he is feeling better now! That is very painful.
The Asian market sure looked fun! And Daniel's food looked great!
I listen to This American Life every week. I cried too. I'm sure the people on my train think I'm a super emotional person, cause I'm always laughing or crying at the podcasts I listen to.
Will you ask Daniel to post the recipe for the hashbrowns? Looks so good.
GarriLyn Howard However, I will be just using one pepper!😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
+GarriLyn Howard - I don't know if he can since it's all in Chinese! I'll see about that!
Yes please!!! I want to try and make it with less peppers of course... My american palate can't take 20 dry peppers maybe 5! lol
ladyindeed I'm such a wimp when it comes to spicy foods, 5 would be too many!
lol
I was hoping to see your Costco total. Lol
Me too. I thought it might make me feel better about my total. ;-)
You can barely see it but I think it was something like $346. Seems pretty reasonable for a family that large!
Allen3697 I have a family on 4 and we spend that much
Nikki Welsh I think that's bit silly for just 4
Steph Starrett but we eat all different things as well. I live in Australia, so prices are different over here
Daniel are you trying to kill your family with that pepper.. hehehe.. I think Daniel will be the next best chef when he grows up... good luck Daniel..
At the costco i work at, Tuesday Wednesday are the slowest days as far as human traffic. but shhhh its a secret :P
Daniel (and the rest of the kids) are just too cute!! Love your family so much!!!
You are a bunch of beautiful people ! I laugh out loud and cry during every vlog!
+MeVsAging - ❤️
Daniel seems like such a sweet boy! :)
I am a new subscriber and I just want to say that you are an incredible mother. I hope that your channel inspires others to think about the possibility of adoption. There are so many children out there without a family who want to be apart of a family. Your channel is truly inspirational. Keep doing what you're doing. 💕
It's so neat that Daniel wanted to cook for the whole family!
I don't think I could ever get sick of watching your vlogs!! thanks so much for sharing them :)
I love your videos! I'm also touched by the fact that you include the traditional foods for all the kids. you are setting a great example
I cant believe he put 20 chili peppers in that dish OMG , you guys are saints letting him make that dish, thank god for the pot stickers!!!! :-) :-) :-)
This really inspires me. Praising God and so thankful that God has blessed you both with such a big heart. I believe it takes obedience to adopt and love the orphan. You two exemplify exactly that. Thank you. Someday, I hope to adopt. ❤
You are both amazing and I love your family. I was touched on how you treat your kids like they really came from you😢
It's great how u support ur kids in everything there interested in!!:)
I really enjoyed this vlog! Also cool that Daniel is getting into cooking! He seems like such a sweet kid!
Just found your channel. Love your relationship with your children! So sweet amd respectful. We just adopted our second child, love seeing how you talk about first families in everyday life
Glad you went to Asian Market, keeping the kids heritage alive
I just happened on this channel. Y'all are such a sweet family, I wanna cry!
so many kids.....im so overwhelmed. like i want to run away to a quiet spot of my own. at least it never get boring.
You have the most patience and love with your kids. enjoy watching you ALL. God bless you and yours always
I'm such a sookie la la! I cried my eyes out when you were in the Market talking to Esther about her mum and how she would cook. Such wonderful parents to keep their memories alive 💖💖
You, thisgatherednest and life with Kim and Lizzie are my absolute favourite RUclips families, and I'm always equally super excited whenever I see that any of you guys have posted a new video. The hash browns looked delicious! I hope Daniel will make them again for you guys in the future but with alot less chilli lol but he did a great job. Sending love from the UK :) x
I have anxiety watching this video I give you guys props you guys stayed so calm
I'm from a family of 9 kids. You're the first channel I've found that's a big family the same size that I had! Love it!
+Freckle Finance - awesome! Big families rule! 🤓
You guys must be master organizers and packers!
Hey Megan, organized chaos! Had fun watching you guys. Daniel is so focused! My mother in law said that my husband and she would cook together when he was a young boy. Although he became a police officer for his profession, he still loves cooking. I believe he missed his calling.
I really enjoyed this video. Love all the kids and how well behaved And respectful they are.
"It smells like Peter's earwax" HAHAHA
how awesome to have kids from another country you must learn something new each day!
Love that you let you kiddos get back to their roots by letting them do different things that they did in their country. And Pearl saying "it smells like Peters ear wax" had me rollin' 😂😁😀
So glad that I found your family. You're honestly so amazing for giving these kids a better opportunity. They all are so beautiful!
You don't eat the spicy dried peppers. It's just for aroma and enhance the other ingredients flavors.
I swear there life is not as chilled as this
I just love the way you live. You are such a big heart young couple. This is amazing how you bring a family together from all different ethnicities.
Love you all
You truly are an amazing family full of love and patience!
Just found your family on the recommended side bar. 2 videos in and you already have me hooked! You have such a beautiful family and can't wait to watch more!
Daniel - you are great.
All the best for your future as a chef but please always follow your heart and dreams.
Hahaha. The potato dish looked good. Too bad about the pepper overkill.
Hugs for poor Asher. I remember helping my mum in the kitchen chopping fresh red chili peppers at home and then wiping my mouth immediately after. Ouuuuuuuuch. :(
How do they let you adopt kids if you live in an RV? Not trying to be mean, I'm just curious.
+Megan A, we weren't living in the RV when we adopted.
Megan A surely it's a roof over their heads in a loving family? rather than being stuck in some home because no one wants them
Megan A they are only in rv for the summer to travel the world they said it's temporary
T F i thought they were doing it for 1 1/2 years
Megan A im wondering how many rooms they have in there house they have to have at least 6 because each adopted child has to have there own room unless u adopt twins or brother and sister
aww bless wanting to make dinner and him learning the knife skills was awesome could see the bonding
how can you guys dealing with the screams "mom dad mom dad look at me mom dad mom dad" I can't even imagine. you guys are very calm and patience
Oh this looks so fun ....shopping , cooking & eating together adventure ...something different
First time viewer of your blog and I'm hooked. Was wonderful watching you shopping and teaching your son to cook.
Watching on 01/07/2022... Love love this video. Looking back at the kids so young and small. It was great seeing the kids at the Asian store. Reminiscing about what they had in China. Seeing Daniel cooking and Megan guiding him 💓 poor Asher I wanted to cry. The boys faces smelling the fish sauce and Pearl didn't seem to mind. Catching up on all the videos I haven't watched.
OMG I felt so bad for poor Asher. Great vlog, be neat to see come of the culinary awesomeness some of the other kids cook up too.
You are such a sweet Momma!! Love how Daniel was so eager to make y'all dinner and my gosh, Esther is beautiful! Sending your family love from East Tennessee!
I cried listening to that segment of This American Life too. Asian sauces, fish sauce is in every Thai dish known mankind! Oyster sauce is think like ketchup (did you know ketchup is Chinese for a generic sauce or mix) and is milder than the fish sauce. It is the dark sauce served in Chinese restaurants with broccoli. Also and I know this sounds weird, buy a bunch of chicken wings/drumlets cover with oyster sauce, a ton of cinnamon and lime juice. Best chicken wings you've ever had! The kids will love them!!
I hope Daniel doesn't get discouraged and tries again. That's how it is sometimes when your trying a new recipe. you have to just things to your taste. God bless him for trying :)
I'm a single mom of 7 kids and I just went to Costco on Sunday. That store is a life saver having a large family :)
I'm glad I found your channel :) I look forward to watching more videos :)
oyster sauce is great on rice when your frying it. It gives it a gloss to the rice and helps to keep the rice from being to sticky. I don't really taste the oyster taste much.
Mary L I never heard oyster sauce on a rice! I will try that next time
When i fry my own rice i use oyster sauce. It helps the rice from from being to clumpy or sticky. It helps the rice mix evenly if that makes sense
You know that is a Korean market not Chinese. Just so you teach him that there's difference in food and culture. Trying to help.
Soo Kim they never said it was a Chinese market they just said it was an Asian marker
market*
The mother said chineses but it doesn't matter because knowing the difference is important to asians, well it is for me and I would hope for you too. Have a good day!
ya
She said Asian market.... girls stop reaching...
Now thats what ive been wanting to see, how the family functions inside the Rv!!!
wow all the kids probably keep you busy. ha A trip to Costco to buy lots of food. All your kids are so great and so beautiful
Such a fun family and you are such a great mom!!
Patis!! Yes...that is THE secret ingredient ;D Such a wonderful son cooking for all of you - so special. Costco is one big crazy ordeal for me personally...an adventure with your large family ;) TFS!
I'm a new subscriber! I'm going to binge watch all your videos because I'm hooked after just this video!
