We are ALWAYS at the grocery store and Costco so this year we decided to do all of our holiday and Christmas meal shopping from home! Today's Costco haul didn't require us to even leave the house!

I was an instacart shopper and delivery person. #1 we are NOT supposed to bring groceries past the door. Obviously it is each person's discretion but for our safety it is not supposed to be done. (I do for disabled and/or elderly). Also, the pay is very, very low and we depend on tips for a living wage. Many days I made less than minimum wage when tips were low. It is alot like being a server...tips are everything.

Shopping this way encourages LOW wages. Same thing when shopping Amazon = LOW WAGES to their employees. It also jeopardizes smaller business going out of business. The whole thing is horrible and should be avoided.
I feel bad,my company has the groceries delivered. We help get the load out of their car, but my boss doesn't allow us to tip them (mainly because we can't get a receipt for it).
Most ppl do tip in the app but they don't realize that the service fees and delivery fees don't go straight to the driver so tips are low. A good way to tip is like a server. 15% of your bill.

Friends of ours drove 1.5 hours to go to the new Cosco in Shanghai, China today. They brought us back pizza and bagels for Christmas! Now those are good friends!

Hello lovelies...It is the.day before Christmas in our neck of woods. You have a houseful sweet Megan...and how great is it you can do your groceries like that. Last night we did the food shopping..we live in a rural area so none of the wonderful services like you have over there. Yes I was feeling like the Christmas Grinch..'.Do I have to, I don't want to . ' Fauve...my beautiful daughter..showed no mercy, but she did show utter kindness [ like your Esther so often does ]..swooping about she grabbed her perfume and shonk, a spray of it befell me , grabbed the hairbrush etc...abracadabarra and before I knew it we were in the car and on our way. Happily I can report our quest was completed....I even felt inspired after that. Alison has a big load this time of year...and it so fantastic she has you all so close by...and vice versa of course. Her little girl is incredibly pretty and Esther is just brilliant with hair. Daniels bread !!..need I say more? Love you all big time and truly wish you Happy and Merry Christmas . Also Merry Christmas to fellow subscribers....who are in fact much more than that...more like a big family...of yours. May Everyone be graced with love...may your days be bright. Great idea for shopping. Have you thought about putting Esther in a career center for Cosmetology? Each state has them and they will take homeschoolers. Here in South Carolina, some take the students in 10th grade, Usually, it is a 2 year 1/2 day course for 1500 hours. I think our state gives 500 hours for graduating so they only need to accrue 1000 hours before state boards. Esther is very good and the public schools save you around 20 thousand dollars.

As an instacart shopper and delivery person after two years and all the changes that they have made I’ve had to go on food stamps for my family it’s been really devastating and most of all embarrassing. I used to make a decent living for my little family and now I have to work twice as hard to make half of what I used to get paid and it’s mostly because the tips are low and Instacart does not pay but seven dollars no matter how many items that you purchased from a store all the logistics and the negativity is all over the Internet but I’m not trying to talk bad about InstaCart just want to state that your tip goes a long way...
.... technology is a great thing...but when it (negatively)impacts humans...it becomes more and more like "big brother"...i hope that you and your family can get on a better 'track' in the coming year..& don't be embarrassed for doing what you have to do for your family... happy christmas@sophia hamilton

I'm really happy that you shared your reality because people need to know the other side. I hope that things get better for you and that your income increases with more tips or a higher paid job. I live in a country that is small (New Zealand) and for a few years we have had a free pick up option and a small cost to have it delivered option. I prefer to go to the store because I can pick my fruit and vegetables at their best because it's often squashed. I wish you all the best, life is starting to get harder and harder these days and you sound like a lovely hard working mum. I'm terminally ill and 90% of the time bedridden. I was given 2 years to live 9 years ago when I was 32. I feel like each day is a blessing and I do my best to stay positive. I'll write your name into my prayer book. Xx
I too am an Instacart shopper for more than two years and this comment is very true. Literally overnight out wages have been slashed almost 70%. We use our own vehicles, gas, insurance, phones, internet, etc... and we are
Independent Contractors. Instacart has also admitted to stealing and skimming our tips on several occasions. Most customers have no idea how the shoppers are treated so I don’t fault them. I along with many other shoppers are working hard to transition to new jobs and job opportunities.
Are things better now with the changes made due to COVID? I used IC for the first time and loved it, I hope you're now able to make a living wage.

It's actually cheaper to use Insta cart because your not in store seeing allllll the things in every dept....oh these are cute pants, oh, this looks yummy, oh...we should try this....probably save 50 to 60 bucks.

The little hitch with Instacart is they upcharge the cost of each item from 20cents to 1.00 per. Like my foodlion ice is 2.99 but they charge 3.50. It's so worth it though! You dont need a membership to the clubs so I can shop at BJs and Costco for free. I'm home sick so it's the perfect service for someone who's disabled. You can also order from multiple stores in the same order. Love it!
I am disabled and Instacart has been a life saver. There is an up-charge for one of my favorite stores but I am the BOGO queen so I can make it work.

me, too! I used to require my family to shop for me when I was sick early on. Now I don't have to burden them. I didn't know there was a up-charge possible with them. Is it a store that's not on their list?
@@Shelleyc1972 I believe Aldis has no up charge. I also order non-perishables from Wal-Mart, anything from paper towels to peanut butter to tuna. Any order over $35 has no shipping charges and the prices are the same as the store. A little clever shopping and I am not spending a lot extra for delivery.
Nearly all supermarkets deliver for free in the U.K. however some charge a small amount equiv. five dollars.
I was really confused that they had to buy a membership to even access the service.
Please tip generously. The "driver" is your personal shopper and not just a "delivery driver". We battle through all the crowds around the sample stands, load the shopping cart and wait in the incredibly long lines.
Merry Christmas, Megan, Mike and kids! Love Instacart but they only have 1 store available in my town. Not far from a big town with options, but they won’t expand to it, at least not yet. I’m bummed but they say maybe in a few months🤷🏻♀️(I’m really missing Megan and Andrew’s podcast BTW Come back!) try adding some ginger in with the carrots, garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil and puree it. it is very similar to the ginger dressing at the sushi restaurants.

Am in UK and love my home delivery of my food...am a registered member and can pay by paypal too which is great...I always thought the US did online shopping anyway....it is a great thing for many of us in UK especially when you are in the over 60's age bracket like me and many others and people with large family like yourselves.😁....Happy Christmas Eve....One more sleep..yaaaay!!! In October it was 3 years since I’ve been in a grocery store. I usually pickup but if I have a large order I have it delivered. It is definitely rad!!
Looks like they up the prices a bit. I noticed the pumpkin pie was $7 and change on your app, but it's $4.99 in store. I guess you are paying extra for the convenience?

Those meatballs look delicious. I'd love to see a healthy food substitutes recipe collection based on Megan's versions of meals as I'm also trying to cut down on carbs and unnecessary filler foods. I use Meijer thrifty acre... They have shipt shoppers.... They deliver and put it right in front of my refrigerator. You buy a 99$ membership annually and free delivery with any order over $35. ... I hate shopping and I love this service!

I've been online shopping for 4 yrs. Hy-vee delivers free if you spend $100. They bring it right in to my kitchen.
In the UK it’s very common and has been for years to get one’s groceries delivered so it’s funny to see Americans discovering it. 😊

Instacart has been around for years but I agree it is more available in Europe.
Maybe because Europe is comprised of towns that have a smaller area than American ones? I'm just guessing, I have only visited spain so I have no clue. A lot of people here live far from the store or across town from one so it takes a while to drive there. Very interesting

Hi Ryan's mom here as I live in the UK we dont have Cosco or Target (we have Aldi) but we have Asda and Tesco which do the same thing but I live on a Scottish island and I'm really limited we only have the Co-oP which do deliver but you have to go in and order it 😭😥 it's like living in the dark ages 😃😂😅🤣

Too bad instacart doesn’t pay their workers well at all
Jita'ame suluma well it isn’t exactly paying “well” but many instacart employees have reported that they aren’t even making minimum wage at the end of the day and they heavily rely on tips. At least retail is a set hourly minimum wage. I was a waitress once and even then I probably made more than instacart workers.
Like servers and delivery drivers they highly rely on tips! So if you need to use the service make sure you can leave a nice tip!❤

I loved the concept and was ready to use it until I realized the prices for the grocery items are substantially higher through instacart than if I walked in the store. I know it's a business and they have to make money somehow, but not affordable as it adds a substantial amount to the final cost of your actual grocery bill, + delivery fee, + driver tip. 😒😞😔
Yes I’d rather go get the groceries myself rather than getting scammed. I downloaded the app earlier and quickly deleted it when I realized the groceries are marked up on the app and you can’t use your loyalty card for gas points and discounts.
Depends on the store. I believe Aldis is the same price.
@@helenholt1161 Here Aldis is a lot more expensive. I was going to use instacart because I was sick as anything but my husband went by the store for me so I didn't. The instacart total was around 200, before tip and delivery fee. In store for the same things (and a couple extra since my husband picked me up soup as well) was less than 150. Huge difference for a family on a budget.

You do not need a Costco membership because instacart charges a higher price than the store so you pay more for your groceries
Those meatballs cook up really well in the air fryer.
An air fryer is basically a super small convection oven, so if someone wanted to try them like @TheGoreeTruth does, you can if your oven has conv. setting if you don't have an air fryer. Air fryer is probs faster though (I don't have one so I have no clue lol)

Yes I gifted groceries to a family after mom brought baby home, hubs had to go back to work and the weather was dicey. They are actually in a different state!
