That is a great add-on Bryan, never saw the steel lock before. I wanna see the swearing install, gotta be hilarious. I just got the Cruwear Manix and my example was literally the best quality build I have ever had on ANY knife, Spderco or whoever. I'm in my 60's lifelong folder guy, old fixed blade Hoffritz for hunting. I got the Cruwear based on your unboxing and Gerald at outpost 76 and his test numbers on Cruwear. I have a 52100 Manix (also Outpost 76 approved) that was my go-to daily carry, but its gonna be splitting time with this new Manix. I think I might get the steel lock, as I had my 52100 Manix apart to clean and it wasn't so bad. Couple swears though ........... thanks for the vid Bryan, long live the Manix, King of folders 😆
I just ordered a blurple s110v a few hours ago, would've ordered the dark blue lw but... ya' can't take the damned thing apart! Definitely upgrading to the Flytanium bearing cage and a Lynch Northwest deep carry clip, just have to wait until the knife gets here to decide which finish colors I want.
I thought I was the only one lol When I was choosing between this and the pm2 I went in really wanting the manix til I felt that the button was plastic. But then again after playing with my pm2 for two years the compression lock is now my favorite.
I am really impressed with this knife! I only bought it because of cruwear, I have had 2 others and gave them away. I am also impressed by your note about Nick's disassembly video. I want the flytanium upgrade but with taking it apart, I been hesitating. Nick did it well, I will just have to wait until my wife goes grocery shopping for I install my cause there will be cussing, loud cussing involved. Hope Spyderco takes your advice as I would gladly pay extra for it. Tks for all the info and great video. Still want to see your install video tho!
Mines been in for a while now popped it in while at work lol got it when it dropped - I love it it really brings the manix 2 to a premium level imo.. however I’d like to see some chamfered edges and I will note that I feel the ball lock has slightly more travel space than the stock I think it gives it a little bit of an easier action to close - mine in particular is a hand polished dark red g10 with 20cv mxg titanium deep carry clip... perfect blade centering complete smooth drop shut Wow
So that means the 0:44 new lightweight with screws instead of rivets can accommodate the steel cage, if the only issue was the lack of take down capability.
One thing I noticed about my Flytanium cage is that it wiggles when the knife is open (and thus rattles and feels insecure)...the button width on mine is 6.21mm to the original's 6.30mm.
I know this is an old video, but the manix I had, had an extremely stiff spring and the lock seemed obnoxiously hard to fiddle with. Is it the same for you?
@@SliceyDicey Right, just like pocket clips. Guess perhaps they're worried a powder finish like that would potentially interfere with the operation of the mechanism?. 🤔
Man, my daily carry manix-2 in S30V looks like it was run through a concrete mixer full of diamonds studded granite gravel. It still works great and i keep it sharp but mine looks every bit of its 10 yrs. I use it hard and certainly dont spare it any damage and it shows. I do have a couple others that i keep nice though. But my daily carry takes the load! Great knife!
Bruh that is so awesome. I’m getting one immediately. I have that same pocket clip with copper Flytanium scales on the M 4 manix 2 and that plastic cage is just awful.
Would you mind giving me a referral? I don’t want to have to wrestle with a knife that I love so much if I can just hand it over to someone competent who won’t damage it
Very cool. I agree, it would be way nicer, but there is no way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks that Spyderco is ever going to spend that much on machining a part they can mold out of plastic. Unless they were having them fail often, I just don't see them wanting to raise the cost of the knife that much, especially since people throw a hissy fit about their standard yearly increases. I can't recall them ever doing CQI to make something fancier - it's typically based on resolving frequent complaints or warranty issues I think.
Spyderco could probably make the part using MIM technology and still manage the same cost. Of course machined parts are preferred but even MIM would be an upgrade over polymer imo.
I got my Manix, first time ever handling one and man is that spring suuuuper strong, I could never close it with 1 thumb, and it kinda hurts my fingers, like if you lit a bic lighter 200 times, also I noticed sometimes when I close it doing a flick that it rubs on that straight edge around the plastic(the G10 cutout), I think it should be slightly rounded, it doesn’t pinch but it rubs not in a good way, maybe I’ll get more used to it but if it was my design/company I would have changed some stuff on it. Love the knife tho. Another thing, does the s30v blade always come in that kinda flat finish? I know yours isn’t s30v but your blade has that grain pattern while mines very very smooth/no grain visible
Just installed my copper cage this morning after polishing it with Mother's Mag. It was a struggle but I figured out it was easier for me to put the thumb tabs in the liner/handle cut out first, then set the blade on the pivot (in the closed position), then compress the spring and slide the guide rod end of the cage into position against the back spacer. It's a great upgrade once I figured out an easier way for me to swap out the parts.
Nice aftermarket titanium ball cage lock, however, Spyderco doesn't put any cheap parts on their knives, all the parts they use are tested extensively for wear and durability. If I didn't believe what the Glessers had to say about the quality of their parts I wouldn't have purchased a lightweight Manix.
It always seemed such a ridiculous design decision to use cheap plastic in one of the, in my opinion, greatest Spyderco knives. I always wonder what was going through their head, when thy said "Yep, let's use some cheap plastic". Do they have no pride in their work, I must wonder? I do not get it at all. As a knife collector I even feel insulted by it.

That little piece has totally changed the look of an already good looking knife 🤘😊🤘
Such a great upgrade! 👍👍
I like how the color of the titanium ball cage lock is gray, it really makes it a lot more aesthetically pleasing.

Spring loaded goodness! I like the upgraded parts from Flytanium!
Man I guess I got lucky taking my apart and putting back together wasn't so bad
Thanks Bryan...another good one. And I appreciate your adding the links.
(Looks down at his Manix 2 LW) Awww, damn.
I picked up this knife. Needs new scales. Didn't even know about this product. Thanks
Awesome when improvements happen! This makes a already impressive knife great!
Ordered one, and maybe one of these days I'll get the nerve to install it! Thanks, Bryan!
They are sold out is there anywhere else to get them?
Thinking about putting one in my Manix 2 LW screw together model.
Nice upgrade to the Manix 2!!
I'd love to have this on my Blurple one.

How solid is the lock? Blade play side to side or up & down?
I got mine back today!🥳 No more plastic cage. I got a flytanium one also. I was checking out a copper skull cage but wanted something a bit nicer.
Back from where?
There has been talk forever on the forums of doing this, I think Sal said he didn't mind if I remember correctly

Already got my calluses from my manix 2 bearing lock, tempted to painfully buy and install a flytanium lock now...
Tried doing this and the lock doesn’t work at all it just gets stuck. Any ideas or tips? Would be greatly appreciated!
I will go through your link when I decide to get them for sure

Do you remember the Allura with the round ceramic tab? It sucks. This looks like it could be a great fix for that. I wonder if it would cross over...

Those locks are out of stock everywhere and i cant find it in any european websites. Anyone know where i can get one?:)
Love the idea, but they don't have an option for black?
You'd have to coat it for black.

I just ordered one for the bhq sale getting a free hat woohooo. Gotta see that disassembly video.
I should buy one and attempt installing. Oh, wait 😉 I hope eventually Spyderco adds a steel cage. CQI?
I'm real bummed I missed out on this cruwear manix. I've been on the lookout for my first manix and waited just too long to pull the trigger. 😔
I have this cruwear smooth g10 model. Interested in buying it?

Plastics are the main ingredient and most laxatives nowadays. Poly ethylene glycol. People don’t realize what plastics RN. A common brand is MiraLAX.
Polyethylene glycol is antifreeze. It's used in trace amounts in lots of pharmaceuticals as a preservative... it's also a known neurotoxin.
