I always install the Flytanium, Titanium, Ball Cages in all of my Spyderco, Ball Bearing-Lock, Manix 2 XL Folders. Yes, it's a must "Mod" in my opinion, too... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Beautiful tutorial! Installed with ease! My ball bearing came flying out when I was doing this because my monkey brain wasn't paying attention, I found it only after a few minutes of searching. Phewwww
Very comprehensive video, you really simplified the ball cage replacement. I’ve seen to many people struggle to perform this somewhat easy task. This video should help many, and Flytanium should provide a link to this particular video. They’d sell ball cages to the fence sitters afraid to take their Manix 2 apart. Well done
This is the best cage loge lock flytanium install on ebay, I just bought 2 Flytanium cage locks for my Manix 2 and will install them as to these instructions here.
I got the REC, your vid has given me the balls to do what i assumed very difficult. Im just doing a black one tho. Keep it stock looking because of what it is. Just make it better. Thanks man. I subbed. Ordering right after i post this. N some zirconium ball n spring set. Peace!
Glad I could help! Check out our website www.ocd4edc.com for my Manix2 Upgrade Kits. I'm also a Flytanium Dealer and offer kits with or without the Ball Cage. I have also posted a few videos about the upgrade kits. Thanks for watching!
Brother i would have had a tough go if not for your video. Straight forward and explained perfectly. Thank you. Definitely adds to the grip and movement/sliding performance. I have one all blacked out
I hope they are paying you something for this. I bought both gold and blue titanium for both the Manix 2 and Manix 2 XL from Flytanium as a direct result and will probably buy more mods from this seller... "because" of your tutorial. The XL was a little different than the regular but both went in without a hitch. Another reason to mod your knives is that it will force you to get familiar with your equipment and force you to do needed maintenance as my EDC (the regular Manix 2) was filthy! Thanks again for the excellent tutorial.
Thanks for the video! Just installed my upgrade kit with dark green ball cage (which I of course bought from you). Went very smoothly! 👍 Only odd thing is that there seems to be a little lock stick...not sure if that's because of the new ceramic ball? But the new ball lock is A LOT better overall, and I assume the lock stick will break in and go away 😊
I have parts from a manix 2 and want to make a complete knife. I have scales, pivot, blade, cage, washers, and spacer for the cage. I need all screws, clip and the steel liners. Where could I find??? Enjoy the work you do. Especially the customs.
The hardest parts are getting the screws started without cross threading and sitting flush (and manipulating the spring and cage, took me a few tries). Even with the blade screws what I'd consider fairly tight, the blade just drops easy and the titanium cage does give much better traction over the plastic. Also put on some carbon fiber scales...man looks great and although the G10 is nice and grippy, it was a pain getting out of my pocket. Noticeably lighter and the whole black on black on black look ("The Regular Guy Look") is awesome. Think a lanyard and maybe a back spacer are next.
I am new to the knife world. One of first knife I bought was a Manix 2. I see people flipping opening and closing this knife. What do people do to their knife to do this? With my knife this lock is very hard to un-engage. Right now You all most have to hold the blade and with the thumb and first finger un-engage the lock. Is there a break in period for this knife?
When I put my new spring and cage and ball in it seems to bite when I engage the lock now. Like it sticks a little. Is the spring damaged or did I do something wrong? It seems worse than it was when I first got it
I’m curious, do these aftermarket cages have a more aggressive grip than the OEM??? That’d be the only reason I’d want to change it!!! I’m also considering getting a little less strong spring, are they available???
I just subbed to your channel. Definitely going to get a flytanium ball cage now. I have the manix 2 in M390. Love the knife. Have you thought about changing the scales or clip? It's so nice I'm worried I may mess it up.
So is this just for looks/ergonomics? I am not a spyderco guy but considering the manix2. If it’s such a necessary upgrade thought that may dissuade me from the knife. For such an expensive knife I would expect it to be good to go. I’ve never had to modify any other kershaws, bokers, etc so help me out please.
I'm trying to install the ti cage and after I get the liner on it starts to get a little gritty. Once the g10 is on, it's almost impossible to operate. It's like it's biting into the g10 almost as if it's too big or rough against it. Should I try sanding the g10 or cage?
Are you sure it's in the correct direction? I have seen a few of the Flytanium cages that were a little tight. If that's the case you can sand the area down a bit to make room. It's generally a very small amount of sanding. I hope you get it taken care of! Thanks for watching!
@@OCD4EDC Thanks for the reply! It's in the correct orientation. Double and triple checked. Gonna try and send it back, but if that doesn't work, I'll try sanding it. Appreciate the help!
Did the titanium cage feel gritty at first? I’ve just installed mine and it’s a bit rough, mostly when I try to disengage the ball cage with with just my thumb. I also installed the ceramic ball bearing and lighter spring from your store. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Two days later... I disassembled the knife and polished the surfaces on the ball cage, liner, and ball cage guide (for lack of a better term). Anything metal on metal got polished. I used a dremel, polishing tip, and flitz. Reassembled and now it’s smooth like butter. I can disengage the lock with just my thumb or just my index finger and no drag or grit! Excellent upgrade!!
Hey nice vid! I’m about to get the flytanium cage for my dlc m390 Manix 2. I’ve read on forums about replacing the steel ball with a ceramic ball, I’m not sure if it makes much of a difference or not..
I have never tried a ceramic ball in the Manix 2. The only benefit I can see, would be a very small weight savings. Thanks for watching, Happy New Year!!!
Hey Brother...does this upgrade work in the lightweight version of manix 2? Thanks..update..never mind found my answer..its riveted together..screw conversion can be done..maybe an option but probably just buy the g10 version like yours..
Yes this will fit in the Manix2 Lwt, but you will have to drill out the rivet's and replace them with Chicago screws/sex bolts. I have seen hardware kits for sale online. It would be a lot easier to buy the G-10 version, but it's up to you! Great question.

Plastic cage and this small spring 😂 ??? Way inferior compared to the PM2. The spring can break or wear out and the plastic ball cage WILL fall apart someday because plastic falls apart by themselves after a few decades - under load probably earlier. Not a knife to pass down to your grandchildren. The PM2 Crucarta on the other hand, have full steel liners, if the handles fall apart in 30 years, you just make new ones by your own.....
Exactly what i was looking to learn with no nonsense or padding. Thanks!
I've watched 4 of these vids. Yours is the best by a substantial margin. Thanks for the clarity. Nice job!

I just finished the upgrade and this makes the knife so much better! This is a must do for the Manix 2.
Best ball cage video out there. Thanks for taking the time to produce it. Direct and to the point.
Thank you from Brazil my friend!! I just installed it on mine.
Perfect thank you for making this video. Your video was by far the best one on installing the cage.

Just got my first Manix 2 today.

and while you have it disassembled, cut that spring a bit and shorten it to make it easier to press.
are the cages interchangeable between the regular Manix 2 and Manix 2 lightweight?
Is it normal for it to feel gritty after putting in a ti one?

Does the plastic cage squeeze together thus making the effective width less than the metal.
No, the plastic ball cage is very rigid and cannot bent. Thanks for watching!!!
i mixed up which way the washers go and now im paranoid
