One of the clearest, prettiest and overall best crochet tutorials I've found on RUclips to date. Thank you so much!
Very nicely done. I haven't crocheted in about 20 years but my son has asked me to make him an afghan and I definitely needed to be reminded of how to do it. Your video was clear and concise . Your voice is clear and you explain slowly as you show the stitch. You are great. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise in such a professional way.
Im trying to make Chevron blankrts for all my family members. I sometimes leave my piece for months at a time without working on it because of life but everytime I'm ready to work on it again I come back and watch this video to remind myself if the turns and how to start a new color. It's very helpful
I LOVE THIS! All the tutorials I've seen go through the whole stich instead of the top loop. My grandmother thought me the way you've done it in this video. I just forgot a few details. So thank you so much! !! You've got a new subscriber!😆
+Razzle Berry thank you for subscribing! I'm glad you found this video perfect for your needs. This stitch is one of my favorites!

This, by far, was the easiest chevron stitch tutorial I have ever seen, subscribed!!
Wow, that's great! Thank you :)
Thank you thank you thank you! Thanks to you I can finally make a chevron! I am eternally grateful!
thank you for the vid, i've tryed other tutorials and theyd come out loppy for my blanket, not even, and this is just even and perfect :)
Great tutorial I like that that you enunciate your words and take your time. It's very clear. Thank you!
Thank you..this is by far the easiest version I've seen.
Others involved are far more complicated.
I tried it, and for the first time I could do it!
Thank you for this easy to understand and well photographed video! I am not a crocheter (or a knitter - though super crafty in other ways). I recently bought a "tunic" length sweater that ended up being not as long as promised. The bottom edge is finished in a crocheted ripple stitch, and the color scheme is grey and black, so it looks pretty do-able to find more yarn and add length. I'll make a practice piece to learn the stitches per your video, but then I'm going to tackle the sweater and see if I can fix it! Your video makes me feel I will be successful!
You can totally do it! I hope you'll share a picture with me one day on Facebook or Instagram :)
I do ripple stch crochet...so found the chevron stch easy with ur suuuuuuuuper tutorial....thank you👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
I want to thank you for your video . I could never find a video that showed me how to finish and start the next row. I always had problems with it. Now I think I understand it. Thank you so very much.
I have tried to attempt this stitch before with other patterns and always failed, I usually can pick up on patterns quickly, but not this one. I found your channel today, and this will be my second tutorial I am doing from you, you are wonderful, you are doing everything perfectly for me! Thank you!
:)
This is so wonderful to read, thank you so much! It's great to know that my teaching style resonates with you :)
Your video is awesome. I can finally understand what I am supposed to be doing. Look forward to viewing more and learning new methods and stitches. Great job.
For anyone wanting a bigger v (or w or whatever) the pattern is 4(side)+2(bottom tip)+4(side)+1(top tip)= 11 so to change the pattern just add to the side numbers. I do sides of 11 so my pattern is 11+2+11+1=25 so my foundation chain is a mutiple of 25 +2. (For a queen size its a foundation of 302)
Also make sure when you still do the 2 in one stich at the beginning and end of each row of pattern, thats important.
The 302 actually depends on hook size so i do recommend doing your own measurements
I like this tutorial because I can see it with the bright colors, and you didnt rush through the lesson. l also learned how to change color. Thank you five stars

2 Comments: First, I REALLY APPRECIATE how definitively, how slowly, you made your stitches. That makes all the difference, being able to see exactly WHERE you’re entering a stitch. Good 👍🏻 Work.
Secondly, @17:00 where there’s the color changing (🪢 knot) instead of making a knot for color change, just wrap the hook with the second yarn color. Maybe there wouldn’t be that confusing knot at the end of the row, which COULD look like the stitch to finish the row with the last 2 SC? Just a thought?
thank you so much! yours is the only video tutorial that is clear and easy to follow.
Very easy to learn tutorial and it's a clear video unlike others 😄
Love the way you explain it, it's so easy, I do have a tendency to make mistake where you have to crochet the three single crochet at the tip : (. Love your work!
If you want a piece wider than this sample, it is a series of 13 chain plus 2 chain e.g. 26 chain plus 2 chain and SC 5, not 4. I believe the single SC count goes up with the increase in the width. I tried the b hooked way of using 11 chain plus 2, but I never ended up with that single chain stitch as my last stitch. I hope this will save you frustration.
That is my preferred repeat pattern count as well: 13 + 2.
Thanks so much for the great tutorial!! I’m going to be using the steps to complete the top of a purse that I am making. 💚😊💚😊
Thankyouuu! Perfect 👌 .. I totally get it & I THINK I understand how I could make it whatever size I want/need .. and the sizing & spacing of the zig's & zag's themselves too! .. we'll see lol.
I just did the first part of my swatch in both loops & now am doing BLO, I had to come back to check if that's EVERY row or just the row you do your new colour on, or when ever you want the "seam"/edging to show from the blo's. Anyway I'll re-watch .. but it reminded me I hadn't posted a Thankyou & some feedback 😬😊 thanks again.
Love this tutorial!! You are a great teacher!! Love it!!
Thank you so much. Your chevron tutorial is the best and I am learning.
At last i got it right. Thanks for this tutorial.
I like this pattern... but for anyone that is wondering, if you want all of your ridges to be on the same side of your work, you have to alternate front and back stitch as you flip your work.
Hi what do you mean by front and. Back? stitches please. Do you mean FLO AND ALTERNATE WITH BLO ? I did t see this anywhere so I’m asking. Thank you 😊
Nice video.I'm still new to crocheting and had to start over on my blanket 3 times!! I wasn't chaining enough at the end of the row.I ripped out most of my yarn but left the bottom few rows intact so it won't be perfect and straight on the sides ( at the bottom ) but its just a throw blanket.I'll do better with my next blanket ( double crochet ).
Crocheting on the second row working that one only back stich gives , certainly a 2D effect :D That's a neat direction and style you've indulged into.
I'm going to take
Thank you B.hooked!! Loved this tutorial!! Planning on making a baby sea turtle blanket with this!!!
i love your chevron st do you have a written pattern for this thank you sandie
Rally like this pattern. Thank you for sharing.
Perfect! You are so sweet. Love to watch this video. Can’t wait to try it😘
Very easy to follow! Thank you! I've been wanting to do a chevron pattern, and I'm starting one today!!!!!
Hi, new to crocheting. could you please share name of yarn you used and colors of yarn. Beautiful. Thankyou....
Very good tutirial question; can you do 2tog rather than skipping 2?
So, you could (it seems) do blow for just the colour change row? Then you'd get "edge/texture" where each colour changes?? If that DOES work, I feel like it would feel lovely to run your hands over a blanket or shawl with those edges a little more spaced out? I guess I should just try it .. but I haven't got much "practice" yarn atm. Any answers to my question would be most helpful please, & Thankyou ☺️
EDIT: I'm getting it now, how depending on the row you start your new/next colour is where & how you get it all to be on the RS! Yay! Such an easy pattern repeat once you do a couple of rows!👏👍
I checked your blog but it has no mention of the width of the project changing due to the zig zag....
Can you give us a pattern for the border of these stitches? Because all borders for other chevron patterns are ripple stitches and are not the same as here. (I’m referring to straightening the edges)Thank you in advance! You are great!
thank you soooooo much, I finally am starting my scarf for winter
That's great! You're very welcome!
How many chains do I make for a chevron baby blanket to end up as a 36 x36 in blanket?
Great tutorial was the easiest one to follow - please advise how many chains must i make for a single blanket. I am from South Africa and we work in cm...Thanks once again
How many chains make the best afgan
Thank you, your video was very helpful!
great video! you explained it very well.thank~you.x
BEGINNER HERE! Please tell me if it makes any difference: In the video you chain the multiple plu s 2 and then start right in with the 2sc in the second from the hook. But on the paper pattern on the blog, you don;t start the setup row with the ch 1, but go right into the 2sc in the second from the hook. Does it make a difference if the initial ch1 to start the setup is omitted?
Thank you so much it's easy for me
Can I reduce the 4 sc to 2sc to make a "tighter" looking ripple?
Thank u 😊 for teaching this so well
How would this work in the round? Would it be the same or would I have to do something differently?
i love the design now would this work for a scarf?
natalie linton yes it will
Kristin Holcomb thanks!
Hello can you help me. Because this is not working for me at all. I got so confused with all the variations. I went over to Yarnspuration and yarn council attempted to teach jyself. Now that I understand the concept. I need clarification of a few points. You state there is always 2 sc in the last st.
Does the chain stitch count yes no. count not. Because this changed everything and surely dictates where the last stitch will be placed. My swatch got longer and longer and longer.
I created a chain exactly the way it’s stated it needs to be.
Please see.
I would like to make a “V” with 5 sts. (Single crochet stitch).
I calculated a chain of 42
plus 2. (42) For a Scarf to achieve this.
This way.
V = 5X2 =10. ( 2 sides to a Chevron).
Plus 4st(4 includes 1 St. For the inc, 3 st for the Dec.
Repeat pattern times 3 plus a
Chain 2.
V = 5•2+4•3+2
5•2 = 10 +4=14
14•3 = 42
42+2=44. Chain 44. Here is what happened.
I placed 2 sc second chain from the hook. Then 5 SC
My first peak I made 3 sc in the st.
5 sc. then I did 3 tog decrease. ( same as skipping a st. And onand on.
At the end. 2 sc in the last at.
However once yiu chain and turn. Start over. When you get to that first 3 in one. To out your st in the middle you must skip one st. Because the start of the row was 2 sc.
this is how it just kept stretching longer and longer.
Please can you tell je wjat I am doing wrong.
Hey there! There are so many varieties of chevrons and waves so don't be discouraged :) The chain one at the beginning of the version explained in this video doesn't count as a stitch. So you're good to commit that one to memory for this one. It sounds like you have a project in mind for this stitch, and to figure out how many chains to start for that project, I'd recommend watching a much newer video posted on my channel. It walks you through exactly how to calculate the foundation chain number for your project, taking into account how the wave "shrinks" your chain. Here's that link: ruclips.net/video/BjFZ_AAkEX4/видео.html
It's also a good idea to have the written instructions on hand when you're figuring all of this out. This stitch is spelled out here: bit.ly/2Vlm0vL
Keep in mind the multiple for this version of chevron is 11 + 2. So when you're working through that first video suggestion to figure out your starting chain, you'll use these numbers to plug in to the steps. Hope this helps a bit, but let me know if you have more questions!

Ok. I’m
Going to do just what you recommended.
After I’ll let you know how it turned out.
I’d love to explain what’s going on with the project I’m working on
Because there is truly a learning experience in the challenge.
But I’m tired I have been diligent any other project would have long been finished.
2 weeks I am at this.
I’m going to try this another way.
After reviewing all the info you provided.
You truly are a excellent teacher. I actually began to u derstand etc after watching your video.
But it takes time.
Most often it’s something so simple when I figure out what’s nit working and why that A Ha moment us going to be crazy.
I just know this
Thank you so very much.
I’ll let you know how it turns out.
Basically I am trying to
Make a scarf. It’s a 5 stitch chevron in between my Increase and decrease.
Just lovely but it’s not working out
One side edge is getting narrow at each new row. I am nit dropping a st at at so I don’t get it.
Then the opposite the edge is perfect. Urs beautiful.
It’s something?
Heees why. In this pattern every Chevron is 5 st up and 5 down
Except the last one.
It’s 4 st abs 2 Tog over the last 2 stitches. This brings it to five.
Yiu also start your new row like this.
My sister in law has a beanie with this type of chevron stitch and she keeps asking me to make her one but I cannot find a tutorial with it. Do you have one? If not, can you please, Please, PLEASE make one, lol.
hi, i like how you explain everything, thaks for the tutorial 😇🌹
What would the stitch count be if I wanted to make it wider between the chevrons?
Would this work for double crochet or half double crochets? Or is this just for single?
Could you please inform how many stitches to make if we want to make a lady's skirt? Also when to increase or decrease and to finish the waist line
I watched this video because I am having trouble with a similar pattern. (It is a sweet heart ripple) My repeat section is *3sc in same st, sc in next five st, sk 2 st, sc in next 5 st, start over from *. I find that after I turn the work and get to the repeat section there are always 2 extra stitches and if I were to do just the 5 sc the crests and troughs would not line up. I have ripped out and counted and recounted and I can not figure out why this is happening. Do you have any ideas about this? My end and beginng before and after the repeat sections always line up exactly. Thanks.
backstreetpixie
😠😠😂😞
Michael Burgess
I actually figured out what was happening and had nothing to do with this section. i was messing up the actual special stitch for the pattern. I have. Lol
how many stitches do you do for a blanket and how much yard will it take
not sure if this will make sense but I need help. on your tutorial you ended 1st row by skipping 2 stiches doing 4 sc and 2 in the last. I got that but when I turn my work because Im longer (i assume) I work my first 4 up to a add 3 instead of skip 2. it doeant lokm right and no matter how i try I cant figure it out.
do you have the pattern written out...?
This is so helpful thank u!!
I'm currently working on a large ripple stitch afghan, and the pattern I have been using says to leave the last stitch in a row unworked, chain one, turn, skip one, then go back the other way like normal. However, I've been adding stitches and the edge of my work is "jagged". Is that jaggedness fixed by doing the two sc into the last/first stitches of a row? New at this and might have been too ambitious with my project!
It sounds like it may just be a difference in pattern. You can usually correct/hide imperfect edges by blocking and adding a single crochet border to the sides :)

how do you keep the end from shrinking
So I know you asked this a long time ago but in case you are still wondering, or if anyone else is, if you are shrinking that means you are not doing the correct numer of stitches. So in this case the pattern repeat is 4 singles, skip 2, 4 singles, then 3 in the same stitch, repeated however many times. But at the beginning of a row before you start the pattern the first thing you do is two in the same stitch and at the end of the row in the last stich of the pattern the last thing you do is 2 in the same stitch instead of three. The reason for this is for the pattern the numer of stiches is 4+2+4+1=11 but in the next row you are skipping 2, you make up the 2 by doing the 3 in one stitch. For each pattern repeat you get the 2 you skipped back from one of the three on either side except for the last and the first. To go further, at the end of your first row of pattern you put 2 in the final chain then you chain one and turn your work, then in the first stitch of the two you just made you put 2, and then the second of the two is what makes up for one of the two you skiped in the last pattern repeat. The other of the two you skipped in the final report 8 of the last row was made up for in the 3in1 in the second to last pattern repeat of that row. This is the reason you start the row with two as well so that at the end of the next row you have one that makes up for the skip and one to put the 2 in.
In this pattern if you were shrinking then your points should also have been put off alignment. The skips should line up with each other and the add 3 should always go in the middle stich of the add 3 in the previous row.
In the end each row should have the exact same number of stiches . In this case a multiple of 11 +1 (in the foundation chain its multiple of 11 +2 because one is a turning chain and doesn't count as a stich)
If these things where not the reason for your shrinking the only other explanation is you started off loose and then started stiching tighter. The only way to avoid that is to be aware of how tight you are doing things.
Anyway i hope this explanation helps someone.
I keep losing a stitch at the end when working the 2nd row . What am i doing wrong?. Ive started over several times.
Dewanna Croy same, always on the row coming back. Think I will give up, plenty of other patterns I have mastered
Brittany..I just don't get why its said multiples of 11 + 2...doesnt that mean 13...please share your knowledge on this one :-)
Thanks! E.
How many stitches we need for singl bed blanket
Do you count the slip knot as the the first chain??
Would this work with bulky 6 yarn.
thank you loved it
Very cool! Thank you.
I’m having an extremely difficult time now that I’m trying with a longer chain. When I start with the 22 chain it’s perfect. I’ve been trying with 33 and 44 chains and with both I have 2 stitches left at the end of my second row. I have no clue why this is happening
Same!! tried it several times thinking I got the foundation row incorrect!! comes up with 2 at the end - her tutorial claims that you will ALWAYS have one chain at the end... nope
I am having the exact same problem. Already spent 2 hrs just trying to figure out if I did my foundation chain wrong. So if this is not working for longer chain lengths, what is the correct way???
love this
Super tuto merci
Does anyone know what to do with the extra string hanging off the end after you change colors?????
Take a darning needle and weave the end in. You should leave about a 5-6" tail hanging off to get a good weave.
what causes the hole at the points? what if you dont want a hole?
Help why do u need 2 sts extra is it every 11?
What does " multiple of 13 sts + 4; 1-row repeat" mean? And in my directions they have " sc in next 5 ch +" what does the plus mean??? Help I am a beginner!
Hi Rebekah! "Multiple of 13 sts + 4" is crochet lingo for starting chain instructions. You'll crochet sets of 13 chains until you have reached the desired length and then you will add 4 chains. "1-row repeat" means that the stitch pattern is the same for every row.
The last bit of directions looks like it could be missing a step. "Sc in the next 5 ch", single crochet in the next five chains makes sense but I'm not sure about the plus sign. You could try reaching out to the designer for clarification on this part.
Hope this helps!
I'm doing this pattern but it always curls up .why
i dont do mine like this with the 2 single crochet at the end i finish off by one single crochet chain one and turn skip the first sc and then continue across and finish the same way on the opposite end
Yes, that's another good way of doing it. There are many variations of this stitch.
So even if you were to do 44 or even 66 stitches' it's the same 2 singles in first stitch then 4 singles, skip 2, 4 singles, 3 singles in the top stitch, 4 singles and 2 singles in the last stitch (I'm hoping I said that right) as long as you do any multiple of 11
Yes, no matter how many chains you started with at the beginning, that's your repeat!
Thank you so much for replying I can't wait to try this new stitch now

B.hooked Crochet want to make a baby blanket that you can wrap your baby in how many stiches.would you use for that?
when i did a chin 44+2 i didn't end on 4 chains i ended on one why? what am i doing wrong? please someone
if you didn't figure it out already since you commented a while ago... you don't end on 4 chains, you end on one and you do 2 single crochet in that last stitch.
Can't find the written link
thank you
