    THANK YOU! I started a ripple using another tutorial, but was having difficulties. The best tip in your video was about which stitches to start increases and decreases. I was totally hung up on that and you corrected it. No one else I watched mentioned that important part. Its especially helpful to get you back aligned if the # of your stitches aren't correct!

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  2 года назад +1

      I would double check your stitch count and make sure you're working your decreases correctly. To make the peaks of the ripple we work an increase but we have to balance this out in the valley of the ripple by working the decreases - if you don't do these then your stitch count will continue to increase. You should start and end each row with two trebles into one stitch (but remember that the turning chain counts as a stitch) 😊

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  Год назад +1

      Have you gone back over your row to double check your stitches? You are absolutely NOT being thick; it's really easy to miscount 😊 Remember you should be working your first stitch into the fourth chain from the hook. You can then use stitch markers to help you to mark out each part of the ripple. The written instructions are over on my blog here: blog.bellacococrochet.com/the-ripple-stitch/ with some close up photos which should also help.

    I have a question though...I am doing the ripple blanket in 4 colors and I got to 6 rows or so and it looked the ripples had become less pronounced and the sides looked like they were flaring out and not staying the same length. I've made sure to do a double crochet in the last stitch. maybe it was my imagination but maybe themost recent row was more stretched out so it looked different?? anyway I took it all apart and rewatched the video and started again.to this point it looks like I've done everything correctly. so should the sides be parallel or should they bow out?? please help!!

      I've only just started crocheting and am yet to follow a proper written pattern so I write it how it makes sense to me rather than the proper abbreviations. I’m just wondering if the last several stitches at the end will be different at the end as you go along. I know you will end with 2 stitches in the very last stitch. But I either missed a stitch somewhere or don’t count right. I can’t figure it out. I start the rows correct, but the last five or so stitches before the 2 in the chain 3 are ending differently. As I keep going.
    Does that make sense? Instead of ending the row with 3 stitches, then 2 stitches in the last chain 3; I might end with 2 stitches together then 2 stitches in chain 3.

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  2 месяца назад

      Each row should be exactly the same so if you're ending one row differently then there will likely be a mistake somewhere along the row. I would go back and doublecheck, and make sure you've worked your increases and decreases correctly :-)

    Is it possible to do odd multiples of 12? I was trying to do a 12+3 and I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the incs and decs to line up until I realized that in a 24+3 the pattern begins and ends the same way (v^v). Is it not possible to end the pattern the opposite way (^v^v)?

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  8 месяцев назад +1

      The ripple pattern begins and ends with a peak so that it matches up on both sides - if you wanted to start on a peak but end on a dip then you’d need to remove one half of the repeat, but that would make it difficult when starting and finishing a row, and keeping your stitch count correct (hope I’ve understood you correctly!) 😊

      The best way to work out how many chains you will need is to crochet a sample swatch 😊 If you work a small sample that is three pattern repeats across, for example, you can measure this and use it to calculate how many chains you will need for a blanket the size you would like.

      You’re welcome 😊 I would make sure that you have the correct number of stitches; if you’re sure that everything is correct then you could use a bigger hook size for you starting chain before sizing back down again. It could be that your chain is too tight and is pulling the bottom in.

      Rather than counting a long chain (because it is so easy to miss or add a stitch count) can I suggest you just count 12 then go back to 1 and count to 12 again. You can then lay your chain out to see if it is the correct size the ripples are very gentle and won't make much difference to the length. So just count to 12 then start again etc and when you have the length you want add 3. I hope it helps being visually impaired I can't keep count of long chains, so i have to break it down in to repeats and in this instance put a stitch marker every 12th stitch and then a marker at the end of my last 12 so when I do my chain 3 turn and dc in 4th ch from hook it is where my marker is. Sorry it's so long winded but having a visual impairment I have to find ways of marking my repeats etc. So good luck I really hope it works. Also don't chain to tightly i work a bit loosely and try to keep the chain straight as you work twisting can change the stitch count.

      You’re very welcome! 😊 I would recommend crocheting a small sample swatch that you can measure and weigh to work out exactly how much you’ll need for the size you want. It’s difficult to say exactly how many balls of yarn you will need as it will depend on your personal tension as well as the yarn and hook you’re using, but for a very large blanket to fit a double bed you will likely need around 15 100g balls of DK yarn.

      I’d make sure you’re following the pattern correctly as this should work up with nice straight sides 😊 Remember you should be beginning and ending each row with two trebles (at the beginning your turning chain will count as one treble).

    Thanks for the pattern, but why are you calling double crochets treble? I am confused.

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  Год назад

      I work in UK terms so a UK treble is a US double, it's that same stitch just different terminology :)

    I'm easily distracted when counting. What should I do if in the end, I have one more hole left. Is there still a fix to that?

    • @bellacococrochet

      It would really be best to go back over the row and make sure you’ve worked everything correctly so that the pattern lines up as you continue 😊 If everything looks fine and you’ve just made an extra starting chain, you can fix that using my tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/5mONybIWFO0/видео.html

      Sorry you’ve not found the tutorial clear - after the second row you just need to keep repeating row two until you reach the size you want. You can also find the written instructions on my blog here which might help: blog.bellacococrochet.com/the-ripple-stitch/ 😊

      Kerri Bos the last stitch has two double crochet before turning. Sounds like you have it right.

      Karis Shaffer I figured it out, I missed a DC at the beginning after the turning chain and also I didn't have an even foundation chain of 12 before I added the 3

      Thank you! 😊 I've not tried that but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to - remember you will need to adjust the number of starting chains as it's a smaller stitch.

    Very good instructons. I started a 45" x 65' blanket following this pattern and the few inches I have already completed look very nice. I am using an Ombre Super Saver acrylic yarn in blue shades with an "I" hook (5.5mm). The color shades change every couple of rows on their own so I don't need to cut the yarn to add a new color.

    • @bellacococrochet

      This is a really difficult question to answer as it really depends on the yarn you are using, your hook size and your personal tension. It would probably be best for you to do a small swatch and work it out from there :)

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  8 месяцев назад

      Usually when a blanket curves into a rainbow shape it’s because the starting chain is too tight - you can work the foundation chain using a bigger hook and then size back down again to start the pattern 😊

    On the first row I ended with two spaces so I did two trebles in each. Is that okay or will it mess it up?

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  2 года назад

      I would go back over the row and double check your stitches - I wouldn't continue with the extra stitches as it will throw your whole blanket out. You can find the written instructions on my website here which might help you: bellacococrochet.com/the-ripple-stitch/ and I would recommend making a small swatch to begin with for practise 😊

    How many sets of 12 would you make this so it’s wide enough for an adult?

    • @bellacococrochet
      @bellacococrochet  Год назад +1

      It’s difficult to say exactly how many as it will depend on the yarn and hook you’re using, as well as your own personal tension. The best way to work out how many is to crochet a small sample swatch (you could do three sets, for example) that you can then measure and use to work out how many sets for a full size blanket 😊
