Hey Dan, very interesting perspective on the trends of viewership on your channel! I myself began my beard journey during the CoVid pandemic and can confirm that I had deep-dived into many of your videos during that time. With increased knowledge and confidence in beard care, I do agree that many viewers probably fall off the wagon and develop what I would describe as "Scuba Syndrome" 😆. I think there is a sweet spot that involves keeping the beard looking great but not obsessing and that's probably where we all want to end up throughout this journey 🙏 Great video

Personally, ive noticed that I dont need to buy products all that often. I want to try all of the good brands but shampoo and conditioner has been lasting me a good year! Oil/butter lasts me a month. I get emails all the time from companies ive ordered from reminding me to refill my supplies but I havent even gotten a chance to try out other ones to figure out what works best for my beard. I’ve basically been watching since the beginning and watched this channel grow so much. I went deep in and have watched almost everything. I like watching the livestreams too but in all honesty and nothing against you. I get so bored of people asking the same questions over and over and having to hear the same answers over and over. So I often take breaks from watching the content when I get bored of that but usually come back. You do a great job and I know people have questions. Just drives me nuts when they could just search the question and have a video of yours pop up after the stream. Not trying to be negative and sorry if it comes off like that.

Hey Dan. I began growing my beard in 1980, my senior year at U of M. I never shaved again. There was no internet, no beard products, and only trimmers. It would have been great to have someone to talk with, to share with, to grow with. It wasn't to happen. I discovered a forum about 2010, and have been active with encouraging others. I found you as the trusted teacher, and have popped in on and off, as my time allows. Always love the content, and have gotten many pointers from you, especially with my longer beard (8 inches), and being Santa. You have been instrumental in fine tuning my beard for better health, and I so much appreciate your channel. And I couldn't imagine not getting new info, because in my lifelong beard journey, there could always be one better thing. Thanks. So, always good to stay tuned in. I must be one of the odd ones. I was super thankful to find Dan C, as he's now my #1 resource to feel confident i'm doing the right things for my beard, as well as keeping me informed on the cool new aspects of the hobby and products to check out. I look forward to every monday night now, to pop in to Commands Corner, and enjoy taking part in the experiences of others on Wednesdays Beard Advice Live shows. I think this is the first time I've seen anyone address what is a very valid point. We all have our own beard journey and some drift off of it, many find what works and then that's it. Job done. I have had a beard of some kind for over half my life but only in that past 8-10 years and this current style of beard has youtube been around to help me. I have consumed hours, weeks, probably even months of videos in that time and it's been key to my bearded life. There's advice, styling tips and how-tos to the reviews etc (sadly for me as a UK viewer most of yours I don't check in on as its prohibitive to buy oil etc from so far away due to shipping etc).
What I find different about your channel is the info - you break things down so interestingly - likely coming from your school background. I don't comment much but have a few times over the years and I just want you to know that we love what you do and to keep on keeping on dude.

You made two very good points-Finding what works, let alone what works best for you, demands time and attention. And that is complicated by your knowledge, experience, and beard growing and changing. So there is a feeling that you must keep up with everything. Your second point, complacency, can show itself in many areas of life when, for whatever thought process, you think some of what you’ve been doing is no longer relevant and you abandon it until you become aware of what you’ve lost. Two thoughts influence my viewer life cycle: That I may have something to offer, and I need to check that I’ve not developed bad habits.

    Hey, Dan!
This my first time ever commenting even though I've been watching your videos for over 2 years now. My beard is a very important part of my life, and you've played one of the biggest and most important roles in making it an enjoyable part of my day. I used to be self-conscious and always feeling like I need to hide my beard from the world, but now I am very confident with it especially with the perspectives you and the community provide on how to deal with these things (especially the "bad beard day" video, that was a life changer).
Unfortunately I haven't been able to experiment with a lot of products since I don't have access to almost all of them where I'm from, so I stick with one good oil brand and a soft head hair shampoo that doesn't seem to damage my beard, and yet I'm still here always watching your videos and many of the live streams (on reply because of time difference), and still very interested in these topics and always learning from the trusted teacher.
Also, all of my bearded friends now rely on me for advice because I relay what I've learned from you, and they're all extremely happy with their beards when they follow your advice.
Man, honestly thank you and the community very much for all your do, and for your incredible commitment to helping anyone publicly or privately.

Thanks @DanCBearded for caring about us no matter where we are in our content consumption lifecycle. Yes, I'm within that average cycle of beard content viewers subscribers. First 2 months of my what I didn't even know at the time was called a "yeard", I didn't watch any videos, it was only a few general googled articles offering little info, and I didn't even realize that I was missing lots of needed info and techniques. Then I came across DanCBearded channel. For a few months I watched way too many hours of beard videos every day. Finally, I settled into a routine and also realized that I couldn't spend my whole day on RUclips. When various beard issues came up, I would still be sure to search a couple of your videos about whatever my immediate issue was, then go about my week or month. Since I am a "All Notifications" subscriber to your channel, I do still watch videos that meet an immediate need. Like today, since I'm one of those occasional "take a beard day off" kinda guys, I'm fixina watch your recent "Bad Beard Days" video since I have had too many of those days during the last couple months, then go about my day. To show support, I'll probably re-post this comment inside your Command Corner FB group, too. Stay positive, stay bearded!

I do sometimes feel weird about coming back to comment or viewing the videos. I really struggle with invites to things, so this really means a lot.
Things I've learned: this is therapeutic for me, I need to take biotin on a every few day frequency right now, it helped more than I realized (I don't think I need daily, but idk). I need to add in a night routine, it's something weird I struggle with.

I’ve had facial hair off since sort since I got out of military school. It was just “whatever” until about a year or so ago. I think I started seriously growing it once I turned 51, and started giving serious care since October or thereabouts. I’m fully immersed now as I approach 52.
I pretty much watch all the videos you put out whether I’m interested in it or not (like this one…wasn’t sure what it was going to be about). I always enjoy and give a 👍 but rarely comment. Bearded for most of the last 25 years. Was a typical guy. Buying whatever you see in the store..Eh this looks good and toss it in the cart. Online shopping at Amazon was more of the same, until products were being recommended. In the last 9 months, I decided to grow a better beard cause I can. 3 months ago I found this channel. I have learned a lot of things...( how to apply oil, products reviews like how Terrible beard pudding I purchased was )asked questions ,got great quick responses and watched a few live streams. Purchased some combs, heated brush, oils ,butters, and washes based on content and have seen improvement. 3 months later I am not consuming content as much, but I did Email in question last night . So I am just at the stage of knowing a bit , but need more experience with care and product use. Lol I see DanC on FB everyday with a Viking beard promo. FB prompts yesterday to follow so I will have another reminder to watch. Not an Instagram or X person.

I have had a mustache for 35 years. Shaved it once in that time. As soon as I got out of an industry that did not allow beards I grew a goatee (patchy cheeks). Had that off and on for 20 years and continually since 18. In April I decided to grow a full beard. I am very much in the learning stage. When I get into something I am a voracious learner. Once I have a good understanding of something I move to a more casual observer, I try to stay current with new developments, but generally rely on a solid foundation that I built originally.

I have found that I have not been watching as much beard content as I used to. I try to get in the livestreams, but I get up early and anything after 9 is tough for me. Many times I will be there for the first half hour or so.
As far as regular videos go, and don't take this personally, its with many channels, the content seems to be getting recycled lately. Specifically with "how to" and "product review" videos. It seems like soooo many videos are about the same companies. My favorite types of videos are reviews of new companies that I haven't tried or haven't heard about in a while, the science (carrier oil), and the history videos. I haven't seen many of those in the past few months, so I have been watching videos on other topics. This one caught my attention because it is something different. I am definitely still enjoying some beard content, just not as much right now. I'm sure there will be a wave of content that better suits me soon. Keep up the videos!
