I had a goatee for years and finally decided 11 years ago to go for a full beard. My cheeks have always been very patchy. My beard looked terrible. My daughter said I looked like a homeless person. I kept at it. Found this fabulous channel. Learned more about vitamins and kept the faith. It is soooooo true about patience and time. I have always wanted a beard like yours Dan but for some reason thought I needed to shave the neckline! What?? Finally figured out I needed to let everything grow out and then go from there. I have a decent beard now. Wish it was super thick like other peoples beards but hey I just have to rock what I got!! Lately I have been mourning losing beard hairs and measure them in length. Some are 14 inches!!! I can grow the length but not as thick as I want it. BUT it is so true that as it all grows the patches disappear. Thanks so much Dan for being here and being such a cheerleader for the bearded community and supporting us with all your amazing knowledge and insights!! Beard on!!!
Momma always said that patience is a virtue. I'd like to think that I can apply that principle to my beard journey. Always think long term and roll with the flow.
I’m a month and a half in and I’m already getting discouraged about how it looks compared to how I want it to look. It’s like you released this video to remind me to be patient. Thanks, Dan. From SW Ohio.
the 3 month is really key, I was like meh yea sure what the three month will do, It looks totttaly different than mont 1 and 2. Not a longer month 1 like I thought. When I went to a barber after 3+ months to shape it, they couldn't believe I didn't had a beard till now 😅
@@bostonstrongpatriots8881 My beard grows fairly slow. It’ll be interesting to see how much growth I get by the 3 month mark. I’m 46 and this is the longest I’ve ever let it grow so far. Thanks, for the heads up on the 3 month mark.
Dan, Great words of old-school wisdom! It’s so easy for you to sell your points in these videos because you’re living proof that what you say actually works! Keep up the great work and thanks for all the videos! You’re a bigger help than you even know JB
I came across your content as soon as I started diving into a longer beard journey so I never had to learn this lesson the hard way. I do know that had I not found the channel, I would’ve absolutely given up multiple times and I thank you for that!
The whole big-beard journey has been and still is one of THE slowest projects I have ever undertaken. I'm now years into growing it and I've learned so much about, not only beards in general but MY beard, specifically. It's actually quite curly. That means, for every actual inch of growth I get, it only results in roughly 3/8 of an inch, visually! Nonetheless, I've just kept growing it and working with what I was given and, while it's always gonna be a work in progress, I now have the proper tools and knowledge to realize that vision of a big beard with confidence. All that from just putting down the razor. (Great topic... on many levels)
So so spot on with the content Dan!! Lack of patience in the past has been a beard killer for me. My journey to the yeard taught me so much about patience! Thank you so much for what you do for the bearded and non bearded community 🙏🏻
I'm not a doctor. I'm a regular patient with patience. I guess lucky for me, I've been that way all my life. I think that's why they have me train people at work because I am patient with them. As for my beard, it's been an up-and-down journey. There has been many days and even some recently where I felt like just cutting it off but with patience I can make the right decision for me. Thank you, Dr. Dan C.Bearded. your prescriptions work well for me!
First: that illumination of the like/dislike button at around the 1:54 mark was dope! I didn't even know you could do that. Second: I've been growing my beard for a little over 16 months. Haven't measured it in a while, but it may be at the 5-6" length. I had a co-worker come to me and say that he grew his over-6" beard in 3 MONTHS. I was like, "Well, damn! That's some awesome beard genetics." It threw me through a loop, initially, but then I thought to myself: "Some people can't grow a full beard at ALL, so let me just keep appreciating what I'm rocking." As you said, "Doctor" Dan, patience is key.
Patience is absolutely key for someone growing out a short beard to medium during the awkward phase. The beard most likely will not look how you want it to, but just waiting a few months will be well worth the wait!
Growing my beard long taught me a lot of lessons in patience... I started in August of 18, and it wasn't until January of 21 that I finally got the styling the way I wanted... It took that long to decide one of the products I was using was causing my issues... A product with just one cheap filler ingredient (Soy bean oil) that kept the waves in my beard coming back... Once I eliminated that product everything clicked... So lesson learned, when you mention "Cheap filler oils" I tune in...
I couldn’t agree anymore this is so true I use to just shave cause how my cheeks looked started watching your videos and getting in the community and wow it truly has allowed me to grow and look great beard that I’m gonna continue keep growing
Great video Dan - Everything is spot on. Patience, time and education is the best medicine to growing a beard you were meant to grow. Patience is something I need to learn with patches, learning that I am my own worst enemy. Patience is important to let products work, not everything works overnight (biotin, collagen, etc,). Patience was important to me on styling. I had to learn the heated brush and different temperatures. I had to learn the force I use on my beard with the heated brush has an impacted. I had to learn how to use the hair dryer and different combs and brushes that worked for me. Patience was important to my beard trimming. Learning to use the 3 day trim method was a game changer to me. Overall without a solid level of patience and understanding that my beard journey will have peaks and valleys I don't know if I would have the beard I have. I agree on patience is critical but so is education
I have been bearded for 40+ years, and am now Santa. After last Christmas, I didn't trim back, opting for a longer beard all year, and trying to maintain it and get more length. For a longer beard, the biggest mistake is trimming all the hairs underneath in the back of the chin. It takes patience to let the back grow out, and then, Dan, you showed how to just trim the bottom. Works. But the patience is not trying to fix the underneath. There are good days and not so good days, but the not so good days, you just do nothing, but ride it out. Time and patience works. Thanks for being the doctor here. You prescribe right.
Yessir!! Patience patience patience. And after that, more patience! Been in the journey since March 2020 when, like a whole lotta other people in quarantine, I decided to finally try in all sincerity to grow a full, healthy beard. Found you, and 4 years later I'm still having to learn patience! In the beginning it was patience to let the hair continue to grow so it covers my not-very-dense-at-all beard. Then I made the mistake of doing the Scuba Trim because I was too impatient to let the puffy sides get longer. Those were in the beginning, and now I still struggle with the correct temp on the Aberlite. BUT I've learned patience!! So rather than just give up on the Aberlite, I have the patience to say "ok so that was too high a temp. Next time I'll go 20° cooler." And not give up, and just try it different next time. Patience! ☺️
Excellent prescription Dan! I had to learn that growing a beard takes TIME , takes a little longer when you’re younger, and because of my inpatients when I first started growing my beard I kept it shaped as a chin strap or stubble because I thought the cheeks were too thin to grow out. If I had just been patient enough I would have been rewarded with a full beard. It wasn’t until I left my stubble go to long and then a small vacation that I realized I needed to just let it grow! I’ve now completed several yeards and I’m currently working on going beyond the yeard to achieve a beard like yours. I always recommend a yeard to the guy who likes to trim to much when he wants a big beard.
Definitely learning not to knit pick areas. Letting it go through the phases. I still have a bit to learn and long way to go. Been a little over two years now. Went 6 months since my last trim and almost made it to 8” and just took it back to 7”. Very happy with the trim. I need to go at least 6-8 months before my next touch up along the bottom. Ever evolving and slowly but surely👍
I totally agree! Sometimes I think that my beard could use a small trim. I look in the mirror and turn around and walk away. Nope not going to do it. That has kept me growing. Thanks Dan.😊😊😊😊
Nearing the end of year one for my beard. I get lots of compliments about it. Distinguished is the word I hear the most. Thanks for the tips Dan! Patience has definitely helped me get to where I am. Thankfully patience is one of the few qualities that I have.
Another thing to add to patience would be that growing a beard is also an investment. Some guys will say they've never used any beard products or that it's silly or not manly to use beard products. There are so many different tools/products out there that can help you potentially grow the beard you want even though it may seem hopeless. I'm in my yeard journey right now and have been growing it out for two months, leaving it alone, using beard products and tools, and am already noticing a world of difference. With time and patience, my patchy areas are starting to fill in, and to me, it's starting to look pretty good. Great video as always Dan. I encourage people who are serious about their beards to follow this man and also check out other beard channels. There are a lot of great ones out there.
An old saying with a bearded twist. I didn't know how to grow a beard. I just found out all the ways on how to improperly maintain a beard. But now i live my life and wait, wait for the day when a bearded bro steps up and says, "wow, now thats a beard i want".. Then i will say, your time will come my friend. Go forth and search, search for Dan Command, for he is the guru for millions of us beards. We appreciate ya Dan. Thanks bro
I could not agree more! I was definitely overthinking everything and getting stressed early on in the beard journey. Like you say I learned to just rock what I’ve got and go with it. The last couple of years have been great for the beard and it’s definitely getting to where I want it. Thanks for all of your vids and help. 😊
Wow Dan, that is a really good advice that you gave. I've been having some issues with my beard. I have these thick black hairs on the bottom of my beard. I could not figure out what in the world was going on with my beard. I asked a girl that had long hair and showed her the beard hair that was thick, fat and black. She told me that is where your hair stopped growing and then got thick and fat and then started to grow again. I still don't like it because my comb gets stuck there all the time. I really wanted to cut my beard down cuz it's so annoying. However, I thought that one of these days the hair will be too old and will completely fall off. Patience is always the key. I also want to go and say that the beard companies when I started was nothing like they are. Today. I had to start off with honest Amish which was really great. Now we got Beard octane and luxurious bastard and weatherbard and so many others that are great. And we also have companies that have come and gone. The point is that we have to be patient at all points of this beard progress!
Great advice! I found that after growing out my beard for a year, getting through those awkward phases without trimming was the most difficult. Just letting it grow and trimming it only after you get to the length you want is easier said than done. Figuring out what products work best for your beard, how much to use, and when to use them also takes patience.
Oh, boy! You sure packed a lot into this. As Piet Hein put it in one of his “Grooks”, “Things Take Time”. Not only does patience make problems go away, it keeps some of them from arising at all. Regarding trimming: wait a day for every week of growth, or a week for every month of growth, between thinking about and taking action. I have learned it is important to be patient while trimming. Using scissors, you see results a few hairs at a time. During the journey, keep in mind the difference between, say, five years of experience and one year of experience five times! You said “learn to work with the variables.” Patience will let you learn what the variables are! I like “patience and zooming out” - Yes, patience includes observation and perspective!
I have gotten so much better with patience. This is the longest by beard has been and I never realized how much I actually was trimming my beard until recently when I haven't for some months now
Every thing you said Dan is true 1000% and the good thing aout me is that i'am paitiant despite the ups and downs i go through with ky beard and honestly speaking i'am happy with it and satisfied as long as it keeps growing 🤣.well actually it is growing and that's why i'am happy. Thank you for the video Dan bro 👊🏻
Patience is a virtue. Especially when it comes to beards. Let it grow. People ask me how and how long I've been growing my long beard. And how do they achieve one. First is hydration. I joke about it being like a weed. Grows better with plenty of water. Second is skin health. Third is a healthy diet. Fourth is to be patient and stop undercutting it. Once it reaches its length. Shape it a little bit at a time. Much of this was learned from watching these videos.
I far too often forget to consider, that even though I see Dan as the All Knowing Teacher, that he to still is on his journey every day as we are! Beards be doing stuff!
Spot on advice as always. I often get asked the question, "how long did it take to get your beard that long?" Sometimes someone will say to me that they wish their beard could be that long. Basically I'll tell them what you just said. I had always kept my beard around 8 or 9", just long enough that I wasn't constantly having to shave the neckline. It was about 2 years ago when I committed to the length. That's what it takes, a commitment and like you said patience. Another big thing that helped me was having a very supportive wife. It's still a little surprising to me but my wife is my beards biggest fan. She gifts me with an abundance of beard products for birthdays, Christmas, and anniversaries. Her encouragement and my patience has given me a beard that, even though it's still a work in progress, I am proud of. This community and your advice has definitely helped as well.
@DanCBearded Definitely. I feel bad for the guy who may have the patience for an awesome beard but says that his wife won't let him. Other than lack of patience, discouragement is probably the biggest beard killer.
I knooowww! Viscosity is one that even after almost 6 years with a beard, I'm still not sure about yet! Patience (and actually giving it a chance) allowed me to know that my beard could really grow and look like a beard! I always thought, before, that I was not one of those bearded guys, until I actually give it time and a chance!
Hi Dan, I know that there are no schools for beard doctors, but if there were, you would be the teacher of that school, in theory you are a beard doctor and patience is the key to success. good video have a good day Dan
I've learned patience having my beard 9 months....it's part of me and isn't going anywhere anytime soon...some family don't like it and it just makes me that more determined to let it grow.
I've been growing my beard out now for around 8 months without trimming and it's almost at 5 inches. I feel like, now is the period where I am the most impatient. Now that it has gotten longer it looks like it's not growing anymore but when I measure it every week or two, I can see that it is still growing. My brother wants to start growing his beard out as well. I told him, my best advise was patience and maintenance. also through away the razor. I've heard somewhere that razors damage the tip of the hairs compared to a trimmer. So I recommended that he let it grow out a bit, trim it down to just stubles and the grow it out from there. I'm also going to refer him to your channel for further advise and recommendations.
I am one of the impatient ones. I grow my beard, trim and wish I hadn’t. Grow for 6-8 months, wake up one day and shave it off. And ALWAYS regret it and wish I would have shrugged off bad beard days or feel in beard and kept growing. I don’t have great beard genes. But hope to leave it alone long enough to get the length of Tyson’s beard. (If you know, you know)
Great video Dan! Patients is definitely key. Looking back over the years, my beard has only gotten better and better, just like you said, lowering your stress and just knowing your beard comes with patience. 💯👊🤘
Brother, I know you are a gym lover like me. I can tell ahah But currently, just with 10 kg hexagonal dumbbells doing simple biceps curls and svend press curls (both are super simple exercices that are very effective) and doing abs crunches I achieved an incredible result in 2 weeks with not that much effort (too much effort not very good, not building muscles, and not enough not good too.) . By doing the exercises correctly, according to several experts, the reps and sets. Here is what I do very very simply: *1) 5 sets of 20 reps of classic ab crunches (30 seconds of breaks between sets). The crunch seems easy to do but doing it like that complicates everything: lower back which touches the ground and not the buttocks, hand on the ears, eyes looking the sky, not twisted neck and during the effort exhaling as if the toracic cage touches the navel, and inhaling during release.* *2) bicep curls with 10 kg hexagonal dumbbells: 4 sets of 12 repetitions (1 minute break for each series, 4 series of 12 repetitions) perfect for muscle growth, doing more sets and reps is for endurance and or toning and therefore not necessarily profitable this is why it is recommended to do 4 sets of 12 reps). And exhaling during effort and inhaling during release.* *3) svend press: 4 sets of 15 reps with 10 kg dumbbells (45 seconds break between sets.). And here are three simple exercises which offer very rapid results, in barely 2 weeks.. ps: against heavy breathing, my father (former military chief adjutant always taught me how to reverse darn in sport), that is to say exhaling at the effort and inhale at the moment of release. This is essential. This is actually the Arnold Schwarzenegger method.* Ps: breathing is reversed, and lot and lot of so muscular gym coach are missing the point of reversed breathing, so they teach Inflate exercise to their client, without teaching them reverse breathing, which means that they will build muscle and in the long term if they decide to stop doing exercices at home or at gyms they will lose everything. So much so that reverse breathing in sport allows you to really root the muscle and keep it strong for a long time even after stopping (well you still have to not stop.) and here is the important part: 1 day of abs exercise, dumbbell and 1 day of rest, time: 48 hours to recover and the tissues to rebuild. You should not work the same muscle 2 days in a row.
This is a great video. You definitely have to leave your beard alone especially from barbers who don't know the difference between cutting hair and cutting a beard
I was not a fan of heat at first. I used a lesser known brand beard straightener with a plug-in, and it was OK. Then, I ordered a cordless straightener that had good reviews on Amazon. Again, it was OK. Finally, I "broke down" and bought an Aberlite Go Pro 2. It was an amazing difference! My beard styles so much easier and faster. If I hadn't had patience to try all those straighteners, I would have given up on heat all together and been miserable.
I have looked into why my beard grows so slow, and you are correct. Contrary to popular belief, trimming does not promote or stimulate growth. But...low Testerostone and DHT levels def will have slow growth. So, maybe I should get my levels checked just to be sure. My beard at 2 and a half years is what I see others do in less than a year. Im okay with my beard and love the journey but sometimes I wish I could get to my goal already! 😂
I struggle with styling still... finding the viscosity and the weight of products in terms of the wax amount, habits, and time allotted... but I try to have fun and have taken a "who gives a f***" approach. As long as I care, and the people who truly care about me support me... rock on and beard on. Yo... beards aren't meant to be perfect anyway. They're unique like every one of us is. What sense is it to grow a beard to try something different if we're trying to look like something or someone else who we saw with the "perfect" beard? Patience and let nature take its course. As much as we like to think... nature has been doing the majority of the work thus far, we just added a small portion of the overall goal... the biggest of which is letting nature take its course.
If I were a doctor...I would prescribe IV vitamin C, chaga mushrooms, jiaogulan plants, propolis (bee stuff), mushroom relishing, exercise every other day (48 hours of rest for the muscles), sleep at the right times, drink water in the morning and drink water (8 glasses minimum per day). For stressed patients, I would recommend 2 glasses of whiskey (according to science and the elders of this world it is effective for living over 90 years. But hey without taking into account factors like genetics etc.). For patients who are sleep deprived, I would prescribe herbal infusions. Well, I think I would have been a sort of doctor of herbal medicine. And the medical order would have ejected me because I would have told the health truth too much... haha
I’m making you a fanart with the most magical beard drawing ever made in beard history. This is to celebrate how much your content grew as large as your beard. What you have to say about that? 😊
I’ve never been able to grow a beard from high school to about 24-25 but in October of 2023 I decided to just let it grow and do its thing and never knew about the oils and all that till about 6 months in and since I have been my beard looks great still patchy but filling in haha excited but still don’t know if imma keep it or not haha

Cry in the storm or dance in the rain! Phases and bad days will always happen
Haha well said sir! When you embrace em it makes the good days that much better!
I totally agree! Sometimes I think that my beard could use a small trim. I look in the mirror and turn around and walk away. Nope not going to do it. That has kept me growing. Thanks Dan.😊😊😊😊
Exactly!
Nearing the end of year one for my beard. I get lots of compliments about it. Distinguished is the word I hear the most. Thanks for the tips Dan! Patience has definitely helped me get to where I am. Thankfully patience is one of the few qualities that I have.
Distinguished is a powerfully awesome compliment!
Actually you are a beard doctor. Thanks for every prescription.
🤝
Love the reflection and thank you for sharing!
Thanks bro
I appreciate you brotha!
I could not agree more! I was definitely overthinking everything and getting stressed early on in the beard journey. Like you say I learned to just rock what I’ve got and go with it. The last couple of years have been great for the beard and it’s definitely getting to where I want it. Thanks for all of your vids and help. 😊
There it is!
Soooo many areas where patience helps!
Great advice! I found that after growing out my beard for a year, getting through those awkward phases without trimming was the most difficult. Just letting it grow and trimming it only after you get to the length you want is easier said than done. Figuring out what products work best for your beard, how much to use, and when to use them also takes patience.
All facts!
Love all of those. Some absolute gems in there. Thank you Leo!
I have gotten so much better with patience. This is the longest by beard has been and I never realized how much I actually was trimming my beard until recently when I haven't for some months now
The beard will truly teach you patience, if you let it!
Love to hear that!
Great video Dan! Patience is the key!
Sooo transferable to most areas of life
@@DanCBearded Absolutely! I am going to use "Patience" as the theme of my next Jiu jitsu video.
It really does grow like a weed with more water!
I far too often forget to consider, that even though I see Dan as the All Knowing Teacher, that he to still is on his journey every day as we are! Beards be doing stuff!
No doubt! Forever journey
Supportive wife can make all the difference!
No doubt about it!
Hi Dan, I know that there are no schools for beard doctors, but if there were, you would be the teacher of that school, in theory you are a beard doctor and patience is the key to success. good video have a good day Dan
Appreciate you Jose!
I've learned patience having my beard 9 months....it's part of me and isn't going anywhere anytime soon...some family don't like it and it just makes me that more determined to let it grow.
Heck yeah!
Sooooo true!
Always here if he has questions!
People ask me all the time how did your beard get so big my best advice is patience and time so I absolutely agree with you
Love that response!
My patience usually runs out at 5-6 inches lol
Keep it going!
(If you know, you know)
Excited to hear about the journey!
Great video Dan! Patients is definitely key. Looking back over the years, my beard has only gotten better and better, just like you said, lowering your stress and just knowing your beard comes with patience. 💯👊🤘
It’s such a cool aspect of the journey to zoom out and look back on
Hey Dan another great video thanks man
Thanks for watching!
Here is what I do very very simply:
*1) 5 sets of 20 reps of classic ab crunches (30 seconds of breaks between sets). The crunch seems easy to do but doing it like that complicates everything: lower back which touches the ground and not the buttocks, hand on the ears, eyes looking the sky, not twisted neck and during the effort exhaling as if the toracic cage touches the navel, and inhaling during release.*
*2) bicep curls with 10 kg hexagonal dumbbells: 4 sets of 12 repetitions (1 minute break for each series, 4 series of 12 repetitions) perfect for muscle growth, doing more sets and reps is for endurance and or toning and therefore not necessarily profitable this is why it is recommended to do 4 sets of 12 reps). And exhaling during effort and inhaling during release.*
*3) svend press: 4 sets of 15 reps with 10 kg dumbbells (45 seconds break between sets.). And here are three simple exercises which offer very rapid results, in barely 2 weeks.. ps: against heavy breathing, my father (former military chief adjutant always taught me how to reverse darn in sport), that is to say exhaling at the effort and inhale at the moment of release. This is essential. This is actually the Arnold Schwarzenegger method.*
Ps: breathing is reversed, and lot and lot of so muscular gym coach are missing the point of reversed breathing, so they teach Inflate exercise to their client, without teaching them reverse breathing, which means that they will build muscle and in the long term if they decide to stop doing exercices at home or at gyms they will lose everything.
Thanks for sharing man!!
My prior beard adventures starting in 1975 (freedom beard after quitting Army ROTC), wish there was beard info available about beard oil.
It would be interesting to go back and see what it was like then!
This is a great video. You definitely have to leave your beard alone especially from barbers who don't know the difference between cutting hair and cutting a beard
Big difference too!
Quality matters!
@DanCBearded Boy howdy!
Facts!
Yes, #1 is Patience. For me #2 is find a good barber, one that understands beards. #3 is Patience.
Love that sandwich!
Doctor Dan is there a nurse for beards. Can I have a cuddle to help my patients 😂🎉😂🎉😂🎉
I appreciate you taking the time to share, as always. Thank you brotha!

Someone somewhere has to offer a PhD in Barbology or something like that.
Let’s make it happen!
Hi dan can you review pacinos beard oil because i could not find any best beard oil at my city ❤❤❤
I will add it to my wish list, thanks!
And the medical order would have ejected me because I would have told the health truth too much... haha
Thanks for sharing!
@Dan C Bearded
* Mushroom reishi
And not mushroom relishing haha, that automatic corrector English words keyboard...
Im not a doctor im a dan 😆
😂😂
I’m making you a fanart with the most magical beard drawing ever made in beard history. This is to celebrate how much your content grew as large as your beard. What you have to say about that? 😊
Sounds exciting!
